  1. A fantastic guy, when I tracked him down through his old email address (which he told me he hardly uses and was just pure luck he checked it) and asked if he had a copy of the original artwork he not only gave me access to it but also all the artwork he made while on FISD, massive thanks once again Aaron @synaptyx truly a man of our motto "troopers helping troopers"

  4. My username MomoSS is actually short for MomoSuperSpeed. It was the name of a character I made in an old game called Toontown. Funny thing about that game is that you dont just type in your name, you have to pick 3 words to create your username in that game, and MomoSuperSpeed just stuck. Dont know why...perhaps it was fate. Over the years I've just shortened the name to MomoSS with the SuperSpeed part being reduced to just capital SS and nowadays people just call me Momo, even in person. I keep the SS though because Momo is a name usually taken when signing up for things.

  7. Mine is from my years in the fire service. As a rookie, I had to don the “Sparky” costume on many an occasion for community events, school events, parades, etc. I guess this was my first experience costuming...lol. The kids always loved seeing Sparky. One day, while trying to come up with a name on another board many moons ago, I chose Firedog. It’s followed me around ever since.

  8. Att all approved and very soon to be approved Stormtroopers! This is the reveal you have all been waiting for. We have 5 approvals left to hit the march to 1000, and the Deployment office are currently working on applications as we speak. We are literally getting down to the line and considering we will also have an EI 1000 only piece of merch to be revealed in the very near future, it is time for you all to see our major celebratory merch design. This will be in the form of an 11" patch, a celebration of all that came before us right up to the now, but first lets thank those that helped with this project. Synaptyx (Aaron), one of the detachments very first webmasters with a great creative flare , it was his design that inspired this merch item, and he actually still had files of his original design which he shared so we had a starting platform to work from. I would also like to thank Harbinger (Brien) our former DMBO, now one of the LMBO's, who helped bring my vision of this item into its current form, redesigning and creating new additions, thanks mate, it looks fantastic. I would also like to thank all the staff who helped with the brain storming and suggestions for how the end result should look, when we would reveal it, and all the fun that went along with finally arriving at this point. So without further ado here is the Victory 1000 11" patch special merch item. Oh yeah, turn your audio up

  9. Hello Troopers, First off, thanks to anyone checking out my build thread. I'll preface this by saying this will be a marathon, not a sprint. I'm not gonna give myself a timeframe, I'd rather take my time and see how it goes, but I do plan to build towards Centurion from the start. As it's my first build, I'll be sure to ask plenty of questions here when I get stuck, which I'm pretty sure will be often. I feel no matter how much research you do, it's still going to be an eye opener once you get your hands on the shiny, white armor for the first time! Here's a link to my new member intro in case anyone wants to take a look: So after a few weeks of research and due diligence, I decided to go with an ATA helmet + armor kit. Was added to the waiting list on 8/16 and got an email yesterday (coincidentally, my bday!) that my kit was next and would be finished in a few days time. Needless to say, I was PUMPED! So BBB day should be coming in the next week or two, I'll be sure to update when that day arrives. Since I don't have my kit quite yet, I spent August pouring over build threads, tutorials, etc. and stocking up on tools & supplies and some soft goods. I have already ordered an E-11 Blaster from Quest Design Canada on Etsy (thanks to @Firedog for feedback regarding his blaster) but that's still about 6 weeks out. I've also purchased my holster and neck seal from DarmansProps, still waiting on those as well. I believe a build thread can't have too many pictures, so below are a few I have so far. Imperial Boots 421's, received in early August: TD clips and Hovi Mix tips from @ukswrath's Etsy shop (thanks Tony! these are fantastic!) I'm unsure if I'm going to fully handpaint my helmet or use "handpainted" look decals, so I ordered a full set of Humbrol paints AND a set of Dave M helmet decals from Trooperbay. I figure I'll see how the helmet build goes and then decide when I get there, but both options will be available to me when the time comes. Of course if I use the decals, I'll need the paints for frown, ears, vocoder, ab buttons, screw tops and rivet tops anyway. Here's some miscellaneous tools/supplies (line 24 snaps, snap setter/anvil, some blind pop rivets that came with my hand riveter, lexan scissors, utility knife, etc.): And last weekend, decided to get my feet wet with snaps, since snap setting is entirely new to me. I referenced @justjoseph63 Snaps 101 thread (many thanks already to Joseph for all the SUPER helpful newbie threads and also a shout out to @MaskedVengeancefor his Index of Resources), but I also tried a method mentioned by @gmrhodes13 of using a phillips head screwdriver prior to the snap setter to kind of score the post. In the pic below, on the male snap plates you might be able to see I tried each method on a couple of the plates. Not sure which I prefer yet after only a few snaps, but where scoring the post first made a HUGE difference was the female snap post. I only attempted two, the first one without scoring the post is on the left and I completely butchered that one, post flattened out sideways. Used the screwdriver scoring on the the one on the right and it worked almost perfectly. I'll play around with more snaps this weekend and I'm sure I'll get the hang of it more with additional practice: And lastly, for this update, since I had to drag a barstool from the kitchen into the garage for snaps practice, I realized the "need" for a garage stool. And since I realized this "need" in the early stages of TK armor building, well then, why would I not get this one: Stay tuned for Episode II....BBB day, coming soon!!!

  10. Hi everybody! DS-55305 here, hoping to become TK-55305. Although we have a lot of TK’s in my garrison/squad, I’m the first one to try an R1 down here. I doubt I’ll be there first to finish, though. I can only work on my TK about 2-4 days a month, so this is a marathon, not a sprint for me. I ordered my R1TK from Jimmi about 3-4 months ago, and it arrived about 2 weeks ago - cheapest shipping option ftw! I was way too happy when I saw this. Unreasonably happy. Like “I’m an adult, I should not be this happy over a costume kit” happy. Unfortunately, I couldn’t really go through it until today. Unfortunately, there was some damage to the codpiece and right thigh (and minor damage to the butt plate). I’ve sent a message to Jimmi, but if I can’t get a replacement, I’m not sure how to fix it. I think I can fiberglass the inside, then use bondo to smooth over the crack, but if anyone has a better idea, please let me know. In in the meantime, I’ve plastidipped the inside of the helmet, put some primer on it, and used spot putty to fix the (very few) imperfections in the helmet. I also drilled out and filed down the area between the teeth, so I feel like I’ve made some good progress here. Next week I hope to paint the helmet. I’m thinking of buying some oil-based paint pens for the blue inside the vents and the black lines in the tears/traps. Am I overthinking this? Would a paint brush be just as good? I have basically zero artistic ability, but I’m willing to keep trying until I get it right. Side note: I’ve decided to prime and (white) plastidip the insides of the armor rather than sanding the interior because I HATE sanding. Hopefully it works out. Fingers crossed.

  11. Good afternoon everyone, new to all of this, but a die hard Star Wars fan and bounty hunter fan since I was a kid. I'm Wayne, been a nurse for 18 going on 19 years, was watching some of the behind the scenes from Mandolorian on Disney+ last night and my mouth about dropped open when they called the 501st and you guys from the So. Cal area stood in as extras... my heart dropped when I found out there's an Inland Empire Squad and right on it I was. Been talking to a few of the guys who actually were in that Mandolorian episode and I'm just giddy like I'm 10 years old again at even just the thought of I could build my own armor and look like I walked off a set and be a part of this kind of thing. SO EXCITED about this. Anyhow, a little bit about me, I grew up in so cal, literally 5 blocks from disneyland, lived here all my life, spent 3 years in the US Army stationed first in an OSUT unit for basic training and AIT at Fort Sill Oklahoma (am a 13B artilleryman by training), then permanent duty at Fort Bliss in El Paso Texas for the remainder of my enlistment. I got out of the Army and wanted to be a police officer, sought my education and graduated in 2000 with my first AS degree in criminal justice. Took the EMT course over that summer and fell in love with the medical field. 2 years later found me in the LVN/LPN program, started working after graduation as a registry nurse in the acute hospitals taking assignments first in a gero-psych unit as a med nurse, then one night got asked if I had any ER experience by the shift sup, got sent to ED to assist the two RN's there. From that point I got pushed into ICU to take 2 patients, med/surg and tele units and of course ER. Did that for four years, then in 2007 we had a shift in nursing to RN only. Went through Cancer with my dad in 2009 which put my RN off a bit, then finally returned to school in 2013 to pursue my RN licensing. In 2017 I graduated the RN program, quickly started my bachelors degree and finished it last year in June, took a year off and am now pursuing my Masters in nursing education which will last a year and a half. I have, since I was a kid, always wanted to be a storm trooper, and even one year a home-made Boba Fett costume had me out trick or treating. This is super cool that this even exists and even more cool that there's a squad right here where I live, which I was totally unaware of. The guys on the Inland Empire said this might be the best for the first run costume to get started. I'm super stoked to get going on this... So giddy right now it's not even funny that I MAY even be just ABLE to do this, let alone it's something that I actually can do... yay!!! -Wayne.

  12. New guy here. Always been a fan of the empire's boys in white. I have absolutely no kit at the moment. Researching and trying to decide the best for me. I'm 6'2". 235 pounds. So I know it's going to take some effort. Joined at TKSpartan's invite. Thanks for having me.

  13. So. Much. Putty. Man, IF ONLY I had spray putty... The cod and butt looked pretty good, but I'm hoping another full coat of putty will prevent bad pinholes like the last few pieces I've finished. The shins were pretty bad, so a FULL coat of putty! I didn't have time to trim the thighs, and would still appreciate some input. Is my plan to trim 2" causing the cover strip to angle too much?

  14. Thanks guys, all of you, I've been already talking it up with one of the local members here Justin Reed, he's putting me on the path of procuring my first build an ANH trooper kit already i'm antsy... waiting to be admitted, hoping they have a kit that will fit me i'm 6' and 205 lbs, so he said that would be my best bet with my height/weight locally, any input you all have is appreciated. I'm so giddy it's not even funny... It's weird 501st has been something i've heard of for years and always thought nothing local it's always "other places" that have a 501st... watching mandolorian behind the scenes last night and "Inland Empire" guys were on that set and I totally had to do a double take and was like whut... you mean to tell me there's a squad HERE??? in my area... been on it all morning and afternoon talking to peeps on the FB page getting set in the right directions... -Wayne.

  16. Hi everyone! I'm Matt from Portland, OR. I am very excited to be finally be making real moves towards joining the 501st. Star Wars has been a huge part of my life and I am really excited to share my love of the franchise with other people. I've been wanting to join the 501st for a long time but recent events have allowed me to make the final decision to get my first set of armor. The biggest event was that I got married in March, 2020, and my wife as a wedding day surprise to me asked members of the Cloud City Garrison to come to our reception! I was completely blown away by the appearance and it really made our wedding even more memorable (we also got married right as the COVID pandemic was beginning in the US, good news was no one got sick). The members of the garrison who came were incredible and brought so much excitement and fun to our wedding reception. Additionally, the Garrison's appearance helped raise money for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, in memory of my mom who I lost to breast cancer in 2017 (my wife made a large donation in her memory and on behalf of the 501st). My wife has been extremely supportive of my love of Star Wars and my interest in purchasing a set of armor, so after a lot of research I made my purchase this week from RS Propmasters of a commissioned set of ANH armor. I decided to go with preassembled armor given my lack of experience and craftiness but I hope to later build another set myself in the future. The armor should be arriving sometime around the end of October, beginning of November. I am excited to give it a check and hopefully get 501st approval so I can start trooping sometime in 2021. I'm really happy to take this step and I know how incredibly supportive this community is for new members just getting started out.

  17. "Out of interest, what made you choose Velcro for the thigh rears?" Hey Dan. Honestly, my decision was purely based on convenience. I've had some velcro boxes left over from another costume. I will pull out the velcro and replace it with bands as well as adjust the rear cover strip of the thigh. Thank you for your advice!

  20. I'm 52, 6'0" barefoot, and about 185. Most of the extra weight is predictably in my mid-section. There are really only two options: 1) Increase cardio 2) Decrease calories It also depends on your body type too. I'd focus less on weight and more on BMI. Muscle for instance weighs more than fat, so when I was at my physical peak working out like a gym rat I was 175lbs, but I also had a hair under 10% body fat too. That was in my 30s! Unless I really increase my cardio, the only way to lose that 10lbs of belly fat is to change my diet, e.g. I eat less at dinner, drastically cut down on beer, ice cream, cookies, etc. More veggies in my diet. I have weight targets now too, like "no ice cream/sweets" unless I get under 180 and then only once a week. Or, no beer for a month or until I hit my weight goal. The hardest part is my wife is a phenom cook (e.g. better than most restaurants), so cutting back at dinner time has been sooo hard. I realize we are all in COVID, but I think that just means we need to up our game. No reason you can't do some routine in your living room, even if it's just 15 minute/day. It can include pushups, squats, crunches, leg lifts, etc. At lunch time since I'm WFH, I put a pack on and go for a walk, even 20 minutes is better than anything you'll find on the news these days. I am up to 24lbs and that's getting too easy, so will up that weight to my target of 30lbs, which is a good backpacking weight when I go camping.

  31. I wet sanded the cod and butt to 400. The primer looked pretty smooth, so possibly not much to fill, except around the edges... Then I sprayed gloss white on the bells and biceps. It went great! At one point a bicep half fell face down, but I picked it up and it wasn't too bad, more coats covered it up. I'll check again tomorrow, but I didn't notice any pinholes... @TheRascalKing pointed out that I might not need to trim straight down the back. So I angled the top tighter by 2" and left the bottom symmetric. It fits much better, but the rear cover strip might be angled too much. Maybe I can try just 1". How does it look? I'm also going to trim the inside down almost another inch, so there's a more prominent dip like the movie references. I also checked the shins again and the length seems fine, so probably no need to take anything off the bottom. Tomorrow I'll putty the cod and butt, and the shins/sniper. I'll also trim the thighs, based on what you guys think, and putty if there's time!

Once I get some time to assemble what I have I'll get back to printing more. It will also give me some time to lose the lockdown weight and check stuff I have done actually fits before making more.

  43. The belt is actually either a really low poly clone belt or a new belt entirely. Even the right knee ammo is different compared to the Stormtrooper one. The armor parts that exists currently: Clone Trooper: Hand Plates, Forearms, Elbows, Upper Arms, Shoulders, Chest, Back, Thermal Detonator, Thighs, Lower Legs, Boots Stormtrooper: Codpiece, Posterior, Back Abdomen, Pauldron Ammo Pouches New/Unknown/Guestimate: Abdomen, Belt, Right Knee Ammo, Left Knee Armor, Pauldron, Backpack So for the newer pieces this is what I am using: Abdomen: TK with different colors and other modifications Belt: CT Belt Right Knee Ammo: Different than the TK one, so I had the idea of using these smaller CT ammo and attach them similarly to the TK one Left Knee Armor: CT Knee (might try to attach it to the Lower Leg armor like it's shown to be) Pauldron: Different compared to a normal Sandtrooper Pauldron, but if I ever go down that route, I have normal Sandtrooper Pauldron and Pouches to use Backpack: Different compared to a normal Sandtrooper Backpack, but if I ever go down that route, I might get a normal Sandtrooper Backpack use

  44. I have spoken with Eric, CTD and the LMO's, FISD won't be the home for this costume, however, he is most welcome to continue his build thread here as we are troopers helping troopers always. We don't have clone armour specific building expertise like the CTD do, to best help with construction of this armour. Nor do we keep vendors of clone associated parts so, this costume falls in a gap that leans more to the CTD direction than us from that perspective. There is 15 years of Detachment history starting with ANH style armour with all our variant costumes (games or otherwise) based off this or RotJ. From that era forward to TFA FOTK as a progression. Even Rogue One TK's and Remnant TK's look like the same style of Stormtrooper, so a costume with predominantly Clone style armour and build just doesn't fit. This doesn't mean I personally don't like the costume, I think it's rather cool to be honest and why I am happy to have Eric here showing us his process. We will support him where we can and I will work with the LMO's and DL's to hopefully find this costume a home.
