  1. 20,000 Posts! I would like to aknowledge one of our most active Detachment and staff member ever, on his incredible 20,000 post journey here on FISD Glen Rhodes gmrhodes13, (TK 85421). Not only does he offer solid and valuable advise to the greater membership across the many thousands of forum posts and threads on a daily basis, this year he has stepped up and assisted other staff and myself with multiple tasks like the forum headers and the what sometimes seems to be the insurmountable, forum clean up, and Photobucket post revitalization project. (what a mouthful) All this he has done without hesitation, and lets also not forget the truly wonderful job he does with our monthly news letter. He is here, he is there, he is everywhere!!! Thank you Glen, you are a true asset to our detachment and command team and I thank you for your support.

  2. Thank you all for the kind words, I must also thank our current DL Andrew @Sly11 and our founder Paul @Daetrin who has been a DL on more occasions that I can count, you guys have put up with me and I can be a pain in the neck. Just trying to give back to the forums for all those who have come before me and steered people in the right direction, FISD's mantra is "troopers helping troopers" and that's all I'm trying to do. This past year and a half has been very challenging time for me for medical reasons, I have probably been more active during this time compared to other years but I needed something to keep focus on, sorry if you guys are sick of seeing my flashing profile gif when you click "new content" This is a great community and a family and I hope to be part of it for some time to come

  3. Modified rank lines to be thicker and well defined. Modified tear lines to be well defined. The vocoder has been modified. Modified shoulder bells and the elastics that join the biceps and forearms. Removed the two additional elastic on the front of your shoulder bridges. Modified my Ab/Kidney connection to be addressed and reduce the gap. Thank you

  4. Hey folks, Just letting all and sundry know that I've had my forum handle changed from 'markgambino' (so formal!) to MightyAtom - a nickname from a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.

  6. So finally kicking off the build of my ATA ANH stunt kit. My plan is to build this to Centurion level specs. I'm planning to build this over the winter, so it's not a rush project. And I like to take my time and get it right the first time. So here is the kit unboxed. Everything looks great. Helmet kit. I'm going to start the with the helmet. Here are some close ups. The front is gorgeous! The back is a little bumpy towards the sides, but from what I have read, that is expected. Some more

  8. Wow, you are on FIRE with these fixes, Lluis! WELL DONE! I'm sure they turned out great, but the updated photos of the traps/ear bars are taken from a distance, so if you could post some clear close-up pics to show off your work that would be terrific!

  9. Yep, that's the thread that finally inspired me to try out 3D armor modeling. However, his results are easily greater than mine

  11. It may be a case of loose strapping. But in other cases you need to hold the sides in, I came up with a V tab which can help, some info here With a heat gun you bend strips of ABS plastic into the shape of a V, only glue one side (normally kidney) and the other remains free to allow movement when you bend. Just helps stop the butt plate from pushing back from the back plate.

  12. Regardless that I’m fairly new, we appreciate all you do. Especially given this year. Now what mug shot are you gonna submit for the newsletter? That’s what I wanna know.

  13. Looking good, I found ears to be the most demanding piece of the whole kit with my first build, get easier the more you build but still a pain

  14. I have to take another picture. I just fixed the two parts of the helmet with one screw on each side in place of the ears, so the two halfs tilt a little bit. Depending how you hold the helmet, the brow is high, or lower. I have to decide and to try out, where to set the rivets at the bottom. I like the low-brow. I saw on most pictures the low-brow at the hero-helmets, but i can´t help my self. It is like it is and i know i have to lift the brow a little bit.

  21. I would also have to echo this statement. Glen has offered up many pearls of wisdom to me, and located things in the forums I knew existed but could not find. His knowledge and omnipresence is amazing. Thank you and congratulations Glen.

  23. The Pugman type ESB Stunt blaster was used in ROTJ on some Endor and Death Star scenes. Click on the image I posted, it will take you to the larger photo with much better details.

  24. I have a few more images of screen used E-11 from the 2018 trip I took with a friend to a screen used prop collector, but I'm not allowed to post them (yet), maybe in the future.

  26. Hello! I've been watching this forum for years now looking at different people's builds, but haven't made an account until today. Off and on for the past 7 months, I've been teaching myself 3D modeling. Starting with little things (like wargaming piece modifications) and gradually moving my way up. That being said, I'm not one who is able to easily and quickly create things 100% from scratch just yet. So something I started doing was using old low-poly video game models and turn them into something actually nice to look at. I plan on continuing this process for different helmets throughout star wars games. Would I be able to upload pictures and links to the 3D models on this thread so other people can use them even if they are for costumes not yet approved by the 501st? Will this be ok or does the armor stuff on here have to be 100% good stuff? The models will be 100% free and stored on thingiverse when I make an account there, so I'm not trying to advertise or make a profit on anything. This is just a hobby of mine during my days where I'm not busy with life or college. Thanks for reading and sorry for all the questions, just want to make sure I don't step into dark territory!

  29. So a bit of an update: Since my last post, work started back up in office so I've been pretty busy, unable to do anything costuming related. BUT with the year coming to a close soon, and with some more time on my hands, I'll hopefully have this beauty painted by 2021 (or before January ends if that doesn't work out)! My RotJ E-11 blaster has also shipped so that's something I'm waiting on too. After that it's just waiting on the armor from 850 to get the build finished (I've also started work on a custom Mando that should keep me busy till then hopefully). I know interest in the helmet files are there, but I have my own concerns on putting them up for sale that I have to think on (since two of us had this commissioned, but never really discussed if this could be sold or not, but I'm the only one still working on it), so we will see. But I do want to release it and let other people build and show off their own Triton Troopers. This trooper I feel deserves more recognition and more spot in the limelight I'll update on my paint progress soon!

  36. Very kind gesture Luke, you are already showing signs of our unofficial motto of "Troopers helping troopers", and that will be greatly appreciated. You've got the links to our special 3D section, there are a few stipulations we require for you to add to your posts about sharing files etc so have a read of those, take a good look around and welcome to FISD!

  37. Thanks Glen! The black paint in the post above was done a few days ago, so today was coat #1 of the grey (Humbrol 5 Dark Admiralty Grey Gloss). Please let me know what y'all think. My preference is the very thin black borders. I definitely had some "Dank Farrik!!" moments where the brush didn't cooperate (always blame the tools!) and the black was too thin, mostly on the rear traps. I took a close look and thankfully I didn't wipe out the black line completely in any of these areas. I think they're still ok, but I may try to fix them tomorrow. And I went a smidge low on the middle three teeth into the lower gums, so I'll take a toothpick dipped in mineral spirits to them as well as some other areas with wobbles. But overall, I'm pleased with how today's paint session went. Sorry, the lighting isn't great in these pics. I'll try using the flash next time to see if the colors come out better.

  39. Ok, you can seal this. I don’t know if you want to put this as a wip and then I can start a new request. I’ll just add the photos that needed to be updated.

  40. Looking good, applying the black fist is a great way to get those lines nice and straight, well done so far

  41. Once you have finished with the updates I would suggest updating your first post with the corrected images as this application is starting to get very stretched out, OR you could start a new application and this one can be sealed, up to you. It gets to be hard work for the DO's if everything is spread over 4 pages Try to only post images listed in the guides, others may be requested by the DO's, you can find a list of photos requested here Great work on all the updates and hope to see you approved soon

  42. Next stop, bucket painting. The main references I'm using as a guide are @CableGuy's ANH Stunt - helmet painting tips thread and linked YouTube vids (what a glorious helmet!) and starswarshelmets.com: http://www.starwarshelmets.com/original-ANH-Stunt-Stormtrooper-armor-helmets.htm Sample references of the Dave M (L) and Brian R (R) helmets: So far I started with all the black (Humbrol 85 Satin Black), as I was hoping for feedback before I continue on with the grey (Humbrol 5 Dark Admiralty Grey Gloss. I know I painted more than I needed to here, but it was mostly pulling excess paint from the borders during application of 2 coats. Ear bars are done too, forgot to take pics.

  43. Forearms: Belt snaps were too tight to allow the belt to stay any higher so I removed and raised their position.

  44. That webbing looks fairly close to the screen used prop, but we have already determined that the fabric roll is in fact a Russian Plash Palatka, not a U.S. Half-Shelter! It’s the same poncho worn by the Mimban Troopers in the SOLO movie.

  45. UPDATE! It looks like we are one step closer! While doing our research, we somehow we missed issuing a Centurion number to Charles Ecton (Templar726-TK 72627) for his insanely cool Death Trooper armor (link here) in 2016. We have rectified that, and he is now Centurion #478. With the recent addition of Rob T., that puts us at only 21 spaces remaining...... getting close now, so get those submissions in soon!

  47. Hola Lluis , las nuevas fotos se ven muy bien, pero revisando mas detalladamente con el D.O. Team, hay varios puntos que corregir para que estés listo. Hi Lluis, the updated photos looks great, but looking in detail with the D.O. team, there are some points to fix and you're golden : 1- Entre los requisitos para Centurion indicados en tu aplicación de EIB se solicitaron ajustes de pintura en varias zonas del casco: In your EIB app some paint fixes to your helmet were pointed as Centurion requirements Las líneas re rango deben ser más gruesas y definidas The rank lines should be thicker and well defined References Los lagrimales fueron corregidos y el grosor esta bien pero las líneas se ven muy irregulares por lo que es necesario definirla más The tear lines were corrected but the lines look very irregular so it is necessary to define it a bit References El vocoder se ve mucho mejor pero al igual que los puntos anteriores es necesario refinar algunas zonas , indicadas con las flechas. The vocoder looks much better but like the previous points it is necessary to refine some areas, indicated by the arrows. Another quick fix is to remove the two additional elastic on the front of your shoulder bridges, just the rear are required. Reference Es requerido que alargues los elásticos que unen los biceps y los antebrazos de manera que estos bajen un poco mas cerca de las muñecas. It's required to lengthen the elastics that join the biceps and forearms so that they drop a little closer to the wrists. Reference Finalmente, aun hay un espacio entre tu placa abdominal y la lumbar y deben alinearse . Finally, there's still a gap between your Ab/Kidney connection that needs to be addressed Reference Son varios detalles pero estamos seguros de que puedes con ellos , déjanos saber si podemos ayudarte en algo. Certainly, it seems to be a lot of work ahead, but we are confident that you can deal with it , let's us know if we can help you. Estás a solo unos pasos Lluis!!!

  48. Got more done. Still have to finish 1 bicep, TD, paint the belt pieces, and other misc pieces. Just about have enough money to order the cape. As for the boots and gloves, I might just have to paint them for now. I am having trouble finding someone who can get this done to the color I need and timely.
