  1. Good afternoon TKs, Ive been a builder/maker for about 6 years now, building from scratch with card, glue, bondo etc...I did post a thread of my very first prototype at therfp but it didnt get much interest, but it gives an ideas of what i get up to - https://www.therpf.com/forums/threads/my-anh-trooper-from-scratch-build.269715/ After that build I set about doing a full size helmet using similar methods, i think I worked on and off for 18 months on that (I work very, very slowly!). Will do a thread about it sometime. Sadly no plans to joing the 501st but i think its a brilliant thing. I am literally a little short for a stormtrooper, i would look totally daft! I am rather obsessed with stormtroopers, particularly ANH, particularly helmets. I have a few interesting projects lined up and id love feedback/input as i go along. Ok thanks for having me MTBer

  2. hello, I'm Tanner, since I'm going to be getting a suit from ATA Works soon, i figured it would be the time to introduce myself on these forums. I'm in the final stages on getting my first armor approved, a Clone trooper Sergeant Appo. i was going to wait until next year before i got a new armor but I've needed another project to work on. I'm excited to have my second suit of armor and hopefully get to know some of you. as of the current moment i really only have one question, and its about weathering. not that it makes much a difference, but is weathering of TK armor allowed?

  4. Welcome to FISD Tanner Depending on the amount of weathering you’re talking about it sure is allowed to have a ”battle worn” TK Here’s an example of what can be done and still Centurion (highest level) approved - good luck

  6. Hi troopers, Just a few tweeks here and there and I should be ready to start taking my approval pics. Time and the opertunity to pose suited up has been a struggle, but I did get a couple of pics suited up. Let me know what you think? Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk

  7. Thank you everyone, I’ve been looking through the forum today, and there is so much information here. I really am excited. [emoji16] Also, to answer your question, I’m thinking of going original trilogy.

  8. I gotta say, it would be nice if all the RS helmet pictures were in one album. There are something like 32 helmet pictures that I've found in the RS albums. I got more trimming done, here's the current state of the ears. I think that they are close enough for me. I massaged the curve of the helmet under them slightly to match the curve of the ears, and to match other helmets from the movie, and I like it better. Here are comparisons to the RS helmet. I used https://www.befunky.com/create/collage/ to make the collages, had to figure out a way to download the RS pics to compare, ended up copying them, pasting them to a word document, then saving them as a picture by right clicking them. Then I uploaded them, collaged them, downloaded them, and then uploaded the collages to flickr. Here you go Well, it's midnight, so I'm off to bed. let me know what you all think of the ears. Thanks!

  10. Wow! Amazing work. I was looking into doing this for my son - but after seeing the amount of work you are going through, I've come to realize that I don't love him that much.

  12. Hey all, Every guy has a "thing" they collect, whether it be hats, belt buckles, or whatever. For some reason I have like 100 coffee cups. Yeah, it's nuts but there it is. Rather than uploading my designs to Redbubble or similar and paying $15+ for a mug that I can get retail for $2, I'm thinking of getting a machine so I can do them at home for my personal use (or to give as presents to family/friends - I have no desire to sell anything). It's hard to figure out what is reasonable in terms of price but also works - I don't want to spend $100 on a machine and then find out the stuff can't be put in a dishwasher or doesn't work well. I'm trying to do research and things seem to point to this machine, as in addition to creating coffee mugs I can use it for t-shirts too, and anyone who knows me knows I also like t-shirts too (especially now that I'm 100% WFH and don't need to dress up for the office). https://www.amazon.com/F2C-Machine-T-shirt-Transfer-Sublimation/dp/B01ANF8H1K/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=FC2+PRO+6+IN+1+COMBO&qid=1592488315&sr=8-3 Are there better recommendations? Does anyone actually one one of these types of machines, and if so which model are you using?

Gloves by Endorfinders: ImperialBoots coming through with a big score: R1TK zipper boots (non-Chukka boot) with flat one-piece sole, and a thin balacava for trooping down here in sunny South Florida : Next thing coming in the mail is the E-11 R1 blaster kit printed by friend of mine, and the undershirt with gaskets from "The Darkside Closet". So many things happening!

  21. Did some work on one of the shins tonight. Got everything test fit and lines traced and cut. Added on an abs strip for the outside part, but then a minor disaster struck. I didn't realize it but the abs strip I cut happened to be super stiff and did not want to conform to the curves of the shin. It was fine on the first half, but when I tried putting the entire thing together it would not seat down properly and left a bunch of ugly gaps where the shin curved away from the strip. I was able to separate it before it fully cured, with only some minor warping on the back half that I was able to separate off. I tried cutting it a little thinner but I'm not sure that'll work either. Now I need to figure out how to make it work. Thinking I'll either gently warm it to try and get it more pliable, or just grind it off and start new. My only worry is the part that it's actually properly adhered to is like paper thin so I'm worried about destroying the shin if I try and remove the strip entirely. We'll see tomorrow! This is a picture of the shin after having to separate it again.

  23. Hey everyone Thanks for the tips and advice, I will be using those ideas for sure. Made some progress on the forearms. I glued the two halfs of the forearm together, left it to cure for 24 hours and it worked great. I highly recommend to any furture armour builders reading this thread, that you install inner coverstrips as well as the outer coverstrips. The forearm pieces are really tight when you try and line them up together, so not only will it help to give them a hot water bath to easy the tension, but the inner strips provide that extra strength for piece of mind. I went ahead and glued the two halfs of the other forearm together and left that to cure. In the movies, they had the return edges on the elbows removed, however I wanted to keep a little bit of return to add the appearance of thinckness to the armour. I was so excited to see the arm comming together, I decided to do a test fit. I tapped the other half of the forearm pieces (quite a lot of tension, so a hot water bath will be required). It fits my arm quite nicely, with no tightness or pinching issues. I even tried slipping my hand thought the wrists several times, with no problems getting through. Tapping the biceps and shoulder bells to where I thought they would sit right on me. I even stuck the rubber hand guards on with double sided tape just to see what the arm would look like when completed. How does it look so far? I used a long strip of tape to connect the right shoulder bell to the left. But the moment that the second picture was taken, the tape came off, so that's why the shoulder bell looks so far out of my shoulder in the last image. Does everything look correct for size and positioning? I'm a little concerned that the forearms and biceps are not in proportion. When my arm is straight, it almost looks like the bicep is wider by a couple of millimetres. Am I worrying about nothing, or do the forearm and bicep widths need adjusting? Any help and feedback would be greatly appreciated. If they both get the tick of approval, I can then glue the outer strips on. Thanks guys

  25. I've thought about it...but I haven't quite given up yet. If this problem were everywhere, then I'd relent. I think I just need to be more patient, and maybe sand to 400 instead so the paint may stick better.

  26. Thanks for the compliments! This has been rolling around in head for a while and its really nice to see it getting a lot of hits on Thingiverse already. I'm going to drop a quick edit with the link on my first post of this thread and I'm going to drop it onto the 3d printed parts board too. As for approval, I think the only part that might cause issues would be the flap vent box. I think its the most different looking component of the batch but even then with a screenshot of the game pack and some conversation with your GML I would imagine it would be fine. Also, I think it would be neat to see the parts mixed and matched or have some scratch built parts mixed in too. When I was doing research, I saw lots of variations in the scratch built parts so there's certainly some leeway on these packs anyway in terms to uniformity.

  28. ***OPERATION RIGHT THIGH SALVATION*** - UPDATE I've started to reattach the off-cuts to the rear of the right thigh pieces as shown below - one side is complete and the other is glued and drying overnight. If you squint and hold your device far away enough from your face, you'll see that it looks as good as new from the outside, right? No? Okay, I know that Jedi mind tricks don't work on you guys, but hopefully it will be good enough when finished to give me a second chance to resize without any major surgery required - we will see! Other side drying overnight:

  29. Looking AWESOME, Thomas! I must say you have really come a long way with this armor, sir... DANG I'm proud of ya'! There are a few issues which you have noted, and as you are aware the ab/kidney and thigh ammo pack rivets will need to be painted, but overall a fantastic build! I have a question for you, though... do you have padding in the top of the bucket? The reason I ask is that it seems to ride pretty high. Although it will not affect approval at any level, having it that high may affect your field of vision. I had padding in the top of my first bucket, but found that I was constantly having to tilt my helmet forward just to be able to see. Outstanding alignment on the thigh/calf and bicep/forearm cover strips! I expect to see your submission in the "pre-approval" area soon... after that, it's Basic, EI, and then on to Centurion!

  30. I also built an 950 Armor Works R1. As it was already mentioned, there is a little guesswork and figuring out what has to be done. But meanwhile there are some other builds of this kit. I´m quite satisfied with the kit overall. Actually I´m waiting to get my approval. You can take a look to my WIP. Have fun and ask as much as you need to.

  31. I have gotten my kit from them back in may, shipped to Germany. They also have a web page. I liked the kit, lots of things that are not quite clear, but with patience and lots of reference pictures, it wasn't too difficult. Am enjoying it so far. Should be finished soon

  37. I got one of the first R1TK kits from 850. I love my kit, but initially there was a lot of guesswork because no one had an abs kit before. So had to do a lot of guess work and comparing to threads with Jim's kit, and a lot of online and forum references. My biggest and only suggestion is ditching the abs shoulder straps as is for sd silicone rubber ones, e sd po specially if you're looking to carry the R1 Patrol Pack. The rubber straps are able to handle continuous use of a pack, and also helps in keeping the straps from sliding off. Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
