  1. Hey all!! Just checking in for the first time as an official TK, having been approved late last evening!! My name is Joe, from the Imperial 80th Squad of the 501st Legion’s Central Garrison, and I’m very excited to now be a part of the FISD..! Like some, I decided to make becoming a member of the 501st Legion part of a silver lining to the year that was 2020… I’ve been very fortunate to have built and assembled together with a ton of help from family, friends, and forum members, a handful of approved costumes, the latest and very recent of which has been an original A New Hope Stormtrooper…!

  3. Hello all, Just a quick introduction. My name is Cley and I live in Western Canada. Currently having Dave's Darkside Depot create a set of ANH stunt trooper armor for me so I can take the next steps to join this prestigious group. Looking forward to my own BBB day so I can show off my new armor to you all. I already have most of my soft parts ordered (boots from Imperial Boots and an undersuit from Amazon). Just looking for a good neckseal. Found a few on Etsy but making sure they conform before I buy. Anyway, hello all. Looking forward to meeting you all and becoming an active member.

  6. Hey Chris, Looks like a good step up on the previous version. More organic, for sure. Main things for me would be as below; Frown height and shape of the teeth/size of the cutouts don’t look right to my eyes. Also, the furthest edges seem to droop down. Traps and tears; As below, the traps and tears look quite “squared”. These could be softer curves for more ANH appearance. Brow line on ANH usually raises up a touch. If you have pictures of your design from side on, I’ll highlight it. Ears are also quite “squared” compared with original trilogy. Hope that helps. Nice progress from version one. Looking much more OT and less R1. [emoji1303]

  7. The Bluetooth transmitter turned up today. Works perfectly. Far better than having wires to deal with when putting my helmet on. 9. I built a galactic marine clone kit and learned how to shim - the process sounds similar to what you have to do with your fotk kit. Please read my build doc and scroll down to the part “Shimming Armor” Link: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1MLWhXs6wegJA4m5T4m2ShO0Ms0ElCLwDRUtEjTAe4eE/edit I am also stuck on my build so don’t get discourage. Take a deep breath and you will get through it. Don’t give up.

  10. Hi Zack! The only 2 items we can see are the light sabers, but in looking at your total it looks as if there are other items. If one of those is a set of Stormtrooper armor, can you provide a link? The reason I ask is that if you are interested in joining the 501st, anything made by Rubies is not accurate. Not even close. The helmets are not accepted at all, and the armor takes a LOT of work to meet standards. There are many vetted vendors (link here) who can provide a top-notch kit you if this is your goal. If you are asking about the light sabers, I would suggest checking out the Sith Lord Detachment (link here), but anything Stormtrooper related we are more than happy to help with. Just ask! (Especially before spending any money)!!

  17. Should be interesting to see how that performs for you. To clarify I used the wired version of the apple earbuds, not the bluetooth model. They were the only wired earbuds I had in the house, used for sound performance testing and to ensure I labelled the mics left and right correctly. I am more interested in a hard wired speaker solution that sits permanently in the bucket.

  18. Decided to make the holster somewhat usable. So I put some screws in the gun where it already had some dimples for it to "hook" onto the thigh holster. Then I cut the sides and back off the thigh holster part. Screws slid right in so it should work well. I did accidently drill too large of a hole for one of the screws. So I added a piece of cardboard and threw some super glue on it for good measure. Sent from my SM-G991U using Tapatalk

  19. Finished bondo and sanding with the body. So after a coat of filler primer I can now see areas that will need some attention. This plastic has a nasty habit of getting super buggered up when sanding. So I'll have to do multiple coats of the primer, sanding lightly with probably 4-500 grit sandpaper to get s smooth finish. My daughter did feel the need to point out that this wasn't the correct color for Phasma. Sent from my SM-G991U using Tapatalk

  21. My transport box actually arrived, alongside my Holster, making it the fastest delivery of this build. My new holster is the one by Darman and whilst it first seems heavier and bigger than expected, it looks good once I secured it to the belt: Only a short update today, because I spend the majority of my time reworking my strapping, which takes a lot of time but doesn't allow too many opportunities for pictures as of now. Once I get it done, I will post a picture.

  22. Big brown box day has finally arrived!! Will be doing some test fitting and I'm sure a few adjustments this weekend. Then I plan to submit 501st application next week if all goes well. Thanks to Dave Conklin of Dave's Darkside Depot for the excellent commission build. Sent from my IN2025 using Tapatalk

  23. I know it doesn't seem like it, but it has taken weeks to print, sand, fill, sand and prep this weapon for paint. I really like the results though! I am not going to paint it until the CRL is live. Next step: finish the tanks.

  24. First up my gloves are a success! Next, I decided to try my hand at making a custom Mesh press tool set. used PLA with High infill. (these will not last as PLA for more than a few times) But it worked! Though, I discovered a minor flaw in my design once I got to this stage. I should have made the top and bottom both square, to facilitate keeping the top and bottom aligned when in the vice. (it was a bit harder to keep the round part centered over the hole) I've made some minor adjustments to the tool model, but this one lasted and worked well enough for this time. I'm going to go with the Left one (they are not the same, but close). Got some input from an expert who agrees with my choice. LEFT: #16 stainless mesh. RIGHT: #14 stainless mesh next up, paint the inside white and figure out how to glue these in without getting it all over everything..

  25. Hi Joseph, Would you mind adding some info to your post above. Geeky Pinks have told me that they are able to produce all of their items in non-leather alternatives, for those plant based troopers amongst us. In their words, this includes: "...neck seals... pauldrons, gunner bibs, vader suit, imperial knight, jedi or sith items, jawa bandoliers... Basically any item the SW universe could need in leather, I'll make in a vinyl/faux leather"

  26. Ab plate fix looking good. You could trim your smaller ab plate a little more, yours looks curved on the sides and overhangs the raised area, references below

  27. Ab and buttons update. Here's a quick shot of the Han snap I installed. Below is the process I went through to fix the ab button plate. There was just enough scrap left around the ammo belt button that I could use to create a plate. I careful removed the ammo button and rectangled? squared it off. For stability, I took some more scrap abs and built up a stack to create more surface area to glue on. I didn't want to rely solely on abs paste! Then I attached the two sides together. ABS paste time! I used a toothpick to spread it around the seams and after it dried, I went through the riding grits of sandpaper to smooth out the edge. In hindsight, I definitely should have just left the edges around the original pull and filled in the dents with abs paste. Would have been much easier. But at least I got that sweet sweet abs paste experience.

  28. Interesting. So DD’s commission builds aren’t out of the box ready? I suppose that’s why you got more soft parts? Yes I can imagine it’s not without some anxiety. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  29. Hi Cley and welcome aboard future Trooper! Have a read in the “Getting Started-Read this First” section, as there is some really good info in there for new members. Then, have a read in “Costuming and Builds” section to discover other troopers who are building (or have built) the same armor as you! Really good tips, examples, pictures, previously answered questions, and successes here. In addition to looking at all the various build threads, I highly recommend checking out the “Advanced Tactics” section where you can see examples of those who have taken their armor to the next levels of screen accuracy (EIB and Centurion). I’d recommend that you aim to build to one of the certification levels, as TK’s look their best at these levels. It's really not hard to acquire EIB or Centurion, and it’s best to do during your build rather that after. If, and when, you’re looking for other bits –and-pieces, accessories, boots, blasters, electronics, etc., be sure to check out the “Imperial Commissary” section for items for sale, project runs, and for other stuff that most of the troopers use. Also, make contact with your local Garrison. They’ll help guide you through the process of becoming a member of the 501st, and may have local Armor Parties in the works where you can get hands-on build advice and guidance, not to mention meet members of your future Garrison. So, start a build thread here on FISD; post lots of pictures and questions. We are all here to help you out and to make sure you look your best, and represent the 501st as best as possible. All the best on your TK journey!
