It's been a while since my last update... Yesterday I spend the day with Tino (T-Jay) and he helped me make some last adjustments, went over the different armor parts with me and took my basic approval pictures. A huge thank you, I had an amazing day and I absolutely love what we managed to do with the armor. Because I forgot to take a lot of pictures of the things that we did (I was probably too excited by all the cool Star Wars props that he's got around, haha), I've only got a picture of Tino helping with the adjustment of the metal clips of the TD, so that they can lay flush against the tube: Other things that got adjusted were (for example) the frown paint or the curvature of the butt plate. All in all, an amazing day with excellent photos that I already submitted to the GMO this morning. Now all that's left is to wait for their response and see where we go from there.3 points

@Chemi I tried the best to align these with some more glue directly on the ammo boxes and the strap, how does this look?3 points

Finished the TD today with help from a buddy with a vinyl cutter. Actually ended up using vinyl on the end cap to get a clean edge. Can’t see the join unless you get about an inch away Back detail Bolt done Nipples and shoulder tabs painting2 points

Hi, those difficult sections I have used a Dremel tool . or a scissor like bellow and after trimming used sand paper to refine.2 points

Yes, it was fun yesterday and time flew. I was surprised to realize we had met for about 10 hours in total. I keep fingers crossed for the basic approval application and hope we took care of the issues for the higher levels, too...2 points

Hi everyone , My name is Colin and I’m 58 yrs old from Northamptonshire in the UK. I have just booked my first crew induction date after being approved for my TK ANH costume. My story started a long long time ago when the very first movie was released and was able to go and see it in the cinema in my youth. My interest in Starwars has been ongoing since then but really stepped up when about 2 years ago I became interested in making costume parts mainly in the Steampunk world. I then wanted to make a Stormtrooper suit for a friend which I really enjoyed doing. I then decided to make one for myself and the rest is history. I’ve enjoyed every minute of the build and found it incredibly therapeutic during a difficult period . Now the fun begins.1 point

Hi All- Charles here from StL, MO. I just submitted my armor (RS Propmasters ANH Stunt) to my GMLs for review. Till I get word back I thought I'd stop in and say hello. This has been a dream of mine for the last almost 20 years or so, since I first stumbled across the 501st and realized I could one day be an actual stormtrooper. Back in those days there wasn't much online to reference how to build. Plus to be honest I didn't have much money back in my 20s lol. Now in my mid 40's and my kids are grown I'm finally ready to jump in to your awesome world. I purchased a full commission set for RS and my profile photo is it. I currently have it on a mannequin in my home office and can not stop staring at it. I truly haven't smiled this much or been this excited since I was six years old and got a Kenner Death Star playset from Santa Claus! I'm looking forward to getting to know you all and learning how to put a second kit together - this time from scratch. Just glad to be here finally Charles1 point

When trimming/sanding try to do this over a sheet or tarp then you can save the shavings/filings which you will be able to use for ABS paste1 point

Haven’t done much over the last many weeks other than read build logs… If I screw up, I have zero scraps to even try to fix things with. So I don’t do anything… Just waiting for expert input. I did start trimming the return edges on the back plate shoulder tabs yesterday, so I can hot water bend them into a more continuous curve with the back… Started by thinning out the tab bend area with a taper toward to end. But I think I will remove more all the way around. I don’t know how people cut inside corners like this with even small bent lexan scissors. (I need to make scraps I can later use them to make ABS goo the proper color, so just making dust isn’t an option...) I didn’t trim anything in the neck area yet. Oh, and I did play with hot water bending the knee ammo boxs to make it more cleanly curved, but it seemed to maybe start to shrink or something after sitting in the water for a bit. (it wasn't a rolling boil, but it was bubbling before I dropped it in, then turned the stove off) used a pan as a form. it kind of worked...1 point

Perhaps the easiest part of the build. It was a great part to experiment how I was going to paint the whole armour... CLICK HERE FOR THE FULL VIDEO: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CzEW1lIb8Fg1 point

The maker only seems to make the black trim in the right size, the gray trim is 12 mm and then they don't even appear to make the white trim in the correct style. Which is bizarre... Oh well, I'll just have to keep looking. I'm waiting to hear back from Dave about getting the bigger AM parts that I require. Aside that, the biceps and wrists are coming along nicely.1 point

Hmm, that thread said to get as close to 10 mm as possible, the stuff I linked is 12 mm. I'll look around a bit more for a US supplier. I looked at that boat website and it appears they don't carry the correct u trim anymore. Figures.1 point

You would have to take care but you could heat in a hot water bath and clamp with too pieces of wood together, this should lower those high spots. I use a heat gun BUT it's something you need A LOT of practice with, plastic can go from warm to molten mess in a blink of an eye, a hot water bath is safer. For the butt plate perhaps you could use some V tabs to clamp the pieces a little tighter together, also stops flaring Heat a strip of ABS plastic, mold over the edges, glue the bottom tab and leave the other side free.1 point

OK. Here is my first pic with the Marco armor. I will post more pics and some thoughts tonight. there is plenty of work to do to bring this up to basic 501st standards no matter which version to shoot for. This thing is kind of a hybrid. But, I think it's got a future. I do believe it's a far cry from the pic on the starwarshelmets.com site. This is unmodified out of the box. Well, I have made a few mods for comfort and wearability.1 point
