  1. Good evening members of the FISD, I'd like to thank you for having the confidence in me to fill the role of Detachment Leader. This is not the way any of us would want to be taking this station. Joseph has been an important part of this detachment for as long as I have been here. He embodies Troopers Helping Troopers, and has never shied away from helping others. He was a natural choice for DL. Sadly personal circumstances have made that impossible for him. I wish him the best in this difficult time he finds him self in. Andrew Franke @Sly11 has agreed to step in as XO. His experience is undeniable, and will be a welcome boost as I catch up with this term. Other positions will remain unchanged at this time. Having been thrown in at the deep end my priority is to get a plan for the term up and running. Wheels had already started to turn on a number of projects, though most of which are not ready to share yet. This said I do want to take a fresh look at the year, looking at any carry over from the last term and coming up with a final plan for the year. With unquestioned loyalty. Chris Detachment Leader

  2. Hi Tim, I will be the Deployment Officer overseeing your application. Your application looks great and you have an amazing set of armour. Before we go ahead with the approval however, I just need a couple of things from you. 1. Could you please send another photo of the right side of the helmet? The one you have does not clearly show all 3 screws as the bottom screw is not visible. You just need to grab the photo at a slightly lower angle. There are a couple of minor fixes that we will need you to do as well before we can move ahead with the approval. With respect to the thermal detonator, Your control panel is sitting a bit too high and the round disk is pointing upwards. The CRL for the control panel is as follows: Basic CRL: The white control panel raised ribbed pad faces the rear, with the controls/round washer style detail closest to the right end cap. This is a fairly simple fix. All you need to do to correct this is open up the clip a bit to allow the thermal detonator to roll down a bit. Reference Images The second fix we will need on the thermal detonator is with respect to the placement of the clips. They should be up against the white end caps. You will just need to move them over slightly. If the black paint on the screws gets chipped off while doing this, its a simple touch up with a dab of paint. L2 CRL: Thermal detonator belt clips are positioned with little to no gap between the clips and the end caps. Reference Images

  3. Congratulations Chris! I think it’s pretty clear that the staff are all here to support you, and judging on the Poll for confidence, the membership are too. Joseph, all my love to you brother, we are here for you too.

And thanks also to Andrew( @Sly11), who prefers to be with us instead of enjoying his retirement in Hawaii... I would also like to wish Joseph( @justjoseph63) all the best. I hope all is well, brother.

  7. Here ya go! That specific photo shows an error I had to correct. As you show in your dashed lines, the ridge in the sniper knee needs to line up more closely with the ridge that you've indicated with the red dash line. I had to cut the glue and move that corner of the sniper knee up a little higher. I was not able to close the gap entirely, but I did get it up a few milimeters, and that was enough to get my armor approved at the basic level. I also cut away more material from the sniper knee plate itself. Here is what my sniper knee looks like now: In terms of your questions, that downward taper (I'm assuming you are talking about the downward curve I cut) was cut in my best effort to match the look of the sniper knee in the reference photos. The reference photos also show the rearmost edge of the sniper knee aligning with the corner of the ridge on the lower leg armor itself. I do, however, see some variation by a few milimeters in the reference photos. I cut the return edge away in that location. Getting rid of the return edge helped me fit the sniper knee to the lower leg armor. Also, I'm glad my build thread was helpful!

  8. Progress!!! I finally figured out a way to glue the wide cover strip to the inside of the forearms! As noted a few posts up, I decided to use wide interior cover strips to increase the circumference of the forearm armor, as well as decided to glue the cover strip to one side of the joint before gluing the other side. I then figured I could finagle things to where the other side of the cover strip would be able to be glued in prim and proper fashion. Welp...the cover strip and the other side of the joint would not line up properly in terms of their angles, so I had to think things through further. Shaping is key in this issue, but I figured it would be easier to shape this cover strip if it were not attached to anything. I decided to cut the glue on one side of the cover strip to free it from the forearm armor. I then put on (the stove) a pot of boiling water and dropped the cover strip in the boiling water for 90 seconds. After fishing the cover strip out of the boiling water, I then put a small curve into the cover strip along the center of its length. This photo gives an idea: Now I had a cover strip with a slight curve, but needed to now glue it to both sides of the joint, all while accounting for the increased circumference that I want in the forearm piece... Spacers!!! I can cut spacers with a width according to the increased circumference (I remeasured and got 2cm)! But how do I keep the spacers in place to do their job? The forearm pieces are rigid enough that I only need a spacer on each end of the cover strip, and I can use the clamps to keep the edges of the spacers aligned with the edges of the forearm armor! Having the claps clamped on the spacer joints will keep everything in line! Here's what that looks like now that I have everything glued (I got a little glue on the spacer, so I'll have to cut that when I remove the spacer): Getting it all glued was a challenge, and the photo below shows that I got glue in many areas I did not want, but I'm not going to mess with it further for fear I could undo all of my work. Only one forearm is being glued right now. I'll glue the other one when I see the results of this forearm:

  10. Ok, so I built Nico's helmet shortly after he released his files around 4 years ago, and I have a build thread that I started back then, and that I only recently updated to show how it ended up turning out. Here's a couple pics of that build. I love that helmet and the sculpt that Nico created. But over the years and with so much new reference material from Solo to Andor and everything in between, I've been wanting to modify a few things to make the helmet a bit closer to what I've been seeing on the screen as well as make it easier to assemble along the way. I started about 6 months ago with wanting to try my hand at modifying the files and make the cheek tubes penetrate into the chin area. That was the beginning of a long journey, ha! I didn't really have any experience with 3D software, other than tinkering with minor modifications on files before. I've been working on a mod in my spare time, with some insight and plenty of reference from Ryder Kinion I've finally got it to where I'm ready to start a build. I ended up lightly to moderately modifying every part, as well as utilizing and slightly modifying David Os's ear and temple trap pieces. The list is pretty extensive, I won't go into every little detail I modified but here's an overview of some of the main changes I made: 1. I slightly narrowed the overall sculpt side to side as well as slightly reduced the height of the dome. 2. Added alignment pegs and holes between almost every piece that attaches together. 3. Like I mentioned, I made the cheek tubes penetrate into the chin and added attachment plates between the end of the tubes and inside the chin piece. 4. Modified the teeth to add the last tooth and added attachment plates to secure them better to the inside of the helmet. 5. Added a slight recess to the regions where the tears, temple traps and back traps sit. As well as cut out a hole behind the tears and back traps for ventilation. I plan on adding a black, breathable fabric backing similar to what has been reported by those familiar with the screen used helmets. 6. Modified the brow trim to look similar to the rubber trim used on screen-used helmets. I may end up trying to use actual rubber trim. We'll see what works best. At this angle you can really see not only the brow trim difference, but also the reduction in height of the dome, the angle of the vocoder and the modification of the point where the cheek tubes penetrate into the chin. 7. Modified vocoder angle and length of some tubes and added additional alignment and attachment points. 8. And for all the fans of the Mimban trooper, I modified the Mimban shield and pins to be more narrow and sit closer to the width of the helmet and increased the height of the brow trim feature on the shield I made a couple miniature test prints along the way which helped me see if my mods were working the way they were supposed to. They also helped me see other modifications that needed to be made. These are the first two I made. They were printed at 35% scale, the one on the left was the my first test print to see if the alignment pegs and keyholes worked properly as well as seeing how the tubes to chin connection looked and worked in real life. Then after comparing to reference and talking to Ryder we both agreed it needed to be narrower side-to-side which made the dome too tall and square. So I slimmed the whole thing down by 3% and reduced the height of the dome. But then after seeing it in real life we felt it was a bit too narrow. So I decided to try it closer to 2% narrower from the original and it finally looked right. So after a few more tweaks to a few details (and after getting a larger resin printer, that I picked up at a great deal), I decided to give it another go at a test print. This time at 50% scale. I finally feel that this is the one! And now I think I'm ready to start my build. I think I'm going to avoid all the heavy post processing work this time around and get the big pieces resin printed with a strong resin, probably from Corellia Creations and resin print all the smaller pieces myself. As I've found from doing miniatures, resin is so much easier to get to paint ready than an FDM print. This may be slow go on my part, as I try to work on it in my spare time when I've got the motivation and energy, ha! But I'm hoping my excitement to see the finished piece will provide me with enough. Wish me luck, I'll post updates as it's coming along!

You can find more information on the programs here. For those unaware it is possible to achieve extra awards at Expert Infantry for each additional version costume you have approved, additional awards are not issued with another Expert Infantry number (you are only issued 1 Expert Infantry number) but you will see a star above the award on your profile and the thread title will show [APPROVED] 2nd, [APPROVED] 3rd, [APPROVED] 4th and so on. Multiple EIB award recipients and info here NOTE If you are approved with a "2nd Version" of a particular costume that you are already approved with you do not receive an additional award, there is only 1 award issued for each costume version ie: only 1 x Hero, 1 x Stunt, 1 x HWT, 1 x ESB, 1 x TFA and so on. If you have a second/additional version costume approved you will see "2nd Version" and [APPROVED] added to the thread title, no additional profile stars (more info on profile awards here) For those of you who have a particular issue (or issues) before or after submitting for Expert Infantry / Centurion level approval, in order to get you an answer faster you can now privately contact the entire Deployment Officer team at one time! 22. An airbrush helps when painting figures in this scale. But when painting shadows and highlights it helps to be aware of color theory and not to be afraid to mix in other colors. White is one of the most difficult colors to paint in my opinion. Lil Nairy is a fun challenge.

I saw @Tilheyra's post on his build, and he said that there were some reference photos, which I did not find (I think I'm a lousy searcher!). But he has some good photos, and I'm just going to follow what he's got: If there are specific details that are must-have, please let me know. Like does it need to have the downward-curved taper? Or does the end of the plate need to line up with the corner where the shin edge changes direction? Like this? Also, since the shin has to flex out so much when putting it on, I'm thinking of cutting back the return edge as follows, to reduce stress points:

  27. Normally the detachment will see a run every 2 years, hopefully you can get your costume ready and approved before the next run sometime this years.

  28. There will be a run sometime this year. They will only be available for full FISD members, so you need to have an approved TK costume and have one of these icons under your name on your profile. If you don't have one of these, and you have an approved TK, then you need to ask for Full Detachment access.

  29. Can we call this SBB day? My blaster arrived from @Troopacoola (there was also a stand, but have that set aside). I am looking forward to digging into this build once we wrap up the armor. My agenda today/tomorrow is to paint the ear bumps and v-coder (if anyone has tips on getting a clean v-coder, let me know) as well as start my patch jobs on the extra holes in the helmet.

  32. 2024-03-09, Scouts Pinewood Derby Short troop. Entertaining kids escalated when they had a electrical problem for their hi-tech track system. But the troop leader was a fan of all the recent Disney SW content, so I appreciated the positivity. If there is a winner for theme, this TK car is it! 34. Finally got my prints back from Corellia Creations and they look amazing! The brow came back a bit warped, but once it's affixed to the rest of the helmet you'll never know. But I'm going to experiment with some rubber trim first and decide which looks best as I get into it. The alignment keys worked fantastic and it virtually holds itself together. I did use some tape between parts so I could handle it (except for the brow trim, that's held on with fun-tak). I temporarily attached some test pieces I had made previously, but I intend to reprint them. Here's some preliminary shots of the raw print.
