  1. It wont be too much longer folks, there are several things going on in the background at the moment and the plan is to have them all go live as close as possible to each other. We have held the Newsletter back to capture all of it as well, so trust me when I say your detachment staff are busy getting this all aligned

  2. Good afternoon everyone, new to all of this, but a die hard Star Wars fan and bounty hunter fan since I was a kid. I'm Wayne, been a nurse for 18 going on 19 years, was watching some of the behind the scenes from Mandolorian on Disney+ last night and my mouth about dropped open when they called the 501st and you guys from the So. Cal area stood in as extras... my heart dropped when I found out there's an Inland Empire Squad and right on it I was. Been talking to a few of the guys who actually were in that Mandolorian episode and I'm just giddy like I'm 10 years old again at even just the thought of I could build my own armor and look like I walked off a set and be a part of this kind of thing. SO EXCITED about this. Anyhow, a little bit about me, I grew up in so cal, literally 5 blocks from disneyland, lived here all my life, spent 3 years in the US Army stationed first in an OSUT unit for basic training and AIT at Fort Sill Oklahoma (am a 13B artilleryman by training), then permanent duty at Fort Bliss in El Paso Texas for the remainder of my enlistment. I got out of the Army and wanted to be a police officer, sought my education and graduated in 2000 with my first AS degree in criminal justice. Took the EMT course over that summer and fell in love with the medical field. 2 years later found me in the LVN/LPN program, started working after graduation as a registry nurse in the acute hospitals taking assignments first in a gero-psych unit as a med nurse, then one night got asked if I had any ER experience by the shift sup, got sent to ED to assist the two RN's there. From that point I got pushed into ICU to take 2 patients, med/surg and tele units and of course ER. Did that for four years, then in 2007 we had a shift in nursing to RN only. Went through Cancer with my dad in 2009 which put my RN off a bit, then finally returned to school in 2013 to pursue my RN licensing. In 2017 I graduated the RN program, quickly started my bachelors degree and finished it last year in June, took a year off and am now pursuing my Masters in nursing education which will last a year and a half. I have, since I was a kid, always wanted to be a storm trooper, and even one year a home-made Boba Fett costume had me out trick or treating. This is super cool that this even exists and even more cool that there's a squad right here where I live, which I was totally unaware of. The guys on the Inland Empire said this might be the best for the first run costume to get started. I'm super stoked to get going on this... So giddy right now it's not even funny that I MAY even be just ABLE to do this, let alone it's something that I actually can do... yay!!! -Wayne.

  3. Assembly! I've painted the tear ducts/vents (?) and feel they've come up well. All feedback welcome. After a little persuasion from the heat gun, the Ukswrath HOVI mix tips sunk in nicely into the cavity. I put some Sugru on the thread, so they won't be moving any time soon. I also used Surge to install the frown mesh. I gotta say, those HOVI mix tips look awesome! Thanks again to @ukswrathfor his sterling work.

  4. You can either download all your photobucket images (unless they changed the free download) OR you can right click on each image in your thread, then select "open link in new tab" this will open the photobucket image up in a new page, you then right click on the image and "save image as", NOW the time consuming bit, you will then have to upload to another free image host and copy all the new image links back into your posts, this is the way Andrew and I have been doing it for all the threads we have updated to date. I've been using Imgur which is another free image host and now have created a separate Imgur account just for replacing FISD images, there's A LOT . It's a bit off work so when I see a thread 11 pages long like yours I say "not today, not today"

  7. Painting! I decided that I'm going to hand paint everything, although I cheated a little with the tube stripes and made a vinyl template from an old sticker. I penciled the stripes onto the back of the sticker using some decals (Trooperbay?) as a guide, cut out the template then stuck them on and painted (white, then the French Blue). I'm waiting for the paint to cure before removing the templates. I'll post a pic with the result. I expect there will be a little cleaning up to do. I then masked off the rear trap vents with painters tape and followed a similar process. Again, I expect some cleanup here once the tape is removed. Now, onto the tears, which will be all freehand. This is certainly an exercise in Zen Master patience!

  8. Hello everybody. First of all, my English is not that good, so I had the text translated in Google. My name is Nils, I'm 24 and from Berlin, Germany. I have been in the German Garrison with my ROTJ TK since 2017. After 3 years I thought that I could make a new costume. Since I liked Rouge One a lot, I decided on a RO TK. So last year for Blackfriday I bought the armor kit from 850-armor-works and the helmet from Headshotprops. The armor was there relatively quickly, only HSP took ages to ship the helmet ... I chose the 850 kit because I am a bit thicker. 850 shapes are relatively large, which suits me very well. The kit had been around for half a year. I recently started building it. The kit from 850 is a solid foundation, but not 100% accurate. So I started to reprint some parts with my 3D printer. I created the files either by Thingiverse or myself. I made the shoulder strips from flexible resin. This is my forearm coverstrip. Here the helmet from HSP. I found this top by chance in a clothing store. In my opinion, this is ideal as a basis. What do you say? I still have a lot to do and hope to get some tips here. Best wishes, Nils (TK-24316)

  10. Hello all, Reaching out as this is typically the first step in any forum format. I look forward to the discussions and research. I really look forward to what each of you can teach me. I recently bought a previously approved Anovos kit from a 501st member. It fits me pretty good and would like to know what needs to be done in order to transfer ownership within this community. I can provide all necessary information and the bill of sale if needed. Good news is the previous owner was pretty close to my build and stature so I do believe the initial fit is almost perfect. There is some minor splitting on the collar which can easily be repaired. Any feedback from this group would be much appreciated.

  11. I’ve been doing my research and thought of something. Might this forum Support any way to host a Live Chat session from time to time with some of your more experienced members? I don’t know what you all may think about such and idea. Thanks to everyone who has been so nice, supportive and friendly, BTW!

  13. Caleb. You made AJ's build thread printable? That is awesome. I was just thinking I wish I could have had a copy of it for my next build. How do I access it?

  14. I spread putty on the forearms today. They had quite a few streaks, so I opted to cover them in putty. Sanding it off is Future Dan's problem I sprayed gloss white on the shins and sniper plate. At first, it was coming out horribly! So many spots where the paint just wasn't sticking, even though I had wiped them all down with a clean cloth. Subsequent coats seemed to stick better and cover those areas. They're pretty good now and might not need touching up... I also prepped the cod and butt for understrapping. I'm not sure how comfortable a 2"-wide elastic strap will be, so I might switch this out with 1" webbing, or need to cut my elastic in half to 1". I'll find out on my next test fitting!

  18. It also looks as if they are longer (a good thing). For closer screen accuracy, you can cut off the large rear tab if you have enough overlap over the tabs on the back plate. This was done on all TKs, both Stunt and Hero.

  19. Nice work on those lenses. Will you be shortening the bolts further to avoid facial injuries? [emoji6]

  20. More progress today! I've gone with a mount system for my lenses. I want to maximise interior space as much as I can, so keeping the lens size down will help. Mounts made with ABS and ear screws. Lenses shaped, drilled and ready to install. Fitted lenses with a few washers made from ABS The final look! Theres a little gap above each eye for air flow as well.

  21. Finally trimmed the thighs. I went with 30mm ridges and will have 25mm outer strips to match my 20mm arm outer strips. The tape is a little under 25mm so you can see how it should look. I should have minimal gap in the rear. My plan is to install the inner and outer cover strips on the front so I have a better idea For fitting the back.

  22. Next up is the inner barrel. I bought some 3/4' PVC pipe to use for the barrel. I measured how long it needed to be and cut to size, and then drilled holes in it to fit. I ended up spray painting the barrel and inside as a test to see how the paint would look. I used matte black and I'm pretty happy with the result. Once I had the pipe lined up, i used a generous amount of E-6000, which held very well.

  27. Hello Wayne! Awesome introduction! You have some great experiences. Nurses rock! I’m also a nurse myself. You’ll find that there’s a handful of us healthcare professionals out here as servants of the Empire. Justin Reed is a great resource and he will definitely guide you on your way to joining the 501st. I’m a member of the Inland Empire squad and we can’t wait to see you trooping alongside with us soon. When you get approved, there’s a Facebook group called the 822nd Imperial Medical corps which is a group for 501st medical professionals. Don’t hesitate to reach out for any help. Have you joined the Imperial recruits page for the socal garrison on Facebook? Everyone is helpful especially here on FISD which focuses on the classic and current stormtrooper armor. Plenty of valuable information on the forums. Good luck and we hope to see you out trooping real soon! -Niño R. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  28. I hung the cod and butt on the straps and they're perfect! Just another excuse to put on my armor I also test fitted the armor to check my heightened biceps and my forearm length. I think they actually look good now!! With my elbow bent, it still seems a bit long to me, but relative to some screencaps it's reasonable! I think I'll sand out the inside of the wrist a little to loosen it up, since it's a bit snug with the sleeve and glove under there. I'm also thinking about adding elastic to my sleeves to loop around my thumb and hold them down; thoughts? And then...sanding! Wet sanded the putty off the shins with 800 to prep for gloss white tomorrow! And of course, some putty on the thighs... They're mostly ok, except where Jim fused together the separate sections.

  33. Many thanks. I received a B pull back plate from HSP. In terms of shape, this is wider than the 850. Overall, I find this visually more beautiful. The back plate would be completely reworked. It was difficult to insert the notch there. I have now applied the first layer of spray filler. Now it's time to grind again ... Left 850AM, right HSP

  36. Welcome to the FISD, Wayne! Great introduction, by the way! That behind the scenes bit of the Mandalorian was brilliant - it's awesome when the film makers refer to the 501st members as "real" stormtroopers. There are a lot of great sources of info on this site - be it forum posts and other troopers. So take your time to do some research and then ask lots of questions. We are here to help.

  37. Hello there, Wayne! Welcome to FISD! You’re on the right track working with Justin; he’s the man! I actually got my strapping kit from him, and he’s been super helpful with my ANH Stunt build. As Mario said, the Getting Started is a great place to begin, and you’ll have all of us here helping you along the way! And of course SoCal is a hotspot for Legion members. Again, welcome!
