  1. Hello everyone! We on staff have decided to require the corners of the TK knee belt on applicable variations of the costume to be squared on the top, and rounded on the bottom corner, as most of us have already taken for granted, since it's quite obvious from looking at screen captures. So we hope that this change is a non-issue for most of you, and an easy fix for anyone who've missed it. Our gallery highlighting this detail is over 5 years old by now, so we think it's about time to put it to print. BR Locitus, the command staff, and the DO's

  2. It's one of those annoying Heisenbergian things from the EU -- not canon until it is, but everything in the EU prior to ROTJ is still tacitly "in" unless and until it's overwritten. Just don't put too much stock in anything. Back in the early '90s, Decipher had to come up with a bunch of stuff for the card game. That's where we get a whole lot of the names and ranks of various Rebels and Imperials and denizens. Everything had to be approved by Lucasfilm (for what that's worth, then and now), and most got propagated down through the later EU. Wizards of the Coast continued this when they got the RPG/CCG license in 2000. Between those we got (chronologically within the films) the following (non-TK) troopers: ANH DV-523 -- one of the first through the Tantive IV's breached airlock. DV-692 -- "Mr. No Stripes", aka "Inform Lord Vader we have a prisoner." ...And the following pilots/craft: ANH DS-73-3 -- The patrol ship the Falcon ran into. DS-3-12 -- The TIE chasing Luke that Wedge took out. DS-29-4 DS-55-2 DS-55-6 DS-61-2 -- Black 2. "Mauler Mithel". Vader's left wingman in the trench run. DS-61-3 -- Black 3. "Backstabber". Vader's right wingman. DS-61-4 -- Black 4. "Dark Curse". DS-61-9 DS-73-5 TESB [Stationed on the Executor] EX-1-2 (Bomber) EX-1-8 (Bomber) EX-4-9 [Rotational squadron stationed on the Thunderflare during Empire] OS-72-1 -- Obsidian 1. OS-72-2 -- Obsidian 2. OS-72-8 OS-72-10 -- Obsidian 10. ROTJ DS-181-3 -- Saber 3. Baron Fel's wingman. (Interceptor) DS-181-4 -- Major Phennir's wingman. (Interceptor) Brace for a mini-essay... I try to base as much of my informed conjecture on first sources as possible. The original, non-SE film is the baseline from which everything else is either derived, or deviated from. I've reached some conclusions that clash with more recent official assumptions, but better fit the observed phenomena. Like... The difference in rank insignia between ANH and TESB. Motti is listed in the credits as General Motti. Not sure when and where "Admiral" first got hung on him (I can run that down easily enough, but not right now), but General fits better, for many reasons. The Prequels establish the clonetroopers have commissioned officers, but no higher than the apparently-granular "Commander". Their Generals are non-clone officers. This supports what we first saw in TESB with Veers. The Imperial military is a combined service (though in ANH we only see the inside of an Imperial Army installation), with identical uniforms between the ship and ground forces, and the observed evidence of the rank insignia gives us a nice distinguishing feature to separate the two. Motti is the facility commandant (answering to Tarkin). Bast is seen directing Stormtroopers and gunnery crews, so is likely some flavor of General, like Veers. He sits with Tagge at the briefing, the two of them as far across the table from Motti as they can. All three are probably Generals, but Motti sneers at Tagge's concerns, referring to "your Starfleet". So Tagge was probably the General commanding the Stormtroopers embarked aboard the Devastator and, like Veers, Navy-style rank insignia while aboard ship, for ease of identification by Naval officers. Army rank insignia are a single row of some permutation of one through six blue, red, and/or amber chips. There's potentially a lot of information being conveyed by color, number, and placement. The Navy ranks, on the other hand, are geared for ease and speed of comprehension in the often-entirely-too-chaotic atmosphere of ship combat. Two rows, red over blue, and one can tell at a glance if one is encountering someone recently graduated (one pair), in the Lieutenant grades (two pairs), command grades (three pairs), or low, medium, or high level flag ranks (four, five, and six pairs, respectively). When you have a second to think, you can determine more finely who is senior to whom within that block. I theorize that four pairs is specifically for embarked Stormtrooper Generals, the Stormtrooper Corps being roughly analogous to the real-world Marines, being tacitly part of the naval forces. They serve the same role -- embarked troops and military base security (in both battle armor and garrison uniform -- a whole other can of worms I won't get into now). So, based on the unit sizes in the Grand Army shown on the mustering yard at the end of AOTC, and presuming unit sizes remain at least roughly the same over the next couple decades... 13-man squads, 2 squads per platoon (26). This is each file shown above. 6 platoons per company (156), 4 companies per battalion (624). This is each discrete block of troops, 24 files across. 5 battalions per legion (3,120), 3 legions per division (9,360). This is the larger array bordered by the access lanes. 3 divisions per corps (28,080), because that's a unit size given in the ancillary materials. Bigger than that, though, the Prequel stuff didn't give us. All that number crunching to surmise limits. Do we presume three-digit numbers where only three digits are given? We have four-digit TK Stormtroopers elsewhere in the newer material. Did TK-421 just omit the initial zero? That would give us up to ten thousand potential within a given prefix. Conveniently, a division -- at these numbers -- is enough shy of that mark to make things non-problematic. On the other hand, five digits gives us potentially up to a hundred thousand under a single prefix, so it could be a corps designator. Or it could be a flexible thing, applied to whatever discrete unit is posted to a particular ship or facility. Tarkin could just have a legion. Or each prefix could be presumed to have as big a block of numbers available as needed, that are unique to each trooper assigned to that posting over the years, the numbers getting higher as older troopers die or retire. Maybe there's another number hyphenated between the prefix and the individual identifier, like with the pilots, that gets left out for most day-to-day address. That would be the legion number (up to 9 legions in a corps, and legions just sound like a convenient "biggest standard unit"). In the case of the pilots, the prefix is the group identifier, the number in the middle is the wing number, the last number is the individual identifier. The EU gave us a structure where they follow the British/Commonwealth model of 3 squadrons per wing. The squadrons just have names, where applicable, for the pilots' callsigns. Where no squadron is designated, they go by the group name (see Obsidian, above). Me, I'm doing a Bridge Crew uniform just to get the IC tag, because the persona I've created for my non-face-character Stormtrooper costuming is posted to Imperial Center. Even in armor or Stormtrooper garrison uniform or Royal Guard robes, I'll refer to myself as "IC-whatever-whatever". This is a case where there is conveniently a club costume identifier tag that works for what I want. YMMV. --Jonah

  3. Hey Patrick welcome back brother and thank you for your Centurion application. CRL and Centurion Application Requirements: All required submission photos are present. As mentioned in your EIB app, beautiful job on your build. Also, your photos are perfect, every detail was presented, you've seriously done your homework. It's obvious you really wanted that Centurion badge. Vader would be pleased. Andrew and I are pleased to say your armor displays all the elements as set out in the Centurion CRL. Congratulations and welcome to Centurion Other-Armor Fit/Assembly: We had nothing to add here. Time to head out and make the Empire and your garrison proud.

  4. Dust pan, and if its really bad? a wet wipe. That's all I used and I built mine in the lounge! On a big drop sheet admittedly and I did need to dust the next day. In a garage you'll be fine. But you definitely want a proper respirator, that resin dust is nasty. Screwfix: I like the JPS Force 8 with the Press to Check P3 filters* but I used to use a 3M 4251. Both are great but the JSP one allows for replacement filters and is only £1 more. * I have a big head so need a Large JSP mask, the screwfix one is medium which fits most people. I used the standard 3M one.

  6. Hello all! I recently posted up a "hello" thread that I was going to start a build thread so here it is! I'm from Tulsa OK so I've been hanging out with the local guys from the Oklahoma Garrison and have been on a couple troops as a handler. I originally bought an Anovos kit about a year ago but I got discouraged with the size of the parts and decided to buy an AM 2.0 kit instead. I'm 5'7" and 230lbs so the Anovos kit was going to have to be shimmed quite a bit to fit around my legs and I just didn't want to deal with that. Big Brown Box day was fun! Parts were packed very nicely with lots of padding. The AM kit came with extra parts to do both hero and stunt versions as well as sandy parts. I gave the sandy parts away to a friend but I kept the second belt. The plan is to build up my kit initially as a Heavy Weapons Trooper and then build a second belt with drop boxes and holster so I can go as a regular ANH stunt TK when I don't want to carry extra HWT stuff. On to construction! I own a 3d printer and thought I would first try to make some snap plates for my internal strapping system. After some trial and error, I printed off a few. I snapped in some Tandy snaps and glued them in place with e6000 and so far they look like they should work fine. I did have to use some washers to make the posts on the snaps shorter so that I could crush them without deforming them so maybe I will edit the file to add in a disc or try to find some line 24 snaps with shorter posts. (Edit: I later found that I just needed a better anvil and set tool to fully set the posts of the snaps) I have shared the files for my snap plates here if anyone else wants to give them a go: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2784727

  7. Greetings fellow troopers! Picked up an ANOVOS suit secondhand... after many long nights building in the garage (and, um, 'sick' days), I finished my TK and was approved on Thanksgiving. Need to do a few final touches on my TK and then I'll be putting in my EIB and Centurion applications! Shout outs to Tony (ukswrath) and Joseph (justjoseph63) for their help in my build. Without your threads and supplies I think we'd be seeing far less troopers applying for L2/L3 - I know for me, at least, the difference between not applying and 'going for it' was about $90 and a few more hours worth of building. For anyone who doesn't think they can do a Centurion build, this is my first time building any costume, and I did it in a little over three weeks. If I can do it, so can you! Long live the Empire!

  8. Troopers, Looking to outsource all the interior mods on my TK bucket. Looking at Ukswrath fan and audio systems. Also need to have the interior plasti-dipped and pads installed. While I would do this myself I would really like someone that's been down this road already. Looking for a really clean install. Something like I am seeing below but with Ukswrath stuff of course. Unless there are better suggestions. He seems to be the man in this realm. Thoughts? Interest? Thanks in advance!

  9. At the end of the day, it is a simple matter of what do you want to achieve with your costume? If your goal is to join the 501st as a Stormtrooper variant, you must make the decision as to which one you want to replicate, and follow that particular CRL. If however, you choose to build a screen accurate (and for the record, Legion TKs aren’t really screen accurate, as mentioned above, too many variables) Stormtrooper for your own personal enjoyment whether that is for display purposes, or for a Halloween costume, or whatever you choose to do with it, then pick one on screen, and knock yourself out. People here will support you and help you as best as they can, but in order to do so you have to say up front what it is that you are doing, so that they know what type of help and which references they should use to offer their help. You will find no shortage of experts here. There are experts in screen built/used costumes who will definitely chime in should you say that you’re building one for a replica for display purposes. They’ll be able to tell you exactly which type of snaps were used in various connections even. Far more numerous are experts in the costume requirements for joining the 501st Legion, who will be happy to assist you in either endeavor with a positive attitude and support. Please recognize the difference in who is making Which comments, and apply their advice as it suits your needs. There is no need for bullying, bashing, or putting down of either group, as each has gleaned their individual expertise by their own merits, and each can offer you advice that is tailored to helping you achieve your goals. Regardless of your intended purpose, I wish you the best of luck with your build!

  10. After more than 10 years of dreaming I decided to start my journey to become an imperial Stormtrooper by end of December 2016 to celebrate Star Wars’ and my 40th anniversary After a short dispute with my uncle I left his moisture farm and registered at the imperial academy of the FISD on Carida early in January. During my first steps towards the topic I was happy to find the great forum of the academy with its kind and helpful community. I started my research to find out which armour would be the best for me and could fulfill my requirements of getting a screen accurate looking Centurion Stormtrooper who just left the academy (clean and shiny ). At the end I had to make a decision between RS and TM. I decided to go with TM because I don’t like the bubbles on the RS helmet on the one hand and I like the original/organic look of TM’s armour and its overall appearance on the other hand. So master armourer Troopermaster got my order early in February 2017 after one month of very intensive research. Because I did not dare myself to assemble belt and helmet and paint it, I ordered Troopermaster to do this for me. I also decided to go with the snap strapping system because it is a bit handier than the original brackets. Yes I know, it is not screen accurate at the end, but my requirement was to build a stormtrooper which has a screen accurate appearance while taking the advantages of the allowed building methods While waiting for BBB-Day I forced the local imperial research department to focus on how to build the armour and what common mistakes I should and could avoid during the build. I also gathered the necessary materials and tools as well as the needed accessories like boots, neck seal, under suit and blaster. I also cleaned up my garage, the weapon test area and the workbench and installed a holonet interface (some call it laptop) to have an easy access to the imperial archives and its huge database of blueprints and holo-vids for answering upcoming questions during my work. This special developed interface was also capable of receiving audio transmissions from the imperial propaganda department, so I could listen to the latest news from all over the galaxy while working on the holy duraplast parts. From now on the garage was called “imperial armoury” whereas my wife called me just crazy, although she was the one who encouraged me to spend so much money for some pieces of plastic But anyway, when BBB-Day would come I will be prepared. However, some days of waiting were to go, so I had time to practice my patience. An easy thing for a Jedi, I guess, but for a simple Stormtrooper having an itch to jump in his armour and maintain peace and justice in the galaxy that is very very difficult But finally end of May the BBB arrived from UK. Full of beans and quite confident of having gathered enough knowledge I started right away, always one eye on the holonet, the helpful build threads and the requirements for Centurion (my final target). During my build I faced three major time-killing issues regarding the forearm fitting, the torso strapping and the ammo belt assembly. But at the end I could solve all problems thanks to Troopermaster‘s helpful advice. End of August, after three month of blood, sweat and tears, I finally managed to complete a wonderful piece of art. I prepared for the final test immediately, the approval to become an imperial Stormtrooper Only three days after TK-61276 aka T-Jay and I took the photos for 501st approval I got my own TK-ID. The imperial army command assigned me to the White Shadows Squad of the German Garrison. So, now I can call myself imperial Stormtrooper and member of “Vader’s Fist”, the 501st Legion. Great feeling and I am looking forward to my first mission on the front lines. Although my main mission objective was not completed with being a Stormtrooper and member of the 501st, a secondary objective, not less important, had to be accomplished to call the entire mission a full success. I wanted to become a Centurion of the Legion, so some more steps were still to go. But with attention to the Centurion requirements during my build I was confident to achieve this target too. Additional Director’s Cut content starts here With being assigned a unique TK-ID end of August, I got march orders from the imperial army command immediately. My squad should protect and secure an imperial recruiting event at the city archives (public library) of the neutral city of Bergheim at begin of November which would include patrolling the building environment also. Because the imperial reconnaissance unit reported hostile surroundings and a small possibility of rebel activities at the operation area, mission command ordered our squad to prepare for the upcoming mission carefully. So, in the meantime I enhanced the wearability of my armour to have better movability during combat, improved the filter system and the optical system of the helmet and corrected some minor issues regarding the armour part positions to improve the overall appearance. My intention was to show the galactic public how precise imperial Stormtrooper could look like and that is an honor to serve the Emperor by maintain peace and justice throughout the galaxy Confident to be well prepared I, fully armed, took part in my first ground mission at the front lines. With eight other fearless members of the White Shadows Squad of the 501st Legion, including my brother in arms T-Jay aka TK-61276, the deployed fire team accomplished the mission objective without any incident and no casualties. Thanks to this epic success the imperial command on Coruscant will welcome some new recruits in the future definitely. Encouraged by passing my baptism of fire successfully, I decided to go for my personal mission objective, becoming a Centurion of the Stormtrooper Corps at last. After my fellow war photographer and weapon specialist T-Jay had taken the required photos I prepared for the next step towards this target immediately. Only two days after requesting level 2 approval at the imperial army command I was promoted to the rank of Expert Infantry and got my badge on 21. November 2017 from Deployment Officer Tony, TK-10116. Reaching the second level without any complaint made me proud on the one hand and nervous on the other hand. Only one step was left to end a long journey and, after more than 10 years, let my dream come true. Excited and with my heart beating I prepared my request for third level approval right away. After 7 days of nail-biting suspense I was promoted to the rank of Centurion on 28. November 2017 by 501st Deployment Officer Tony, TK-10116. Being surprised positively, I reached this final target without no complaints again. According to some rumors, even Lord Vader himself was pleased with my work. That’s some kind of honor I never had expected. “Someone must have told them about my little maneuver at the Battle of Taanab, äähm I mean my first Mission at Bergheim.” Ok, what I want to say is, the hard work at the imperial research department and the imperial armoury payed out in a way which makes me very proud at the end. Finally, with being allowed to call myself Centurion of the Imperial Stormtrooper Corps, Member of “Vader’s Fist”, the 501st Legion, my personal mission is a full success. I am very pleased of reaching this target within a short year after starting that mission in December 2016 and within a very special year also, the 40th anniversary of Star Wars and myself. It’s a great honor to be part of this great community, connected by one of the greatest hobbies in the world. Additional Director’s Cut content ends here At last I want to thank some people, who helped me throughout this mission. Without their help it would have been much more difficult. First of all I have to thank my wife who tolerated my absence at several evenings during my armour build. She encouraged me to let a dream come true and furthermore helped me out when more than two hands were needed. So at the end it took three month of building only, what I never had expected when I started the project end of May. Second I want to thank Troopermaster of course, for providing me this wonderful piece of plastic and particularly for all his helpful advice during my build and his patience while answering my many many questions before and after BBB-Day. Third I have to thank T-Jay who gave me great support by building a very detailed and unique E-11, using his completion set. He also made his TM armour available for me to take it as a reference which helped me out a lot. I am pleased that he was part of my first troop, we together could maintain peace and justice in the galaxy and made children, big and small ones, smile I also have to thank JustJoseph63 and Darman for their stuff and the very fast delivery. Great job guys. Last but not least I have to thank you all, the community, for this forum with its depth of information which helped me to start my journey and stay on target. Great to be part of it. Thank you. TK-77to17 salutes you

  13. Well I got so excited about getting cleared and receiving my TK ID.... I forgot to report for duty..... hope Lord Vader didn’t notice. I still can’t believe my armour cleared, it’s an amazing feeling having spent an absolute age building it..... I really didn’t think I could do it.... and there were times when I thought.... you have messed that up.... especially when using the heat gun... doh... It really is a credit to the armourers on the UKG and the people on here, Christine (cricket) Frank ( fragarock )and Paul (TrooperMaster) and the rest of you for giving me much needed help, advice and support... and when I was really low or felt I had hit a brick wall you all encouraged me to continue.... the spirit of “troopers helping troopers” existed throughout my build.... I can never thank you all enough..... you are all amazing people and troopers and a credit to the 501st So what’s next.... I have currently submitted my kit for EIB and will hopefully achieve Centurion in the future, but let’s get EIB first.. Then I need to do an induction troop with the UKG, get branded and then troop some more.... I’m also looking at what to do next.... I need something to build, perhaps an E-11 all of my own and then possibly ESB.... I believe the armour is ok to swap between ANH and ESB, but I would needs new lid, belt, holster, blaster and gloves...... All that should keep me going for awhile As I said thanks to all of you, I could not have done this without your help Stephen Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  19. I don't think that the 501st or FISD are against screen accuracy, just that - especially in the case of ANH TK's - they were built so haphazardly (we keep forgetting that Star Wars was a low-budget '70s film) that if they were to allow every variation that showed up on screen it would devolve into 'anything goes'. There are troopers with 10 teeth, troopers with 6, troopers missing tube stripes, TKs with unpainted ab buttons, stunt troopers with four rivets on their belts (instead of two), missing holsters, missing thermal detonators, troopers with shoulder covers put on backwards, some held together with nothing but duct tape... so instead the focus is on the majority depiction in the film. TL;DR: Yes, there was a trooper with 10 teeth. Doesn't mean it has to be approvable. My two cents.

  24. Thanks Mathias for bringing this up. It's an important topic and one that the CRLs haven't really pointed out as it hasn't come up much in the past, but we wanted to let everyone know of this pending change a few days before baking the CRL. Any questions or comments?
    1 point
  25. As far as I know there is a kind of "conservation of the status quo" (Bestandsschutz in german ), means you will keep your status concerning your 501st basic approval even if the CRL is changed. If you are set to "inactive" you have to modify your costume according the new CRL guidelines to get an active member again. If you have been an active member always (means you take part of one event at least) you don't have to modify your costume if the CRL changes but you are highly recommended to do so to ensure a uniform look. Regarding the EIB or Centurion status I don't know, but I think this would be handled in a similar way. To be sure you should ask Tony or Andrew Edit: I hope, Frank is not angry to much because we captured his build thread for this "off-topic" discussion

  27. Just some minor caution, I have a green and gold tk for fun. I tried the paint as I trimmed pieces thing and ended up having to go back and repaint after I rigged and fitted do to sizing issues with rubs etc. It might be wise to rig and size before painting, I've kinda learned the hard way on that. Certainly understand the logic behind doing a part than painting it.

Could you please try and use Imgur, and re upload so the images in this thread are large and easy to identify what we need to see. 37. I’m not that technical too, I sometimes find pictures help. This is how I fitted my split rivets, your elastic will be longer than mine, I also doubled mine up for added strength. I needed a 3” long elastic, so I cut 6” so I could double it up. You will also need something to punch a hole in the elastic for the rivets to go through Rivet placed through hole and elastic Outside Inside Washer added Prise the rivet apart with a flat head screwdriver, resting the head of the river on a piece of wood for support, or something similar Use pliers / hammer to gently tap the prongs of the rivet flat... I tapped the pliers with the hammer Job done Outside Inside Obviously because your elastic will be longer the sides will not butt up against each other Hope this helps Good luck Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  44. Have made a few ;). I use 1 and 1/2 hats which fits quite nicely. Just a case of unpicking seams and sewing in a new section. I fit elastic from on side to the other, then in the middle of that another piece attaches and fits in the middle of the back. When you put it on the helmet the T shape of elastic holds it there quite well.
