  1. NEW Detachment Leader Deployment Office Centurion500 Merchandise Just For Laughs Trooping In the Media INFORMATION & AWARD PROGRAMS Common FISD Acronyms and TK Glossary Pre Approval Forum 3D Section Field Exercise Award Master Armorer Program Imperial Attaché Program Fire Teams EIB & Centurion: What do these terms mean? Advanced Tactics Awards Public Relations Staff List 2020 Follow FISD Greetings fellow troopers Wow! what an eventful month we just had and have gone head strong into another here at FISD. It's been a very exciting time to be a member if you love special merch as we closed out on the Victory 1000 sales thread and the exclusive EI 1000 pins. The pins have now gone into production so it wont be too long before we start seeing them proudly worn on the pockets and lapels of garrison and detachment shirts. The 11' patch samples came in and under scrutiny, we weren't fully satisfied with some of the colors so have requested some color corrections to the hues in the sample. I'm happy to say, we should see the final update by the time you read this and will have given the nod for production to go forward. I honestly cant wait to get this patch in my hot little hands and onto the back of a jacket or vest. Centurion500 came hot on the heals of Victory 1000 and has successfully been launched. You can read all about this next milestone a little further down in this edition. Several CRL projects have been underway and other work has begun on more of our existing costume references that are in need of some good TLC. The TFU Stormtrooper CRL is complete and currently under review of the LMO's, we should have a green light on this in the very near future and it will become the newest edition to FISD. Commander Pyre CRL and costume build work is continuing with Dino doing a great job so far. We are working with the LMO's to make sure they are satisfied each step of the way. This costume is limited in references from the animated series, and a Black series 6" figure. We are working with Dino to create a realistic version of this costume garnering details from the LFL graphic sheets we have of the animated character, using the 6" figure as a secondary reference only. The LMO's are pleased with this route, and I for one look very much forward to seeing this costume complete. It will be most impressive. Phasma TFA CRL update has started. This will be a long process by design. The initial CRL is off in several areas and in some instances we feel it is not fit for purpose. The team working on this are going to be as meticulous as possible, fix the errors, revitalize lvl 2 and potentially add a Centurion level as well. Something for those who love this costume to look forward to. We owe it to the membership to get the first order captain to the level she deserves. TLJ will get the same treatment once TFA is complete. On the OT TK CRL front, staff are currently in discussion regarding a couple of changes to the helmet. These changes would affect several OTTK versions, and those suggested changes are under refinement. I will be opening a Poll for the proposed changes so you the membership can play a part and vote on these. This will influence the final decision before it goes to the LMO's for their appraisal and ultimate yay or nay. We do this because some of these changes could effect approval at any of the levels. I'll leave it there for this month but as always, stay safe, stay well and I'll see you on the forums. With Unquestioned Loyalty Andrew Franke TK11469 "Sly11" Detachment Leader We would like to congratulate 2 troopers who have gone above and beyond! Ardeshir R. @equuspolo TK-42128 and Justin R. @TheRascalKing TK-61490 have both earned their FOURTH Expert Infantry badges for their ANH Stunt, ANH Hero, ESB and Heavy Weapons Trooper armor. We would also like to congratulate Ardeshir R. @equuspolo TK-42128 for achieving his FOURTH Centurion. Doing this once is an accomplishment in itself, and doing it 4 times really shows serious dedication and pride in their screen accuracy. I event I wanted to share with you in particular was the online convention, Infernocon, we held last month which raised over $1200 for the MAW Foundation. While the online portion of the conference likely doesn't qualify as an event, the squad decided to meet for a socially distanced, masks under helmets, photoshoot at the end of the conference. This was primarily to get the squad together, while adhering to local regulations, as well as to provide online participants an example of what trooping looks like in light of Coronavirus restrictions. I understand that regulations are different everywhere, but overall this ended up being a successful event that might be fun to share with the community. The garrison has continued to provide limited participation to various events and has shared pics via Facebook and the garrison forum to show what responsible pandemic trooping looks like. This also reminds the community that even during a pandemic, "bad guys doing good," is still available. Also, early indications are that the squad is planning a "Holiday Special" in December. Please see the attached pics from the event. Thanks, Jason "BigJasoni" TK-Recruit ‘The Mandalorian and the Child’ Titled “The Mandalorian and the Child,” the portrait, produced in collaboration with the National Portrait Gallery, has been unveiled at The Unit gallery in London. The Child is popularly referred to as Baby Yoda by fans of the series. The portrait’s unveiling from Oct. 30-31 will coincide with the season 2 premiere of “The Mandalorian,” which streams on Disney Plus from Oct. 30. The 3-feet-by-2-feet oil portrait will hang alongside some of the National Portrait Gallery’s own collection of portraits of familiar faces from the “Star Wars” galaxy, including Sir Alec Guinness, Thandie Newton, Felicity Jones, Ben Morris, Riz Ahmed and Gareth Edwards. The display will also include original concept art from “The Mandalorian,” created by artists Doug Chiang, John Park and Christian Alzman. Luke Bradley-Jones, senior vice president at Disney Plus, said: “This is truly the way to mark the arrival of the second season of ‘The Mandalorian.’ We are honored to unveil this portrait in collaboration with the esteemed National Portrait Gallery. The show and characters created by Jon Favreau have been embraced by fans across the U.K. who can now stand a step closer to inspect them on canvas before streaming the new episodes.” Ros Lawler, chief operating officer at National Portrait Gallery, added: “There is no doubt that ‘Star Wars’ is a cultural phenomenon that has had a huge impact on popular culture and has involved a wide range of talent from across the British film industry. We are delighted to have worked with Disney Plus on the Star Wars display, which includes the painting of ‘The Mandalorian and the Child’. We hope that this unique collaboration between the Gallery and Disney Plus will encourage new audiences and young people to our collection, allowing them to come face to face with their ‘Star Wars’ heroes.” INFORMATION & AWARD PROGRAMS Are you new to the FISD and wondering what the heck all those abbreviations and strange sounding terms mean? Some people spend countless hours helping others, and want to reward their results as well as incentivizing new people to help as well. To register a “win” in the program, the assistance must have provided hands-on help trimming, building, and/or fitting of said armor for the person who was awarded Expert Infantry status. Other program notes: • Helping remotely, giving advice, or taking payment in exchange for help does not account, all work must be voluntary and without expectation of compensation. • The assistance must be for a period of 30 minutes or more. Spending 15 minutes tweaking someone’s fitting or taking photos does not count. • "wins" can be retroactive, e.g. if you helped 5 people in 2017 already, those can count as long as they are fully documented. Award Levels • 5+ “wins”: FISD Armorer Badge • 15+ “wins” FISD Senior Armorer Badge • 25+ “wins” FISD Master Armorer Badge The process • Person applying for the award will create an application thread to track the help they give. • For each “win”, they will list the person they helped achieve Expert Infantry status by copying their EI approval thread. • For each “win”, the person who was helped will validate that this person helped them. These programs were designed for those who choose to take their armor above and beyond the minimum requirements for basic 501st Legion approval. It gives you the chance to show a level of dedication and pride that takes your armor closer to being as "screen accurate" as possible, without as much extra work as you may realize! It also works on giving a better look to the Legion as an entity, and you can bet others will take notice of your hard work. The 501st has a list of detailed requirements for Basic approval, (level 1), EIB, (level 2) and Centurion, (level 3) which can be found here in the Costume Reference Library, (CRL) http://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:FISD_CRL Here are a few of the questions people may be wondering about: 1. "I am a (tall/short/heavy/thin) Trooper. Can I still apply? Of course! These programs are open and encouraged for all sizes of TKs, as long as the costume is correct and meets the guidelines. There are many specific build tutorials to every option, as well as a vast network of fellow TKs on the FISD to help you out and offer suggestions. 2. "How much extra will I have to pay for extra items"? The cost is actually quite reasonable, considering the few extra supplies you will need, which are listed in the requirements area. While it may run you a little more to implement these additions to your costume, they will go a long way to improving accuracy. All needed items can be found for sale on this thread: https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/16-ongoing-sales-project-orders/ While blasters are not required for basic approval, for EIB and Centurion levels they are, and may need upgrades (also listed in the CRL). 3. "I haven't even got my kit yet, is it too early to start planning"? Actually, aiming for Centurion is easiest to do right out of the box. 4. "I have my basic TK approval, can I still get in these programs"? In a word... absolutely! 5. "Are there any "perks" to this extra work and cost"? Besides knowing that you have a great looking set of armor, the 501st and FISD believes you should be deservedly recognized for your achievement(s), and allows you to wear the appropriate embroidered "rocker" badge of rank (available for a very minimum cost) on your shirt, helmet bag, etc., as well as rank decals to put on your armor bin. You will also have access to select "challenge coin" runs, receive (free) a cool certificate for your new rank, and have your title posted below your name in your FISD signature. Plus, once you reach these levels, you will have the extra knowledge to help out those who are looking to apply as well. 6. "Is it hard to apply, and what happens then"? After basic approval, all you do is make sure your armor is up to the standards set forth in the CRL, post a thread with the required photos in the appropriate area (see below), and wait a bit for the D.O.s (Deployment Officers) to address it. (Hint: Studying other people's threads before you submit can be a GREAT help). These are also listed on the main page of the FISD site. While waiting for approval, you will get some comments from others who will offer suggestions and constructive advice to help you out. If you should need any changes, the DOs will let you know, so you can adjust accordingly. Don't be dismayed if you do need changes... it's all for your benefit! After you are approved for EIB, then you can submit for Centurion. 3. Hey everybody, I'm TB32899 from Garrison Carida. Been informally with the 501st since 2015 after they came to visit me after I had brain surgery, and I've formally been a member since March of 2019 with my Biker Scout suit. I'm looking to expand and make an ESB TK and then work from there on a new costume that uses it as a base. Looking forward to working with everyone on here and learning from you guys!

  4. Shawn, And anyone still deciding on a manufacturer for buying a suit... I sent RSP more detailed pics, plus resent the original measurements on Friday. I knew the 8hr time difference would mean they wouldn’t see the email till today. In my inbox this morning, a sincere apology, an address to ship these pieces, and confirmation of the dimensions to make new ones immediately. I did expect to get a little pushback, but was hopeful they would make it right vs me cutting them. And I wasn’t disappointed... no pushback. Very professional and I am ok with the mistake. It happens. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  7. I trust you’ll be honored and not offended but I’m intending to copy your helmet insides. I like that look. I bought a can of truck bed spray on liner, MaskedVengeance supplied me with some screen, I have UKSWRATH’s fans and audio iComm, new Jovi tips, and I need to (apparently) fuel down the green film for the eyes. One other question. Is shortening the bolts a bad thing? I sincerely do not like the extra length. As a ME, it’s bothering me to not have it be to spec of a bolt seat dimension. 9. Hey Scott, Looking through your photos, it still looks like you're missing the photo showing the 'Han snap', which is an L3 requirement: A single male snap on the top right corner of the ab plate is present. Reference Image: Finally, as Glen mentioned, we'd like no or minimal overlap between the back and kidney. The overlap isn't present in your EIB application which makes me think it's a dressing issue. Could you take a look and post updated photos? Thanks!

  11. Definitely not ABS (which is why you see the new ABS makers including parts that are 3D-printed or resin cast... you simply cannot pull the level of detail that is the hallmark of these suits in ABS), it's most likely a flexible injection-molded polyurethane as stated above. And for the record, many of the suits I saw on set were TRASHED and being held together by gaff tape. We saw guys sitting down in some of the extra feature materials? It was because every one of their posterior armor was cracked almost in half and taped over. But anyways, it's extremely unlikely that any hobby-level maker would be able to produce them using the screen accurate process and material, but Jim "Jimmiroquai" Tripon's proprietary flexible fiberglass is definitely the closest currently available and does a great job capturing the details. His sculpt isn't perfect and some details are off, but it's darn good and much better than the ABS, in my opinion.

  14. This is the Testors spray can I used. The colour is very similar to my tears traps and frown paint. It is a semi gloss and I guess batch to batch may have some colour variance too. This is the Primer as opposed to Aircraft gray which I definitely find too dark, I think I have that one somewhere as well lol. Hope this helps.

  15. Thanks for this feedback, friends! That's an excellent idea about leaving a little extra on the cap front sides under the ears, particularly at the bottom near the neck, just to be safe. I will definitely employ that technique! A question I forgot to ask in my previous post is regarding WHEN to spray the interior of the helmet. I see most builders do it AFTER cutting out the eyes and teeth, but Ales (ATA helmet) did it at the VERY BEGINNING. I can foresee the paint hiding potential cut lines if sprayed before trimming, but if I can overcome that, would there be issues with the sanding process, or some paint peeking out when viewing the teeth from the front? I see that some troopers go back and manually touch up (brush) the areas around the eyes and teeth after removing the masking tape. Because my paint is truck bed coating, it should remain unaffected by moisture, so I wouldn't think sanding cleanup would be an issue. Am I missing something?

  16. Hi Colin, and thank you for your application for Expert Infantry!! CRL and EIB Application Requirements All required photos are now in and, after review, we are pleased to welcome you to EI! On behalf of the entire DO staff, congratulations!! Other-Armor Fit/Assembly In this area we review observations made by your fellow troopers and the DO team. Some observations may lead to suggestions to improve the overall look of your armor. Note that we consider both text (CRL) and pictures (screen caps/reference images) when reviewing submissions. Overall a spectacular build you have here brother! Just a few items in this area, so let's get to it! It's obvious you have some mad painting skills, but we are asking for a few quick touch-ups to make it look even better! Although you got the tops nailed perfectly, the front of the right one, the rear of the left one and both bottoms could definitely be thinned out with some gray paint to make them more uniform all the way around. Reference images While you have your paints out, we are requesting that you define the tops of the ridges on your vocoder a bit more. Reference images Depending on how screen accurate you want to be, we suggest trimming down the top and bottom of the ABS belt. It doesn't need to go all the way down to the edges of the raised boxes... as a matter of fact I would leave a small amount to inhibit cracking at the edges, but it could definitely be reduced. This means that the drop boxed would need to be raised a bit. Reference images As mentioned in the comments, your TD caps are pretty wide in comparison with what was seen onscreen. Hopefully you put these on using just pressure and not glue. This is not a deal breaker, but if you DO decide (hint hint) to reduce the width, the clips will have to be moved over/out as well. You should have plenty of room so that the clips will cover the old screw holes. Reference images Centurion Requirements In this section we prepare you for Centurion. More photos may be requested in the future that allow us to make better decisions on possible adjustments. If there are any areas of concern they will be discussed here. Because Centurion photos show much more detail than EIB, items to pertaining to Centurion might be seen there and not here. We try to point out all that we can from what is seen, but the final accuracy is the responsibility of the trooper. Not too many issues here, but as you know we get a lot more into the small details that lead to better screen accuracy for Centurion. In looking at your build thread, I get the feeling you not only can you address these issues, but that you will have awesome results! The back view looks perfect, but from the front you will see gaps between the tops of the shoulder bells and the shoulder bridges. Shortening the elastic will eliminate this. Reference images Another issue that can be taken care of with a few strapping adjustments is your back/kidney overlap. Raising the back half an inch would get you where you need to be. Reference images In looking at the reference images below, we are asking that you raise it a little to at least cover more of the bottom of the ab-button plate(s). Ideally it should touch (or even overlap a bit) the bottom button(s). Reference images This is a common issue and an easy one to fix... Your right one is spot-on, but the outside edge of your left drop-box needs to align with the outside edge of the ABS belt. Moving it outward and then applying a dab of E-6000 on the rear of the strap will take care of this and keep it from wandering. Reference images As seen in the reference images, the clips on the TD do not extend beyond the bottom of the canvas belt. Some tin snips (or a hacksaw) and some low-grit sandpaper to smooth out the rough edges and you are good to go! Reference images Last up, I gotta' say that is one impressive blaster... you did a magnificent job getting rid of the 3D print lines! Also, GREAT job on the weathering... not too much, not too little. However, we are requesting that you move the Hengstler counter forward. The rear of the counter should line up with the rear bolt of the folding stock. Reference images And that's it, sir! Nothing listed above that you can't handle with those awesome build skills you have, so once you get those taken care of we fully expect to see that Centurion submission right after... and become a part of the "Original 500". Great job!

  17. And if Glen's idea does not work for you, maybe you can install your speaker inside the Hengstler counter box. Getting the wires there can be challenging, but I have seen people running them below the scope rail or right through the receiver pipe into the counter.

  19. Applications can take several weeks depending on workload, discussion and of course real life, hang in there trooper I'm sure the DO's will be along soon.

  20. Well done, trooper. The grey looks much better. As you say, the black lines are a little thick at the moment. You could thin those out by using your grey paint. If you wanted to, you could enlarge the size of the “tears” as they are currently a little on the small side. Here’s how far I managed to push mine on my TM. Keep up the good work. :-)

  21. Good luck Scott, your kit looks great. The above suggestions should help you out with this approval.

  22. Thanks Glen, You have a great eye. I know I will have to repaint that grip for sure I'm just hoping to get through this before I take the time to remove the handle and strip it down. Everytime I hold my blaster the grip shows a little more paint worn away so it's inevitable. But if I have to dust it for now to get me by I'll do it. 23. I'll add my 2 cents, from a fellow newbie perspective who's also currently working on an ATA helmet. For pretty much all my initial guidelines, I sketched them following the mold lines and as you're planning to do, my initial cuts were 2-3mm short of the lines and then trimmed little by little towards the lines until it was to my liking. As far as the cap sides, I believe what Justin mentions above is what I did (visual below). I did this because since I had no idea where my screw/rivet would go, I wanted more surface available. I ended up trimming these corners down a bit later, but it helped with initial mock up of face to cap/back. I trimmed all the way to the mold lines on my neck from the get go, but it couldn't hurt to follow your line and then trim back as needed. I personally cut to the mold lines due to having a fairly thick neck, and even now, without the s-trim the neck sits on my Adam's apple and is a bit uncomfortable. Perhaps when I get padding inside, it'll correct that issue for me. As for eyes, I did what you did and traced the mold lines. And I also used a Dremel cut off wheel for the initial cuts (again 3 or so mm short of the lines, and then little by little sanded toward the lines with the barrel sanders. This worked well for me, just took my time. My final eyes are again, pretty darn in line with the mold lines. And again as Justin mentioned above, I still had to take the inside/nose side corners down a bit more to get rid of the return edges. Just used a smaller diameter Dremel barrel sander and a round file for that. Working on ears as of now...they're NOT fun.

  27. Thank you Glen! My main takeaway from this is that I have too much return edge on my abdominal plate. Once I get basic approval, I’ll plan on cutting the sides and top here, filling the holes and redoing my riveting/strapping.

  29. Or, peel the cover strip off now, and hot water bath it to shape … then re-E6000 it to the calf.

  30. The recent issue of the comic book Star Wars produced by Marvel, shows in detail and more "realistic" the armor of Sergeant Kreel. Wearing of course your light saber, jetpack, SE-14R Blaster, right arm accessory, pauldron and other accessories. In my opinion, I see all the same elements of a Stormtrooper stunt armor. Except the chest , abdomen and pair of parallel lines as detail on the left shoulder. Adding also the accessories mentioned above and that can be seen in the images. And even more pictures inside the comic. I think there is enough reference to start a built of this character and and why not, a possible new CRL, what do you think? http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Star_Wars_37 http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Kreel

  31. I marked the holes on the inner strip side and used a dremel to sand out the holes to match the inner strip. I used a small cone sanding attachment to make room for the small sanding drum to even it out. Then, following cricket’s tutorial, I lined up the other side and taped and used magnets to keep it closed. Then, with them still held closed, I used the same two step process to sand out the other side.

  32. I say go for it. Someone has to be the first, and we've certainly seen stormtrooper costumes based on comic book characters - the Legacy stormtrooper comes to mind.
