  1. THE FORUMS ARE BACK THE FORUMS ARE BACK THE FORUMS ARE BAAACK! My goodness it's awful spending a day without them. Especially when I do something like this! Meet my flower child, Smudge. First I got his brow sorted out using just my exacto. I've taken to sorta whittling the plastic for general reshaping (wearing cutproof gloves) as it means I don't end up covered in white dust. I smoothed it a little more and then placed my brow trim. I marked the angle with a pencil and cut the trim with scissors while holding it spread open. Testing the trim... Thanks to gazmosis' tutorial I knew to trim the wearer's right side very generously to allow for overlap with the face plate. That does necessitate reshaping the side of the bucket to curve over the face properly. I used a heat gun (oh, the horror) and a thin canning jar. It took many patience, but I eventually got it lying along the face better. Nothin' a little ear can't cover up! I think. Positioning the face using magnets was super convenient and remarkably secure. Threw a few doubles along the brow and ears and adjusted away. When it got to looking good, I stacked a bunch more magnets on... ...checked the alignment a few dozen more times... ...and drilled a few holes to tack everything in place. It's looking pretty great to me!! More tomorrow. Ear work. Dun dun dunnn.

  2. You can try a little heat or tighter strapping on the butt plate, you could also try attaching a V section of abs strips, only the end on the butt plate is glued, which still allows for movement, it will keep the butt plate held inward, here's the shape:

  5. Ergh. That's a good consideration. I'm a little disappointed with how the caps are on there anyway, so I might disassemble and go down to 7 1/4". Yes, definitely!

  8. Ok, so I got my ANH AM2 kit 2 days ago, yay. Now I know that there are 2 variants of this costume, the Hero and Stunt. Just wanting to hear some opinions about either. I would also love to be able to get lvl3 (aiming high), but I’m wanting to know what the best way to go about it is? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Let the trimming begin Sand off all the rough edges Same as the last build we will need to add some shims to the kidney First the backing plate Checking shim for gaps Apply the JB weld and clamp and magnet in place Cut cover strips Front cover strips applied, now to wait for the glue to dry

  10. It's been a long road and have learned a lot from the members on this site. Thank you to all for helping the new recruits and putting smiles on kids faces. I will say my AM armor is fantastic, especially for the taller and more robust (the empire makes good food). Also have their thicker plastic thighs, feels more like wearing actual armor. Hope to meet some of you in future troops! Lou

  11. Hi folks, Took some time today to look more thoroughly at the singular monocular from Tinos completion set. I have a rough idea how to install it to the scope but rather confused how to install the tiny lense with the reticle I've studied some pictures to know if I need to add green stuff to keep the reticule lense a certain distance from the large lense but still unsure. Right now, as the picture shows, the reticle are blurry when the lense is up against the small end..anyone can lend insight?

  16. Thanks! Should be able to take care of the easy stuff, like extending the frown paint, or adding butt elastic straps, quickly. Some of the others that take glue and trimming might be a while. Lost my workspace for now, but hope I get room to finish it up again. Wife isn't wild about me taking over the kitchen and livingroom. [emoji6] Thanks! Sent from my SM-G955U1 using Tapatalk

  17. Now, when adding more and more parts, i am getting more and more excited :-) :-) Don't want to know when i am at the painting stage :-) Well, i stopped counting the hours that i have spent on the wholoe blaster, meanwhile. As on most on the builds here in the FISD, a lot of time is spent. Thanks for your appreciation! Thanks for the hint with the scope position as well, this is corrected now. Added some green stuff into the wrong holes and "basta" :-): After correcting the position of the scope, i read many other builds and the blaster reference again, to check and see, how and where the counter has its position. Hope everything is right :-): Thanks for reading and commenting!

  21. I would never have thought of that V method. Very cool! I will however try heating first, and if no luck, then look into the V tab. Off the top of my head, I don't think I have a section of scrap ABS close to that shape, but I think I could heat and bend one into it. Especially for those super thin scraps. Thanks!

  25. It is very interesting to read your comments. Elsewhere on these and other forums, it was stated by someone "in the know" that The Mouse is micromanaging aspects of the products such as testing and packaging. When any one of these things are rejected, it is back to the drawing board for Anovos, leading to additional delays. Furthermore, it has been said, and appears to be true, that The Mouse has Joe/Anovos under a gag order regarding what can be said and shown. If there is truth to what you and the other person posts, then it seems like The Mouse shares some of the blame of the customer dissatisfaction and it would be a bit hypocritical of them to be coming down hard on ANOVOS because of this. As it stands, I'm still going to wait it out for the First Order armor from them.

  30. Had a chance on the weekend for Jerry to do test fit of the armor, strapping on chest needed adjusting, braces to add to the belt to keep the thighs up a little higher. Also needed to heat the left shin, pinching on the sides of Jerry's ankle bones, a little tweaking and done. We did encounter the Velcro on the back of the shins pulling off, never had any issues before with E6000 and normal Velcro, mine haven't move in 6 years, the glue had dried properly and could even see the imprint of the Velcro in the glue but it just didn't hold. Scrapped the old glue off and used a new tube in case the other was too old, also used a heavier industrial Velcro, waiting for the glue to dry now. Also added rivets and snaps to the belt for the holster. So that's pretty much it, we are done

  31. Hi all, I've been pouring over all of the reference materials I could get my hands on and was wondering if someone can help me confirm some things... apologies if these things have been hashed out already! 1. The gasket for the knee appears to have a cutout/slit for movement. The first time I saw this was in a magazine photoshoot, so I dug through frame by frame and found what I think is matching screen references for the opening. If I was to hazard a guess, there are two gaskets for each leg, one is the thigh gasket (which the knee armour plate is connected to, and a shin gasket. The shin gasket tucks under the thigh/knee gasket which causes the overhanging knee plate that I see often 2. Some of the finger armour appears to have a recessed groove like the hand plate. Every second and third finger plate has the groove, whilst only the thumb tip has a groove. The index and middle finger armour also has a raised section with a small pillbox like recess (like the hand plate). 3. In the CRL and visual guide the SE-44c has chroming but the one she fires in the film is all black. Are either OK? 4. The frown on TLJ Phasma is a lot tighter than TFA Phasma. I've been measuring against the Anovos I am deconstructing and there are some differences that make the frown thinner. I have yet to document this properly. I am starting to think they changed the faceplate only, not the whole bucket. Thigh/knee/shin gasket references: Here is the overhang reference: Finger Armour references: SE-44C reference pics:

  32. Here is a front shot of the bucket, you cannot really see it that clearly but the face plate is kinda off centre (more towards the left) this is ok for me because I’m essentially destroying the bucket to repaint. I had heard that there were a ton of issues with this bucket so was prepared anyway. Pretty poor craftsmanship on Anovos part though. There are pinholes and other small defects that should have been removed prior to painting. I think these were a rush job and even after removing the faceplate and copious amounts of glue and 3M foam bits I can tell that they didn’t give a toss about making them correctly. The price is definitely not justifiable for this bucket, but I’m not here to rag on Anovos. Just outlining some of the challenges with modifying this bucket. The next picture removing the faceplate. To do this I gently pried it off very slowly using my fingers. Just insert behind the faceplate (there is room) and gently lift and release. Lift and release. You can feel the glue give way and crack. Came off pretty easy in the end. You can see the pink glue and two black 3M sticky foam patches on the centre right of the face plate. The next step is to remove the rubber trim, this is glued in with something like PVA as it was very easy to pull out. It was not bonded to the paint at all, merely held in place. That was a relief! The next step was to pull out the lining. This probably took the longest in this whole process. The lining is backed with foam which was glued to the inside using something similar to shoe goo. So a great deal of the foam came off the lining. I can now make a pattern from the current lining to do a full new lining when the bucket is completed. The next step, and for me the most nerve-wracking was the lens! I used a craft knife to gently pry it off. They used two different coloured glues! Around the top of the lens it was a black almost rubber like adhesive. Around the rest was the pink hard plastic glue. I worked my way around the edges and eventually it popped off cleanly. So here is the helmet ready for paint stripping. I plan on sanding it back to avoid using any chemicals that may react poorly to what is already on the bucket Thanks for tuning in [emoji3]

  34. Hi Aaron, and welcome to your EIB review. All the required submission photos have been posted. Your armor appears to display all necessary elements as set out in the level 2 CRL. The DO crew would like to welcome you to Expert Infantry..... Congratulations, trooper. Other-Armor Fit/Assembly:In this section we review observations made by your fellow troopers and ourselves. Some observations may lead to suggestions to improve the overall look of your armor. If any suggestion affects any application it will be listed separately in the above or below sections. Well done for taking on board the suggestions made by your fellow troopers. They have already improved the overall look of your armour. There are still a few easy adjustments that could take your armour to even higher heights. Starting from the top, you've made a really nice job of the frown paint. If you wanted to add that extra ANH Stunt touch, you could consider extending the paint beyond the 5th un-drilled tooth. Examples below: Moving down the armour a little, we would suggest a couple of adjustments to help the overall look of your kit. Shoulder bell elastic could be shortened to reduce the gaps, getting them as close as possible to the plastic shoulder bridges. They are currently sitting a little further away from the chest than they could be. It also looks as if your shoulder strapping (connecting the chest to back plate over your shoulders) is popping out from under the plastic shoulder bridges. It might be worth looking to see if you can line these up with the bridges to make them less visible. Ref: In one of your original pictures, it appears that there might be a lot of excess room around the wrist. You could consider tapering the forearms to achieve a sleeker fit. Ref: Your thigh and shin cover-strips look quite oversized. Based on the inner construction of those parts, it looks like you could comfortably reduce these in size to around 20mm wide. For a taller chap, you've made a great job of spacing the armour parts. If at all possible, we would suggest evening out the back to kidney gap if possible. Moving down to your calves, they were originally overlapping the wrong way. Well done for making that correction. They look a lot better now. Reference calves: Your butt plate is hanging quite loose on the right side. Elastic adjustments should resolve this. I've highlighted in red where an elastic internal strap could help to resolve this. Ref of butt plate Thank you for making the suggested paint changes. Both of your ab button plates could be reduced in size, with nice squared off corners. Also, if you go for Centurion, we would highly recommend tidying up the paint a little to go that extra mile. Ref Centurion Suggestions:In this section we prepare you the best we can for Centurion. Whilst many of the above are recommended changes, the below would be required for the highest level that is Centurion. Thank you for also making the changes to your belt corners. They look much better than the rounded corners. They are, however, now a little over-trimmed, and the buttons on this belt seems o be recessed. I believe that you kit came with two belts and that the other belt does not have the recessed buttons. If you are aiming for Centurion, we would ask that you use the other belt and trim the corners a little less, as per the below reference photo. Reference 1 Ref 2 Congratulations again. You've made a great job of your build. We hope to see you applying for Centurion soon.

Here's what the charter says about activity definitions: Operations Protocol/Membership An Active Member is defined as a member in good standing who meets the following requirements: Meets all 501st Membership Requirements (i.e. ownership of an approved costume, is over 18 years of age, etc). Has an approved membership record in the 501st Legion Membership Database Maintains active contact with their Garrison CO or GML. Active contact and participation will be confirmed during the annual Legion Census held each year during the month of October. Maintains contact information/membership record in the 501st Legion database either through their Garrison CO or GML. Participates in at least one Garrison or Legion activity per year while wearing an approved 501st costume owned by said member as recorded in the Legion Census. (One year is defined as the period from Legion Census to Legion Census). Examples of an activity include, but are not limited to conventions, charity events, or any activity designated as an official event by a coordinating administrative unit of the Legion. Members who serve in military branches are exempt from activity level requirements if their service renders them unable to meet these requirements. These Minimum Activity Level Requirements should be administered as justly and with as much common sense as possible. A member may retain active status, even if they do not meet all of the requirements listed above at the discretion of their unit Commanding Officer or Legion Command. Remember if you haven't trooped in this census year you may find yourself marked RESERVE, which will mean you will not be able to vote in the next election. From October 1st you can access the census here Note you must be registered on the main forums to participate in the census, register:here OK, it happens. You look at your Legion profile and it shows that your detachment affiliation to FISD is pending, or otherwise incorrect. Why does this happen, and what is detachment affiliation anyway, and what will FISD do about it? The answer is that detachment affiliation is only ever used once a year, and for one purpose. The only time the Legion ever uses it for anything is to determine who can run for DL and who can vote in detachment elections. That's it. Otherwise it is pretty much ignored and not used for anything. The process of validating detachment membership is cumbersome and time consuming because people use different email information between their Legion and detachment logins, and that there is no way to bulk update the rosters. For a small detachment it is not a big deal to do this manually, but for a detachment the size of FISD with hundreds and soon thousands of 501st members, it's impossible. Fortunately we have technical folk both on FISD and in the Legion web team. Once a year they take a feed from FISD's database and do a bulk update on the Legion database. This occurs right before the election cycle starts and is done once per year. Pro tips: 1) Ensure the email address you use on the Legion & FISD boards are the exact same. 2) Ensure that your FISD profile has the correct TKID. 3) If after the bulk update is complete and your profile is still not updated, and you are 100% sure your info is in sync between the two boards, then ask for to the Legion web team. They should get feedback on why this isn't working. 4) If all else fails, ping the FISD staff. Which basically means that we'll simply tell the 501st web team to bulk approve everyone To check detachment affiliation go to the 501st Mb database here then click Your Profile Data. Hope that answers everyone's questions! http://i.imgur.com/AsVHyev.jpg Every month it is really great privilege to read through and live vicariously through other Troopers field reports. These programs were designed for those who choose to take their armor above and beyond the minimum requirements for basic 501st Legion approval. It gives you the chance to show a level of dedication and pride that takes your armor closer to being as "screen accurate" as possible, without as much extra work as you may realize! It also works on giving a better look to the Legion as an entity, and you can bet others will take notice of your hard work. The 501st has a list of detailed requirements for Basic approval, (level 1), EIB, (level 2) and Centurion, (level 3) which can be found here in the Costume Reference Library, (CRL) http://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:FISD_CRL Here are a few of the questions people may be wondering about: 1. "I am a (tall/short/heavy/thin) Trooper. Can I still apply? Of course! These programs are open and encouraged for all sizes of TKs, as long as the costume is correct and meets the guidelines. There are many specific build tutorials to every option, as well as a vast network of fellow TKs on the FISD to help you out and offer suggestions. 2. "How much extra will I have to pay for extra items"? The cost is actually quite reasonable, considering the few extra supplies you will need, which are listed in the requirements area. While it may run you a little more to implement these additions to your costume, they will go a long way to improving accuracy. All needed items can be found for sale on this thread: https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/16-ongoing-sales-project-orders/ While blasters are not required for basic approval, for EIB and Centurion levels they are, and may need upgrades (also listed in the CRL). 3. "I haven't even got my kit yet, is it too early to start planning"? Actually, aiming for Centurion is easiest to do right out of the box. 4. "I have my basic TK approval, can I still get in these programs"? In a word... absolutely! 5. "Are there any "perks" to this extra work and cost"? Besides knowing that you have a great looking set of armor, the 501st and FISD believes you should be deservedly recognized for your achievement(s), and allows you to wear the appropriate embroidered "rocker" badge of rank (available for a very minimum cost) on your shirt, helmet bag, etc., as well as rank decals to put on your armor bin. You will also have access to select "challenge coin" runs, receive (free) a cool certificate for your new rank, and have your title posted below your name in your FISD signature. Plus, once you reach these levels, you will have the extra knowledge to help out those who are looking to apply as well. 6. "Is it hard to apply, and what happens then"? After basic approval, all you do is make sure your armor is up to the standards set forth in the CRL, post a thread with the required photos in the appropriate area (see below), and wait a bit for the D.O.s (Deployment Officers) to address it. (Hint: Studying other people's threads before you submit can be a GREAT help). These are also listed on the main page of the FISD site. While waiting for approval, you will get some comments from others who will offer suggestions and constructive advice to help you out. If you should need any changes, the DOs will let you know, so you can adjust accordingly. Don't be dismayed if you do need changes... it's all for your benefit! After you are approved for EIB, then you can submit for Centurion. EIB https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/19-request-expert-infantryman-status/ Centurion https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/72-request-centurion-status/ Just remember that the FISD is here to help you every step of the way with whatever other questions you may have, but if you can't seem to find what you are looking for in your research, just ask away here on the forums! With Unquestioned Loyalty Joseph Pedigo TK-10963 "justjoseph63" Deployment Officer This area lists all those who have gone above and beyond basic approval toward screen accuracy. Request your free Centurion certificate here If you see any of these Troopers around your Garrison or Squad, be sure to congratulate them! As many of you are aware, the FISD is currently in our March to 1000 program. Our goal is to reach the one thousand mark of Troopers who have earned their Expert Infantry Badge, and although we are well on our way to this goal and have just passed the 850 mark! The amount of approved submissions is increasing (over 80 this year alone) thanks to the dedication of those willing to go the "extra mile" toward screen accuracy. Here is a brief description of EIB as written by Paul (Daetrin), our founder: "Expert Infantryman status is not required for members of this detachment. It should be viewed as an optional set of requirements for those who wish to take the accuracy of their costumes to the next level, and be recognized accordingly. We're a costuming club - think of it as an award for costuming excellence and you get the picture. The requirements will not replace or supersede 501st standards, but only serve as an inspiration for the level of accuracy that can be achieved. The standards are meant to be high but achievable..." Besides the added pride you will have in your armor, those reaching this level can purchase exclusive EIB gear (patches, decals, coins etc.) and get a free certificate for your accomplishment. If you are interested or would like more information about the program head here that will help. You can also contact myself "Pretzel" or any Imperial Attaché, and we will be more than happy to assist you! 38. I would also like to mention (in case someone does not know) there are two groups/ companies working vacuum formed Rogue One TK kits. The first is NaturalBornDT and his group The DarkSide Closet and 850 Armor works. The other company is Head Shot Props (HSP). both of these kits look promising and I will be getting one or both kits. These kits should not have some of the issues noted with the fibergalss kit but they may have other issues. I will not know until I get my hands on them. So for people to be able to produce kits for us, there needs to be a standard that does not go through frequent revisions. If we make too many changes, these kits will never get made and we will be as limited as we currently are. Now that Solo has come and gone, perhaps someone will get their hands on one of the Solo TKs and we can learn a lot from it (fingers crossed). While we are talking about other kits, I contacted HSP and asked about rubber shoulder straps like the clone armor guys have as well as Rogue One versions of rubber handguards. They are looking into making these for the Rogue One TK kits and as an add on for other ROTK kits like Jim's kit. As far as CRLs are concerned, if these rubber options look the same as the existing stuff, I see no reason they would not be approved by 501st/ FISD. As long as we do not restrict them in the CRLs they should be allowed.
