Thank you for the link to the CRL discussion! I was aware that in TLJ there were 2 versions of the forearms visible: the old style and the one you referred to. I see now that for level 3 clearance, the costume has to have the new style forearm. I will add that as well, so people can choose which one they would like to go with.3 points

My cheap solution paint spraying larger props & models such as my First Order Storm Trooper armour. Ideal for those with no indoor space or facilities to extract sticky dangerous fumes while protecting the wet paint from flies using it as a landing pad. You may also notice Richard's biceps are a little lower too. It's just a case of spreading the gaps evenly in all arm openings for the longer arms, biceps, elbows and wrists. Your gloves may be a little big if they are falling down on their own, I wear the glove inners and never have that issue. FYI have a few extra pairs of the inner gloves as they tend to get pretty wet and sweaty at long events, nice to put on a fresh pair between breaks.2 points

Re your arm gaps... I'm in a similar boat as you re having long arms (maybe it's a vegan thing [emoji1]). Some screen grabs of armour show the gap between the bicep and the forearm as very small or sometimes almost nonexistent, which is fine if that suits your arm length. (Yours look very close to this) But, if your arms are longer then it's going to look better to try and keep the gap from bicep-to-forearm and from forearm-to-handguard the same as much as possible. (This is me, just as an example. Slightly bigger gap at the elbow, to reduce the gap at the wrist) That's why Glenn said about lowering your forearms, even though it means having a larger gap at the elbow. I also wear my biceps lower than most to help reduce the elbow gap (although I went a little too far and need to raise them back up a smidge)2 points

I added some putty to mine for some seams, especially front barrel shroud to receiver, that one definitely needs patching. I used paint+primer , then dulled it with another layer of flat top coat to deaden the texture.2 points

I'm going for A New Hope style . Hi I’m Paul, I bought a Tk stunt armour kit from RS Prop Masters and I have followed their youtube videos. I’m going for A New Hope Style stormtrooper. I’m vegan so I would like to avoid using leather. To make the blaster holster I'm exploring vinyl and fake suede. the boots I have are vinyl. There is a flaw in the boots, a right angled seam on the top of each boot makes them look different from the films. A neck seal is on its way. I'm having a little problem with the button snaps that connect the belt to the front of the suit. I know I’m slightly tall for a stormtrooper at 6’2. I am also in want of an ANH e-11 blaster. But I have Rubies Costume Star Wars Rebels, Stormtrooper Blaster as a stand in. click link for my armour1 point

Sanded the whole thing with 320 then 400 grit again just to get it more smooth, and added spot putty to the seam. Then sanded the spot putty Sanded the front sight and other thingy that goes on the back idk what its called To sand in between the dip in the sights and under it I used a pen wrapped in sandpaper and a small brush also wrapped in sandpaper. Then added both to the main body.1 point

NOTES ON BICEPS: In the original films, many of the biceps had an indentation, or "thumbprint" (normally worn only on the left) on the inside. As the biceps are interchangeable, this is not a requirement for any level. Normally the thumbprint is worn on the left, some makes of armor have thumb prints on both sides. As you can see below the two biceps are different, with this make only one thumb print If you remove more of the return edge at the bottom it will help the shoulders to come in more1 point

Welcome Tony, good luck with your build. Take a look to the Build threads and suggested links. I'm working on a TFA Trooper too. looking forward for your advances. remember. "Measure twice, cut and glue just once. "1 point

Yes, it is hard to make out. In some of the frames in the movie it looks like the ridges are more pronounced and in some they look very smooth. I added a side by side comparison of the two Codpieces I made. Left is TFA, right is TLJ...1 point

Hi Dwight! Thanks so much for your patience, and awesome job on this armor! After looking things over we have one small item we need you to jump on before we can finish up your review, sir. As per the CRL for Basic approval: Frown is painted gray and does not leave the teeth area. As seen below, the paint on some of the teeth will need to be dialed back a bit to where it doesn't reach into the "gum" area. I call it the "Anovos overspray", and everyone (myself included) who has one of their buckets had the same exact issue. It should take you all of 10 minutes with some Q-tips, a toothpick and some (non acetone) paint remover, and I'm sure Justin will be happy to help if you need it! Reference images As soon as you get this done please post a few pics so that we can "move along", get that badge under your name and add another EI to the SCG!1 point

They're one armourer down at the moment due to long term illness, so I guess they are a bit more stretched at the mo. I've been having the same issue with it taking a while to get replies, but they've got back in touch eventually. If you're concerned then maybe send them a private message in case your post has been missed.1 point

Welcome Bobby! You'll be well served with RS! As far as helmet stuff, honestly after however many years... I ended up taking most of the stuff I put in my bucket, out. Except the extra padding to fit my head snug. The only one that's sometimes worth it is the fans, but even then only on the hottest days. I'd say build it, see how you like it, and go from there. You can always add extras!1 point

Ben, You can still glue your elastic on the back of the drop boxes without cutting a relief into them; aesthetically, it doesn't make a huge difference. Honestly, I wasn't going to do this until I I started playing with my ICAT belt boxes which are attached similarly. The cool thing about having that hollow back is you can really glob some glue back there and it won't be seen. Needless to say, I had a ICAT drop box "wardrobe malfunction" a few weeks ago during a troop and learned my lesson. Lol.1 point

Flat Black: Barrel shaft (step 2) Entire assembly (steps 1-6) Trigger (step 7) Trigger guard (step 7) Selector switch (step 7) Folding stock rod (step 8) Folding stock catch (step 8) Folding stock retainer (step 8 - top only) Folding stock frame (step 9) Folding stock pivot pins (step 10 - heads only) End cap assembly (step 11 - it may be easier to paint the d-ring before assembling) Charging handle (step 12) Grip pin (step 13) Magazine assembly (step 14) Hengstler assembly (step 15) Scope rail (step 18) Power cylinders (step 20) Gloss Black: Grip (step 13) Silver/Steel: Fire control group housing (step 7) Bolt (step 12) Spring (step 12) Gold/Brass (if you are weathering the scope, otherwise Flat Black): Scope main body (HLW1, step 17) Scope lens caps (HLW2 & HLW3, step 17) I accidentally discovered that clear coat is a good sandable filler. Maybe because it's thin and maybe it kind of self-levels. Not really sure why it works, but I got a really smooth finish. This is really for something that has already been made reasonably smooth but maybe still has some minor imperfections. Let it fully dry and hit it with some fine sandpaper.1 point

Welcome to the forum! I would also highly recommend reading through one of the excellent build threads out there. Obviously there will be variations due to different manufacturers, but i've been referring to Ukswrath's build thread (as mentioned above) for months, and i'm actually building a Phasma! Many of the photos and lessons learned will aid in your construction. If you're more of a visual learner, there are some excellent YouTube videos that go over how to get started. Good luck!1 point

Ben, I just posted the new box to my drive and updated the 3d depository thread. Here's a look at the new medium box: The beveled drop box is still there, but I may make one more change to it tomorrow, the back needs to be hollowed out. Please reach out if you have any questions1 point
-
Ben, Everything's coming together nice. Great job! Also, I think you made the right decision to 3d print those parts; the details on those greeblies are really going to pop. I can't really tell from your pic if those are the belt boxes I designed, but I don't see the drop boxes in there. You probably have them, but I wanted to let you know a few things about the belt boxes anyways. If they are the ones I made, I'm pretty confident the beveled drops I included with the files are accurate. Check out this pic @11b30b4 posted a while back: The other thing I've been noticing since I originally designed my belt boxes is that the trapezoid piece that sits on top of the medium boxes is wrong. The shape I made emulates what all of the makers have put in their kits, but I kind of disregarded the reference photos. Why I did that is beyond me. Honestly, I think it was because I was trying to clean up the box I had rather than emulate the screen used prop. This is the same medium size belt box that was used in a few other Anthology costumes, amongst which are the Shoretrooper (Rogue One) AT-ACT Driver (RO), Mudtrooper (Solo), and ICAT Driver (The Mandalorian). Yes, many of these are shared costumes (Shore and AT-ACT/ Muddy and ICAT), but that's the point; there's many shared costumes in the SW universe and this belt box has landed on several. So, I know you just printed these, but I'm adjusting my file again. Don't get me wrong, the ones you have look great regardless of where they came from and they'll pass your GML review, but I know you've asked questions previously (here and on FB) about the details. This is just another one and I thought I'd reach out to help. Also, since you haven't posted any pictures of your belt yet, one thing you need to note about the picture on the left, is that it's actually a pre-production shot. This is kind of funny because the Stormtroopers walking through the water became one of the most iconic Rogue One images. If you look at the belt, you'll notice that it's got a little "lip" hanging down below the front boxes and that the boxes overhang the bottom of the belt; these features didn't actually make it into the movie. I looked at the 850 kit and they appear to have supplied you with two long strips of ABS for the belt, but I'll defer to you on that one. If this is the case, just don't forget to put the tabs on the top and leave it flat on the bottom, but make sure you keep a 1/8"-1/4" gap above and below the boxes (except for the aforementioned medium sized box which will be flush with the top of the belt). Again, you kit is looking pretty good. I'm excited to see you round the corner and get this finished.1 point

NEW In Memoriam Detachment Leader Deployment Office Merchandise Hall of Fame Just For Laughs Around the Detachment INFORMATION & AWARD PROGRAMS Common FISD Acronyms and TK Glossary Pre Approval Forum 3D Section Field Exercise Award Imperial Attaché Program Fire Teams EIB & Centurion: What do these terms mean? Advanced Tactics Awards Public Relations Staff List 2020 Follow FISD André Düvel TX-7683 passed away earlier this year, after a long battle with illness. André participated enthusiastically in German Garrison events for many years in his Shadow Trooper, Royal Guard, and Staff Officer. He was a helpful, open person, who welcomed everyone and reached out unreservedly to all. He was always available with advice and support. His Garrison members have many fond memories of troops and social gatherings with him. He will be remembered as a passionate Trooper, an avid Star Wars collector, and cosplayer. The loss of André has left a deep void in the ranks of the German Garrison, and he will be greatly missed. Our condolences go out to his family, friends. "Buckets Off" On the morning of 21st August, Chris "Hot Rod" Scott ST-10772 joined the big Death Star in the sky surrounded by family and friends, with the Star Wars movies playing so he could hear them. Hot Rod was a valued member of Korriban Squad in Iowa. He was part of many visits to the University of Iowa Children's Hospital, appeared on stage with Weird Al in 2019, and many more. Our condolences go out to his family, friends. "Buckets Off" On the morning of August 23, 2021, we lost Marea Anselmo Gardella (ID-9541). Her passing was unexpected, and she is dearly mourned by the Everglades Squad and the Florida Garrison. Marea joined the 501st Legion in May 2008, shortly after her husband, Ryan Gardella. Her nephew, Matthew Anselmo, is also a member who joined in 2010. While she didn’t troop as much as her husband and nephew, when she did, you knew she was there by her infectious smile and welcoming personality. Marea was constantly thinking about others before herself and it showed at every event she attended. There is so much more that could be said about what a kind, compassionate, and caring person Marea was. Alongside the rest of her family, she exemplified the core communitarian and familial values that characterize Everglades Squad; her memory will live on through her family-- both genetic and of the Legion. Our condolences go out to her family, friends. "Buckets Off" Suddenly, it's September, and although many around the galaxy are in various stages of lock down and pandemic related restrictions, it is good to hear stories emerging of more and more troops occurring. Slowly but surely we are getting back to something that resembles a little bit of normal. I hope this trend continues to improve and allow us once again to be the bad guys doing good out there in our communities. This month I would simply like to discuss a few updates vs our detachment plan to keep everyone in the loop. Firstly, the 15th anniversary coins have finally shipped from the supplier and are on their way to the US. Hopefully they arrive soon after this news letter goes live and James can start the huge task or sorting and shipping out to everyone. The newest version of EI coins has also shipped out, so all those who have been patiently waiting to get their one-off, numbered and exclusive Expert infantry coin will not have much longer to wait. Announcements for both these coins will be made in their relevant areas on the forums once they are received and the shipping commences. A big shout out to all the troopers that have sent in photos for the anniversary special project. Wow, wow, wow, there are some truly beautiful images from around the world, and with over 300 submitted, it's going to be a challenge for the staff to sort through and categorize these snap shots in time. We can't wait to give you the bigger picture on the project, and when that time comes we also hope everyone will be as excited as we are. Many of our set plans for this term have been completed. The clean up still continues and will do for a while yet, but once it is complete you can expect to see a few more minor changes happening in a section or two of the forums. Updates on that will come closer to the launch time. Merch remains a topic of discussion, in our planning, but recently I have received a few messages from members asking when the next Detachment shirt run will be. The easiest way to give you an answer on this is to look at the bigger picture when it comes to shirt runs. As a rule, we do this type of merch about every 2 years. The last run was still ongoing into April 2020 with a few members waiting on reprint shirts due to errors etc. That would put the next run in the vicinity of April next year, but fear not, you won't have to wait until then. FISD shirt runs are HUGE!!, up to and over 800 pieces, so finding a member that is willing to put the time and effort into helming a run of this nature is not an easy task. Ultimately a shirt run will pivot on someone stepping up to the plate to facilitate one. Another major point to consider is the fact Celebration is an apparent go again for 2022. It was scheduled for August but has since been brought forward to May 26th-29th 2022. We would like to align the next shirt run with the advent of Celebration Anaheim, as we have for Celebration events in the past, therefore the best timing would be early in 2022, and most possibly kicking that off in January. There are decisions to be made when it comes to the design as well. Do we keep the current version, do we add something for the 15th anniversary year, or do we have a totally new design. This will come under staff discussion in the near future and once we are finished discussing the next merch item we are bringing you, and the current coins have been distributed. More updates to come on that, but if you are interested in helming a merch run for the detachment it comes with a couple of perks in itself. 1. You find out before the rest of membership, what that item is. 2. You get yours first. 3. You get the merch item for free as we always gift one to the person who makes the run a reality for everyone. So you see there are many considerations that go into planning such a task as a shirt run because detail is more important on these runs than most others. If any of our members are interested in stepping up earning some Kudos and detachment praise, please know my door is always open to discuss the in's and out of what needs to be done in helming a merch run for FISD. More merch to come before then so watch this space. On a separate note from the Hex Nut and Bolt is the final Mounting Method the prop department resorted to for the Counter and Power Cylinders. After initially being Glued on and falling off during production the Counters and Power Cylinders were eventually mounted to the blasters with a wire simply wrapped around them. As you can see after initially being glued on and falling off while filming(especially the trash compactor scene) the Counters were finally mounted to the blaster with a wire wrapped around the base of the scope feet. The ‘Power Cylinders’ eventually utilized the same type of mounting method the prop department resorted to for the counters; A wire was wrapped over the ‘Power Cylinders’ and around the mag well of the Sterling Sub-Machine Gun. Here are several more photos of the Counters mounted with a wire wrapped around the base of the scope feet. some of these images almost look like it could possibly be a thin zip tie too. There was definitely some kind of Wires and Electrical Tape connected to the socket terminals on this Hengstler Counter, old news I know but 4K resolution gives us some new insight. This image also shows the Hex Nut just over Leia’s shoulder.1 point
