  4. Well this makes me feel slow. Ha ha. Given my issues with larger limbs I was on and off for 7 months to finish my build. I've heard others take as much as 2 years with BBB returning to a closet often. It's best to see each small task as an accomplishment and eventually you will have enough done for your basic application. Then there is just the constant repair and improvement which is less pressure than finishing the build.

Sebastian, along with being an avid fan of wrestling and live music, enjoyed Star Wars costuming at his father’s side. At Edward’s request, Sebastian’s completed Shadow Scout costume was reviewed and he was awarded a 501st Legion identification number, TX-24819, claiming a place in the Florida Garrison. Our condolences go out to his family and friends. "Buckets Off" On the 30th December of 2019 news of the passing of #Michael Langkau began to circulate within our community. Michael (ID-1177,) a long standing member of the German Garrison, is much loved throughout the 501st Legion’s international Family. A quirky sense of humor and generous, caring smile are considered Michael’s hallmarks amongst his friends. Michael is survived by his loving wife Marieke (TS-783) and their three children. Our condolences go out to his family and friends. "Buckets Off" On 5 January 2020 Dave McAdams, TI-74770, of Cloud City Garrison passed away. "Buckets Off" Near the beginning of 2020, our brother Jason ”Lawless” Sirota, TB-69077, passed away. Jason is known for his contagious enthusiasm, brilliant smile, and helping others meet their costuming goals. He coordinated events, was part of the Los Angeles Squad staff, and served as a Web Liaison for Southern California Garrison. Jason avidly promoted the Reggae and Ska music scene and supported the adoption of dogs in need. Jason is survived by his pretty puppy, Joy. Our condolences go out to his family and friends. Greetings Troopers! First I would like to say a huge thank you to this years FISD staff for a job well done. As some of you may not know the Legion Elections are approaching very quickly. The new election timeline can be found here This can also be a tumultuous time within the legion. I would like to remind everyone that historically we have had very smooth election process here on the FISD. The Provost Marshalls will be running the elections as usual and we expect them to run as smoothly as ever. I would also like to remind everyone that any candidates we do have for the FISD are volunteering their time and it is not their day job. So if we do get to the Q & A process please remember that sometimes candidates will need some time to answer any questions. If anyone has any questions about the election process then please do not hesitate to reach out to me or Chris (themaninthesuitcase). Any and all advice/suggestions given will be specific, constructive, helpful and respectful. Please note that this program will NOT take the place of your local GML, as Detachments are not chartered for costume approval and can not override a GMLs decision, but is instead a peer review program designed to help you look your best and offer guidance and positive feedback. You will have the opportunity to ask questions about your completed armor, weapons (if applicable), accessories, etc. and get accurate information from the experts here at the FISD.. the definitive home of TKs worldwide. Some people spend countless hours helping others, and want to reward their results as well as incentivizing new people to help as well. To register a “win” in the program, the assistance must have provided hands-on help trimming, building, and/or fitting of said armor for the person who was awarded Expert Infantry status. Other program notes: • Helping remotely, giving advice, or taking payment in exchange for help does not account, all work must be voluntary and without expectation of compensation. • The assistance must be for a period of 30 minutes or more. Spending 15 minutes tweaking someone’s fitting or taking photos does not count. • "wins" can be retroactive, e.g. if you helped 5 people in 2017 already, those can count as long as they are fully documented. Award Levels • 5+ “wins”: FISD Armorer Badge • 15+ “wins” FISD Senior Armorer Badge • 25+ “wins” FISD Master Armorer Badge The process • Person applying for the award will create an application thread to track the help they give. • For each “win”, they will list the person they helped achieve Expert Infantry status by copying their EI approval thread. • For each “win”, the person who was helped will validate that this person helped them. With Unquestioned Loyalty Aaron Gibson TK-99725 "Pyrates" Curator Hall of Fame With elections starting at the end of February it's time to check your detachment affiliation. OK so you look at your Legion profile and it shows that your detachment affiliation to FISD is pending, or otherwise incorrect. Why does this happen, and what is detachment affiliation anyway, and what will FISD do about it? The answer is that detachment affiliation is only ever used once a year, and for one purpose. The only time the Legion ever uses it for anything is to determine who can run for DL and who can vote in detachment elections. That's it. Otherwise it is pretty much ignored and not used for anything. The process of validating detachment membership is cumbersome and time consuming because people use different email information between their Legion and detachment logins, and that there is no way to bulk update the rosters. For a small detachment it is not a big deal to do this manually, but for a detachment the size of FISD with hundreds and soon thousands of 501st members, it's impossible. Fortunately we have technical folk both on FISD and in the Legion web team. Once a year they take a feed from FISD's database and do a bulk update on the Legion database. This occurs right before the election cycle starts and is done once per year. Pro tips: 1) Ensure the email address you use on the Legion & FISD boards are the exact same. 2) Ensure that your FISD profile has the correct TKID. 3) IMPORTANT! You MUST be in the right security group. It should be "501st Stormtrooper" in order for the automated system to pull you over. This thread is where you get your detachment access updated. 4) If after the bulk update is complete and your profile is still not updated, and you are 100% sure your info is in sync between the two boards, then ask for to the Legion web team. They should get feedback on why this isn't working. 5) If all else fails, ping the FISD staff. Which basically means that we'll simply tell the 501st web team to bulk approve everyone 6) If still you have no luck you can contact the legion web team directly via email: lwm@501st.com To check detachment affiliation go to the 501st Mb database here then click Your Profile Data. FISD affiliation shows "pending" contact our DL @Alay and request a manual update. 2020 Legion Election Timeline After the 2019 elections it was decided the elections process has been far too long and would be shortened, as such here is the new legion elections timeline for 2020. A suggested level of EIB or above is preferred, as part of the duties include assisting those aiming for levels 2 and 3, but is not a requirement. Being active on the boards on a regular basis , welcoming new members and helping out where you can is, though. Some of the benefits: 1. Access to exclusive Attaché merch., including patches, etc. 2. Having the Imperial Attaché title under your name. 3. Being a part of the team that welcomes new and prospective members of the FISD. 4. Being the "go-to" person in your Garrison, Squad or Outpost. 5. Exclusive access to the Attaché HQ area, Imperial Propaganda Machine (newsletter) and merchandise discussions. The reason is simply time. I no longer have the time to give attention to the position. My goal in my personal life is to continue to grow my photography business and hope to get back to trooping with my garrison more frequently. My time as your Ambassador has been a fun, challenging and rewarding experience. Will I still be on the forums? Yup. I still hope to be an Attache and still help where I can. Do I have a successor? No. Not at this time, but the current staff and myself will be contacting someone with the "right stuff" to carry on the torch when the time is right. What Happens Now? Nothing much! With Unquestioned Loyalty Preston Christman TK-91488 "Pretzel" PRO Lead - Attaché Ambassador So what exactly are EIB (Expert Infantry Badge) and Centurion levels? These programs were designed for those who choose to take their armor above and beyond the minimum requirements for basic 501st Legion approval. It gives you the chance to show a level of dedication and pride that takes your armor closer to being as "screen accurate" as possible, without as much extra work as you may realize! It also works on giving a better look to the Legion as an entity, and you can bet others will take notice of your hard work. The 501st has a list of detailed requirements for Basic approval, (level 1), EIB, (level 2) and Centurion, (level 3) which can be found here in the Costume Reference Library, (CRL) http://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:FISD_CRL Here are a few of the questions people may be wondering about: 1. "I am a (tall/short/heavy/thin) Trooper. Can I still apply? Of course! These programs are open and encouraged for all sizes of TKs, as long as the costume is correct and meets the guidelines. There are many specific build tutorials to every option, as well as a vast network of fellow TKs on the FISD to help you out and offer suggestions. 2. "How much extra will I have to pay for extra items"? The cost is actually quite reasonable, considering the few extra supplies you will need, which are listed in the requirements area. While it may run you a little more to implement these additions to your costume, they will go a long way to improving accuracy. All needed items can be found for sale on this thread: https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/16-ongoing-sales-project-orders/ While blasters are not required for basic approval, for EIB and Centurion levels they are, and may need upgrades (also listed in the CRL). 3. "I haven't even got my kit yet, is it too early to start planning"? Actually, aiming for Centurion is easiest to do right out of the box. 4. "I have my basic TK approval, can I still get in these programs"? In a word... absolutely! 5. "Are there any "perks" to this extra work and cost"? Besides knowing that you have a great looking set of armor, the 501st and FISD believes you should be deservedly recognized for your achievement(s), and allows you to wear the appropriate embroidered "rocker" badge of rank (available for a very minimum cost) on your shirt, helmet bag, etc., as well as rank decals to put on your armor bin. You will also have access to select "challenge coin" runs, receive (free) a cool certificate for your new rank, and have your title posted below your name in your FISD signature. Plus, once you reach these levels, you will have the extra knowledge to help out those who are looking to apply as well. 6. "Is it hard to apply, and what happens then"? After basic approval, all you do is make sure your armor is up to the standards set forth in the CRL, post a thread with the required photos in the appropriate area (see below), and wait a bit for the D.O.s (Deployment Officers) to address it. (Hint: Studying other people's threads before you submit can be a GREAT help). These are also listed on the main page of the FISD site. While waiting for approval, you will get some comments from others who will offer suggestions and constructive advice to help you out. If you should need any changes, the DOs will let you know, so you can adjust accordingly. Don't be dismayed if you do need changes... it's all for your benefit! After you are approved for EIB, then you can submit for Centurion. EIB https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/19-request-expert-infantryman-status/ Centurion https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/72-request-centurion-status/ Just remember that the FISD is here to help you every step of the way with whatever other questions you may have, but if you can't seem to find what you are looking for in your research, just ask away here on the forum. This area lists all those who have gone above and beyond basic approval toward screen accuracy. Our goal is to reach the one thousand mark of Troopers who have earned their Expert Infantry Badge, and although we are well on our way to this goal and have just reached the 951 mark! The amount of approved submissions is increasing thanks to the dedication of those willing to go the "extra mile" toward screen accuracy. Here is a brief description of EIB as written by Paul (Daetrin), our founder: "Expert Infantryman status is not required for members of this detachment. It should be viewed as an optional set of requirements for those who wish to take the accuracy of their costumes to the next level, and be recognized accordingly. We're a costuming club - think of it as an award for costuming excellence and you get the picture. The requirements will not replace or supersede 501st standards, but only serve as an inspiration for the level of accuracy that can be achieved. The standards are meant to be high but achievable..." Besides the added pride you will have in your armor, those reaching this level can purchase exclusive EIB gear (patches, decals, coins etc.) and get a free certificate for your accomplishment. 6. Similar to the forearms, I'd like to have sharper edges on the Torso boxes. I previously asked about accurate size but after some consideration, I decided I'd just build to whatever size was required to cover the existing bumps. I don't want to compromise the strength of the Torso by removing the existing bumps. Torso boxes: Using ABS sheet, I constructed shells that would sit over the existing bumps. These seem to have a flat area that intersect the angled one on the bottom edge. From reference pictures, seems two boxes have recessed details so I tried to replicate those as best I could. I affixed with CA glue but these do not fit perfectly over the bumps. Have some concern that they will break off without a good bond so I drilled holes in the back and filled with more CA glue and accelerant. Some filler eliminates the gaps against the Torso. The size and spacing isn't 100% accurate as I decided to use the existing bumps as mounting points. But I think the look is much improved.

  7. Thanks for the guidance. I'll get to work on the return edges later with the Dremel.

  8. Below may not be consideration for basic but just some notes for future improvements. Arms will look better with small adjustment to spacing to even out the balance a little more. Some space between forearm and hand guard will save rubbing and damage to hand guard from posing with blaster, mine started to rip soon after started trooping. You could consider reducing the bottom of the bicep and forearms to give a more tapered look.. Opening at the bottom should be just big enough for your arm/hand to pass through with all return edge removed. After some trooping I decided to increase the overlap of my chest and ab pieces, when moving and posing I found the chest plate to raise too much and lose the overlap. It looks like you could lower your chest piece for the same purpose and give you a bit of space around your neck. It's helpful to always check back to CRL, my advice is from limited personal experience.

  9. No need for panic, Chris. There are no "problems"... only solutions! As I tell many new folks, treat your build as a marathon, not a sprint. 4 weeks should be plenty of time to get your tools/materials in order, and since you have the under-suit you are in good shape for now. I know you want to get out and get trooping, but don't rush it. The average build takes 4-6 weeks (or longer), so if you save the calves for last you will have the boots by the time you get to that point. While waiting, you can also work on your research. Hopefully, you will consider aiming for Centurion right out of the gate, so it will be helpful to look over some of the approved EI submissions here and the Centurion submissions here. These will give you an idea of the details we look for. You may have seen it already, but this thread will help as well, whether you are aiming for the higher levels or not. Again, I can't stress enough how important it is to have (and be able to use) an image hosting service. This will be especially important when you have an issue. This is your thread, so while you wait for BBB day, use it to ask anything you like.

  11. Hey everyone! So after a little break I decided to get back to it! First off, I started printing off the F11D made by The5thHorseman. I must say that it looks incredible! More pieces on the way. Next I Dremeled out the chest opening. And taped the back, yoke, and chest together to see how it looks. Pretty nice, but I need to take the side edges off. It's pretty faint, but I have marked the cut lines in pencil. Work continues! Until next time

  16. Hah! I was being a little sarcastic with that post (at least the "problem" part). I come from a WWII Living History background, and I'm the type that wears period-correct under wear, even though the public never sees it, because that is the correct way to do it. The devil is in the details. I've always thought the process of gathering/putting stuff together was half the fun, and I'm certainly already enjoying it with this project. And, yes, I am absolutely aiming for a Centurion-level build from Day 1. I spent a lot of time looking over the EI and Centurion submission threads when trying to pick out armor. Lots of really good and helpful info in those threads. And I'm good freinds with Imgur. Here is my project log book to keep track of research, to-do lists, etc.

  17. Ello mate - it depends on which stormtrooper you are building. All of the requirements for each Stormtrooper are listed in the Costume Reference Library (CRL) and in our Advanced Tactics Forum here: https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/18-fisd-expert-infantryman-badge-eib-requirements/ And here: https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/140-fisd-centurion-requirements/ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

  18. I don't have the latest data, but it used to be that the time to create an FO suit from trimming->done is over 100 hours, vs. much less for an OT TK. @Sly11 & @Dark CMF, sounds like this would be a great poll to run soon? Usually once a year we have a "what armor are you wearing" poll to track this over time, I think a 'how much time did you spend building your suit' sounds good too. TBH, maybe making it a Google Form would be much easier.

  22. Welcome to FISD, Rick! It sounds like we're on the same path to a Centurion-level ANH Stunt TK! Just a little note—for level 3 approval you will need to purchase some rubber chemical-style gloves, at least for your submission photos. Here are some links at Trooperbay and Amazon. A word of advice, though, which I mention in my own build thread. DO NOT purchase the flexible hand guards from Trooperbay. Instead, get them from justjoseph63 here. His are both cheaper, and of superior quality, and I have comparison photos on this post of my thread. As you make a final purchase decision regarding your E-11 blaster, let me know if you'd like any supplemental photos from other angles not shown in my Hellhounds E-11 review. I'm happy to assist a fellow builder!

  23. As T-Jay (one of, if not the FISD's leading resident experts on E-11s) said, the @Hellhounds E-11 should be good to go for level 3. That is the conclusion I came to myself, based on my research, as I am also building towards level 3. Below is a link to what the ANH Stunt CRL has to say about E-11s. Click the blaster photo to be redirected to the 501st CRL page, at which you'll need to scroll down to the "Optional Accessories" section. Here is a link to the FISD E-11 Blaster Reference, which can also be found in T-Jay's forum signature.

  24. Looking GREAT, James! If I could make a suggestion, it would be to eliminate most of the return edges on the cod and posterior plate tab and round them out a bit. The reason being is that the square(ish) angles and return edges can cause chafing in that area, making things... well, let's just say "mighty uncomfortable". Note in the last photo that the return edge tapers down to zero and ends higher up (yellow arrow) and the roundness of the tab (blue arrow). Keep up the fantastic work!!

  27. Great work Nada. You could still shorten those straps connecting the But plate I think, perhaps also if the crotch strap is tight, making a longer one so it doesn't pull the but plate under so much might also alleviate the problem. Your front alignment is looking much better You might also consider sanding the sharp corners round I have circled in red and reducing or removing the lower return edge of the But plate. Its going to be more comfortable, the return isn't necessary there and it will help the plate to flex a little more.

  29. I doubt the authors know or have even been contacted, something I've brought up previously. It will hopefully be followed up next term, elections are just around the corner, so we'll have to wait and see what the next command staff have in mind and what they have on their agenda foe the year.

  32. Background: I have a WTF TK and the shoulder bells were to small for me ( I lift a lot ). I ordered some bigger ones and they seem to fit pretty good-but I noticed the color is a bit off to me. Is it off enough that I should look for new ones or paint the entire suit or something else? I have tried painting them already with the white semi-gloss I have seen recommended by others and this is the end result of that. Maybe a Sandtrooper is in my future. Thoughts? Thanks and I really appreciate all the help. Carlton

  35. Thank you. It’s been a stalled projected at the moment due to space and life but hoping it will start up again soon so I can offer some kits. The parts will all be pretty much movebale like the real deal but with resin it’s just not sturdy and long lasting so my aim is to make it look nice without the need of kicking up resin dust too much. Thanks. I can’t wait to make a finished blaster from these parts.

  37. It was an absolute pleasure collaborating with you and others over the two plus years; crazy when I think of it. Also an honor to be counted as a contributor to the FISD E-11 Reference. Very valuable as is your E-11 Completion Set offering. Oh........that TK armor, truth be told, it remains a distant dream but one day, one day and when that day comes, I will most definitely begin my WIP thread.

  38. Aw yeah!!! Finally!!! It's really me under there. I'm about 6'4'' - 6'5'' in all. I can't actually bend my arms enough to put the bucket on myself, so I now I get to tell a handler, "Bucket me!" when getting ready. Still needs minor tweaks, but they're dwindling, at long last. I need to tighten the elastic connections on a couple of the boot spats, glue a spacer in the left ankle spat (left and right are the same size, yet left wants to rattle and is loose), take in/tighten glove fingers so the finger armor fits better and the fabric doesn't bunch up and generally be too tight because of the bunching, the bottom chest plate to bottom back plate doesn't close and therefore connect fully- it's just not big enough, so I need to adjust the velcro attachment and maybe shim it. Thankfully it will be hidden. I might need to take in the gaskets a little bit, as I've lost weight since I measured for them, but that's just taking in a seam. And then those damn blasters. I have to pick away at the liquid latex and get it off, then I basically start over on paint: fillable primer over the entire thing, black glossy coat, mask off parts to stay black, then champagne mix Alclad it. I'm going to be disassembling my air brush to see if there's a blockage somewhere that's preventing paint. That wouldn't make a lot of sense since it's never had paint run through it before and has actually never been used beyond hooking up the compressor and checking air flow, but it's all we could come up with. I would love to finish them before the debut troop so I can have a blaster (I feel so awkward without one in full armor- I'm missing something), but between the weather and the effort and time it's going to take to even get them cleaned up to where I can fillable primer and black coat them, I have no idea if I'll have time. It's a Con so I'll probably just cheat with the pike if I have nothing else. Anything goes at Cons. New photos sent for approval, now we just wait and cross our fingers! I'm feeling so much better about her now- everyone at the build party loved her, the neighbors driving by were slowing down and checking us out, and she went on a whole lot easier this round. The sunlight did wonders. We had a total of five app picks taken that day- our Squad's newest ESB Boba, myself, and three new Mandos!

  39. I know I am a little late to the Chest party, but I have some advice. Me personally really liked the return edges on the chest plate as it gave depth and looked like real armor. After trooping a few times, the return edge in the collar started really dig into my collar bone and it became really uncomfortable. I added a small strip of 2mm craft foam to the inside of the collar and it made it feel much better while keeping the look of a thick plate. Comfort is definitely key on troops! Keep up the good work!

  40. Hi there. Welcome to the FISD! here is a list of vetted sellers. 850 ArmorWorks is fairly well known but is not on the vetted list at this time. If you are set on a Rogue One TK (what 850 is selling in the post) then you don't have many choices out there (KB props and Jimmiroquai are two that come to mind). If you are looking for a Original Trilogy stormtrooper kit, there are a number of other options out there. If you want more info on working with the 850 kits, check out our build section. There are some 850 builds in progress. https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/196-rogue-one-build-threads/ To be honest, in most cases you get what you pay for. A lot of different kits can be 501st "approvable" - but the amount of blood, sweat, and tears involved will vary greatly. Hope that helps a bit. Good luck!

  43. nicely done, but I must point out a few errors: The brow is indeed a separate part. Every R1TK's brow varies in height, shape, and length. I'll post some pics when I have access to a computer. Another note: I don't mean to sound very harsh, and am hesitant to say this, but imho I don't believe the Jim Tripon helmet is a good source for this comparison thread, as beginners researching the actual R1TK helmet's might be thrown off by a few of the inaccurate sculpt features. I think we should use some reference pics from the screen used costumes, as the OTTK helmet you included in the post is a screen used helmet. It only makes sense to compare a SU bucket to a SU bucket. In regards to the Tripon sculpt, the brow on the Tripon helmet is way too thick and the brows should NOT be molded into the actual sculpt. This results in a very 2d look to the helmet. The eyes are too symmetrical, and the vocoder and mouth regions are off. That's just my personal belief though. On the plus side, I'll be making an update to my Black Series helmet thread, as some very massive updates have been done to the helmet to make it as close to SA as possible. Again, if that sounds real harsh, tis not my intention to bash anyone.

  44. Hello Blaster Build Community, I'd like to include a very interesting picture towards the FIS E-11 Blaster Reference. It is a photo of an original Sterling magazine housing from the bottom. It is an intriguing view angle as it shows the catch come up into the magazine housing channel. Builders can have a clearer understanding of function in reviewing the picture. I have certainly benefited. I have contacted the author, Robert A. (swpropman) and obtained permission. Happy building everyone!
