  2. Howdy troopers! I just wanted to share a fix I used for my armor to keep my butt plate from slipping and overlapping the kidney plate. Basically, I went to a hardware store and found these small brackets that ended up being a perfect fit. I glued one on each side of the butt plate close to the elastic; since that's where the tension is coming from that causes them to overlap. The lip of the bracket that sticks out will hit the return edge of the kidney plate and prevents the butt plate from moving rearward any further. During my troop after installing the brackets I had no problems with it slipping free and overlapping. Hopefully this can help fellow troopers struggling with the same issue. Happy trooping!

  3. Hi! My name is Laura and working on an ANH Hero TK. I’ve been a huge fan of Star Wars since I was a little girl and was lucky enough to be able to work for Disney when they’ve purchased Lucasfilm a few years ago. While working on the campaigns I've met the lovely people from the Dutch Garrison and before I knew it I was dreaming of creating my own costume. Back in January I was finally able to purchase my kit from TM. I was so happy when my BBB arrived! Thank you so much Paul for this awesome kit! I'm almost afraid to touch it, let alone putting scissors into it. Where to begin and what to do?? I'm 1.75- so probably need to do some trimming, also to make it nicely fit on a female body - The total TM Hero kit including holster Now, a few months in, a few armor parties with members of the DG later, almost losing my fingertips with cutting and a seriously inflamed finger, most of the armor parts are clean of plastic waste. I'm pretty sure with the fitting lots of re-cutting must be done, so let's wait for that. Bucket: Haven’t touched the bucket yet, first want to make sure everything is going into the right direction and I know my utensils the best way possible – don’t want to screw up that handsome face. Currently doing lots of research what's the best way to start - spending hours and hours on this board, so happy with all the advice. Think I feel confident to start this week by taking out the eyes and teeth. Whoop whoop! 2 pairs of ears: Neckseal: Will be created by a friend who did this for more builds. Shoulder Bells: Currently working on the sizing. For now I've left 6mm return edge on all sides - will make them smaller if needed. Biceps: Currently working on the sizing - my biceps arent that big, so have removed 0.5cm on all sides. Not happy yet, but before cutting too much plastic/, I first want to see them together with the rest of the armor. For now I've left 6mm return edge on all sides - will make them smaller if needed. Forearms: Currently working on the sizing - I've removed 1cm in length and width. They still might be a bit too long, but same thing as for the biceps, lets first see everything on before gluing. For now I've left 6mm return edge on the elbowside - will make them smaller if needed - and none at the wrists. Coverstrips: For the forearms and biceps I'm going for the 15mm and the legs 20mm. Hand plates: In the kit was the plastic version - need to swap those to the latex ones. Gloves: The rubber ones (Trooperbay) and the Nomex flight gloves (Ebay) Chest and shoulder straps: All waste plastic has been removed, haven't touched the straps yet. Need some help first with the fitting. Back: All waste plastic has been removed. Need some help first with the fitting. Undersuit: My undersuit is from stormtrooper undersuit, went for the size that was a little bit bigger than my own measurement, but closer than sizing down. Ab: All waste plastic has been removed. Need some help first with the fitting. Kidney: All waste plastic has been removed, except for the corners. Need some help first with the fitting. Hope the kidney will show a minimal gap while lining up with the ab. Might need to go to the gym more often to make sure it fits. Haha. Butt: All waste plastic has been removed, except for the corners. Think it will fit perfect, so will leave it for now. Belt: Need to start with the assembly. Thermal Detonator: Need to start with the assembly. Thighs: All waste plastic has been removed - time for fitting! Lower leg armor: All waste plastic has been removed - time for fitting! Sniper plate: Haven't touched this one yet. Will come to it when assembling the legs Boots: From Imperial Boots: ordered them 1 size bigger and they fit perfectly. although its quite a challenge to get my feet in there. Holster: Ordered this one from TM together with the kit. And lots of extra stuff i will need in the nearby future: (of course not everything is in the picture - but we'll get there once building the armor. Fortunate to have 2 little ones watching me with every step of the journey: they just love the waste plastic...and no they are not allowed to play with it. Next days, weeks will be though, but I'm sooo excited! Keep you posted on the progress! Happy to hear feedback! X Laura

  7. Hi All! I’ve been getting a lot of offline requests to share how I got TrooperTalk to work really well lately, so I figured it makes sense to create a topic with all my info in one place. I just want to say, I absolutely love TrooperTalk. It took quite a bit to get it to the place where it’s useable for me, but it was well worth it! Now, it’s just not useable, I personally think it’s amazing. Here are the details. FYI, I got an iPhone 5 just for using this (a white one no less). When I troop and am using the background chatter, I have a USB battery plugged into it to extend the use for the entire troop. My settings: I’m using the mic that came with my Aker 1505 (it's better than the more expensive after-market one I bought). I’m sure there’s better out there, but it works really well. Voice volume (in app setting): -20 I have "voice volume threshold" at 0.05. I found that higher than that, as soon as my mic wasn't perfectly positioned my voice wasn't always coming through. I went with a slightly higher static burst volume (-25), especially for louder environments. Lowpass: 1540 Highpass: 2070 Radio Distortion: OFF Compression: 0 Don't play with voice pitch either. Just creates unnecessary distortion and latency (lag): 1.00 Echo Delay: 0 Voice Static: Unchecked So, with these basic settings I think it still sounds really really cool, and more importantly, it's way more usable to me. Easier to understand me, etc. etc. Very importantly, there is no feedback and not even any tinny feedback tones in the voice, when used with proper dampening and mic position. A really nice by-product of having these settings off is that your phone battery will last way longer, and the voice lag is very close to gone. On dampening: In early days, once my helmet was on, it loved to feed back. When I had my mic plugged straight into the Aker, with no helmet on, this wasn't an issue, as those high distortion-y sounding frequencies weren't being pinged so harshly. The sound of the app, mixed with the smooth parabolic surfaces of the helmet's interior are a recipe for feedback disaster. I was able to completely solve the feedback only with a 3-pronged approach of app settings, sound dampening inside the helmet and mic position. The dampening setup: Instead of hanging the Aker amp around my neck, I velcro'd it to the chest, at the speaker side. So, the velcro is directly over the speaker. I put a bit of foam inside the chest plate, just below the neckline, blocking sound from coming up through the neck and into the helmet. I bought 1/4" x 3/4" x 10' insulating foam tape, and I covered all the surfaces of the inside of my helmet, from about the temples down. Even the foam surface will be uneven with lines going different ways for extra dampening. Remember to cover ALL of the surface in the front of the helmet around the vocoder…even the rounded ones, cavities etc. The only place I didn’t dampen, was the top, rounded crown of the helmet. I found it wasn’t necessary, and I didn’t want any insulation up there to hinder the fans keeping my helmet cool. One more tiny but very important bit of feedback…even with total helmet dampening, when I have it loud, there will be a little tiny bit of tinny feedback in the voice when my mic is put directly in front of my mouth. However, when I have the mic a little bit off to the side of my mouth there's absolutely none. Solid as a rock. With voice static and/or radio distortion on, there's still more tinny feedback tone than I'm comfortable with. However, I find that it still has pretty close to the same quality of distortion through the app and the tone of the voice that I'm looking for, without them. I don't hear a lot of "stormtrooper quality" voice gained by either of those two features to even think about justifying the noise that comes with them. I'm very happy with the sound of the voice! Trooped with this, outdoor, in a very loud setting with kids, with my Aker cranked yesterday. No issues. Everyone understood me. Used 10% iPhone battery in 1.5 hours. Thanks again to Andrew for such an amazing app, and for those who’ve also helped by testing the settings and got back to me with their feedback!

  11. Great response! I feel the same. Was just wondering if something had changed on that front, because it's been very silent, as I'd fully expect it to be, based exactly on the scenario that you gave. Also, there's not too too much in the "various types of armour" topic about SDS. Not enough to educate on it's background or to give a would-be buyer the backstory they may want. Anyway, that's all been hashed out in the past, and I don't really want to engage it. Thanks Daniel!

  17. You have done some great work here and your commitment is admirable. You are certainly on track. Do your biceps feel like they fit well? I ask because they look a little big on you. Its not something that would visually effect your approval, but certainly would effect movement and fit. You look great and should be proud.

  19. I can imagine the stress of buying that eBay armour and realizing that it's not what you expected. However, fast forward a bit, and here you are on the precipice of Centurion! That's awesome! Your'e almost there! For my drop box position, I used velcro on the back of the elastic loop to keep it where I want it (e6000'd the velcro to the elastic and to my canvas belt). For suggestions ... I also like hiking up those thighs a tad. Great job man!

  20. Devolver, thank you. As best as I can figure based on posts here in FISD and on MEPD, there 5 completed RO kits. All were TKs but at least one (Yoshix) is now a TD. Also there are a number of people who have built the RO sandtrooper pack and/ or Jedah crystal patrol pack but do not have RO armor. There appears to be 8 works in process including my build. All the builds are using Jimmiroquai armor except one (Sascha9481G) who is modifying an OT armor set. About ½ of the people working on RO kits are modifying the black series helmet and the others went with a Jimmiroquai helmet. 25. Usually we see people drill all the holes in the DoopyDoo's kit. Crazy to see you filling them - but totally accurate for this project. Looking good so far... Did you notice the position of the "LOCK-FREE screw" in the grip? Seems like they made a new mold, as earlier kits had a different position. One thing less for you to correct.

  26. Looking great! Really nice fit. [emoji1303] Those suggestion you made (thighs, belt, shin twist etc) are easy fixes so it looks like your well on the way to clearance. :-) Have you got the shin fix remedies lined up? (Velcro front and/or poppers at back are god options) :-)

  28. Thank you sir! The belt fix actually wasn't too bad... I ended up prying off the existing snaps on the canvas and added new ones just a bit lower so that the belt sits a bit higher when snapped on. Hopefully it looks a bit better now (my undersuit is in the washer after a troop earlier this evening, hence the 'casual' clothed picture if a new fully-costumed picture is needed, just let me know). Also updated the initial post with the requested info. Copied the armor bit from my EIB app... sorry to make you re-read the lengthy embarrassing explanation! Thanks again! Jon

  29. First test fitting of all the completed parts together Very excited to be this close to completion, but I still have some adjustments to make before I can submit the pre-approval pics (which I’ll definitely be taking in better lighting!) My belt needs to come up a touch, and one of the shoulder bells needs to come in a bit, and I need to add some foam and/or Velcro to the sniper knee calf to get it to stay straight. Think my thigh garters need to be raised a little too.

  33. Congrats trooper! Just a few quick fixes and you'll get the Centurion badge in no time. I actually had the same problem with my butt plate wanting to overlap the kidney plate. Having tight elastic made it worse actually. So I went to a local hardware store and bought two brackets that I glued to the inside of the butt plate to keep it from being able to move and overlap.

  35. After two weeks of travel for business and pleasure, I'm back home and hoping to get some work done on my TK. Unfortunately, my wife is in China this week on business. So, in addition to my full-time job, I'm solo parenting two teens, a toddler, and two dogs! If you haven't guessed, June is a bit crazy for us this year. Regardless, I had a chance to do a little work this evening. My goal is to finish painting the helmet this week. Tonight I added black lining around the traps and tears and touched up the vocoder I messed up. Let me know what you think. Is my black lining too thin? Does the vocoder look centurion approvable?

  37. Updates… So the sand continues… I primed all the sanded parts and hung them to dry. Next they will get filled and sanded again. Then they will be masked (if needed) for final primer and painting. Next, I sanded the final parts that needed sanding and washed them off. They will need primer, filler and more sanding. And that is it for the update. I told you guys this was the boring part. Thanks for the interest.

  40. Hello everybody, more updates ... I gathered up the courage to carve into the receiver tube today. I carved out only enough to make the grip and magazine housing sit flush on the tube. This way, there's more surface area for glue. In dremeling out the resin I would hit the inner black hard plastic. I felt it to be pretty malleable so not too bad to take away. It was really encouraging to see the individual parts fitted together - resembling a blaster!!! Still keeping to safety on the project: respirator, protective glasses, vacuum, and ear plugs. Wanna stay healthy by the end of it. Now, I decided to undo some mods for my magazine housing - now have it hallowed through! Though I originally decided to stop short of hollowing and install magnets to keep the magazine in place, decided to install my Lipo battery in the housing instead so simply removing the magazine would reveal the battery to access charging. It took some undoing to get the magnets out but finally did it. For the magazine, still managed for keeping the magazine roller spring but cut the spring short and installed a platform inside the magazine to hold the base. Pretty happy to retain this mod. Oh.....and one other CRAZY thing I managed to pull off - dremeled out the exposed bolt! I needed to do so to install the BlastFX mother board and also allow me to I stall the LED and speakers good. I tried my best to retain the bolt as I had already modified it ... I will see how much I need to redo with green stuff. Now, I mind as well redo the extractor and plunger. Also did a test install of my trigger lever component- at a later stage, will have to add CA glue to secure the armature wire holding the component in place. Thanks for taking the time; have a great day!

  43. Thank you all for the high regards! Gazmosis, PM replied to! JohnnyChaos, astromech.net is the R2 builders group. I don't know much about them but from what I have heard they aren't sold as kits. Instead there are patterns and parts available for purchase or use to assemble and cut pieces from wood or styrene, or for those going for a heavy duty build using aluminum parts from runs that occur periodically. As for mine, I've gotten enough comments on the belly that I will probably increase the amount of wiring before I submit photos and make my neck piece slightly larger. Also, gotta grab a nice pair of these to make up for the very slight gap in the sides of the shorts. You enjoyed clicking that link a little too much.

  44. Almost completely finished, here are some more pics from today. My buddy's R2 isn't completely finished yet either. Also made a facebook page for the droid! https://www.facebook.com/pages/KC-3PO/917322388313043?ref=aymt_homepage_panel

  45. Been super busy with school, sorry for lack of updates. I've had this for about 2 months now, hopefully be able to finish assembly this summer. I sent this off in January and it took until about mid-April to get it back. The actually work was finished in February but it was a little difficult communicating with and making the transaction between here and Canada. But it's all good now and Canada is no longer holding my droid hostage! Here's to finishing this after I get through Step 1 of my boards. And finally I did do a little work to assemble the helmet for a presentable picture: So, coming to you late this summer/early fall! Enjoy!
