Putting the taller brackets in the chest worked a bit to move the shoulders forward, but not enough. This morning I moved the sew in snaps forward until they were almost touching the chest armour and that did the trick as much as it could with the size of shoulders that came within kit. Looks way better. And no, I haven't taken photos yet. While looking at the new placement of the shoulders I noticed a rather large gap between my back and the back armour. I pulled off the 2" white elastic and re-glued it on tighter. I now need to shorten the side with the snap closure. I will drill out the snap from the elastic, fold it over once and install a new snap. Easier than removing the snap from the back armour. I will do this tomorrow afternoon and take pics once the glue is dry. Until then I will work on my armour bin. I got some Star Wars fabric the other day and quilt batting as a backer to pad it out. I got the small Husky bin from Home Depot. I painted the logo out until I decide what to do with this spot. There is actually quite a bit of room in this bin. Trimming and fitting the batting.2 points

These two pieces are not that accurate in this blaster kit. On a real Sterling both of them have the exact same shape, are a lot thinner and installed in a different angle. I guess DoopyDoo's have modified theirs for stability or trooping purpose. The good thing is, you get a bigger surface for glueing. Regarding the gap to the front sight cage: Looks like this got reduced by enhancing the ends with green stuff. As the same has been done on your ejector port guard, I would suggest to just leave it as it is now. Not worth risking to damage or break them - unless you want every part of your build to be as accurate as possible. But then there are still the wrong thickness and angles. I wouldn't mind...2 points

Wow, I had to look up the "Hippo Birdie" thing...hehe I thought you were speaking in some clever-internet-meme-speak...turns out it was a "Happy Birthday"! hehe, thanks! As for clamps and magnets, I ordered more and now I have 22 clamps and 75 magnets. I hope this will be enough. -Dana2 points

so removed a couple of mm. And love the difference . Bottom coverstrip now glueing on forearm . Will show pics when done. Right forearm replacement arrived from ross this morning . Other was good but after trimming all flashing . Was rather tight on upper part of forearm and didnt want bigger cover atrips and wanted to keep butt joints . So plan is to use a couple of mm of the flashing and keep the 15mm cover strips and butt joints Right thigh done with exception of trimming the cover strip a little and internal cover strips and a clean up Left shoulder bell and bicep now has elastic on and fits well. After a little hot water bath . Just needs a clean up and Just trying to stop the bridge webbing pulling ever so slightly Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk1 point

Great job so far! Like the original movie helmets the back end of the right ear has more of a gap because of its weird shape, but you did a great job eliminating that gap Mark (AP)1 point

If I may, ‘clearable’ and looking realistic are two different things. People have managed to get cleared for 501st use with this armour, but that doesn’t automatically mean that it is good armour. Clearance is more about how it fits the wearer and whether the construction methods are correct - not whether the mouldings are screen accurate. My personal opinion is that the helmet and chest plate look very different from those seen on screen. That would be my reason to look else where. With buy one get one free, they’re dirt cheap and a low budget way into costuming. At normal price, you can get more accurate for less money. Just depends if you want cheap or more accurate. Just my opinion. :-) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

Glad you have Tino to shed light on the guards. It will still make for an excellent blaster, I have no doubt Keep up the fine work1 point

Thabks for the input Tino. I must say, I'm very tempted to leave it being so close to completion. To be fair, most of my Doopies kit was in pretty good shape on arrival I thought, and it was really just the two guards that needed fixing as the ends were broken off. There's always the next blaster though! Sent from my SM-G925F using Tapatalk1 point

Thanks Jesse! I'm glad it paid off, could have gone very very wrong haha As for the flash/ejection guard... certainly wasn't intentional! I thought they looked pretty much the same size on first inspection, but one piece seemed to be a better fit around the ejection port than it did at the nozzle, so I placed them based on that. It was only when I installed the front sight that I thought the sight and flashguard looked awfully close together. I can see in the reference picture you sent too that there is a small gap there too. Question is whether it's worth the move. There'd be more space between the sight, but the ejection.port guard wouldn't have the nice fit... What do you think? I suppose I could try and reshape the other guard... I'm calling my suit done. Friday or Saturday it's off to the Trusted Friends who can help me get everything aligned for the photo shoot. Getting everything set nicely isn't something I can do on my own, and right now I feel as though velcro is better than rivet or snaps as it is more adjustable. Once I have the sizes and positions of straps figured out, then I will replace them with sturdier options. Hmmm. We have Build Parties. Maybe I should clear out part of my work room and host a Photo Shoot.1 point
-
Fit on the rest is looking much better now too with the back gap closed up. How long is the white strap between the snaps? if you keep that a bit shorter it will give it less room to pull out for the shoulder bells. If you're really stuck some hot water baths might allow you to flare them out a little to make more room. Don't use a heat gun, it's too harsh and will destroy the armour if you're not very very careful.1 point

Oh yeah, it’s not going anywhere. If anything, I’ll probably rig up a hinged EVA plate to make it easier to show others. Also good to know on the one-battery pack. I don’t have a power meter to verify anything, but when I tested the level of air being pushed through with one versus two fans on one batter, I really didn’t detect any noticeable difference. I am super impressed with how far you have come with this !!! You truly have set the bar for Rubies conversions. I also, am curious if this will pass for Centurion, as I was told "no" on mine during my EIB application, but then I have not done near as much as you have. {However, the CRL only points out the power cylinders and the d-rings as requirements for ANH blasters at the EIB level (which passed), but for Centurion the only remark is that Hasbro blasters are not allowed.....so who knows?} Personally I MUCH prefer your final product to any of the Hyperfirm or Protarian molded blasters. The filled in scope rails especially bother me, plus you have a real cut-out for your spring and charging handle!!! Again, GREAT JOB, and I will be following this thread for a while, not only to find out about the Centurion question, but because I have an extra Rubies that I am going to convert following you excellent example!! Thank you for this build thread!!1 point

But he was a fighter… He was our light. He made our life better.” The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge went viral and raised $115 million during two months in 2014 — money that went largely to fund research. And Anthony Senerchia played a significant role in getting it started. Many members took part after the 501st legion was nominated by JJ Abrams. Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire (Team) Back in the day when the 501st was smaller, we actually tried to incentivize people to get out and troop, especially in costumes that were not as popular as the TK. MEPD was the first detachment to create “patrols” to help build some esprit de corp amongst people who troop together. The reason why Fire Teams can’t use any 501st or FISD imagery in the logos they create is because they are not official units at all, and only official units can use official branding. It also means that there are no such thing as “official” Fire Team events either, as only Garrisons and Squads can organize events. In this regard, Fire Teams, patrols, etc. are really akin to the Quilted Trooper Brigade, the Muppet Troopers, or the League of Extraordinary Troopers. Rock-on Troopers, Rock-on and a salute to you all! With Unquestioned Loyalty Aaron Gibson TK99725 "Pyrates" Imperial Propaganda Department So what exactly are EIB (Expert Infantry Badge) and Centurion levels? These programs were designed for those who choose to take their armor above and beyond the minimum requirements for basic 501st Legion approval. It gives you the chance to show a level of dedication and pride that takes your armor closer to being as "screen accurate" as possible, without as much extra work as you may realize. (You may surprise yourself with what you are capable of)! It also works on giving a better look to the Legion as an entity, and you can bet others will take notice of your hard work. The 501st has a list of detailed requirements for Basic approval, (level 1), EIB, (level 2) and Centurion, (level 3) which can be found here in the Costume Reference Library, (CRL) http://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:FISD_CRL Here are a few of the questions people may be wondering about: 1. "I am a (tall/short/heavy/thin) trooper. Can I still apply? Of course! These programs are open and encouraged for all sizes of TKs, as long as the costume is correct and meets the guidelines. There are many specific build tutorials to every option, as well as a vast network of fellow TKs on the FISD to help you out and offer suggestions. 2. "How much extra will I have to pay for extra items"? The cost is actually quite reasonable, considering the few extra supplies you will need, which are listed in the requirements area. While it may run you a little more to implement these additions to your costume, they will go a long way to improving accuracy. All needed items can be found for sale on this thread: https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/16-ongoing-sales-project-orders/ While blasters are not required for basic approval, for EIB and Centurion levels they are, and may need upgrades (also listed in the CRL). 3. "I haven't even got my kit yet, is it too early to start planning"? Actually, aiming for Centurion is easiest to do right out of the box. 4. "I have my basic TK approval, can I still get in these programs"? In a word... absolutely! 5. "Are there any "perks" to this extra work and cost"? Besides knowing that you have a great looking set of armor, the 501st and FISD believes you should be deservedly recognized for your achievement(s), and allows you to wear the appropriate embroidered "rocker" badge of rank (available for a very minimum cost) on your shirt, helmet bag, etc., as well as rank decals to put on your armor bin. You will also have access to select "challenge coin" runs, receive (free) a cool certificate for your new rank, and have your title posted below your name in your FISD signature. Plus, once you reach these levels, you will have the extra knowledge to help out those who are looking to apply as well. 6. "Is it hard to apply, and what happens then"? After basic approval, all you do is make sure your armor is up to the standards set forth in the CRL, post a thread with the required photos in the appropriate area (see below), and wait a bit for the D.O.s (Deployment Officers) to address it. (Hint: Studying other people's threads before you submit can be a GREAT help). These are also listed on the main page of the FISD site. While waiting for approval, you will get some comments from others who will offer suggestions and constructive advice to help you out. If you should need any changes, the DOs will let you know, so you can adjust accordingly. Don't be dismayed if you do need changes... it's all for your benefit! After you are approved for EIB, then you can submit for Centurion. EIB https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/19-request-expert-infantryman-status/ Centurion https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/72-request-centurion-status/ Note: You will see some suggestions in the existing submissions/approval requests that, while not actually part of the CRL, are highly suggested items, (for your benefit), such as "flat-head screw heads on the TD (thermal detonator) should be painted black" for Centurion, etc. Those small details all add up to closer screen accuracy. Just remember that the FISD is here to help you every step of the way with whatever other questions you may have, but if you can't seem to find what you are looking for in your research, just post the question, (or PM justjoseph63) and best of luck on your build! A new monthly item that lists a few unusual facts about the SW franchise. This month: ""Noises off" 1. The sound of the Imperial Star Destroyer was made by manipulating the sound of a broken air conditioner. 2. The sounds for lightsabers is a mix of the hum of a 35mm movie projector on idle and the feedback and the feedback produced by passing a stripped microphone cable near a television. 3. The language used by the Jawas is Zulu, sped up electronically. 4. Greedo is actually speaking Quechua, an indigenous language of the Andes (played backwards). 5. Chewbacca's voice was a mix of large animals, (mostly bears). 6. R2-D2's "beeps and boops" were made by electronically manipulating human (mostly babies) voices. 7. The alien language spoken by Garindan (the Mos Eisley spy with the long nose) is actually the processed voice of John Wayne. The Last Jedi For those that are unaware the 501st has been given approval by Disney/LFL to organise troops for the premier of The Last Jedi. There are a couple of rules, as always please make sure the host of the event does not advertise your appearance, BUT you are welcome to advertise on your own / garrison / squad's social media. Also for The Last Jedi you can only visit cinemas, no other retail locations. Official correspondence from Disney/LFL · December 14-21: The Last Jedi Theatrical Events Hi all, We wanted to send the club leads some advance notice of two events that will be open to costumed appearances by fans without prior approval from Disney or Lucasfilm – the Battlefront II launch, spanning the weekend of November 17-19 (give or take a day or two) and the release of The Last Jedi, during the week of December 14-21. For the Battlefront II launch, we’re asking that the appearances be limited to those retailers who are selling Battlefront II and that costumed appearances not be used in the advertising for the event. Costumed fans who wish to participate at special events surrounding the launch of The Last Jedi between December 14-21, 2017 may do so at accommodating theaters without seeking approval from Disney/Lucasfilm. Like the BFII launch, we are asking that costumed appearances not be used in the advertising for the event. We are leaving it to the individual fans and fan groups to independently organize around these events as they see fit, so if you or your group will require a special area for changing in/out of costume, etc., please reach out to the theater management/staff to make those arrangements. PLEASE NOTE that costumed appearances for The Last Jedi premieres are restricted to theatrical venues only and do not include general retailers, toy stores, restaurants, etc. We want to thank all our fans for their continued support of Star Wars and look forward to celebrating more exciting movie releases with you in the years to come! *NOTE* Always follow your garrison/squad's guidelines when in comes to organising Disney/LFL promotional troops. Want Your Troop to be Included? Post your troop report in the Field Training Exercises section here Those with troop logs please post a separate troop report as it is easier to link too. If so, we would like to invite you to join the Imperial Attache program! Members of the I.A. team are chosen to help out not only those here on the boards, but on a local level as well. Our aim is to have at least one in each and every Garrison, Squad and Outpost in the entire legion to be the eyes and ears of the FISD on a local level. A suggested level of EIB or above is preferred, as part of the duties include assisting those aiming for levels 2 and 3, but is not a requirement. Being active on the boards on a regular basis , welcoming new members and helping out where you can is, though. Some of the benefits: 1. Access to exclusive Attache merch., including patches, etc. 2. Having the Imperial Attache title under your name. 3. Being a part of the team that welcomes new and prospective members of the FISD. 4. Being the "go-to" person in your Garrison, Squad or Outpost. 5. Exclusive access to the Attache HQ area, Imperial Propaganda Machine (newsletter) and merchandise discussions. The amount of approved submissions is increasing (over 80 this year alone) thanks to the dedication of those willing to go the "extra mile" toward screen accuracy. Here is a brief description of EIB as written by Paul (Daetrin), our founder: "Expert Infantryman status is not required for members of this detachment. It should be viewed as an optional set of requirements for those who wish to take the accuracy of their costumes to the next level, and be recognized accordingly. We're a costuming club - think of it as an award for costuming excellence and you get the picture. The requirements will not replace or supersede 501st standards, but only serve as an inspiration for the level of accuracy that can be achieved. The standards are meant to be high but achievable..." Besides the added pride you will have in your armor, those reaching this level can purchase exclusive EIB gear (patches, decals, coins (coming soon) etc.) and get a free certificate for your accomplishment. If you are interested or would like more information about the program head here that will help. You can also contact myself or any Imperial Attaché, and we will be more than happy to assist you! I find it laughable that this seller states that his TK armor was used for Simon Cowell's dancing Stormtroopers. They looked awful!1 point

Hi there. Been busy with this project last two days. I think that successfully finishing my other side project (the nn-14 blaster for my daughter, also on this forums, you shouldn't miss it! [emoji13]) has left me a hole hard to fill and I'm trying to overcompensate with doble work on this. I am eager to share this tasty and funny update with you all (it's already April's fool?). I must confess that last night I fell asleep thinking about how to make the free-lock letters on the trigger group pin... there's not an easy answer for making this letters . First I thought making them casting liquid plastic on a clay mold, but then the letters would have come out mirrored... This morning, just as I opened my eyes an answer came to me... as illuminated by the midiclorians themselves: "use the... Soup!!!" Of course, pasta letters! That pasta letters used for the soups. So, with this idea on mind I went to different supermarkets till a got two different brands of pasta letters, little differences between their letters, in shape, size and fonts. This afternoon I searched for the some viable letters. If you ever asked, the "k" is by far the most difficult letter to find in a common package and this is a fact. And as scarce as they are, not many of them look fine enough. After I selected a couple of each letter needed, I sanded them flat very carefully on a sand paper. Then a test on the piece. It was tricky to glue them, due to how tiny and light they are. I used a school transparent glue, that allow repositioning and is slow curing. The c and the k broke a couple of time and had to take some more. Once cured, I covered them all with a light layer of CA superglue, the one that is applied with a brush... to seal the pasta letters and keep them in place forever. An unexpected effect occurred then, luckily a happy one since I hadn't make any previous tests on how CA glue interacts with pasta. Somehow it melted the letters a little bit, making the much smother than before. I think now they look much better. Well, that's all for now. I know my letters are not the right size (just a tiny tiny bit bigger) or the right font, but Hey! I've got letters on my rubie's handle! How cool is that?! I've to take a few days off on vacation. Sadly, building the new contour with putty will have to wait until we get back. Hope to get back here soon with news. Stay tuned. Thanks for reading. Enviado desde mi iPhone utilizando Tapatalk1 point
