  1. Been a fan for a long time, so decided now its time to be a storm trooper, still an imposing sight for this man child, based in Trim, Co Meath but from Dublin originally Also a modelmaker/painter so always making, modifying and weathering stuff, mainly model railways, but also involved in organising of Ireland biggest model exhibition Will be a ESB TK eventually with 501st approval, will be taking my time for now, walking into this, not running Thanks to @welshchris77 for the recommendation

  2. Very good. Many troopers use the standard foam padding and end up with the helmet sitting too high above the shoulders. By trying different thicknesses you will be able to lower your helmet as much as possible. As a side effect, this will also improve your vision through the helmet eyes - especially on short distances right in front of you. Try it.

  3. You are correct Tom CRL discussion and the work that Nicker has done will be up for discussion next month (August) as I am currently tied up sorting out our member database with legion. A first draft exists along with some basic trial photos, but it needs to go through our full review process with staff and extended staff before I can present it to the LMO team for final approval. Nicker also needs to have high quality photos taken that are suitable for the CRL, so there is a reasonable amount of work to still go into this before it becomes a reality and our next new to legion costume.

  4. It is finally time. My daughter is 6 and the right size to redo her trooper armor from when she was 3. I originally got on of those 48" trooper toys and used it to make her armor. Had to downsize a ton of it and it didn't really fit all that well since she was too small. Now she's finally big enough and asked to be Captain Phasma for Halloween. Here is where I finished 3 years ago. Sent from my SM-G991U using Tapatalk

  6. It's actually centered on the shoulder. I guess I'll move it forward and see if that remedies the issue. Thanks! Sent from my SM-G998U using Tapatalk

  9. I have the strap with snaps from shoulder bell to shoulder strap and also to the bicep. But I also added velcro straps as well from bicep to shoulder bell. Seems to work for me.

  10. I've got nothing to add about going for basic clearance. Some different garrisons have different expectations for basic clearance, so it's difficult to know what they'll ask for. I can't imagine there's much that should cause a problem though If your head is already at the top of your helmet, then it's going to be very difficult to get it any lower! Body shape and dimensions is always taken into account, and of course its going to look different to a degree on everyone. At 6'4" I'm a little tall for a stormtrooper , and some of the gaps in my armour are larger because of this. Shoulder Bridge elastic. When I'm dressing myself alone I can never get that elastic to stay put, it's one reason it's good to have other costumers or handlers around when getting ready. I believe some people put a spot of glue on the inside to keep the elastic loop in place, but having help always makes it easier. My gut feeling with your thighs is to leave the right thigh and just lower your left, as long as its still comfortable to do that. Having said that, you may find tweaking both gives the best result. It's sometimes a bit of trial and error to get the elastics right. So, the elastic from butt to cod, is it very loose even when connected up? If so then it could well be worth fitting another snap popper to the elastic to make it a little tighter. (Without going back to look at earlier pics, is the elastic permanently fixed by rivet at the cod, and then a pop fastener at the butt?). Alternatively, you could try heating the butt to mould it into more of a curve, but be carefully to not overheat it ruin the plastic. Check the elastic first. Shouldn't be an issue at basic, so maybe get that done before attempting it. Mobility cuts. If you're uncomfortable bending your legs then yeah, mobility cuts sounds like the way to go. Read thoroughly the advanced tactics requirements though, and refer to lots of reference pics. The mobility cut mustn't go passed the raised areas or its a problem at level 2 and 3. The way you're approaching this you're going to be really well set for the higher levels, so I'll be expecting application straight after getting basic Rich

  11. Hi Jeff, It looks like you're almost complete. As a tip I would suggest to have some pairs of cloth gloves to help you keep your hands dry when wearing the rubber ones. something like this https://www.amazon.com/Cotton-Gloves-Handling-Inspection-Photography/dp/B07VCZRGM1/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=cloth+gloves&qid=1627310602&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExOTJERENDM040RVNQJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwNTQwMjM1MURDSDVQQVExS0Q5VCZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwNzEyNjQ4MlZZV0QyU05WNVZIWCZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU= looking forward for your BBB day photos.

  12. Awesome work. I think you're right, depending on your local garrison you're either ready or very minor changes. My comments below aren't stuff that I 'think' you need for basic clearance, but much you'll need to consider at higher levels. I agree that the left thigh could come down a bit. You want them at the same level, and the fact that the left is catching the back of your butt plate doesn't look ideal as well as maybe causing armour pinch. With all armour parts you want to aim for symmetry between gaps on the left and right pretty much all over. Again, yes. You're very good at being critical here and picking up the small issues. You are ideally wanting the same gap at the elbow as you have at the wrist when your arms are relaxed, so yes, the forearms could stand to be dropped a little lower. You'll also maybe find it easier to bend your arms (say for putting on your helmet). Not sure what you mean here. Do you mean the elastic that runs from chest to back, from the shoulder bell to bridge, or the elastic that holds your shoulder bridge down? Do you have a piece of elastic running from the butt plate to the cod at the front? If that was on and tight enough (but not too tight) it should pull the bottom of the butt plate up to where it should be. Either one is a possibility, and it depends on if you find the armour uncomfortable without the mobility cuts. There are many on screen examples with mobility cuts, and it will not stop you at the higher levels. I have them on the thighs and shins on my level 3 armour. Shouldn't be an issue for basic clearance, but comfort is an issue at all levels! Looks much better. Left side 'may' be an issue at higher levels as the kidney rivets are partially covered, not sure. Would need a DO or similar to comment. To me it looks like your helmet is still sitting too high, and would look more accurate lower. I had to remove all padding from directly above my head, and I just have a little around my forehead and temples to stop the helmet from wobbling. The top of my head touches the bare plastic. Good luck with your basic clearance. You have outstanding looking armour, and you should be very proud of your work. Rich

  13. I see you used the "rigid" pipes from marko's files, from the pictures of the show those pipes seem flexible though. You can see the pipes pending under the trooper's hand on this shot : Granted the shots are inconsistent because on the next shot he doesn't hold the zippo that far... But from what I could find in the reference shots those are flexible pipes, probably the same as the ones coming from the backpack. Also what was the process like, did you sand and paint each piece individually ? What grit ? I am a complete noob so I have tons of questions

  16. Thank you very much Tony. Those pages are great. And thank you Eric for letting me know the construction is basically the same. That's a bit of a relief because finding any instructions on a hero helmet build seems all but impossible.

  17. Welcome aboard Ed! If you haven't worked it out yet, there is loads of very supportive members on the FISD forums, so everyone has your back when it comes to researching and getting you on your way to becoming an approved Stormtrooper. We also run 2 additional levels of higher accuracy above the basic 501st approval level.9Expert Infantry, and Centurion) Well worth considering these from the outset as you will find they are easier to integrate as you build rather than deciding after you are finished that you want to take the next step. i should also add, very rewarding. once again, welcome aboard.

  23. Yes. It sets like a very flexible clear rubber, and you only need to apply a very thin coating. I've been playing with the parts of the belt I've already treated, and definitely isn't going to crack as it is. I guess it could go hard as it ages, but only time will tell. Also, it hasn't currently discoloured the white canvas. Again, this could change as it get older. I'll try and remember to post updates to show how it's holding up in the coming months.

  26. RE the CRL: I believe Nicker was talking to Sly various weeks back as he had finished and I think it was in the writing, so fingers crossed! And yes, 3D printing is marvelous but a tremendous amount of work does go into every piece
