  1. Yes, FX are technically still approvable in the Legion, though as they are not made anymore it's been a bit of a moot point. The main adjustments would be to: 1. Put in flat lenses (if doing a stunt helmet) 2. Add ear screws 3. Add two extra teeth and re-paint the frown (if doing a stunt helmet) 4. Put on accurate tube stripes 5. Put on accurate aerators 6. I *think* the ears are OK, but if they are only 3 bump ears, you'll need to find a way to get 4 bump ears. It's been a long time since I've seen an FX helmet truly, but I believe the above is all you need to do.
  2. Like many I've dipped in the trooperbay website numerous times, but only once have bought armor (a helmet). My experience at least was positive - good quality, on time, and looked great.
  3. Wow - that is so awesome looking - remind me to get one for myself! And...congrats trooper - welcome aboard
  4. Well, it's up to the powers that be, but for my $.02...the hooks/eyes closure is not mandatory, and the fact that you used a larger cover strip to allow this closure method is a choice on your end. It would seem to me that you could have used a narrower cover strip had you used velcro. Is that a correct statement?
  5. I ordered my first set of armor from Edward aka CostumeJunkie in 2005 and still have the emails. He was a good guy for FX armor back when there was FX armor and before there was an FISD. Yes, necro-post however I'm enjoying the nostalgia trip from ~9 years ago.
  6. Remember the 501st CRL's are not about exact prop replication, but instead given the inconsistencies of the movies meant to capture the canonical likeness. It's one thing to watch the movies on Blu-ray on your 60" HDTV and freeze frame to see a detail, quite another when you watch the movie on the big screen.
  7. Some tells are easier to read than others. AP forearms are easy to spot compared to other types as the dimples are rounder and not as deep. Others as noted can take a loooooot of staring at photos and memorizing small details. SuperTrooper, TrooperMaster, TK4205, and Locitus have particularly keen eyes.
  8. Incredible! And I'm not a zombie kinda guy either, so that's saying something
  9. I can only speak for myself. Personally I like the look of the hero helmets better, so that's what I want to troop as.
  10. My personal experience with bubble lenses is...it depends. My old FX ones gave me a huge headache and I hated them. OTOH, Mike Appling (MTK) did a TE2 hero helmet for me and had some custom made bubble lenses that were extremely easy to see out of with no strain. If you are concerned, then simply ask that the lenses be not permanently affixed, and you can then swap them out as you so choose. My $.02...
  11. Listen to Billy Haggis, you should. There is a reason he has multiple awards for contributions to the detachment and it's body of knowledge.
  12. Absolutely gorgeous. Actually the Centurion program simply says that there is a single award that we reference unlike EI, but that doesn't mean you can't get multiple suits Centurion cleared. Does that make sense?
  13. Paul is 100% on the mark, I believe. As you know, the 501st costume standards really only care about how the costume looks from the outside, so as long as it is cosmetically correct that's all that's judged against. As the saying goes "if I've done it, it's not impossible", Paul has put together numerous suits using accurate methods, so it would seem to be more of how it was built one would think. Or, even if using correct methods, sometimes mistakes happen. I've been worried about long term troop-ability too, but one person in my garrison has a suit made by Paul and he troops the heck out of it, and it seems to hold up just fine.
  14. I'm working on an armor lineage tree now - figure it will help prevent the same questions be asked again and again. And again.
  15. Wow - as perfect as you can get. My dream someday - you're reality today.
  16. 45 and still loving it!
  17. Nice! Getting the chest/back right is very hard. This is coming along well.
  18. Wow - this is coming along great!
  19. Hi Zach! Welcome to FISD and it's great to see another blaster builder. Can't wait to see pix as this sounds like a really cool project. As you can see there are some real blaster nuts on the boards (as you can see, Vern is one of them), so please understand that any questions aren't meant as criticism but simply people being very excited. What can we do to help? Sounds like you are off to a great start. Like others here, some pix of where you are at would be very helpful. Lastly...I've had to moderate heavily on this forum. Before people other than Zach reply, please re-read the forum rules about how we treat others (or remember what your Mom always told you). Keep the discussion on topic and friendly, or the Emperor will be most displeased You've been warned
  20. Wow - talk about above and beyond! It's been my dream to see this costume 100% brought to life - thanks for helping make that a reality
  21. I kinda like it.
  22. Woo hoo! Congrats to all that were involved - this is a great day indeed.
  23. I'm wondering if in Season 2 they'll change it? The Clone Wars helmets changed over time - perhaps enough people will whisper in Filoni's ear...
  24. Once again Karin demonstrates why she has an Achievement Award. I don't think anyone knows more on the subject than she does
  25. And there was much rejoicing! Thanks Eric for having backbone. FISD was created for transparency. If people want to keep secrets, this is the wrong place to be.
