Hi everyone glad to be here.. I have been doing charity work for over a decade ( Special Olympics and local library events). I also enjoy costuming, Sci-Fi, comic books, cons and pro-wrestling, figured I would fit right in.. I am starting my first adventure into a TK build of any kind. I got to meet 501st members at a couple cons in Pittsburgh and Erie and talked to them about what they did.. As an organizer for our local library's Comic con I realized this is just the kind of group to have at our small library con. After a few years of procrastination I decided it was time to join up and become the worst shot in the galaxy. I actually got my armor a few months ago and im almost finished with the helmet.. Im not sure how to start a build thread but as soon as I do I will begin one and post up.. H Happy to be here.. Dr. Quackenabush2 points

TK-61199 reporting back - for the first time with an actual TK-number that is I've recieved Level 2 clearance without any complaints and will now join the race for centurion 500. Already started working on the DO's suggestions to improve the details of my armor starting at the top with the side traps that can use a little repaint. While at it I also repainted the ears screws as their white paintjob has been damaged a little while installing the SHA. Speaking of this, the helmet interior is almost final now, I'll post some pics tomorrow. Meanwhile I also got to my next project, once again inspired by what Cableguy did before me : the 145 litre homebase storage box. This will become fully foam padded to finally give my armor a proper storing place. Next to all this I started researching some Krayt things to further keep my occupied... Meanwhile my instantPot has joined in with my starwars cosplay:2 points

One final piece, when I finish a costume, I usually make an in-universe costume bin to transport it. Well, I finished the bin and helmet case: More pics and details in this thread:2 points

I know I am not the first one to do this type of thing, but several people in other boards have asked for some kind of tutorial for the new transport cases I just made. While I don't exactly have a full tutorial, I did write something up that at least will let you get an idea of some parts to try out, and hopefully inspire some others to theme their bins. I do this for all of my costumes, and I feel like it adds something to roll up to a troop with a bin that hints at the costume you are about to suit up in. I usually add lights, because many Star Wars crates have lights, and I try and make it a bit in-universe (like no standard lettering). Because my bin was a little smaller to fit it all (and because many times we also bring just the bucket), I made a separate helmet case. Because my ANH Stunt build was my first really clean costume with no weathering (and I LOVE weathering), I was able to get some weathering in these cases to get that out of my system. Below I will show some shots of the cases, and follow it with some build notes. Note: I do not build these on commission. They are a labor of love, and part of the costume build that I love to build over a month in the early morning hours in my cold garage, but do not want to do these for money. If Instagram is your thing, I post things like this under the username "Oddviking" The helmet case: I wanted to make something protective, and just large enough to fit around the helmet with some foam inside: These decals were used after the first set of photos, because I had just gotten a vinyl cutter and could finally add some more lettering: The Armor Bin: This is a little smaller than the usual 50 gallon one, a 45 gallon bin that had a good look as a base. Some turnarounds: The helmet case screen:1 point

Man oh man was this a ride. Enjoyed every moment of this build from the beginning. There was some rough times don't get me wrong but I feel those only make you appreciate your build even more in the end. I got accepted to my local garrison and even did my first zoom meeting troop today. Once the nerves are gone its smooth sailing. My son was also present on zoom from his laptop and made it that much more special for me. Thank all you guys here at FISD for the help without you guys I would definitely not know what am doing. Now its time to start polishing my build and reaching for higher levels. Advice for any new comers would be to take your time and do not rush it. Get all your tools and materials together. And always measure twice or three times even and cut once. Always ask any questions here you will get the best top notch advice for your build. Thank you again FISD and its fellow troopers for all the help. tat2trooper out.1 point

Yea, I'm going to buy a puncher since I have to buy rivets anyways. And I will make the buttons on the smaller plate a little smaller!1 point

Yup already on that. Going to trim the clips. And I will rotate the TD so the donut shows more. To do this I will have to cut down that area too to allow for tit to rotate a little. Possibly right at the first screw holes and drill new holes. Thanks for the input. Looking at my side pics the TD wasn't slid all the way onto the belt.1 point

thank you so so much. I have been looking for way too long to find this. I really appreciate it1 point

Okay so weird issue with the belt: So I made the snaps on the ab plate: I aligned the fabric belt with the holes I drilled on the ab plate and with a pencil I poked it through the hole on the ab plate so the tip marked the canvas belt....thats how I know my marking accurate for belt alignment. Problem is or was that when I put the snaps on the belt it seemed loose! I was frustrated because I took the time to make sure the holes on the canvas belt were the same distance apart as the holes on the ab plate! I think part of the issue lies on the fact that there are several details are designs in the front of the cod area (where the front of the belt rests) that lifts the belt and makes the belt want to pivot up or down I decided to non permanently attach the plastic portion to the canvas belt to see how it will all fit together: First I installed screws to help keep the belt together before I use rivets: The added dimensions of the plastic ammo belt seemed to help make the belt "fit" better The belt will still want to "pivot" up and down but its far less than what it was. Overall the belt holds and seems to be in a decent position: Would like some input before I replace the screws on the belt with rivets. I was also considering putting a little piece of the soft side of velcro in the front were the front of the belt rests.....maybe having a little extra thickness will help ensure the belt stays in place and does not pitch or pivot.1 point

So my original shoulder bells are now trimmed down and strapped. ***I used the same method as the spare shoulder bells but these ended up coming out 3mm wider. So if they still look like they need to be trimmed I can go forward and shave off 3mm. But as of now, I think it looks nice.*** I think this fixed the linebacker look.1 point

Ok, so there was some question if my cover strip will actually perform well to make that look good. My response:1 point

This is from my build, if it helps at all. So this was fresh off the mould, nothing trimmed yet just taped up at the front where I’d cut and left 10mm either side for the CS: Then fitted it and taped it: Measured the overlap marks at the top and bottom: The top measurement is fine, nothing to line up or anything so that’s good to go at 60mm. The bottom, I can’t just cut where it’s marked or the ridge won’t be even, so first I measure the length of each side on that back ridge which was 90mm & 70mm = 160mm So, the length of the ridge (160) minus what I need to remove (55) = 105. That will be the new length of the ridge so divide it by 2 = 52.5. Once I’d measured in 52.5 from the edge on each side and drawn a straight line up to my mark at the top, this is the line I was left with: You can see how it more or less matches the plane of the front seam. Don’t forget, no one is going to see the front and back at the same time so it doesn’t have to be mathematically perfect but as long as it looks straight. From this angle you can see how the seams match and the amount of ridge either side of the back seam is even: I hope this helps and I’m not just flooding your brain! To keep some continuity, it was changed a few years ago to help "standardize" them because folks were adding all sorts of attachments (radios, lights, greeblies, antennas and such). Oil drain pans should definitely be a rectangular shape, as that is what is seen in the videogames they are based off of: The thickness of the pan is up to you. I went with the thicker one (photo 1) as used in Templar726's build (link here) because I liked the beefier look, but I don't think those are available any longer. The thinner ones are more readily available, and the 12.5 qt. size (photo 2) seems to be the most popular. Amazon is out of them, but I found one here. This is the type Tony uses in his awesome build thread here. 1 21 point

The helmet interior is looking a lot messier already, but i'm not quite done yet. The mic and speaker cables are still missing, I'll have to remove the ears to put them in. I'm leaving out the wireless reciever for the TK-chatter entirely, since the mp3-player is just about the same size anyway, and it fits perfectly next to my fan switch. The mic needs to sit uncomfortably close to my lips for it to trigger the icomm, but I got it all to work for now. Perhaps i'll get another mic some day. My blaster from imperial warfighters is now coming, it should be here in a couple of days Meanwhile the German Garrison is still having massive troubles with their e-mail servers making it impossible for them to process my application to the 501st.1 point

Reporting back with some progress after a while :-) I got myself a pile of ukswrath's electronics and spent the afternoon figuring out which cables will have to go where This is where I'll start off tomorrow:1 point

Another trip home, and some more (slow) progress on the helmet. Installed the padding and played a little with the positioning of the fans. I've settled to install the fans as shown in the picture but - as can be seen on the right - the cable isn't long enough to reach the Anker, so I'm gonna have to add some length to the cable first. I ordered an E-11 from ImperialWarfigthers on Friday, and it's set to reach me just before christmas My plans to build an E-11 myself aren't canceled, but merely delayed, due to the lack of a doopydoos kit. Unfortunately there have been no news on my garrison application so far, but it shouldn't take much longer now. Now it's time for me to browse ukswraths fancy electronics section1 point
