  1. Hi guys, thought I'd share this as I've recently cleared as the LFL Promo Trooper and thought it'd be good to start a build thread to show my research. After being a Stunt TK for about a year I've had tons of fun wearing my ANH Stunt TK but wanted to stand out as something unique. I've always loved the Promo Trooper which is somewhat of a mystery. Although it was never featured in the film it was used heavily in the promotional run-up to the 1977 release and is still in use today in Lucasfilm merchandising. SO WHAT IS THE PROMO TROOPER? In 1976 Lucasfilm commissioned several studio shots of the stars of the film including a Stormtrooper. Presumably because of availability of the props, this particular trooper featured a few notable differences to the costume. Instead of the standard issue E-11 this Stormtrooper is seen with an SE14r blaster, probably because the screen-used Sterling rifles were in storage in the UK and not available for the shoot. The other major difference is the holster which is smaller and a different design to the ones used in the film. Apart from this handful of studio shots there is little known about the origin of this costume which was probably thrown together from parts they had after filming had completed. THE BUILD Using my current DA Props ANH Stunt TK as the base for the armour I bought a new Hero style lid, again from DA Props. The actual Promo Trooper lid is still in the LFL archives and can be seen here. It's great to see it's still in good shape although the bubble lenses have been lost... Using these photos as reference I followed every detail - even down to the gaps in the ears! THE BLASTER The SE14r blaster was a challenge to track down. My original plan to commission a 3D print was a problem as most of the files out there are based on the newer Rogue One Deathtrooper version which has more detail and looks completely different the Promo version. Finally I managed to find a resin kit on ebay although this needed a lot of work. The front barrel 'fin' was missing so this had to be added. I crafted this from a piece of ABS and glued in place. I also wanted to replace the resin scope for a real 4x20 scope which meant removing and retooling the scope mount. Really happy with the finished result - it has a really nice weight to it too. THE HOLSTER Again, this was a tricky accessory to track down although I was lucky enough to get help from Clive Barzillia (Burkbench Designs) to get one custom made. The detail on this is incredible, even down to the leather which is brown tan dyed black. Once this arrived it was just a case of adding the two extra rivets to the belt. FINISHED! Really thrilled to bits with how this turned out! I even managed to recreate one of the original studio poses below - I'm on the left and the original 1976 shot on the right! Here's some more recent shots:

  2. Alight guys and gals, I figured I would go ahead and start this before it gets too far out and have too much at once. I am starting my TK ANH build. currently waiting on AM Armor to have something available to be able to ship me a kit, super excited. But here is what I have and am doing so far. I am a big visual guy, seeing it will help me a lot more than just reading stuff alone, but in order for me to kill 2 rebels with 1 blast, I decided to make a "Duct Tape" Mannequin. Also got my TK's Boots in from, well, TK Boots. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR TK BOOTS, SEARCH NO FURTHER, THESE ARE AMAZING!!!! the fit of these boots are great and OMG the quality is something else. As far as the mannequin goes, I am going to use it to view my progress and as a working partner when I'm solo, but also as a display once we are done. The mannequin is being set up the have removable arms and legs for ease of display and setup, along with allowing me to position it while holding a blaster. Let me know what you guys think and if you have any tips on what I could work on next while waiting for the armor that would be great. Currently have my snaps, my level 3 helmet hardware & level 3 gloves with correct hand guards (Major thanks to @justjoseph63), and under suit.

  3. A seller on ebay named cassini_sunset is posting listings for armor using images from other listings and has admitted to me that he does not actually have pictures of his own product. Obviously this person is a scammer and getting ready to rip off an unsuspecting noob. Spread the word! He currently has Stormtrooper armor, bikerscout, First Order armor for sale and its all fraudulent. 2 of the images are from MTK armor listings....ITS NOT MTK ARMOR! BUYER BEWARE!!!!

  7. Seam Filling - Yokes: To fill the seams/gaps of the TK and Executioner yoke, I opted to use the same materials and process as outlined in Ukswrath's build thread. Using Devcon Plastic Welder II, an epoxy gun and associated tips, I applied the glue into the gaps left from both yoke assemblies. After letting that cure for a few hours (I believe it sets much faster than that, I was just busy doing other things) I applied the DLF1 and used the same process as described in the above post. Detachment Leader Provost Marshall Deployment Officer CRL Updates Detachment Affiliation Pre Approval Forum Hall of Fame Just For Laughs In Focus In The Media Challenge Coins Notable Troops Imperial Attaché Program EIB & Centurion: What do these terms mean? Advanced Tactics Awards EIB - The March To 1000 Merchandise Public Relations Follow FISD System Upgrades Forums were upgraded - thanks to our star system admins - without a hitch. However, we are seeing peaks at certain times of the day where the server is over-loaded for our user volumes. The Legion web team will start working on moving FISD to their servers next quarter. This should allow FISD to seamlessly scale up/down based on demand, or so we're told. Also, kudos to Harbinger/Brien for updating all of our icons for groups, awards, etc. so that they are consistent, can scale for use in merchadise, etc. The new images look much nicer for sure, don't you think? First Order News FISD was created to serve the needs for *all* Legion stormtroopers. We (the staff) got feedback that the FOTK troopers were not seeing as much attention as would be expected given their impact on the fan base from the last two movies. In the second half of last year we ensured that all FOTK CRLs were completed and L2/L3 requirements were added and best of build threads were highlighted numerous times. For 2018 we are building on that foundation to show the love for the FOTKs out there. Lots of new merch for instance has been added: 10th Anniversary Path, inclusion in the EI award logo, a brand new FISD FOTK coin and joint OT/FO bin decals. Whew! But, it's worth it as FOTKs are now the second most common TK costume designation, even more than the ESB, ANH-Hero, or HWT. Pretty surprising eh? My take is that the biggest barrier to FOTKs being even more ubiquitous is how hard it is to get suits in volume. Over time the suits should get easier to build as well, which should help new members create these iconic suits. For Phasma, we did update the TFA CRL and have just released a new Captain Phasma coin, however the TLJ CRL is still taking time as getting photos of the parts is a bit behind. If you are anyone you know has a good TLJ Phasma, please liaise with me & Misty, who is currently working on getting this to *done*. One last thanks to both Paul and Marcus for stepping up and enduring the process. Finally congrats to Paul for a successful campaign to lead us under the FISD flag for another year. There is one thing that I would like to address to our membership. In the ongoing effort to make the FISD an amazing place to come visit and hang out, if any member for ANY reason feels that they are being bullied, picked on, or talked down to, please contact the Provost team or any command staff member that you feel comfortable talking to. I am a very open person and I really want everyone to love coming to the FISD. I will always make myself available to any member who has any issue with anything. I would also be willing to keep something confidential if the need arises. I want everyone to feel the same passion for this place that I do. With Unquestioned Loyalty Tony Jobe TK-10116 ukswrath FISD Deployment Officer & With Unquestioned Loyalty Andrew Franke TK-11469 Sly11 FISD Deployment Officer TFA Phasma CRL has been updated. For Those Of You That Had Issues At Elections Time OK, it happens each year just before Legion Elections that you can't vote for DL of FISD (or other detachments), you look at your Legion profile and it shows that your detachment affiliation to FISD is pending, or otherwise incorrect. Why does this happen, and what is detachment affiliation anyway, and what will FISD do about it? The answer is that detachment affiliation is only ever used once a year, and for one purpose. The only time the Legion ever uses it for anything is to determine who can run for DL and who can vote in detachment elections. That's it. Otherwise it is pretty much ignored and not used for anything. The process of validating detachment membership is cumbersome and time consuming because people use different email information between their Legion and detachment logins, and that there is no way to bulk update the rosters. For a small detachment it is not a big deal to do this manually, but for a detachment the size of FISD with hundreds and soon thousands of 501st members, it's impossible. Legion web team run a bulk update just before elections each year, there are times that some may have been missed then they would need to be added manually. 1) Ensure the email address you use on the Legion & FISD boards are the exact same. 2) Ensure that your FISD profile has the correct TKID. 3) If after the bulk update is complete and your profile is still not updated, and you are 100% sure your info is in sync between the two boards, then ask for to the Legion web team. They should get feedback on why this isn't working. 4) If all else fails, ping the FISD staff. Which basically means that we'll simply tell the 501st web team to bulk approve everyone To check if you are affiliated to a specific detachment go to the 501st forum, look on the left side menu, click on the Member DB link, then Your Profile Data, go to the bottom of the page to Your Unit Affiliation and make sure First Imperial Stormtrooper Detachment (Approved) is there, if it is there and marked as (Pending) you can contact the detachment leader of FISD and ask for it to be approved. If you find it is not there at all or any other detachment you should be affiliated too, then contact your GML (garrison membership liaison) and ask to be affiliated them. NOTE to stay affiliated with a detachment and to qualify to participate in detachment elections you need to have logged into our forums at least once during the previous year. UPDATE As we move FISD to the Legion's servers, this process should be automated and the issues fixed, time will undoubtable tell. The FISD is pleased to announce the addition of a new area in the Advanced Tactics forum dedicated to those ready to submit for basic 501st TK approval. This section will allow future Troopers the opportunity to submit photos of their completed build to be reviewed by the Staff, Imperial Attaches and others in preparation for forwarding it to their GML for approval. Any and all advice/suggestions given will be specific, constructive, helpful and respectful. Please note that this program will NOT take the place of your local GML, as Detachments are not chartered for costume approval and can not override a GMLs decision, but is instead a peer review program designed to help you look your best and offer guidance and positive feedback. You will have the opportunity to ask questions about your completed armor, weapons (if applicable), accessories, etc. and get accurate information from the experts here at the FISD.. the definitive home of TKs worldwide. Are you an approved TK that spends more time on the boards than the average Trooper? Do you enjoy using your knowledge to help out future and existing Troopers? If so, we would like to invite you to join the Imperial Attaché program! Members of the I.A. team are chosen to help out not only those here on the boards, but on a local level as well. Our aim is to have at least one in each and every Garrison, Squad and Outpost in the entire legion to be the eyes and ears of the FISD on a local level. A suggested level of EIB or above is preferred, as part of the duties include assisting those aiming for levels 2 and 3, but is not a requirement. Being active on the boards on a regular basis , welcoming new members and helping out where you can is, though. Some of the benefits: 1. Access to exclusive Attaché merch., including patches, etc. 2. Having the Imperial Attaché title under your name. 3. Being a part of the team that welcomes new and prospective members of the FISD. 4. Being the "go-to" person in your Garrison, Squad or Outpost. 5. Exclusive access to the Attaché HQ area, Imperial Propaganda Machine (newsletter) and merchandise discussions. We are currently in need of Attaches in many units, especially International Garrisons/Squads and Outposts. These programs were designed for those who choose to take their armor above and beyond the minimum requirements for basic 501st Legion approval. It gives you the chance to show a level of dedication and pride that takes your armor closer to being as "screen accurate" as possible, without as much extra work as you may realize! It also works on giving a better look to the Legion as an entity, and you can bet others will take notice of your hard work. The 501st has a list of detailed requirements for Basic approval, (level 1), EIB, (level 2) and Centurion, (level 3) which can be found here in the Costume Reference Library, (CRL) http://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:FISD_CRL Here are a few of the questions people may be wondering about: 1. "I am a (tall/short/heavy/thin) Trooper. Can I still apply? Of course! These programs are open and encouraged for all sizes of TKs, as long as the costume is correct and meets the guidelines. There are many specific build tutorials to every option, as well as a vast network of fellow TKs on the FISD to help you out and offer suggestions. 2. "How much extra will I have to pay for extra items"? The cost is actually quite reasonable, considering the few extra supplies you will need, which are listed in the requirements area. While it may run you a little more to implement these additions to your costume, they will go a long way to improving accuracy. All needed items can be found for sale on this thread: https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/16-ongoing-sales-project-orders/ While blasters are not required for basic approval, for EIB and Centurion levels they are, and may need upgrades (also listed in the CRL). 3. "I haven't even got my kit yet, is it too early to start planning"? Actually, aiming for Centurion is easiest to do right out of the box. 4. "I have my basic TK approval, can I still get in these programs"? In a word... absolutely! 5. "Are there any "perks" to this extra work and cost"? Besides knowing that you have a great looking set of armor, the 501st and FISD believes you should be deservedly recognized for your achievement(s), and allows you to wear the appropriate embroidered "rocker" badge of rank (available for a very minimum cost) on your shirt, helmet bag, etc., as well as rank decals to put on your armor bin. You will also have access to select "challenge coin" runs, receive (free) a cool certificate for your new rank, and have your title posted below your name in your FISD signature. Plus, once you reach these levels, you will have the extra knowledge to help out those who are looking to apply as well. 6. "Is it hard to apply, and what happens then"? After basic approval, all you do is make sure your armor is up to the standards set forth in the CRL, post a thread with the required photos in the appropriate area (see below), and wait a bit for the D.O.s (Deployment Officers) to address it. (Hint: Studying other people's threads before you submit can be a GREAT help). These are also listed on the main page of the FISD site. While waiting for approval, you will get some comments from others who will offer suggestions and constructive advice to help you out. If you should need any changes, the DOs will let you know, so you can adjust accordingly. Don't be dismayed if you do need changes... it's all for your benefit! After you are approved for EIB, then you can submit for Centurion. EIB https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/19-request-expert-infantryman-status/ Centurion https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/72-request-centurion-status/ Note: You will see some suggestions in the existing submissions/approval requests that, while not actually part of the CRL, are highly suggested items, (for your benefit), such as "flat-head screw heads on the TD (thermal detonator) should be painted black" for Centurion, etc. Those small details all add up to closer screen accuracy. Just remember that the FISD is here to help you every step of the way with whatever other questions you may have, but if you can't seem to find what you are looking for in your research, just post the question, (or PM justjoseph63) and best of luck on your build! Our goal is to reach the one thousand mark of Troopers who have earned their Expert Infantry Badge, and although we are well on our way to this goal and have just passed the 800 mark! The amount of approved submissions is increasing (over 80 this year alone) thanks to the dedication of those willing to go the "extra mile" toward screen accuracy. Here is a brief description of EIB as written by Paul (Daetrin), our founder: "Expert Infantryman status is not required for members of this detachment. It should be viewed as an optional set of requirements for those who wish to take the accuracy of their costumes to the next level, and be recognized accordingly. We're a costuming club - think of it as an award for costuming excellence and you get the picture. The requirements will not replace or supersede 501st standards, but only serve as an inspiration for the level of accuracy that can be achieved. The standards are meant to be high but achievable..." Besides the added pride you will have in your armor, those reaching this level can purchase exclusive EIB gear (patches, decals, coins etc.) and get a free certificate for your accomplishment. 16. Newstime!!! Had a few hours to spare today to do some more work on the blaster, and I made some decent progress After a trip to the local home depot I increased and upgraded my arsenal: Insulation tape was a bit expensive and since the only thing i needed it for was masking and the d-ring, I just went for cheap multi-coloured adhesive tape. Due to the budget surplus I also got some more spray paint as well as some smaller files which I thought would probably be very useful - and I wasn't wrong. But first things first... Finished the end cap: Finished the breakthrough in the folding stock: (This is where the files were used the first time, and they did well! Instead of clearing the whole thing out, I basically carved out the bottom part, but left some resin in the top corner where most blaster builders apparently add some green stuff - probably looks a lot better this way, but I'm a lazy trooper and went for the easier way. I also weathered the scope so I can now put it aside and work on some other things before finally mounting it I also worked a bit on the trigger so I will hopefully be able to finish that soon - some other smaller things were done which I just didn't take pictures of; whatever With this project finally taking shape, of course I am already thinking about other things... Aaaaaand since I managed to get the girlfriend hooked on Star Wars, aaaaaaaand with the armor hopefully coming in soon I will not stop working anytime soon. Especially since it's just sooooo much fun Sadly she has decided to pick the wrong side, but putting together a costume which actually consists of real clothes will be a totally different challenge, and I'm certainly looking forward to that! That was it for today, Freddy out

  20. Guys - this is why we do these polls. When one of the "other" types of TE or non-TE derived armor gets a lot of votes, we dig through the data to find out if someone is big enough to fit in. Or, if they get only a few votes, we may take them off. If you want to support an armor maker, why not show off a build thread, or a troop thread, or have those with that armor apply for EI/Centurion? If it's that huge, then one would think they'd have shown up somewhere, no?

  21. People are very passionate about their armor. I’m passionate about MTK even though he is not a vetted source. And I may be in the US but I know about Andy. I was very close to purchasing his Tie kit because I thought it looked very nice. But shipping to the US made me go a different route. I wouldn’t hesitate to say that he has top quality stuff. I’ve never seen it in person but it appears that way and I have read people say they are very happy with the quality. I also think that him going by 3 names also hurts him because people don’t always see the correlation. But anyway like I mentioned, this is not a list designed to assist people in purchasing armor and to guide them in any way. The list was made to collect data on what types of armor people are wearing. Probably one of the reasons he is not on the list is that we don’t typically see build threads, EIB applications, or Centurion Applications for the armor. It doesn’t mean that there aren’t people wearing the armor out there and people don’t love it. But when it boils down I’m sure there are many more people wearing TM or RS which is why they are listed by name. i hope this helps. Just because something is not listed it doesn’t mean that people should not purchase it or it is not high quality.

  22. Looking good. I actually think that trimming yourself is good for two reasons - first, you get used to working with the ABS, and second, you can size to ideally fit your body. The bonus is you end up with a bunch of scrap for ABS paste if you need it! Oh, and you save money

  24. Hi all Long time no see [emoji4] After rough trimming most of the kit parts back in August I kinda hit a mental wall/funk. Changing my approach may help. Instead of trying for a perfect Centurion level suit first time, I’m going to try just building for a fun, basic suit using the horrible Anovos Velcro and all [emoji1]lol. I’d rather just get out there trooping; I can always upgrade later. (Somewhat ironically this is the approach I advocate at work - I really should listen to my own advice occasionally lol) Diatribe aside... Today was right bicep final trimming day - yup, funk broken [emoji1303] Anticipating a Darwin Award for rigging the sander and rotary tool in a desktop vice, I though “safety first”. Return Edges reduced to 3mm (more or less). The rotary tool is awesome for removing excess plastic. A quick hand sand with 150 grit took off flash. I’ve got about 1.5cm clearance at the top, 3cm at the bottom. I’m contemplating tapering the bicep, but the piece is passable and fits. I may just glue and come back to this later. Speaking of glue... is this enough? [emoji6][emoji23] Sent from my DH77 using Tapatalk

  25. Love hearing that from everyone in the group. seems the best part (and often the hardest) is everyone has their own way of doing everything, so it allows me to take several different approaches to an issue and work out what may be best for me. but at the other end it can feel like the flag on a rope in a game of tug-o-war. pulled back and forth with no clear direction. Havent had too much issue as of yet, but im sure once that BBB gets here, ill be typing like crazy lol. Luckily I have already made contact with my local Garrison and they have already been a huge help!

  26. Collection looks superb. Really nicely presented. Nothing wrong with that. Many people, including me, do the same. It still requires skill to get the line neat and tidy. Great job.

  27. Seam Filling-Arms, Shin Boxes, AB/Kidney: With initial assembly mostly completed, it was time to fill in the seams that shouldn't be there and smooth them out in preparation for painting. To do so I used PPG DFL1, a one process automotive spot putty. I strapped on my ventilator and got to work. The application process was pretty simple, apply just enough to the putty spreader and apply it evenly along the seams. Try your best to thin it out as it will make the sanding down process easier. I then left it to set overnight. NOTE: This is the first time I have ever used something like this so it may look a little messy to those more experienced with the substance. *cough* Tony *cough* The next day I began to sand down the seams with a bucket of water and Wet/Dry 220 grit sand paper initially and then W/D 400 grit for the fine tuning. My goal was to sand it down such so that A) There was no seam and B ) I could run my finger across the surface and not feel any bumps. After I was satisfied with the work, I sanded down the rest of the pieces with W/D 400 grit sand paper and taped off the areas where I will affix the greeblies. Recall that I had to fix the upper forearms with some shims, as such I needed to fill in those parts as well. Here they are after being sanded down.

  28. started on the vent lines tonight. I decided to completely freehand this, I used a number 1 synthetic brush Starting with the left side first and using the above picture from cableguy i went to work. Not to bad, I will clean up with a finer brush and some grey paint to fix the lines. Now that I'm comfortable on to the right! Oops too confident....once dry I'll repaint with grey and tackle it again. Moved on the the back traps The left side: Right side: I touched up my Hovi tips just a tad from installing the mesh screen. It simple pushes into place, and than I too a soldering iron gave it a quick poke where I wanted it to be and easy to install. Just a bit of paint touch to do now. I gently and carefully touched up the inside edge of the Hovi tips to give it more depth to it. Before touch up: After touch up: So far I placed my vent stickers on the bucket to get a general idea of where to paint my vent stripes. I think I placed them a bit too low and they need to be brought up the right side of the bucket more so than the left Right vent stickers placement: Left side vent sticker placement:

  30. Thanks!! lol That's too cute, kids are great! Thank you again. I'll share a couple shots if anyone cares to see, mostly ArtFX+ statues with a few other things mixed in. Thank you! Although I feel like I've slightly cheated with my process for the traps and tears. I've been penciling in the outlines, then painting in the black portions, then filling in with gray. My freehand skills are not that good at all. lol

  31. Michael "Highway" Culp, TK-1636, assisted me with my TK build in Arizona. He assisted me with the process of joining the 501st (DuneSea Garrision--Arizona) and modified the armor to standard. His detail and knowledge in Star Wars greatly assisted me in the process. He put in long hours and got the armor done within a seemly fast period. Thanks for all your hours of help Mike!

  33. Not sure where he got his. However, the custom saber shop has this t track. Hadn’t realized it until I ordered some. His appears to be supplied from BlasTech. Mine came with a BlasTech card in the package. Awesome rubber grips. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  34. Done, though actually you're the first person to bring this up. I've never seen that armor make in person, at least here in WA state in the US.

  35. Hi Team. As RWA is a vetted vendor, (and very popular here in the UK (and abroad)), would it be possible at this stage to update the list? Best wishes, Dan

  36. Well, time to dust off this thread and get my build back on track. It has been way too long. I spent the weekend fixing countless broken Photobucket image links here, Carolinagarrison.net and Bikerscout.net for both mine and my son's threads. What a mess, fortunately I had backups of everything. I created an account on imgur and moved everything there. Anyway, I am really hoping to get both mine and my son's builds done by Dragoncon this year. I am looking forward to getting back into the build and I am sure I will have lots of questions over the next 6 months

  37. I thought I'd try to update my thread a little bit more than I did in the last week, so here is a little continuation of the snap bases post I made at the beginning of the week. I measured and positioned all my snap bases on the chest/back/ab/kidney/butt and am now waiting for some magnets (ran out of magnets as many things were glued at the same time) to glue them all in place before I start making the straps that will hold them all in place. For positioning, I started by looking at ukswrath indicated in his AM build post, and then adapted a little bit for myself. I mainly positioned all my snap bases at about 10mm from the edge of the part they are on (except for the chest piece, of course, which is something more like 110mm from the bottom edge). I started gluing a few ones on the back already, but I didn't take any pics yet - will post more of that stuff later.

  39. For basic approval they can be made of Nomex, rubber, leather or simulated leather, but they cannot have any markings on them. The ones I recommended in an earlier post here (link below) are perfect. If you are (hopefully) aiming for higher levels, (EI and Centurion) they will need to be rubber. -----------

  40. Had a few extra unexpected minutes this evening, so I filled in the right ear with grey:

  41. The curvature of the armor is key and your correct most shins I'm seeing coming from Anovos, though they appear to still be mismarked are consistent in design. If trimmed at the trim lines the inner halves are longer. I need to update my build thread to reflect this

  42. Took a few pictures. I have 2 display cases and a binder with coins. There are more pages in the binder, but you get the idea. I am small time compared to some other guys. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk

  45. Oh, I forgot to mention something about the initial fitting... I'm not too proud to say that the first thing I tested was the fit of the ab piece to the kidney piece - to make sure this thing would fit around my beer gut. It did! So I celebrated with a Costco bag of Doritos and a couple pints of Guinness. My wife continues to shake her head.

  46. Yes, it would be a lot of work to undo if you do overlap assembly. I do think however that those who want to become centurions do their homework ahead and know to use cover strip assembly where applicable. The scuffed boots requirement is something I'm not agreeing on and have mentioned it, so maybe during the next revision that'll change. I don't know. I'm not the sole man in charge.
