  1. Kudos to everyone who helped make this NL a good one. They take time to do right, but add immeasurable value to the detachment and the Legion. My gratitude to the staff for maintaining the tradition in fine form.
  2. Gorgeous! We have one in our garrison and it was truly a labor of love and time. A very hard costume to do right, but man are they the best for photos.
  3. I think the largest person ever to sport a TE type TK was CMANavy who was IIRC 6'4" and 240lbs. You can do it, but honestly your are far better off with RT, who is arguably the best armor fit for someone who is larger than stock. TM is good too, but RT is bigger yet. I'm 6'0" and 180lbs, and think I'm about the edge for TE type armor (TE,TE2,ATA,TMC,CAP-all versions, etc.). I'm guessing RS is about the same.
  4. TM is truly the Trooper Master! Can't get any better
  5. Doesn't look like anything I've seen in a long while - 100% sure not RT Mod. Alas, this is not Legion approvable.
  6. The shiny look is just fine - enjoy it and never worry about defending that choice
  7. " can see why this would be of interest, as we should all care where the hobby started and how it evolved." QFT. Without understanding how things evolved, people can make pretty ignorant statements about the present. The topic title is a bit misleading though. It would be more fair to call it "the main maker of FX armor is...", as in the past while there is one primary person putting out FX kits, there have been numerous smaller players who recast FX and used to sell it on Ebay. However, I don't track ebay enough to see if any of them are even in business anymore.
  8. In the end, the Legion is there to support the Legion membership. It is not a club designed or intended to provide cop duties to the entire replica prop world. Wrong is in the eye of the beholder too. There are *many* non-501st Legion prop makers out there who look down on the Legion, it's mission, and have made a sport of ripping off it's members (and they still do today). I don't see any other part of our hobby defending that, so it's a bit like the pot calling the kettle black. And, it's not entirely the same hobby anyway. The 501st is a non for profit costuming club, many of who's members engage in replica prop making to the point that the Legion costuming guidlines allow (as we truly can't always replica crappy props from the 70's and troop). This is different from the larger prop making community who is strictly out to make profit from their work, and have no charitable element. Lastly, it should be your last post on this thread, as we explicitly have another forum to discuss such a topic, as it's one that gets hauled out and beaten to death on an annual basis. "Doing a good thing for one group of people doesn't justify doing wrong to another group of people no matter how you see them. But you just keep telling yourself that. " Yup, agree with you there. I tell recasters that all the time, but they always twist it to fit their own point of view. Remember the DIY forums?
  9. True Vern, this is my personal opinion and how I operated as DL. TE (Matt Gauthier) lied, cheated, and stole money from so many people it's not even funny. So, why should I respect and protect the work of someone who is like this? He sold his molds several times over, then recasted himself, then sold those molds again. To me he is not part of any community of mine. He is banned for life on this and every other 501st forum, not to mention non-501st forums. For CAP, he recasted TE then said publicly he did not care if anyone recast what he did. So, who is to complain?
  10. Some things are now "open source". Original TE you can recast, and CAP put his v1 stuff out there as "anyone can recast it". Why not start with those? I think there are a few others that are considered "public domain" as far as this forum / the Legion is concerned.
  11. Wow, how far back do you go then - 2004? I ask in that in the 10 years I've been in the Legion there has always been recasting going on. Sometimes more blatant that not, but there are a lot of liars in this hobby...
  12. Correct, meaning that if Rob & Simon lodge a complaint at the Legion level, then we can't not follow through.
  13. Not sure what happened, but it's strange to see all the most recent post dates of today, when many of these are 4 years old...
  14. Also, IIRC it's more accurate to say CAPv2, then CAP, which is not the same thing...
  15. The downside of HIPS is it really needs painting, unless he's using a different type of plastic?
  16. Posting the info would be helpful...
  17. Understood, and I would totally agree with you there. I'm 100% confident people will make this suit and will rock it out. If we're lucky, they will be done in time for Celebration 7 - how cool would that be?
  18. I believe acceptance goes both ways. It should be OK that some folks love it, some will hate it. There is no rule that says everyone on FISD has to like everything equally about stormtroopers. Even in canon TK's we see this, e.g. some like the ROTJ TK, some do not. It's a live & let live kinda place...
  19. I'm not sure this is the right way to go. I can see personal for sale threads, but some project sales don't get a lot of traffic. Maybe 4 or 6 months is more reasonable.
  20. Thanks - I say this as I think it will become more important as more people want to go EI/Centurion and need a simple, easy to understand guide of what is acceptable and what is not.
  21. Hey Locitus - should we sticky this? It's something that can be very easy to get wrong.
  22. Wow! This is pretty pimped out. Do you ever get problems with moisture on the boards?
  23. Nice - can't wait to see how this progresses.
  24. Well, I did the best I could. Seems until someone finds something better, it's what we have. Do remember like post ranks this is just for fun, and if you want to get in to film replication you'll need to mind the notes that Damian posted.
