  1. Ok...my first official build thread...so here goes nothing! Currently waiting for the BBB to arrive. In the meantime, I've collected many (if not all) of the other parts I'll need. Some will transfer from my AM2.0 Sandy (Police Officer/Level 2) that I built a couple of years ago (Undersuit and neckseal, primarily...along with sound system). I've got the undersuit from Stormtrooper Undersuits; neck seal from Veedox; belt (measured using my Sandy armor) from Imperial Issue; boots from IB; paint stencils (which I may or may not use...to be decided) from Trooperbay; holster from Darman; flexible hand guards and nuts/bolts from JustJoseph63; non-audio mic tips from ukswrath (not shown are his TD brackets), and various bits of elastic and velcro. And here is where the magic happens (will happen)... Spent the last week or so cleaning it up, organizing it, and getting ready for the build. This is the lap of luxury compared to my previous builds (Sandy and Scout), which were done in a one bedroom apartment using the coffee table or kitchen counter as work surfaces. More to come...

  5. Yeah, I think I will opt for the IB since they will be less maintenance. I am assuming the IB's are Centurion approved?

  7. I had a helper today And I finally did some acceptable snaps, took me long enough haha And here is the helmet liner mounted. I got the side rivets in and painted as well. I also got my Hovi mic speaker system from @ukswrath. I got the full set with icomm and microphone. I did buy fans and they arrived today as well, as well as the fan controller. I just need to figure out a battery (5V, likely going to use one of the many USB battery packs I have laying around for now). Well, on to the list, let's see what's left. Test shoulder elastics, I glued them down better and will see if that helps them. If it doesn't I'll likely sew a small strip of fabric to them down the middle on the bottom side, that should fix them well enough. Size and glue side straps finish helmet. (finish paint, install lens and electronics) Talk to the GML Dang... almost there.

  8. Can't go wrong with Imperial Boots, some have sized up 1/2 to 1 full size for the broader foot, but I found mine to be perfect sizing.

  13. Halp!!!! Someone please talk me out of taking this armor into an auto paint shop to be painted. Every morning I wake up thinking that TODAY (or maybe tomorrow) will be the day when temps are cooler, humidity is below 85%, and rain is not in the forecast. Every morning I look at the daily forecast and weather monitor outside, and my hopes are dashed. And the forecast for 10 days out is always showing either rain or storms every day. The only time when the temps are below 75F and humidity is below 85% is after dark, and I can't see well enough to paint then. Gah. Aside from the price, someone please outline all of the downsides to getting a pro paint job done. The only big reason I can think of is that touch ups will be a major pain in the butt.

  14. This is an All-In-One compilation of various resources for ANH Stunt Stormtrooper builds which will hopefully be helpful to prospective troopers as you get started and begin your research. Many TKs over many years have spent countless hours documenting their tips, tutorials, and builds, and this index includes posts and links which have been helpful on my own journey to the 501st. 16. Update time! Still no sign of the helmet. I shot Dave a message, see where that's at. Armor still being made. On a seperate note, I broke down and ordered the pauldron. I figured "why not?" So that literally takes care of everything, I'm just waiting for it all to come in.

  21. Hey, wondering if these boots would work for the FOTK kit. I was able to find these in white, size 4.5, which is a little big for Cameron, but much closer to his size than anything else I've seen. They have a zipper on the inside. The rubber trim on the sole could be painted black. I know it's missing the swoop seams, but this is for Galactic Academy, and they won't care that those little details aren't there. Thoughts? Thanks, troopers! EDIT: After looking at these and comparing them to the CRL, I've gone ahead and snagged them. Should be a nice upgrade over the slip on shoes Cameron currently has. Now, if anyone sees an Anovos FOTK lid for sale, please let me know!!! Cameron is giving me grief about the seam on his current helmet (an adult Rubies Deluxe conversion). I am considering getting him an upgraded helmet as a surprise for his birthday in November.

  23. It depends on how "screen accurate" you want to be, Jose. The originals were painted Chelsea style boots, and some like the beat-up look of them which I think adds to their charm. However, I think most of us prefer the pre-dyed version from the manufacturer (like IB).

  24. Well I was able to get the forearms worked out. I was having trouble with the seam popping up after I installed the inner cover strips. I ended up making it work by way of a full-on attack of magnets, clamps and painters tape: While I was waiting for those to dry, I started sizing the biceps and working the edges to make them smooth. Definitely trying to take my time with the sizing. The forearms were a good test because I haven't constructed armor before. So now that I've figured out what works, hopefully I can apply that knowledge to the biceps and the rest of my build! Feeling good so far! One step at a time. Just gotta keep telling myself that

  28. Hi buddy I believe you are in the wrong thread for this question, but nevertheless I would say the name "Halloween Costumes" would be a obvious red flag that it's not accurate. If you need a proper FOTK (first order stormtrooper) kit at this point in time, there's many you could look for please refer to the supply list here: I would recommend not going anywhere else to get your costume to avoid disappointment But if you are a casual individual who wanna dress up for fun and is not looking for a screen accurate costume then sure, HalloweenCostume.com soft inaccurate armor might just suffice for a Halloween party or just for fun project you have.

  32. My uneducated guess is that Anovos is finally out of money. And guess what? Even big bad China isn’t going to give you product or bucks if you don’t pay your bills. As others have said all along Anovos is out of money and barely keeping a light on so there’s nothing to ship out. I also find it very interesting that Anovos can't ship out any TLJ helmets to paying customers but somehow someone in Texas just like Anovos has shipped 23 of them and has 4 more for immediate shipment. How can this be unless Anovos is....gasp...not telling the truth and selling our items out from under us? The worst part is that this thread is almost 3 years old now and we are absolutely no closer to getting our armor than when it was started but still being told the same lies.

  34. I think it came out good! Definitely has some orange peel, but I expected that. It's very light in most places and maybe approaching medium in a few, but not a dealbreaker anywhere. Same with the white coverage - couple of tiny spots I missed, but overall pretty darn even and smooth. I'm happy with it. Might cut and buff the chest but otherwise I'll leave it be. Definitely no weird reactions, runs, or cracks. My prep largely paid off, it looks like. Sweet. You know, I sprayed just a matte black primer on the vocoder and it looks pretty good for "rubbery"... probably just that, I guess! Brought all the pieces inside this morning - will attempt to re-prep the garage and spray the rest today or tomorrow so they can dry and I can paint the colored details!

  35. Hello! A few years ago i decided i wanted to build a full size stormtrooper helmet using basically card, glue, wallpaper paste, and whatever else seemed usable. I have a background in design (I did Furniture design at uni) so i am pretty skilled with my hands. I knew it would be a serious challenge, I wasnt wrong! So i started with a small prototype I suppose, which was more really to check out materials and build methods. You can see this build here: https://www.therpf.com/forums/threads/my-anh-trooper-from-scratch-build.269715/ So then I started my full size attempt. I'll just post the images, i think they show how this build progressed. A very steep learning curve! But basically by the final pic, which was about a months work, i decided nah, i wasnt happy - and decided to start again!! So this was attemp #1. More to follow! Cheers

  37. Freed from sewing that neck seal, I set to tackling the shoulder brackets. I relied exclusively on Tony's tutorial here, and it was extremely helpful! Thanks @ukswrath as always for blazing the trail for us and leaving a map! I started using his measurements as a guide, knowing I'd have to size it down anyhow. Here is my paper template cut to size, but you can see it's too big. So I pressed it into the space and made marks. Here are the measurements I ended up with. I omitted the little tab thingies on the outer edge because I don't really need them as reinforcement. The chest/shoulder/back area on this print is quite strong. I used this aluminum sheeting for my brackets. It's thin enough to cut with tin snips, but also strong enough to hold the shoulders up. I have a lot of this on hand because when I bought it through Amazon, it only came in a 6 pack. Lots of material in case I mess things up! I traced my template on the aluminum and cut it out. I bent it slightly and tested it for fit. It looked good, so I made the opposite side bracket. I then took the leap and made holes into the shoulders. This part was so scary for me!!!! But it worked out, and the brackets fit nicely. I made all three holes on each side, and marked the brackets with where I needed to attach the snaps. Drilled those holes out. (This was easy!) Set the snaps. Verified fit. Again. Scuffed up the side that was going to get the glue, and stuck the brackets on. I'm too lazy to drill a bunch of holes in there. I'll let everything cure over several days. I'm really glad that I haven't finished painting yet. Those holes look somewhat messy, and I know I would have been gutted to mess up the paint! This piece of armor is pretty dirty after all the cutting and trimming. Will give it a good cleaning before painting. Weather still not looking to cooperate with me for at least another week now. Ah, well. More time to think about other strapping that I can tackle in the meantime!

  38. Hello JR! Don't mind me I'm just creeping on other Arizona prospective members. I'm a TK with the Dune Sea Garrison down in Phoenix but I'm no stranger to Flagstaff. In fact, I was born there! I'm originally from just down the road in Winslow but I've been the Valley for most of my life now. I spent five years living in Flagstaff while I went to NAU and I sure do miss it a lot! It seems like you're pretty familar here and with the Dune Sea forums, so that's awesome. I was just wondering if you have received your kit yet and started a build thread? I look forward to seeing your work!

  39. As Glen said, it depends a lot on what you want to use it for and your budget. If it's just for Halloween, comicons, etc. you can get a set of armor from eBay, etsy or the like fairly inexpensively. If you are interested in the joining the 501st Legion the quality has to be a lot better and more screen accurate than the vast majority of the ones you will find on those sites. Joining the Legion gives you the chance not only to enjoy wearing it at sanctioned events throughout the year with fellow TKs (and other assorted Star Wars characters) but to make a lot of new friends in the SW community and help raise money for some really worthwhile causes. However, the price for quality armor is higher... you get what you pay for. Plus there are other items that will need to be purchased, like boots ($60-$100), neck seal ($30-$50), under suit ($40-$80), gloves, holster, blaster, build supplies etc. If you do decide that you are interested in joining and can fit the costs into your budget I highly recommend it! We are asked to appear at charity, community and sporting events, parades, children's hospitals, etc. The first time you see a face light up (especially the kids) when seeing "real" Stormtroopers will make it all worthwhile. Trust me.

  40. SUITED UP PHOTOS Here are some shots fully suited up to show fitting, proportions and overall look. Forgive the somewhat droopy front scope. I would need to heat bend it back. Probably due to old resin...

  43. To all those who don't have access to a 3D printer just send me a PM if you would like me to make you a set. I don't have a ton of free time but I'd like to help who I can with getting these wheel covers on your armor bins! I haven't figured out a cost yet but I'm thinking probably $10.00 should cover everything. Also, I forgot to say... Thank you for all of the positive feedback everyone! I really appreciate it!

  44. I'm not sure, but be prepared for SERIOUS sticker shock. That case likely costs MORE than your armor. I like the Husky 55 gal job boxes, personally. Holds everything and then some. Easy to cart around, even over less-than-perfect terrain. Heavy, and you need a car that'll fit them, but well worth it if you can! (and yes, I did emulate VancouverTrooper's paint scheme, with permission!)
