  1. Wow...I have finally done it! My name is Martyn Scully (Mar2D2) from Northamptonshire, England and I can now say that I am a proud member of the 501st Legion UK Garrison. This has been a dream come true for me. Like most troopers on here, I have wanted to be a Stormtrooper since I can remember and wanted to be part of the elite group known as the 501st Legion, "Bad Guys Doing Good"!! for the last 5 years. Here is my Story: As a life long fan of Star Wars, I have always wanted to own a full set of Stormtrooper armour from the original films. They are so iconic that even non star wars fans (BooooHisssss..) can recognise what a Stormtrooper is. "Not so long ago, in a Galaxy not so far away......" It was at my nephews 5th Birthday party that three members of the 501st UKG (2x TK's & 1x Crew) accepted the invitation to make his dreams come true as a massive star wars fan himself. A day that we (his family and friends) would never forget. At the time of his 5th Birthday my nephew was receiving chemo therapy treatment for Leukaemia. My nephews name is Ryan Scully and on the day was made an Honorary Stormtrooper for his dedication to the Empire. Through his own bravery, his determination, love and support from family, friends, doctors, nurses, the kindness of charities (such as the ones the 501st support), the 501st UK Garrison and many other positive aspects within his life (the list goes on). We can now lovingly say, with open hearts "Thank you" as Ryan has beaten this awful disease, fully recovered and is Cancer free. Ryan will be 10 this year which 5 years ago we couldn't even think that far ahead. The 501st is what has inspired me to want give back and share the same hopes and joys to others fighting their own or loved ones personal nightmares. Now some tips and things I have learned during "my journey to the Dark side": 1. The best form of reference when creating your costume is the Movies themselves. It's easy to follow other build threads in the forums. We all make mistakes, so don't allow someones error to also become yours. 2. Measure Twice (5, 6, 10) times before cutting. 3. Listen to advice from others who have already made this journey. Ask any questions, no matter how small or silly you may think they are (Troopers helping Troopers) there is so much great advice, builds and ideas within these forums, so take your time, read and learn from others who came before you. 4. With family, work and other personal commitments, you may struggle to find the time you want to work on your costume. this is fine! as i was once told "don't rush, it's a marathon and not a sprint". There is probably a lot more I could say, but i have waffled on enough for now!! I really look forward to meeting you all in the future (if and when COVID-19 allows) and to serve the Empire for the greater Good. Long live the Empire, with unquestioned Loyalty! Cheers, Martyn Scully. (TK17210) (Mar2D2).

  2. Being a Star Wars Fan from the beginning on, as child there were no costumes or anything like that. Like all the other kids, I played with the figures we had these days. As I grew older, toys were sold, so my collection of figures and vehicels. Just my snowspeeder stayed. At the Begin of 2020 I finally bought my first Helmet. A Black Series Rogue One, as I was stunned by the Film. It didn´take long that I decided to become a Stormtrooper. A dream since I was a kid. So I ordered a R1 Kit from 850 Armor Works. In the meantime I registered to this forum, where I found plenty of Infos in the WIPs. I made contact to T-Jay, who provided me his completion Kit for the E11 Blaster, which I wanted to build as I waited for BBB. Time went by, I finished the Blaster and the armor arrived right on time. BBB had come Now the adventure could begin. I costumized the helmet to be screen accurate and began working on the armor. Always following the CRLs and Level 3 Requirements. I never worked with ABS before, but found it very easy. My deadline was set to the 4th of May. You know why After some setbacks with painting the bucket, this goal was reached. Yeah, and it was Corona who ruined everything. But I think, I´m not alone with that. Knowing there would´nt be official events taking place, on Fathersday here in germany, I made my own. I patroled the whole day in my driveway. People driving by were excited to see a real Stormtrooper. Many stpped and took pictures. Even the local Police asked for a foto. A so called " Cocktail Taxi" also stopped and offered me a free cocktail of my choice in exchange with a selfie. That was a fun day, which made me even more wanting to become a member of the 501st. And here I am.

  3. bump Haha, jk Dan. I'm writing to include a link to a PDF version of this thread which I just completed. I thought some old-school print type folks might appreciate it. I hope you'll excuse my format of the date in the PDF file name; I would have flipped the date and month just for you UK folks, but then it would have been inconsistent with the other PDF files I've made. I also compiled your helmet alignment (PDF link) thread a while back, and all my PDF compilations can be found on my All-In-One thread. Thanks for all the helpful insights you've provided aspiring Troopers!

  4. Glen for the win! - Thanks for the higher res! - Thanks also for the other image - I never saw this before. - Third image - me again. This was taken at a local photoshoot with my garrison by a professional photographer - Last image - me again! Good eye and yes I was a squad leader in B Company Now, put all that together and it should be obvious I'm in the tight-end position, closest to the camera. Even better - that image where you had the caption. Priceless!

  9. So basically if you guys aren’t aware Matt is trooperexpert (TE). There is a ton of history on him on these forums if you want to search. Obviously Mark knows but what he said is all true. It’s good to hear that you got a refund. That’s promising considering his history. But like Mark said I doubt it’s an RS recast. It’s probably a cast of his TE that he never actually got rid of.

  10. I don’t think you’ll get a recast from Matt. He was one of the first guys to offer cast from original stormtrooper helmets and armour to the community. Unfortunately he couldn’t say no to new customers and as with a lot of vendors they get snowed under and then the next thing you know it’s been years and you haven’t delivered. Not making excuses for the way Matt treated his customers but we all forget he was one of the pioneers of replica stormtrooper armour and helmets. That shouldn’t be forgotten. Although bad business practices didn’t do him any favours at all. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  11. [EDIT] Switching to TFA FOTK since KB Props armor is TFA and finding the TLJ parts is a little difficult. I will return to TLJ later! Hey everybody, Momo here! I'm pretty new to this community, got cadet status for the Georgia Garrison not too long ago. I have aspirations to become an FOTK someday and a few days ago I got my big start with the Big Brown Box! Ive already ordered my lexan scissors off Amazon so im waiting for them to come so I can get started on trimming these pieces but I got a lot more tools and soft goods to gather. I need to keep my eyes open for Imperial Boots to start taking orders again so I can get my boots and gloves. Everything else will come with time. This is my first stormtrooper and I'm still learning the terminology of stuff and exploring this side of costuming...but hopefully one day I can join the ranks! This is the look im going for when its all said and done. I'm still deciding on pauldron color, but red is probably what I'm going to end up with. This is the aftermath of taking everything out of the BBB. Its a lot of stuff! I'm kinda worried about stuff not fitting right but some of these pieces are enormous xD I'm only 5ft but I'm not the skinny variety so fitment will be interesting. List of stuff for my stormtrooper thus far. Most of it is not ordered yet, but its good to have an idea of where I'm going for things. Research is still ongoing! Will edit post to reflect updates on Parts List Parts List: -Hard Bits- TLJ Helmet: KB Props (Received) Armor: KB Props [Only comes in TFA] (Received) TLJ Cod: TBA TLJ Forearms: TBA TLJ Thermal Detonator: TBA TLJ Thighs: TBA Pauldron: KB Props (Received) TFA FOTK: In progress Eventually I want a voice amp and stuff but I'll worry about that after I finish the suit. Fans may be a must though. I usually just rig a CPU fan in there but I might want something a little more professional this time around. I'll probably be adding more to this list later. For now this is all, updates will be slow as I'm not trying to rush this. Dont wanna make any mistakes, I am new after all Gonna take it slow and carefully for the best result! This be exciting times!

  18. Hi all, Firstly, I’d like to say that Low and higher brow heights are perfectly acceptable and all members are welcome in the legion. I would just highlight that some appear to reflect Stunt or Hero/Promo troopers. The intention of this post is to share educational reference photos with new and aspiring troopers. Based on watching ANH, viewing the many reference photos and additions behind the scenes and historic photos, there is a clear direction regarding various brow heights in ANH. In the spirit of the CRL, this guide would help improve uniformity across the legion. For those that favour a low brow, I would highly recommend checking out the Hero* or Promo Trooper as an ideal option. *please note that not all Hero helmets had a low brow. Below is the Promo Trooper. This features a hero helmet (this is different to the Stunt helmet) and is an iconic look, featuring a low brow (brow trim essentially ‘on’ the top of the eye sockets). There is essentially zero gap between the bubble lenses and the brow trim. There were just six hero helmets made for ANH, made in gloss ABS, intended for close up shots; Luke has a very similar look; Han, on the other hand, had a clear gap (seen here left of shot) 50 Stunt helmets were made for ANH. These were made from green HDPE plastic, then primed and painted. The majority of TKs seen in action and group shots in ANH were Stunt helmets and had a visibly different appearance, including a longer painted ‘frown’ with (for the most part) 4 ‘teeth’ either side, 3 screws per ear rather than 2, flat lenses rather than bubble and (for the majority seen on screen) had a consistent gap between the top of the eyes and the brow. First up is a photo taken outside Shepperton Design Studios and shows approximately half of the 50 Stunt helmets primed and ready to send to the studio. The brow height is consistent across these helmets, each having a clear gap between the eyes and the brow. Note below that perhaps 2 or 3 of 26 helmets have a slightly lower brow. On to screen used, there are a few lower brow stunts featured through ANH, however they are certainly outnumbered by the conventional look. Note the same scenario from ESB (re-using ANH Stunt helmets for the most part); Even quite a few Hero helmets, including Han’s, had the usual gap. I hope that these reference photos help to show the difference with various helmets. This post, and the information included, comes from a passion for the wonderful character that is the Stormtrooper and is not intended as a negative view on those that choose the low brow. Both have their place in our character lineup. I would simply suggest considering the hero or Promo Trooper as an option for those that prefer the low brow. Best wishes Dan NB - credit to StarWarsHelmets.com for a lot of this information. I’ve learned a lot from there over the last couple of years.

  27. Thanks for the input Steve! Fortunately, Dave provides rubber gloves as well as @justjoseph63's flexible hand guards with his kits, so we're good there. I'm steady chugging along with the builds and could have one completed for basic and EIB submission within a few weeks (I’m likely overly optimistic here). As it stands, I think what will keep me out of making the 1k is my E-11, which I may not receive until the end of August or first week of September, unless he happens to get it out to me sooner. I like to set lofty goals for myself, but I also have to balance that with reasonable expectations. We're looking forward to joining you in the Florida Garrison soon!

  31. I wanted to apply for Expert Infantry. In order to obtain that status I needed to make a blaster! Here is my E-11 Build thread and a pic of the finished product. Once that task was complete it was time to apply for EIB! At this point a couple notes I had already heard and never done anything about needed to be addressed. The first was my Hovi tips. I needed to paint the rim white and replace the screen. My source was a from a strainer I saw at the hardware store. You can see the old more narrow Anovos screen on the handle. I used a dremmel sanding bit as a form to shape the screen and here's what the tips looked like after they were all painted up. Next was the ole tooth pic and goof off routine to remove a touch of the frown. Having just received my EIB, (982) I am super excited! I really appreciate how the team also provides you suggestions on what you'll need to apply for Centurion.

  33. Nice build so far! Check out the Blaster Reference for some more mod ideas if you have time. https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/32111-fisd-e-11-blaster-reference/ Your bolt plate looks great. Not an easy mod to do and not easy to get the bolt plate to move like the real sterling without removing lots of resin as you mentioned. I know you said you already epoxied it into place but if you wanted to try and make it fully moveable check out the ejection port section in the blaster reference: https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/32111-fisd-e-11-blaster-reference/?do=findComment&comment=414376 looking forward to seeing more updates!

  42. It looks like there are already holes at the ends in which you could slide in a ring. Perhaps you could try some form of heavy gauge copper wire (painted)? Shape it into a “C” (or rather a “D” with an opening on one side) then slide the ends into the holes on the butt-plate? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
