Hello all, My name is Danny, my TKID is TI-30180, and I'm a member of the Outer Rim Garrison who's been out of commission for about 2 years now. On top of the pandemic, I've been dealing with a number of personal, work, and mental health issues that have kept me from trooping and socializing with my garrison-mates. I would like to get back into trooping with a R1 TK and I figured this was the best place to start. I look forward to getting reacquainted with all of you folks and trooping as soon as it's safe enough to do so.3 points

Thank you all for the kind words, I must also thank our current DL Andrew @Sly11 and our founder Paul @Daetrin who has been a DL on more occasions that I can count, you guys have put up with me and I can be a pain in the neck. Just trying to give back to the forums for all those who have come before me and steered people in the right direction, FISD's mantra is "troopers helping troopers" and that's all I'm trying to do. This past year and a half has been very challenging time for me for medical reasons, I have probably been more active during this time compared to other years but I needed something to keep focus on, sorry if you guys are sick of seeing my flashing profile gif when you click "new content" This is a great community and a family and I hope to be part of it for some time to come3 points

20,000 Posts! I would like to aknowledge one of our most active Detachment and staff member ever, on his incredible 20,000 post journey here on FISD Glen Rhodes gmrhodes13, (TK 85421). Not only does he offer solid and valuable advise to the greater membership across the many thousands of forum posts and threads on a daily basis, this year he has stepped up and assisted other staff and myself with multiple tasks like the forum headers and the what sometimes seems to be the insurmountable, forum clean up, and Photobucket post revitalization project. (what a mouthful) All this he has done without hesitation, and lets also not forget the truly wonderful job he does with our monthly news letter. He is here, he is there, he is everywhere!!! Thank you Glen, you are a true asset to our detachment and command team and I thank you for your support.2 points

Corrected Helmet Features I used the decals I had that came with the AM kit, rather than go about painting by hand. Pictures of the corrected left and right tears and left and right traps are shown, using these decals with correct details. Decals: Left Tear: Right Tear: Left Trap: Right Trap: This should address the last requested changes. Thank you for your consideration! Respectfully, TK-150282 points

Hey folks, Just letting all and sundry know that I've had my forum handle changed from 'markgambino' (so formal!) to MightyAtom - a nickname from a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.2 points

So finally kicking off the build of my ATA ANH stunt kit. My plan is to build this to Centurion level specs. I'm planning to build this over the winter, so it's not a rush project. And I like to take my time and get it right the first time. So here is the kit unboxed. Everything looks great. Helmet kit. I'm going to start the with the helmet. Here are some close ups. The front is gorgeous! The back is a little bumpy towards the sides, but from what I have read, that is expected. Some more1 point

Painting retouches: In my EIB notes, they asked that I fix some of the borders on the tears and traps, as well as some minor shapes on the vocoder. These were decals that came with the kit, and the die cut them a little off-center, leaving a thicker black border in some places. I had used a template from Trooper Bay to paint the lines in (my armor came with two sets of decals, one with lines, one blank, and I used the blank ones so that I could paint in the lines). So the trick was, I was going to need to paint gray over the black borders, but because the paint gray was not the exact same shade as the printed gray, I needed to paint all of the gray over, including between the fine lines. Challenging, but I have a lot of fine painting experience, so it was doable. First I wanted to make sure the decal would not react to paint on top in any way, so I took a scrap from the decal sheet, put it on a scrap of ABS, and did a test paint a week ago. It seemed to be fine with paint on top, so I was set to start painting in. I realized that if I painted only the tears, that the traps would not quite match, so rather than doing the bare minimum, I just went ahead and fixed all of the decals, including the back traps that each have 12 lines to paint around. The borders would look better though, and they would now all be completely hand-painted, and all the same gray as the frown, ab buttons, and ear buttons (Testors 1138). Here is a pic of the color difference. On the left is an un-painted decal, which is a little bit greener of a gray, and the right is painted: Sometimes I even surprise myself. With a good brush and a steady hand, I finished them all this morning without incident:1 point

Welcome aboard Danny. There's loads of info on the forum and plenty to get acquainted with as you begin the R1 journey. Seems to be a pretty regularly used kit by Lucas film these days.1 point

Working on the helmet. I was putting decals on when disaster struck. Well, not really but... After talking with a fellow trooper I decided to go the hand painted route. Here’s how it looks so far. I’m going to add the grey tomorrow. Then add the stripes later on. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

Journey to Centurion: So I spent a week of early mornings updating the blaster, and that was the hard part of my list for Centurion. So on to the other improvements. Here is the blaster, with the new rail, and Hengstler counter in the right spot, and keyhole filled (see my E-11 build thread linked above for process shots): Now on to the thermal detonator. My end caps were a bit on the wide side. In addition, the clips were too long (easy trim), and the screws were fairly large (easy swap, and the clips would move over, covering the old larger holes): Unfortunately, they were firmly glued on, so that meant trimming them in place. So I measured in 2mm, and made a line, and then taped it off with blue tape. Then I took my No. 11 Exacto blade and started slowly scoring down. The idea is that if I cut just through the plastic, I can pop it off and clean up the E6000 underneath. So I scored... and scored... and scored. More than 30 times around, changing blades every so often, and I hit the point where it wasn't really cutting any deeper. Then I took a very thin Japanese saw, and carefully cut just on the inside of my score mark, deeper and ever deeper, until it was very close to the tube. Then a few more passes with the blade, and it popped free. A cut from the side allowed me to pull it all off, and it looks great. Belt edges: I also needed to trim down the AM belt's initial height: This was easier, I detached my boxes (because I used screws, this was easy, and I will also be able to raise them once the new height is done). I drew my line, and then scored and broke the strips off. Sanded to finish them, and they now look more accurate. Just a few more minor fixes over this week, and I should be ready to get some new photos.1 point

Yes, unfortunately, I misread the instructions for spacing the split rivets so I removed them. My last step will be to patch up the holes and redo the spacing of it looks like I have a shot at centurion. And as for the elastic straps I have them but I did not implant them during the photos. Once I have the chest snaps glues on ill see how it all fits with chest straps holding the front down and with the little elastic bands holding the straps down.1 point

Quite an accomplishment Glen. You’re an invaluable asset to the FISD. Congrats!1 point

Ideally I find using a very sharp drill on low speed while gripping on to the rear of the rivet with pliers the best. You can always use some washers and nuts and bolts now that you have the rivets out1 point

UPDATE! It looks like we are one step closer! While doing our research, we somehow we missed issuing a Centurion number to Charles Ecton (Templar726-TK 72627) for his insanely cool Death Trooper armor (link here) in 2016. We have rectified that, and he is now Centurion #478. With the recent addition of Rob T., that puts us at only 21 spaces remaining...... getting close now, so get those submissions in soon!1 point

@11b30b4 850Armorworks has upgraded their ENTIRE shop (multiple 3D printers, new paint booth) and has just begun production of a rotocast ROTK helmet, and it comes with your choice of printed hovi mics. They are also working on upgrading ROTK armor parts slowly but surely. Because of Hurricane Sally, they are shutdown, but they will be back up and running as soon as possible. Their IG has been documenting everything, and it's impressive.1 point
