  1. Hi everyone, I received my approval yesterday and have signed up for 2 troops including the Toronto Comicon. I look forward to meeting many of you and to giving to the community. If only I knew: -Just how much information is out there! -That the advice on here is so solid. -Do more research, make more notes -Triple check your supply list -Just how darned HOT it is inside TK armor! Oops! -Gather all of your supplies and triple check your list. It will save a LOT of trips back and forth to the fabric stores, hardware stores, hobby stores, Amazon... A funny thing happened on the way to the Death Star: -My journey started with an email to a 501st member that I found on the 501st.ca site. He welcomed a total stranger (well.. he DID Facebook stalk me and talk to a mutual friend to make sure I wasn't a total psycho) with awesome advice, invited me to his home to see his armor, and has been there for me the entire journey, taking pictures, offering advice, and volunteering to help at any time. Thanks SO much to @Twosolitudes Shout Outs: @Twosolitudes @68Brick @gmrhodes13 @wook1138 and everyone else who helped, laughed, and kept me company during my build thread. Last of all to my dad. Last summer was spent at the hospital with my dad who was slowly wasting away to prostate cancer. The last conversation I had with him was when I told him I had finally found the Trooper armor that I wanted to order, and told him the price. He said "Buy it". The next day he was unconcious and unresponsive, and he died the day after. My TKID is in honour of him. His birthday was April 8 1934, and I am TK 40834.

  2. Hi Brendan This will be discussed in the D.O team but no matter the outcome you won´t have to sacrifice the ones you currently have. I´m sure you still have the mic tips AP supplies with the Kit so simply change them out for your Centurion submisson and you good to go. Some valid points have been made here. However the CRL clearly states the use of and to qoute: correct ´Hovi aerator mic tips´ and those are hollow. But again, this will be discussed in the terms of how much detail should be in the word "correct". The CRL is as we know evolving but not without discussion. There is a hectic time at the moment and mistakes might happen so bear with us for now. If a mistake has been made we are eager to correct it. If there in fact was a mistake in approving these type of mic tips then the applicant needs to replace them as Centurion is the next level and things missed/overlooked during EIB and later noticed won´t get a free pass for Centurion. I know you understand this Brendan and will make the necessary changes, if any, to make your Kit look and be as accurate as possible. Just clarifying for all who´s following. Brendan, as you said you like how the mic tips sound, after you are cleared it´s up to you what you do with your Kit. Much like the UKG who adds stickers after EIB/Cent approval.

  4. I think you have a point to argue here. I don't recall anyone being called on those types of hovi-mics before (but I don't closely follow a lot of the approval threads). This is not clearly indicated in the CRL, or at least the CRL does not appear to have changed so I don't know why these tips would no longer be allowed. From what I can tell, if you passed EIB with them, then you should be good. Don't trash them yet

  5. FYI this is not mandatory at the moment but if not present it will be a suggestion to improve the overall look, much like the brow hight, angles of the ears and size of ab buttons to name a few

  7. Nice work Brendan and congrats on approval. Before you pull your helmet apart - keep in mind that the alignment of those ear screws can look off in pictures depending on the angle of the shot. I have an AP kit and always thought my screws were a bit out based on pictures, but when looking at the helmet in person, it is very close to lining up to the edge of the trap. I took a bunch of pictures to test, and sure enough... depending on the angle of the camera to the helmet, the screws can look really out to lunch. Especially if you are close up to the helmet and using a wide angle lens (like what most smart phones have). Did the hovi mics come from AP like that? See you at Centurion!

  8. (And potential build thread???? It could happen...) Hey Silver Siblings!!!! Welcome to the FISD and our chrome Lady’s build section. I thought I’d introduce myself first. My real human name is Teresa. I currently reside in nowhereland Northern Alberta Canada in a small community of 150 people. I am a very proud member of the Badlands Garrison, and have been since April 2016. I currently am going into my third term as Garrison PR Officer, and I’m one of the Moderators on the Captain Phasma Costumers Facebook page. I also can be found sewing gaskets, neck seals, harnesses and sexy biker shorts for our First Order Family, Classic TKs, clones, Sandy’s, Snowies, as well as a multitude of other items for a good many costumes. You can find me in the Ongoing Sales and Run section in the Imperial Commissary or on Facebook under Geeky Pinks Phantastic Gaskets. I answer to TK~41307, Miss Pink, Pinky, Pink Lady, GeekyPink, SoulArt, Snow Queen, Captain Sassy, Teresa and Mom [emoji175] I joined the Legion with my Authentic Props Stunt TK, Who has been worked on and built to EIB #719 and Centurion #335 levels. I began work on my Phasma in May of 2016. A very aspiring build for my second costume. I was a newb! I joined the ranks of Captain on February 28th 2017 as the Legions 9th Phasma. My kit is an ABS KB Props, with a Jim Tripon Helmet. C3P0 fingers from Shawn Thorsson. Holster clip from Justin Lee Morrison. All soft goods except pouches on belt (cape, gaskets, neck seal, belt) were made by myself including belt. Pouches were from Jimmi as well. The finish on the armor is Spectra Chrome. I did the sanding, wet sanding, priming and sanding. The guy at the autobody shop did the actual chroming. I often can be found here reading and interjecting comments here and there, but mostly I respond privately to people. And help them build. I’m not sure why I’m like a FISD ninja, I guess I didn’t wish to be out in the open helping for fear it looked super pushy. Elitist, Or like bragging. I’ve helped garrison mates build many many classic tks, and helped in my Twins FOTK. I’m also an approved ROTS Royal Guard, Director of Intelligence Ysanne Isard, Governor Ahrinda Pryce, and am tinkering in a Mara Jade, Legacy Fem TK, TFU Black Shadow Guard with full robes and First Order Snowtrooper. The Mara and Legacy require some weight loss before I feel comfortable wearing that skin tight body suit or tailored armor. As a woman, I understand the trials of armor building around a dead thyroid, hormonal weight fluctuations, body parts spilling over the edges of your armor because you just can’t lay off the salt n vinegar chips and dip, female body parts, stress, busy single Hockey Mom life.... I had always thought I’d come back and create my build thread.... help others by my mistakes and trials and build knowledge. Vader knows I certainly took enough pictures throughout. But time has a way of getting away from us, and here I am almost 3 years later and still no thread. Until today. Maybe you all will inspire me to get my buttplate in gear and get a build thread up for you. At the very least, I’m here at the gentle request of my dear TK Twin Pyrates, (who is always trying to get me to help openly instead of privately) and Andrew/Sly to let you know I’m here to offer any help and advice I may have on this particular costume. Or as a female of our species. Although I cannot guarantee that I will get that build thread created, or be in here 24/7, I will do the best I can for you all. I will share pictures. Offer Build advice. Vendor info. Sewing and construction advice. Always have a shoulder for you to to cry on when you end up hating her and wish to throw her down the stairs or light her on fire. (It’s true. This happens.) I will always listen. Help you as best as I can. If I do not know the answer of what you seek, I will find you a Phasma that does. I shall try harder to not lurk in the shadows, but be more present, in the hopes to help you all. I’ll add some of my favorite photos and armor bits then go into build stuff as the days go on. Wishing you all happy building and trooping! Sincerely SoulArt/TK-41307 Now for some armor bits just laying around in my phone. Mostly upper body. Cod, boot, etc. Ill clean this up later and organize it by body section. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  12. Great! Thanks for the clarification Daniel. I do still have the AP tips, so swapping them out just for Centurion photos is no trouble. I'm grateful that this is an option! :-)

  13. Just kidding. You will have trouble hearing - fact of life in a TK bucket. You can lessen the damage by insulating the fans from the plastic. If you don't have any kind of liner in your bucket, try to wrap foam (weather stripping) around your fans and back them with foam or Velcro. Aside from that, just placement can make a difference. Or go see Tony about his hearing assist system.

  14. Maybe reach out to UKwrath on the hovi mics since they are his. He might have more input on this.

  16. Ok.... it has been a while. I am determined to have from the neck down completed to wear by Detroit Motor City Comic con May 17-19. I was chatting with a some members on the FISD facebook site, but it occurred to me I should come back to the forums.... So, here I am back again, but this time bound and determined. I know I can't submit with FX bucket, but I would at least like to be able to wear what I have done and get live feedback from the pros. Since my last post, I have started on my calves. I had to trim these down about 1/4in. To maintain the original armor shape at bottom, I used painting tape to make a template and move the whole edge up the leg and trim from there. Here are pics after I completed trimming. This gives me clearance between top of armor and bottom of knee cap. It may need to be trimmed some more, but I want to wear as is before cutting any more. I plan to use a 20mm cover strip on the front and a 25mm on the back. I understand that I do not need to use this method, but I want the practice for future suit upgrade.

  17. Thanks for your input, everyone! Upon review, I think you guys are right, my EIB submission photos didn't show my ear alignment at the best angles. However I do think they still need some work. Darn ears. They were assuredly the most difficult part of my build. If they aren't L3-approvable as they are now, I think I'll be ordering another set from Mark and giving them another whirl from scratch. How important is it that the bottom screw is centred on the ear? For instance, on my left ear if I were just to move it over slightly it would be in alignment but be off-centre of the strip that it's on. Is that better? Re-doing the ear and altering the angle would be best, but I'm just curious. As for my right ear, I can see that it is indeed too far forward. On to the to-do list! Eric, thanks for your point about the hovi-tip mics—It was late and that didn't even cross my mind when I read Andy's review, haha. I can confirm that they are Ukswrath's hovi-tip speakers. That being the case, I am a little anxious about opening them up and fiddling with them for fear of either breaking them or, if that white piece is for protection, leaving the speakers exposed to damage while trooping. I jumped on over to Eric's Centurion application and didn't see a mention of the hovi-speakers being an issue—has the CRL had a change? It just says "Correct 'hovi-mic' aerator tips" for L2 and no mention of them for L3. As much as I want to see this through all the way to L3, I reaaally like how the hovi-tip speakers sound. If they are an issue, I'd have to put some real thought into whether sacrificing them is worth it to me (not to mention they were a little pricey). In the mean time, I'll be getting started on the belt/drop-boxes, shoulder bells and painting tweaks! Seriously, thanks so much Andy for the detailed review and to everyone else for your ongoing input. My armour will keep getting happier and happier because of it!

Not happy with the grips I made new ones with corrugated plasticcard First of the DLT specific items Charging handle made from a cheap torch Making the butt plate Top feed covers coming together These make the sides of the receiver (ie the main body)

  21. I know what you mean, get the front right, then the rear needs adjusting. All you can do is go nice and slow and keep re checking. Also you should do trial fitting with the screws tightened up as this will also change how those gaps look.

  25. Updating this craziness, the first order group on Facebook is much easier to directly post on. Getting the kit in the first place after it was nearly lost within the whole KB Props/Hal debacle last May was a complete nightmare that eventually resolved itself, the second nightmare was figuring out how to start on the process of putting the kit together. Huge thanks to Dustin, Calvin, and the rest of my local crew for getting this done for me with my crazy life schedule. We're done and took approval pics this past Sunday, it's currently at peer review now! The kit is comprised of the following: Armor: KB Props Helmet: TDK Props (Tom Campbell) Gasket's: Sheev's Emporium Boots & Gloves: Imperial Boots Paint: Montana Gold every step of the way (primer, shock white/black, varnish, etc.) We are aware of the minor placement issues with the TD, the abdomen right a little low, but plate not having a gap of black between it and the abdomen, etc. They are all easily fixable and we are more than happy to retake photos to fix those. Here are some pics for you to enjoy:

  27. Hi Sven, Thanks for your submission, and thanks so much for the updated photos. Beautiful job on the ab/kidney alignment and evening up the gaps on your limbs. Very tall troopers such as yourself have to make as many modifications as very short troopers such as myself. CRL and Centurion Application Requirements All the required submission photos are present and on behalf of the DO team I'm pleased to congratulate you and welcome you to Centurion rank! Other-Armor Fit/Assembly: In this area we discuss any areas still needing some improvement. Although they did not hold you back from Centurion, at this level it's all about the small details that will really make your armor look its best. Since you already acknowledged the eye return edge and ear position, I won't mention those again. One small nitpick on your helmet: the left lower ear screw seems to be slightly out of place, causing it to be very close to the ear bumps. If you're feeling adventurous, you could reposition it and fill the hole. Reference Image: Another small suggestion I have is to watch your neck seal getting bunched up during dressing. Having a handler take a final look or even tucking it into your undersuit could keep it from trying to escape. Reference Image: Lastly, your sniper knee is well-aligned. Our only suggestion would be to trim both sides of the return edge a bit to match the screen-used examples better: Reference Image: And that's it! Congratulations on a really beautiful build and welcome again to Centurion! Now get out there and make The Empire proud!

  29. Congrats on EIB! On to Centurion! If I recall correctly from his build thread they're ukswrath hovi speakers (they also look just like mine, so I think that they are). I found it odd because as far as I know they've never been called out as an issue for L3 approval in the past. Prior to taking them apart I would suggest asking for clarification on that aspect as they might be damaged by opening them up.

  34. Nice work, just a couple of things that you could improve on, your drop boxes aren't aligned to the edge of the belt in a lot of photos, a dab of E6000 on the elastic loops can stop them moving, also looks like your counter may be a tad low Could drop the belt just a little, should line up just under the bottom button, yours appears to be covering the bottom of the button. You may also need to supply photos of your bottom helmet screws Good luck trooper

  35. If you can hit RS up for the TD screws they have the right ones plus if you haven’t already just add some felt to the back of the TD clips to protect your armour getting scratched up, I didn’t at first and got scratches on the back of the kidney plate. It’s not required but you have spent a bit of money on the kit and time putting it together. Good luck with approval its a it’s a good looking kit.

  36. just note i made an easy assembly board to make the work easier and better. Just succesfully completed its testing, the sound is loud and clear, no clipping or noise, thanks to PCB connections. With this board it will be easier to fit arduino and their components inside the PVC pipe, saves extra cables and work, no mistakes.
