  1. I might divert from screen accuracy. The onscreen t21s looked to be painted black. Actual Lewis guns looked pretty worn. I’ll darken the body a bit, but I like this weathered and worn look that I’m getting with oil paints. I can’t take this blaster to SWAT because of the tubing (or lack thereof) so I might leave it more worn looking. I have to figure out a good method for clear coating. 2. Yup.. will do. Was thinking that. Snags and such... and I’m sure for L3 as well. Decided to be safe and give a little extra. The biceps are pretty much where they need to be. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  3. Progress! Got home from Labor Day weekend and took the clamps off. Now on to the next project. Either abdomen and chest or thighs and shins. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  4. You can cut from the inside, or use a tin snip or lexan scissors and here`s a Canon pic for reference (the RS suit)

  5. I appreciate the input guys, so thanks! Like Q mentions, I knew I wanted some backup over just having a single snap, so I added a second single snap setup at the bottom (which is at the top in the picture below). The tab & slot system will go in the middle of course. Threw some paint on the rivet heads: Double snap plates added for the chest/back straps: And I borrowed an idea from Cricket and reinforced my shoulder straps. Basically I filled all of the ridges with scrap plastic and then glued in a metal strap (K&S 0.028" x 1" W x 12" L (cut to length)). Once that's dried and the excess glue removed I'll be gluing on a very thin plastic cover on each strap.

  7. You can remove all the return edge on the fore arms and biceps if it's going to make it more comfy to wear. As you can see in the images above, the screen used armour had no return edges on many of the parts.

  8. Glad to hear you’re still going to post more. I’ve been using this as a guide, though so far mine is nowhere near as nicely done. I’ve also made some major mistakes but it’s all good.

  9. Looking good Sean. I suggest when finished trim the cover strips back to the armor's edge for a number of reasons.

  10. Very helpful - I'll be sure to do that! Cheers!

  11. Yes, that's the wrist end ... and that would make sense to cut more. For cutting outside of the provided cut lines, what's a good technique for that? I'm doing the score and snap technique, but I worry my heavy hand will let that Exacto knife scratch/cut more than I want. Thanks Daniel!

  14. Hi Dave, and thank you for your ANH-Stunt EI application. CRL and EIB Application Requirements: All required submission photos have been posted, and I am very pleased to announce that your armor displays all the necessary elements to qualify for Expert Infantryman. Since your initial build thread, you have made excellent use of those new armor parts - kudos for that. On behalf of the Deployment team, congratulations! Other-Armor Fit/Assembly: In this section we review observations made by your fellow troopers and ourselves. Some observations may lead to suggestions to improve the overall look of your armor. You’ve made a really tidy job of your armor and we don’t have a lot to highlight. The following suggestions will help to take your armor another step closer to its on screen counterparts. Starting from the lid. Compared with screen used lids, your ears are possibly a little thick. You could consider trimming them a little more if you wanted to get even closer to screen accurate. This might also help the lower edge of the ear wrap around the "tube/cheek" a little better where the ear meets the lower neck trim/s-trim. We would suggest keeping a close eye on your shoulder bells/chest gap. Although it looks like you've got the shoulder bells as close as they'll get (good job), it looks like the undersuit might be bunching a little and overlapping the bells. Example of shoulder bells/gaps: As mentioned by your fellow troopers, it appears that your forearm and bicep coverstrips might be a little long, extending past the edge of the relevant armour parts. A little trim on these would be suggested. In the same picture, it appears that your undersuit might be bunching between the back and kidney. In a couple of pictures, your waist ammo belt has dropped (which you mentioned in your application). If you find this happens on occasion, you could consider an extra popper/snap, (or an alternative like Velcro), in the centre of the belt, attaching to the middle of the ab (below the ab buttons), just to keep it from dropping. Belt Reference: Moving to the legs, your thighs and shins are not currently lining up. Based on the photos provided, it looks like your shins are lined up with your feet, so we’d suggest correcting the thighs to match. Centurion Suggestions: In this section we review observations made by your fellow troopers and ourselves. Some observations may lead to suggestions to improve the overall look of your armor. More detailed photos will be required when you go for Centurion and will allow us to look at the finer details, however, from what we can already see, it looks like you’re on the right track. You currently have a very small gap on the left side of your ab/kidney connection. Just shortening those straps should correct that for you. We look forward to seeing your Centurion application soon…

  15. Hey Sean, I found I got amazing results with a table top belt sander (a cheap one is less than $100) for larger pieces, flat sides and smooth curves and then 200 grit on a rubber sanding block for finishing up. Mark

  16. Great job on the reinforcement. That is exactly what I did to my shoulder bridges.

  17. I happened to find Mike's TK build videos while searching YouTube for a visual reference on my first build. I am grateful that he has made them, as they helped me in spots where I was stuck, or needed confidence when I had none. They are very informative, and I probably would not be where I am at if it weren't for those videos, and help from friends and other Troopers in my area. I would like to commend him all the way from California, not having even met him. Although, I sent him a few emails to ask him some questions, and he kindly replied to each one. Thank you, Mike. Hopefully there will be a day that I can thank you in person. Best Regards, Mark

  19. Interlude -- Aw, snap! I started on my snap plates today. I began by doing several test plates and straps, then tried snapping and unsnapping them just to get the feel of it all before doing the real ones. I was flabbergasted at just how un-strong the Tandy snaps are. Seriously, it takes almost nothing to pull a snap loose. And it wasn't just one or two I may have done improperly -- although there's no real way to do these improperly -- but about seven or eight practice snap sets. How anyone can use single snaps on their armor and depend on them is beyond me. I had always planned to do the double snaps, but now I'm more determined than ever to do doubles. More importantly, I've decided to put my snap plates and strapping on hold for now and, taking Ukswrath's advice, ordered several dozen Fasnap sets from Mr. Amazon. Thanks, Tony! I'll have them Tuesday or Wednesday and can get back to making snappin' and strappin' happen. In the meantime, there are other things I can get to work on, like the belt and drop boxes or maybe the hand plates, so I can keep busy till my new snaps arrive. A.J.

  20. Fantastic news! Great to have you back on the forum again. Thanks for the kind words Tino. We all have each other's backs here and just happy to help out when I can. I want to thank the troopers here too for responding and giving their support for a trooper in need. Hope your email situation can be sorted out by the tech ream.

  21. I’ll have to disagree I don’t find them an issue at all. Just remember using a single snap can be the difference from not trooping due to one failing. I know I’ve lost the odd snap over the years and without a spare I would have been benched

  22. Hello everybody, I am halfway there and can log in again. Not sure who did what, so first of all I want to thank every person here who helped getting my account up and running again. A very big special THANK YOU goes out to Brian @Bulldog44 who immediately took action. Not only did he start this thread here to raise attention for my login problem. He also updated me via email, so at least I had an idea of what was going on. Can't thank you enough for this, man. Above I said "halfway there" because meanwhile I am able to log in again, but still have the original problem: the FISD does not send me email-notifications for anything. It never was a password issue, only an email issue. That means, I miss every private message until I log in next time. Did anybody ever experience the same issue and/or has any idea how to fix this? Is there anything at all I can do, or is it a technical thing for the webmaster(s)? Any help is highly appreciated.

  24. I'll be swapping out some pieces in the not too distant future to a dirty sandy, my TK is getting a few scratches and marks after 6 years of heavy trooping, luckily I have a spare set of armor sitting in a BBB ready to go, just finding the time to get at it Going TK, then TK HWT and then on to TD is great advice, you'll get a lot of wear out of the one set

  28. Hurray my ANH Hero TK has just been approved! I’m so happy – a dream come true! I’ve been a huge fan of Star Wars since I was a little girl and was lucky enough to be able to work for Disney when they’ve purchased Lucasfilm a few years ago. While working on the campaigns I've met the lovely people from the Dutch Garrison and before I knew it I was dreaming of creating my own costume. Back in January I was finally able to purchase my kit from TM. I was so happy when my BBB arrived in March! Thank you so much @troopermaster for this gorgeous kit! I was very afraid to touch it, let alone make some cuts, too afraid I would damage something I could not repair. From July until last weekend, it was a roller coaster, blue tape everywhere and not to forget the smell of E6000. I will definitely miss it ; ) If I would do everything over, I wouldn’t fuss so much about the cutting/sanding the perfect lines for the fore arms, biceps, thighs and shins – the cover strips will hide it anyway, and not to mention the many re-cuts you have to do while fitting it to the right size. Big thanks to @VulpX (for getting me started and introduce me into the TK world, we had fun : ) @toxication and Nadia (for the lovely evenings, sharing progress and ideas), @TheSwede & @Frank75139 & @lucnak & @CableGuy (for the super swift responses on my WIP-posts – so happy with your feedback!) and last but not least everyone who contributed to this awesome forum! I’ve spend so many hours reading all tips & tricks, it’s so great to see troopers taking the time to help each other to build awesome costumes. I’m proud to be part of the family, and I’m looking forward to serve the Empire the best way I can. Now moving on to Expert Infantryman

  29. Thanks, all! I finally got it attached pretty much as in the photos. Devil of a time doing those split rivets. Not a lot of working room in there, and managed to whack my finger mightily. The bruise goes nicely with the magnet-pinch blister about 3/16" away from it. (That blister, in turn, is pretty much centered between the new bruise and a cut from trimming. War injuries in service to The Empire.) Anyway, the knee belt is attached with the correct rivets, and secured with a dollop of E6000 here and there. Finished knee belt photos to come. Meanwhile, I've also done the sniper knee, and it came out fantastic. And, with the legs done I've been adding the outer cover strips, and those are also coming along nicely. Photos on that to come, too. A.J.

  31. http://501st.com/members/displaymemberdetails.php?userID=28607 I started my Jimmiroquai Rogue One TK on April 2nd and was approved on July 22nd. I got this kit to celebrate my 50th birthday. This kit is very different from OT TKs in many ways but perhaps the single largest difference (from a construction perspective) is that it is made of flexible fiberglass rather than HIPS. It must be painted and most of the problems I have run into have been centered on paint more than any other aspect. I have been told that my build thread here in FISD is pretty extensive and comprehensive so I will not rehash all the good and bad things that came from the build. I will simply provide a link to the thread and anyone wanting to read through it can do so. https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/44463-11b30b4’s-rotk-build/ I chose the Rogue One TK because of the detail and I loved Rogue One. This is not my first costume. I have been an active member of the Mandalorian Mercs since January 2018 and have been told that my Mando build was equally extensive. So now I will be seeking EIB and Centurion for my ROTK. I am very excited to be an official member of the 501st and I have been blown away with the support of all the members who helped me along the way.
