  2. Personally I find some of these "Hero" blasters quite expensive for what they are: a Sterling SMG that, maybe, was used in Star Wars. As we know already none of their greeblies are screen used, no matter if they are genuine vintage: M19/M32/M38/M40 tank scope, scope rail, Hengstler counter, mag cylinders, t-tracks. Some even had resin greeblies, non-accurate odd looking t-tracks, not to mention the weird way some of these greeblies are installed on the blaster. In fact an ESB/ROTJ resin stunt E-11 (aka Pugman) would be more valuable in my eyes than these Sterlings, as the Pugman is original and keeps all the details. Not to mention a screen used ROTJ MGC conversion, which is even better.

  5. You read my mind, Tino. Like yourself, Glen, Sergiu and others I have studied countless screen caps and official references of E-11s. Those T-tracks are not original. Period. Close, but no cigar. The "metal" weathering and ends (as you mentioned) are custom made and do not bend into the holes in the shroud. Correct me if I'm wrong, but has anyone else seen the T-tracks on each side of the bayonet lug? I certainly haven't. Not sure how they can claim that the only replacement is the scope rail. They should realize how many of us S.W. weapons nerds will notice.

CRL Workflow Update The Rebels animated series Stormtrooper CRL has undergone a minor update to now include the Chimera insignia on the pauldron. It was also brought to my attention this CRL had no synopsis, so this has also been rectified. Synopsis: Stormtroopers were the foot soldiers of the Galactic Empire, tasked with enforcing order throughout the galaxy. They wore armor similar to that of the clone troopers of the Old Republic and were considered the spiritual successors to the clone army. Stormtroopers under the command of Grand Admiral Thrawn had the ability to wear the Chimera insignia, as seen in the animated series Rebels. This appeared on the pauldron showing absolute dedication to their commander. Fun News Private Collectors original screen identified Hero Stormtrooper armour has come up for auction. It's great to see this almost complete set, (images available in the Gallery section of our forums), and some lucky/wealthy collector will become the new owner in less than 30 days time. Looks like the current bidding is at $200,000, and it could well go for far more that that given the extreme rarity of Hero armour, especially a near complete set such as this. LFL have some of the Luke hero armour in their archives, but that seems to be missing the limbs, or at least matched to that set. That leaves one other know set out there in the wild of private collections. Now if i can just get that Lotto win, I'd be in with a chance lol!! Ultimately, we all hope it goes to a good home and someone gets to truly enjoy it. This is that same kit several years back now. Gino from EFX was able to make molds off the inside of this kit, every part, but sadly they never released the actual product for sale. To this day Gino is the only one with a full ABS pulled set from this beautiful masterpiece. Looks like some yellowing has occurred since the below image was taken back circa 2013. If you are lucky to get to a SW Celebration, he's has had his set on display a few times. More Fun News: A little while ago, I started a discussion with fellow staff on creating some FISDcentric screen savers or backgrounds for our members to access offering another fun way to represent your favorite detachment on lap tops and PC's There are future plans to include mobile device formats as well. TK23592 Nairy jumped at the chance and put together some truly awesome and fun designs. Today we are releasing the first of a series of these backgrounds, available to all members, so keep an eye on the Announcement section of the forums where these will be permanently housed and ready for use. More Merch To Look Forward To: As we close out on some awesome FISD merch runs, there is another in the wind. 7. Yeah I've heard of doing this but I have a feeling I won't need to lol, I have big arms.

  8. I also forgot to mention if you have really skinny arms you can add a little foam inside armor pieces to keep them sitting straight. Most don't need to add any padding.

  9. Ah. might've forgotten that thread existed lol, thanks. For now what I've decided to do is just trim down the wrists because I know those at least need to go all the way down. After a bit of practice on some spare ABS I think the first one turned out pretty great, isn't make a few adjustments with my razor, just to get it rounder if need be.

  13. My 2 cents: We are very close with this and for the gap there to halt the process I think would be a shame, especially since it could be remade in the future as we get more people to build these with this CRL in place, everything is a flow as we see when we correct CRLs and images every now and then - or add higher levels of approval. Not accepting someone at basic with a pauldron looking like this with everything else considered would harsh in my opinion, but that is GML business I guess! I think we should move along!

  14. I'm sorry, but I disagree. The differences are too obvious even for basic (as a GML, I would ask to correct it).

  16. UPDATE Remnant TK weathered version will be its own CRL. What we can and cant add will follow but we should still follow some of our basic principles else it makes a CRL convoluted and too confusing for GML's, members and DO to follow. You would assume generally each TK is set up the same, but in this time frame and disjointed after the empire era, it shows that isn't true maybe by intention, maybe not. What is clear seems to be some had an Anovos helmet where others had R1, that has to be on purpose one would think. I can see that being in a CRL as its pretty easy. I think a line will need to be drawn on what is most commonly seen like we usually do else this makes for a long CRL with a rather large number of disparities. Not something our members are used to. We don't have a level like the MEPD which is pick a Sandtrooper from the screen and replicate it, down to the weathering and finer details. This Remnant TK could actually fit that bill, but we haven't attempted this before nor do we have a level currently to facilitate it. That bit will go under staff discussion and as always we roll with a vote the democratic way. What I do want, is for this to become a live CRL, but we need one very important factor. A member ready and eager to work with us and build this costume so we have everything we need to complete a CRL. Most of the writing is complete and its looking pretty good and is all in this thread. So I put it out to the membership, who wants to be a CRL model for a first in legion costume!!

  18. Look I agree that the pauldron parts don't match the references as tightly as we may like, but I think as Justin mentioned, we can look to update this at a later date. If we add dimensions, that makes it difficult for GML's and members alike, we don't measure distances on a basic level as we don't handle the approvals, we just build the CRL. Will some complain, yep some always do! but for higher levels, that's where we can be more picky and make more stipulations. Not every CRL model is Centurion level, although it is desirable, this is a partly new to legion costume. What we can't control is any given GML saying no that pauldron isn't right compared to references, and trust me plenty of GML's out there do use reference images to do exactly that. I would suggest, for EI or centurion we get down to closer referencing of subject matter, and make the pauldron part of that. There are plenty of costumes getting around legion that look far from the picture, in general we are pretty darn good, so we cant make this up in higher levels. Purely my opinion and as always, happy to be wrong
    1 point
  19. thank you for the super accurate answer. Probably the only good thing of MR is the weight and the long term value….
    1 point
  20. Some reference shows it wider, some narrower - I went wider. I did actually trim every single panel to increase the gaps and help with that angle during my rebuild, but could only do so much before the glue lines became visible in the black space, and it looked awful. So the pauldron is not changing. We're in too deep. Maybe in a future V2 or something, but I already disassembled it once and it can't happen again. The panels are way too solidly glued on now and removing them would destroy the leather underneath. It simply can't be done without starting over, which I am not going to do. So while I appreciate the opinions on that specific topic - move along, move along. I'll add some weathering to match the reference after the base TFA is approved first. Just wanted to provide an update so the CRL work can be scheduled within reason. No promises, but it shouldn't take more than a few weeks to finish the ab boxes and belt, then take photos.

  21. Thanks guys. I didn't see @gmrhodes13post until after I got all my glueing done but fortunately, I did do about 5 mm return edge on that top! Phew. Thighs, glued up. Check. Shins just got glued up. Check. I need to add the piece to the right thigh and left knee. But I am assuming that is not going to be too difficult. Then on to the chest and back. I see a light at the ed of the tunnel! Until I post pictures and you all tell me what I did wrong.

  22. Correct, T-tracks did look odd, especially one blaster having weathering and one not. As I mentioned earlier what this thread has shown though, a few screen used blasters (Live/Hero) did not have T-Tracks on both lower sides of the barrel, hence the light/armor showing through in a few images. Great to see this thread pricked up the ears of so many

  25. As mentioned, your armor pieces are held together via a strapping system and are not attached to the undersuit. The late great Daniel (TK 42911) has a fantastic video (link here) which shows the full process. As for the smelly factor, I keep a stash of sanitizing wipes in my armor bin, and I wipe down the inside of each piece before placing it back in. The undersuit can (and should) be washed after each use.
    1 point
  26. What sticks out to me is that both blasters have different kinds of T-tracks. While the tracks on blaster 2 look like having been bent to really lock into the venting holes, blaster 1 has tracks with no signs of any bends. It more looks like they have been shaped to have curved ends. This results in the question of why having 2 different types and/or methods of adding T-tracks. My guess would be both are rebuilds.

  28. This is to show a few ways to modify your armor, if you're too slim for the usual size. Trimming Although this may seem like the most obvious solution, unless you're smaller than the average TK (smaller than 175cm) as well, extensive trimming might lead to weird proportions. If you decide to trim your armor, here's a few things you should look out for: For forearm armor, you should trim the back of the armor, as the front might have a raised ridge for your cover strip. Make sure to angle the cut as necessary. Leave enough room to get your hand through the wrist opening comfortably. You might need to reshape the armor with heat afterwards. With the bicep armor make sure to cut equal amounts from front and back, so that the raised armor part/thumb print remains centered. Here you should rather leave some extra space than end up with a too slim bicep as that usually ends up not looking good. Regarding the thighs, you should have the same approach as with the forearms, making sure to only take away extra material in the back. When trimming, make sure to keep the back of both thighs looking similar. The coverstrip should end up pointing at this "corner". You might need to cut off extra material at the top once you align the bottom ridges. The shins should also be trimmed solely from the back, since in the front you have a raised area for the coverstrip. Make sure to test the fit whilst wearing your boots as they might give you extra width to account for. It's better to go slow and trim bit by bit than to rush and take off too much. Although I do NOT recommend trimming the torso, if you feel the need to do so, make sure to trim equal amounts off of all plates to keep the overall balance. Once you get to a point, where any piece of the armor fits you should not trim any other torso pieces. If you've got the notches in your kidney plate, you will either need to reform them after trimming, or you cut away enough material so that you do not have any notches. At the very least for your back and your chestplate you will need to reform the return edge for an authentic look, so make sure to learn that skill beforehand with a separate piece of ABS scrap before reshaping any armor parts. For heatforming a return edge you should either have a piece of smooth wood in the correct shape to bend your armor over whilst forming or you can use a heating iron. Padding Instead of filling out your armor with body mass, you can also add padding. Usually small pads are enough, but you can also fill out your armor pieces across the full length. There are different types of padding you can use. Either store-bought or foam that you cut to the right size. Depending on what you like best and how much flexibility you want to allow your padding you can either use firm or softer padding. Ideally your padding is black to blend into your undersuit. However, should you use different colored padding you can easily use a marker to turn it darker. Should you use a marker, there's no need to color the whole piece, only what is visible by looking into the piece of armor. I prefer to attach my padding with velcro wherever possible, as that allows me to exchange and adjust padding size, thickness, and firmness for each troop. Should you gain or lose weight this will allow for an easy exchange of padding. Additionally this allows you to keep spare padding in case the one you're using rips or otherwise gets damaged. Strapping When you're too thin for your armor, it's easiest to spot the difference in mass between the armor plates, where you can spot the undersuit. Therefore you should aim to have the least amount of undersuit visible. Not only does that get you closer to an authentic look, but the armor hides your actual body mass better than your undersuit. A specific strapping that you can adjust is the shoulder strapping. By moving the chest and back closer together it'll be less likely for another to simply look through any gaps between your armor and your body. You might have to cut away from the neck area a bit more so your armor doesn't cut into your neck. Additionally you might face trouble regarding the ab-kidney connection. If you're fine with your armor overlapping (not acceptable for higher levels), you should make sure that the abplate overlaps the kidney. This way the overlap is less visible to others. Alternatively, you can opt for a rigid strapping for the connection, forcing it into position and shape without the body mass to fill it up. This can look strange when worn if you're a lot skinnier than the armor, but might work out well if it's not that noticeable. Additionally, this qualifies you for higher level approvals. I personally went for a rigid strapping that allows for adjustment. That way I can switch between Centurion level armor and what feels most comfortable to me. As you can see in the picture, the strapping consists of two slots and two ABS pieces that fit them. By making the gap in the slots the exact size as the ABS pieces it mostly stays in position when trooping. Lastly there's the buttplate to consider. Due to it's position, it's easy to see the inside of the buttplate if you're too slim. To avoid that you can either heatform the armor and adjust the curve to the rest of your armor, or you can have an additional snap from one side of your buttplate to the other, going across your body. This keeps the plate flush against your body whilst giving your entire lower torso section a better hold, as this past might slide down without the friction of your body preventing movement. V-tabs can help your buttplate stay in place as well. Paint To avoid people seeing the contrast between your undersuit size and your armor, it might be helpful to color the inside of your armor black to help your undersuit blend in. I personally haven't tried this yet, so I can't guarantee good results. Should I ever attempt this, I'll share my progress and let you know if it works as intended. Trooping You should take some time and a second person to help you adjust your strapping, padding and movements so your armor parts don't lock into each other. Especially the sniperplate can easily end up inside your thigh and cause you problems. Try out different poses that look and feel good for photos or videos. Additionally, make sure to carry some snacks with you if possible, for example by putting a pouch inside your chest plate. Many skinny people do not have many calories to burn or might end up with low blood sugar. Should that happen to you, simply eat a glucose, notify a handler or fellow Trooper and move back to the break room for some proper nutrition and some water. Here I've collected a few things that might be helpful to carry along: If you're too small and too skinny for your armor, you might want to take a look at the following threads for advice on how to downsize your armor: I hope this helped! If you've stumbled across some additional advice, please share it in the comments and I'll link your input here!
