Loyal Citizens, I've recently made the transition from Cadet to Imperial Stormtrooper, I'm pleased to have been accepted and can't wait for my first assignment. My armor was made by RS Prop Masters and I couldn't be happier with the results, I highly recommend them to anyone looking to get a solid foundation armor set and a quality worthy of 501st Legion membership right out of the box. It is my intention to begin work on my armor in preparation for joining the ranks of the Expert Infantry, and eventually, to join the ranks of the Centurions. First and foremost... There is no one 'best' armor. There is a 'best' armor for *you* depending on a few factors: 1) Your budget 2) What your body size is (yes, different armors lend themselves for different body types) * 3) How experienced are you at building armor 4) It's not the kit, it's how it's fitted to the wearer that counts * While FISD does not endorse any particular armor maker, below are sellers who have proven themselves time and again in terms of customer service, honesty, and quality. All makes below can be made to be both 501st and FISD acceptable. MATERIALS Armor is made from either HIPS or ABS. HIPS --- Pros: generally less expensive, easier to trim. --- Cons: needs painting or serious polishing to look shiny. Most HIPS will not be as durable as ABS or take the stress of ABS --- Suitability: will hold up fine for regular trooping ABS --- Pros: no need to paint, high durability --- Cons: may lack the detail of HIPS, usually harder to trim --- Suitability: will hold up fine for regular trooping plus take a lot of abuse OTHER TERMS Untrimmed: means the kit comes untrimmed and you'll have to trim the parts before starting assembly. Trimmed: parts are pre-trimmed and you can start assembling right away ANH Derived: traces back to a screen used helmet. Armor came from an incomplete ROTJ suit that was supplemented with parts from a tour suit, with this base being modified to be more ANH accurate in detailing. Parts will need to be butt joined with a finishing strip glued on top. * ON SIZING ANH Derived armor (TE2, AP) was sculpted for a typical UK actor circa 1976, e.g. 5'10" and 165lbs. While good for smaller body types, it has been successfully made to fit people as large as 6'4" 235lbs though requires a bit of shimming to pull this off. 1. If you are taller or larger in frame/girth, you may want to consider AM, RT, or TM armor makes for easier fitting. 2. If you are shorter, while ANH derived armor may lend itself to your size, even FX armor has been made to fit and look good on people as small as 5'6" and 115lbs (and smaller!). 3. RT has upsized his helmet by 4-5% which makes it equivalent to the size of the old FX but is more accurate in appearance. So, while it's true that every kit has a certain ideal body type, every make has been made to fit every body type and still look good. WHO TO AVOID 1. It is run by a person selling recast parts, and at a healthy premium over what you can buy direct from vetted sources. You've been warned... 2. Like I learned a lot of times: Nothing beats the real glue. So I glued the back coverstrips and the hooks for the right shin... And couldn't resist taking photos. Things I see, that I need to fix/finish: one of the unglued hooks came of. Glued them and will see how they look then I constantly need to remind me to adjust my arms after getting dressed. Didn't have contacts on so checking was a bit difficult Added a drop of glue to the thigh ammo pack so it stops moving downwards Left shin is twisted. Also a thing of "There's a mole under the bucket" Looks like the left dropbox is doing its own thing. My constant struggle with the shoulder bells. I put them into position and while I'm not looking they're doing their own thing Well, that's at least the thing I see from my amateur point of view. But I feel like this is nagging on a high level.

Correct. You can see the white paint coming off on this armour worn by Peter Diamond as he stumbles through the blast door. Rubber legs also make an appearance in ESB, and ROTJ.

(For those looking at this review for their own future application please be aware that this review is made in appliance to the previous CRL, meaning that there are elements in this review that are suggestions that will be manadatory for those beeing reviewed according to the current CRL as per regulations stipulated for when the changes would take affect, you can read about it in this NL https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/47339-june-fisd-newsletter-2019/) In this review I will ensure that your armor follows the requirements set out in the CRL L2 Expert Infantry Badge and also point out what I can to prepare you for Centurion, should you choose to apply. I hope you do! Let´s get started shall we! CRL and EIB Application Requirements: All required submission photos have been posted and I am very pleased to announce your armor displays all the necessary elements to qualify for ANH Stunt Expert Infantry. On behalf of myself and the entire D.O.Team, Congratulations! Other-Armor Fit/Assembly: In this section we review observations made by your fellow troopers and ourselves. Some observations may lead to suggestions to improve the overall look of your armor. As we navigate through this review we are going to start from the top and work our way down. We start with the helmet and although there are examples of brows in different positions we feel that the intended look is what´s seen below - a clear gap with the brow trim neatly installed. You have a nice looking gap but the trim itself is a bit wavy so we suggest you poke it in place. Next up we have the ears and as seen below on most Stunt helmets the ears had more of an angle to them. Yours are pretty close but could still be moved just a touch, so if you feel up to it we feel it would add even more to that ANH-feeling, another thing to consider would be to trim the ears a bit thinner. Moving on, we have the tube stripes and it´s another of those small details to consider for an uber ANH-look and as seen below the last/most forward stripe usually has a lean forward. An easy fix by simply add an extra stripe with a little lean to it. The mic tips are nice and white on the inside but could use some wear on the rims as seen below and if your hovis are "unpainted" resin you can just scuff them up. Turning our attention to the shoulder bridges they seem a bit long and a quick and easy fix would be to snip them off a bit shorter as seen in the reference image below. Just something to consider. Looking at your arms we noticed there´s a good amount of return edge and we suggest to remove all of it on the inside part as indicated by the blue lines. Original armor had very minimal if any return edge and that would make it a bit more comfortable as well. Looking at the belt we suggest you give it a shave ones in a while to stay sharp on patrols. Your TD is looking good but if you want all out accuracy the clips were butted up to the control panel and the ends had little bends on them as seen in the reference images below. The posterior plate seem to have gone Rogue on you so here we advise you to thighten the strapping. It also appears that the thighs might be a culprit in pushing on the plate, lowering them or trimming is what we suggest if that´s the case. Last on our suggestion list is also a comfort thing by removing some more return edge on the lower cod. We will also just finish off by mentioning that we saw other areas that would benefit some light sanding to keep you more comfortable when wearing the suit. Overall you did a very fine build and we just want you to enjoy it as much as possible - hey! who are we kidding! It´s s Stromtrooper suit, it will be enjoyable even if there were barb wire for the edges...sorry, got a little carried away there - as you were Trooper Let´s move on to the next step! Centurion Requirements: In this section we prepare you for Centurion. More photos may be requested in the future that allow us to make better decisions on possible adjustment etc. If there are any areas of concern they will be discussed here. Because Centurion photos show much more detail than EIB, items pertaining to Centurion might be seen there and not here. We try to point out all we can from what is seen but the final accuracy is the responsibility of the trooper. Below you will find areas that will need to be adressed for a future succesfull Centurion Application. As per L3 there should be a minimal gap between the shoulder armor and the chest and back plate so we need you to close that gap some more and based on your build thread this seem to be a simple dressing issue and if not there´s still some lower return edge at the bells that can be trimmed. The sides should be together nice and thight and some tighter strapping should have this sorted. Last item on your road to Centurion would be to lift the belt and going by your build thread ones again you had the belt position down to point so this most certainly is a dressing matter. And that´s it - just some small tweeks to do so we expect that Centurion application momentarily During that breef transition time - head on out as a proud Expert Infantry man for the Empire

Fabulous work !!! I wish I had a 3D printer ! I'm not an expert but I see just a little thing disturbing me : the grip should be more rounded. The one you draw comes from an airsoft, or an MGC Sterling (ROTJ), not from a L2A3 sterling (ANH, ESB).

No, they were made from regular gloss ABS like I use. The problem with most of the 501st armour is it way too rigid and they like to use 2mm or thicker ABS for some strange reason. If you use thick plastic and webbing strapping systems with interlocking hinges and whatever else I seen used, you'll never get to sit down without cracking your armour. The movie strapping works extremely well with the correct ABS and I highly recommend it to everyone

Thanks. It could be done. My thought here was more to strengthen the fragile plastic arms on the folding stock. In this regard, the design intent was more to make a durable "trooping blaster" than the more aesthetically pleasing separated folding stock. You may note I did the same with the scope rail, adding a filler/support between it and the receiver body. I am not opposed to separating the folding stock in another version of the blaster. It would probably mean printing the folding stock separately from the main body and making a provision for anchoring the front end underneath the barrel shroud. After printing the prototype (which is now underway), I will have a better idea about what changes to make in the next iteration.

You might try a combo approach- one of those headlight polishing kits. It consists of a more abrasive start to grind away impurities, then a lighter one to smooth, then you buff it with a polish and filler/sealant. Maybe in between, like after the abrasive layer, dry the whitening stuff from TrooperBay- you put it on, put it out in the sun, and basically sun-bleach it with added chemicals to assist in the bleaching process. I mean it's worth a shot- it might just make it lighter or less noticeable, but it's still a start. If it doesn't work, then you might already be in paint territory anyway so you just lost some time and effort.

Honestly I think the only long term fix would be to paint the armor. I've done the whitening job about 4 times on my backup ESB helmet and it comes back every time. It's okay because I don't really use it. But my armor is the same plastic as that helmet and I've done the whole suit twice now. So I'm almost to the point that I will just be upgrading my armor this fall. My armor is already 5 years old. I will also say it certainly comes down the type of plastic that was used. I got my first helmet from troopermaster which is over 5 years old and it has not yellowed at all. My ESB helmet and my everyday armor is MTK. If I stand next to a newer set of armor you can really tell how yellow I am.

From the picture of the kidneys flip it around and it should be right. the smaller curve to the bottom. The side button look fine also, 10mm from the edge 20 from the top and equidistant for the rest.

"First, why is there 2 sets of "ears" for the bucket"? It is more that likely that you have a set of "Stunt" ears and a set of "Hero" ears. The difference is that the Stunt has 4 raised ridges on the "bump" and Hero has 3. "Second, should I have gotten decals for the bucket, or will I have to order some or hand paint myself? If I want to order, any suggestions from where?" If you didn't receive decals with your kit (some armorers supply them, some don't) you can order a set. Just be sure that you order ones that have a "hand painted" look as required for ANH. For basic Stunt approval and above, Frown is painted gray and does not leave the teeth area. Eight total teeth on the frown are cut out.
