  1. IIRC he has to replace the sniper plate and compad, as these parts did not have a clear lineage. There may be other things, but that's all that comes to mind, as this was discussed quite some time ago.
  2. You can always subscribe to a topic manually via the controls.
  3. A very wise idea. Emperor Palpatine has indicated that he will be paying particular interest to your career now. I think it will really help clarify how feedback is presented, e.g. must fix, should fix, can fix.
  4. Kevin - you are the canonical RMQ trooper. I hope we use you for the CRL images, and even more I think LFL should use you for promotions. Wow, but you bring that costume to life.
  5. Agreed - I should have said for an out of the box solution. FWIW, my boots are painted too, though alas I don't have the perfect ones
  6. Well Mike, you're right on 2 counts: 1. I was wrong. I haven't seen a trooper sport Caboots in so long that I had mistakenly thought we'd pushed that detail down to base CRL. Apologies! 2. I'm quite confident that the new Caboots will be everything you promise. Bonus: 3. The real winners will be 501st troopers, as they'll have 2 good sources for accurate boots.
  7. If there ever is a run, I'll definitely have CIH (cash in hand).
  8. Wow, just wow. This is now the definitive space pack. Can we use your pack for the CRL?
  9. You realize that's a bit silly, eh? It will simply be posted to the boots page for the world to see. The whole point if FISD is transparency - if you can't share it here, then it's best just not to say anything.
  10. I guess my point is - why are we arguing about that at the EI level? Centurion, maybe. The whole point was to be a bit better than base Legion, not millimeter accuracy. Guess I'm not sure why that's such an issue - his suit looks great. And, I'm not saying it 'cause I'm in the same garrison, I'm saying it as a guy who has to resubmit my EI soon. I can't ever remember us being this picky in the past.
  11. Err...a bit pick for EI? Egads, you're making me not want to re-apply for mine.
  12. Agreed Juan. I think the paucity of information on how to mold your own armor is that it's such a lost skill. I remember when I started in 2005 it seemed there were more resources available. Again, talking to really told timers (e.g. pre-2000), it seemed much more common to go that route.
  13. Sad but true. Next time I see Filoni...geez. What an epic FAIL!
  14. Nope, not for some years. They were written out of the CRL when I was DL, and that was what - 2 years ago? This is very old news, or should be. Else, a good topic for the FISD newsletter.
  15. I think you should be happy at 5'8". If people give you crap, simply reply "aren't you a little bald for a wookie?". 5'8" is not short.
  16. This is worth noting. Yes, when something is out of production we usually consider it fair game for recasting, however with it being available again...you bring up some valid points. However given how much you have to mod it to make it 501st acceptable, it would seem that for a little more money one can get a much better helmet, so why recast?
  17. These are no longer Legion acceptable. They look like Caboots which were back in the day, but no longer are now. Surprised that Mike hasn't swapped suppliers. TKBoots are the most accurate generally available turn-key and are cheaper than Caboots.
  18. I'm ROTFL wrt to the pauldron as that's happened to me too - e.g. you're at a troop and the one photo that's taken is when some part is not quite agreeing with you. I remember one time as a sandy I took my pack off after a long troop, and going back out I forgot to put my pauldron on. Tons of great garrison pix, but there is me as a pauldron-less sandy. The shame! WRT to NE, it's all in the beholder. Yes, there are parts that are pretty clearly marked as being recast. Yes, it's an idealized sculpt. But, if put together right can certainly be 501st acceptable. In the end it's your kit - you put it together - go have fun with it! Of *course* you can upgrade later if you wish. That's 1/2 the fun - start wit the basics, troop the crap out of it, then upgrade as time/budget allow. Nothing says it has to be perfect out the gate. Here is me before my first troop ever circa 2005. Here is me with a few upgrades: Then in full new TE2 kit circa 2008
  19. FYI the Legion *does* have a stance on recasting. The official stance is that we do not condone it. Some people interpret this as turning a blind eye, but nothing can be further from the truth. Yes, some members do believe in unfettered recasting, however that is not the majority opinion. The reality is that molding and vac-forming your own armor is massively time intensive but can be done, as some older 501st members I've met actually went this route and I've seen the results first-hand. OTOH, there are some armors that are considered "open season" and you can certainly recast them and make your own. Then again, this is an expensive route and more expensive than simply buying a kit. If you want to go this route simply to learn some skills, by all means go ahead. However unless you own a legitimate vac-forming business, e.g. are using aluminum bucks and can produce on an industrial scale, I think you'll find that the concept of making money as an armor vendor is just like that of being a drug dealer. Yes, some guys at the top make money, but most still live with their mom's.
  20. I'm curious to see how this thread progresses. As you said, there is a lot of mis-information out there.
  21. Congrats - you're looking good!
  22. I've also used a single long piece of neoprene.
  23. It will be a challenge, but can be done. Your biggest problem will be the legs. I'm 6'0" and had to replace the shins with ones from RT.
