Our role was that of a guard of honour. 10 Stormtroopers from the UK Garrison, followed behind the hearse on his final approach the to the church. On arrival we then carried on past to form an honour guard along the entrance as the attendees, family and finally Dan entered the church. Our job completed we retired to change and join the end of the service and complete our goodbyes. It was a privilege to take part in the days events, and I only hope Dan would approve. Thank you to all that attended online, Tuesday was surprised to hear how many of you there where, and how far away. Good bye Dan. We will miss you. Our June Newsletter is packed with information as we have plenty happening, so lets get into the update. New CRL and new section of our forums. In May the LMO team took a vote on where the Imperial Commando costume from the last two episodes of The Mandalorian Season 3 would live. Turns out FISD is the new home for this very cool looking costume. As usual we try and put as much as possible into the research and development of CRL's and as such we built a new section of the forums to house this costume which is a slight depart from the traditional mostly "Hard Armour" costumes that live within FISD. This new section has a gallery, section for build threads, a research area and much more. The plan is to continue to grow this section, fleshing it out with more vendors, hopefully some behind the scenes info and of course that good ole support you have come to know and love about our forums. Ultimatley, we will have a solid CRL, and already have a member 3D printing the armour and planning his build. There are more details on the new section further on in the newsletter, so please come take a look. While on CRL's, Pyre is almost complete. The CRL is written, just a couple more important photos to come from our builder, and off to the LMO office it goes for final approval. We are all very excited to add this shiny, gold clad TFA TK variant to our roster so watch this space. Some fun stuff to come Not only do we have a new merch run launching, some of the staff had a little in house design comp to come up with a few FISD Wallpapers for your laptops and home PC's. These will be available to all members only through the forum, and in a simple download format. Keep an eye open for the first release launching soon. The 1500! Each month we launch a catch cry as we move towards our goal of hitting 1500 members approved at Expert Infantry level. keep an eye open for these and announcements on how we are progressing plus there will be merch! The 1500 Strength in numbers! Until next month, happy trooping, building and helping others! With Unquestioned Loyalty Andrew Franke TK-11469 "Sly11" Detachment Leader Greetings Fellow Troopers! The Coin and Patch runs are finally complete I'm ready start the FISD Shield Pin run, the run is now open for a limited time, 10 piece limit, you can place your order here Run will close on 16 JUL 2023 or when the supply of pins is exhausted. I have contacted all the members that submitted on the interest thread (Thank you to @MaskedVengeance for the assist in sorting them out). And I have opened the run to everyone! There is a cap at 2500 pins, This run will be open until 16 July 2023 or once we sell out of pins. In other FISD merch news. Send me a DM or email me for more information. Also, we do have a several other merch items in the mix and we are excited to see how they will do, so keep and eye out for an interest thread or two in the next few weeks as well. Please welcome TK 88222 to the Stormtrooper Hall of Fame, May 2023! @tdurden Troop log can be found here. Well done trooper and congratulations! Two in a day is quite something! Keep this up and you'll have earned that badge in no time! Other HOF recipients can be found here. With Unquestioned Loyalty Jonatan Östling TK-23592 "Nairy" Curator Hall Of Fame Thank you to Luca "Morgi" TK-66744 for starting the FISD specific meme thread, you can find it here Currently as of 11th June there are 32,735 approved costumes in the legion, out of these under FISD there are 5,305 which is 16.2% of all approved 501st costumes. This percentage has been dropping steadily for the last few years, the larger the legion costume totals grows the smaller amount of TK's there are. As a comparison when I started we had just under 25% of all costumes in the Legion, that was almost 10 years ago. Some may have seen that we have just lost top position of detachment with the most amount of approved costumes, JRS has just passed FISD with 3 more, you can find a thread on the subject here It is still quite amazing that there are so many FOTK's compared to say Hero's or ESB's, many don't realize these version costumes can be achieved quite easily with only swapping out a helmet and a few other items, you can see which items in this comparison PDF Info can be found on the legion holocron New Forum Area and Costume We have now officially opened the newest section of our forums to house the Imperial Commando. Referred to as "Gideon's' Stormtroopers" by the makers of the costume, IronHead Studios, they are seen on mass in episode 23 and 24 of The Mandalorian An Eye For Detail I am always surprised of the level of detailing some members will go to and this is especially true with this build, Dave's "Helotech" TK98695 3D Helmet Interior is one of those builds, it is outstanding and deserves to be highlighted this month. His build started at the end of May 2022 and has just been finished (but are we every truly finish ) Well done Dave the finish is a credit to you. If you'd like to have a look at the rest of his build the thread is here Two new threads have opened up in the Vader's Valkyries help center if you are in need of help or can offer advice please post in these threads or send a private message to Vicky "Vicky_Velocipanda" TK50893 Valkyries help center: WEARING TK armor & Valkyries help center: BUILDING TK armor Celebration Picture Contest How do I enter? You need to be an approved TK. You can submit up to five pictures, which have to be taken at SWCE 23. You either need to be on the photo or have taken the photo. Every photo needs to feature at least one 501st Stormtrooper. All pictures should be of a reasonable quality, so please don’t upload them directly to the forum. Instead you can use a secondary platform like Imgur. You need to have the rights to the picture(s) and consent to having them shared on FISD Social Media. The contest is open for two weeks. Once the contest is closed, Staff will vote on the winner. Therefore, Staff will be excluded from the contest. What can I win? We are giving away one of the FISD Sweatshirts (size M), one of the 25th Legion Anniversary FISD Coins, and one Star Wars Celebration Patch to the winner. Additionally, the winning picture will be turned into a SWCE Badge Design, of which you will get a digital copy. Since we’ve all spent enough money on Celebration already, shipping will be covered as well. Full info here The contest will close on the 19th of June 2023, 12:00 GMT. CRL's Currently Under Construction Please see below the links for four CRL's FISD currently has under construction and discussion. If we managed to get any more under way, they can also be added to the active WIP list. Multiple EIB award recipients and info here NOTE If you are approved with a "2nd Version" of a particular costume that you are already approved with you do not receive an additional award, there is only 1 award issued for each costume version ie: only 1 x Hero, 1 x Stunt, 1 x HWT, 1 x ESB, 1 x TFA and so on. If you have a second/additional version costume approved you will see "2nd Version" and [APPROVED] added to the thread title, no additional profile stars (more info on profile awards here) For those of you who have a particular issue (or issues) before or after submitting for Expert Infantry / Centurion level approval, in order to get you an answer faster you can now privately contact the entire Deployment Officer team at one time! I completely forgot to update here after the armour party. I didn't even take any progress photos. All the parts are rough cut out. A few still need to be trimmed a little to size right. The few that are sized right I need to get out to the store to grab some sanding papers to sand down the edges on the inside so they aren't too rough, a suggestion given to me at the armour party that I hadn't thought of. My progress was more in learning what steps i need than physical progress. Confidence is rising. Just need more time to actually do things. I tried to ask questions as much as I could to pick at the depths of knowledge of the approved TK's that attended. One even had his kit there to look at. Where all his straps are, how the peices look together when not on a person, or attached to other parts. It was really helpful to see what the pieces look like alone.3 points

UPDATED with new photos/info. I was recently asked "What's the difference between the regular (Sterling) E-11 and the Bapty versions of the blasters used in ANH"? So, having some time on my hands this is what I have come up with. Is it the end-all-be-all of this subject? Not by a long shot, but it should answer the basic questions along with a few odd facts. If anyone has any input or corrections please let me know and I will update this thread as needed. Thanks for looking! The "Blastech Industries" E-11 While no one knows exactly how many were used/seen onscreen, these were real British Sterling Mk4/L2A3 sub-machine guns which actually fired 9 mm blanks from a shortened 34 round magazine. As seen in the 2nd image below this gave the actor(s) the realistic effect of responding to live fire (note the actual smoke coming from the barrel.... and the wince on Han's face). In some scenes the shell casings are seen being ejected. Red "laser" blasts were added in post production by "rotoscoping" each one by hand, frame by frame. Some didn't match up exactly, lol, but it was 1977 and who noticed? I certainly didn't, but it explains our legendary bad aim. To give them a more "futuristic" appearance, the prop masters added all manner of objects: 1. Hengstler counter model 400- Added to the left side behind the magazine, at least 2 versions of this were used in the film. Eagle only- I believe these to be the older versions, made in either brass or a base metal with 890 in the center. Wings are rounded on the outside tops and square on the inside. Eagle with HENGSTLER below it- There are 2 versions of this one. The "wings" logo on the older one have slightly rounded tops and are a tiny bit narrower than the newer version which has squared tops. Both have a smaller 890 in the center as compared with the older models. NOTES: Placement of the counter is ideally mounted slightly above the folding stock rail with the rear lined up above the stock bolt as seen below. As seen in the last 3 images below, the counter is angled and follows the contour of the folding stock. Although cool looking, the coiled wires connected to the counter/power cylinders were not seen in the film and only used on the Bapty version in promotional images so are therefore not "screen accurate". The counters originally had 2 small metal prongs (connector pins) attached to the front. Very few of these made it into any reference images, and were probably knocked off when holstering the weapons. 2. Power cylinders/setup- Unless they were knocked off during filming, these were present on all blasters seen onscreen and were mounted on top of the magazine. If you want to dive into this rabbit hole (and I highly suggest you do, it's actually fascinating reading) about the details I highly recommend checking out Adam's page here. You simply will not find a better reference, and it has everything you could possibly want to know (and more) about these mystery items! Side notes: 1. Some references state that the red wires behind the power cylinders were not seen on-screen, but in at least 2 scenes they were (photos 1-2). The first shows a Stunt TK holding his weapon with it present, and the second is from a photo where Luke is holding it, but I believe this to be the same exact weapon. 2. Ideally the cylinders/mounting plate should be parallel with the end of the magazine well, at an angle to the receiving tube (photos 3-4). 1 2 3 4 T-tracks- While the exact origin/source is unknown, these were 6 of these used to cover the holes in the shroud. They were made of plastic**, the ends bent over and inserted into the openings at the end of each row except for the bottom and row with the bayonet lug. ** Used on both versions, these should not have any metallic color showing when weathering your weapon. Scope- Both the Sterling and the Bapty versions used surplus WW2 tank scopes. While the 1942 M38 type was seen on the majority, 2 other models were employed as well. Note on the M19 model that the original hex nuts were used to attach it to the rail. M38 (1942) M19 (1942) M38 (1943) Scope rail- 3 methods of mounting the rear of the rail can be confirmed. The first (photo 1) shows the rear held in place with a vertical bolt/hex-nut. Photo 2 shows a horizontal version. Photos 3-4 shows how the Bapty's were mounted using a bent end and fastened with what appears to be a star-head screw. 1 2 3 4 The Bapty versions (photo 1) all had a 90 degree bend at the front of the rail while some others (photo 2) had none. Either is fine for all levels of approval. 1 2 Other items- This rectangular item on the top front of scope (photos 1,2 and 3) was seen on both the Sterling and Bapty versions in a few scenes. While it is not known exactly what these were, they appear to be a 14 prong IC socket. These may have been added to all blasters, but since they were glued on few are seen as apparently most were knocked off during filming. There is only one photo I can find of these mystery items being used, and both were located on the left side of the folding stock. The longer one was located toward the front and the smaller one toward the rear above the trigger guard. Many parts like the Hengstler counter and power cylinder set-ups were simply glued to the weapons, and during filming these were knocked off by accident (photos 1-2). Some were seen held on with wire or cable ties (photos 3-4). 1 2 3 4 The Bapty E-11: Because actual weapons were difficult to export between countries during filming (UK, California and Tunisia) approximately 20 custom made replicas were fabricated by the Bapty company (a UK based prop maker) that could be. Based on the L2A3, these were leased to the production to conserve costs, and since they were not actual firing weapons it saved additional money by not having to have a licensed armorer on set. These looked very similar, but what Bapty did (among other things) was to utilize the main parts and entire front sections of actual Sterling L2A3s, but replace the rear end with a custom aluminum tube (thus the rivet) and remove the ejector pin/grub screw from the magazine. Note that the cocking channel on both the aluminum extension (2) and original shroud (1) has been filled. Sterling grip/trigger Ejector pin/grub screw removed 1. No D-ring 2. Solid rear sight 3. Star(?) head screw holds rear scope rail directly to shroud (body) 4, Faux cocking lever 5. Aluminum billet (tube) replacing bolt/spring 6. Wood barrel (not seen) 7. Larger/rounder trigger guard 8. No trigger/mechanism 9. No retaining bolt/screw or emblem 10. Custom made smooth aluminum grip 11. 2 piece body (shroud) 12. Rivet (not seen on all models) 13. Trigger cover plate is different 14. Rivet instead of selector switch Two interesting facts: 1. While Bapty used real Sterling magazines, they cut them in half and used both sides. Some had the original end plates (photo 1), some had flat replicated plates (photo 2) and some just had wooden plugs (photo 3). 2. I have always been told that "There were no Philip's type screws seen in ANH", and having studied literally thousands of reference images I believed that to be true. Until now, when the Bapty cocking lever caught my eye (photo 4). There were 2 other versions as well, one (6) using a flat head screw. 1 2 3 4 5 6 IMPORTANT Even though I believe these were seen more than the Sterling version in the film, please note that the Bapty version is not permitted for approval at Centurion level.1 point

Hello fellow plastic army! Now that I've finished my TK Helmet interior build, it is time to start the next (and possibly last?) project for my TK. Hopefully this one won't take a year like the helmet... I'll be building the Blaster Factory E-11 and installing a BlastFX system. I don't think I will be building a particular screen used E11 (Han charging, Trooper guarding Leia, etc). My armor is based on Han's armor during Leia's rescue, so I'll lean more that way. I'm also not a fan of the crinkle finish. From my understanding, the ones used by Han for shooting were firing versions, therefor actually ex- British MoD Sterlings. The MoD ones supposedly were all smooth. The scopes are rough textured though. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I'll have to check the reference sources and come up with a mish-mash of a blaster that has components that I like. So far I have the following: Blaster Factory (warmachine) ANH Pro Kit https://blasterfactory.com/product/-e11-blaster-pro-kit-replica-special/ Blaster Factory Power Cylinders Shape B https://blasterfactory.com/product/e11-blaster-power-cylinder-shape-b-metalmite-capacitors/ Hengstler Counter - Real - Originally sourced from Blaster Factory. Only reproductions available on site now. BlastFX E11 system: I bought this about 3 years ago, so there may be newer updated mods or features that mine won't have. But I'm sure it will still make pew-pew and entertain the young and old.... Blaster Greebly kit from Joseph (if any available....) https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/50907-ot-e-11-greeblies-anh-esb/ 14 Pin socket if Joseph is out (or to add to 3 more E-11's) https://www.digikey.ca/en/products/detail/amphenol-cs-fci/DILB14P-223TLF/4292071?s=N4IgTCBcDaICYEsA2AjAjAFgA4FoxgGYAXJAMxAF0BfIA I know the "newly found" greebly discussion is a couple years old now, but I literally just stumbled upon it yesterday! The wealth of knowledge in this group always amazes me. If Joseph does not have any kits left I can easily order the circuit part and 3D print the other two components. I did note there are some minor differences in the 14 pin circuit piece depending on the manufacturer. The internal slots look different as well as some have lettering and numbering visible. I'll probably source extra circuit pieces to mount on my original plastic E11, as well as a couple crappy resin printed E11's I have. These will go towards a blaster charging rack display in the future. I do have to source (or just make up?) a way to install the BlastFX into the blaster. Most stuff I've seen basically shows a final finished product, but now individual components were installed in the limited space. They look good , wait to the final fit to see if more trimming or mobility cuts are necessary .1 point

Trimmed both thighs to the screen used dimensions and removed all return edges from the top of the thigh. Seems to fit much better and mobility is better as well. Should they be higher or is this a good height? Much appreciated!1 point

It's really up to you, I like using threaded screws/nuts, just helps if you want to make any fines adjustments, drilling out rivets are a pain, rivets are just what was used on the originals.1 point

Congrats, trooper! That is some beautiful armor, well done. Tracker updated!1 point

Slow movement last week but I think my patience paid off. Sadly, Diablo 4 and building Star Wars Shatterpoint stuff with a buddy got in the way of real progress so that is all I have to share for the week. I will review the chest & abdomen build once again in prep for weekend progress.1 point

The holes in the cap (red circle) can stay just where they are, it's just a matter of drilling new ones in the faceplate underneath (orange arrow) after shifting it into the new position. Since it looks like it only needs to be rotated about a 1/4 inch or so you shouldn't have any additional holes to cover. As Glen mentioned, the ears will cover them anyway as seen in the screen used example. If you have the overlap at the bottom, a rivet at the bottom will help keep it in place while you work on the ear placement.1 point

I had a question about stormtrooper armor. I'm 5/7 and really skinny. Would I fit a normal kit? Where would I find a kit for someone like me?1 point

Awesome! Thank you! I’ve been test fitting after removing more of the return edges and it’s fitting awesome. Much more comfortable! I’ll upload pictures soon to make sure it’s fitting better and try the same with the left thigh as well. Thanks!1 point

You may want to contact @justjoseph63 for one of his greeble kits1 point

Adding sides shims will help, you need to fill the seams with ABS paste for centurion Some armor makes are bigger than others, AM being the largest, thread here may be of interest1 point

Hi Marcel, and thank you for your EIB application! CRL and EIB Application Requirements: All required photos have been submitted, and on behalf of the entire D.O. staff we are pleased to welcome you to the rank of Expert Infantry. Congratulations! Other-Armor Fit/Assembly; In this area we review observations made by your fellow troopers and the DO team. Some observations may lead to suggestions to improve the overall look of your armor, and please keep in mind that we consider both text (CRL) and pictures (screen caps/reference images) when reviewing submissions. Just a simple adjustment here : The TD is a little high. It should be about the same height as the canvas belt. Your thighs look a bit wide at the top. This can be fixed by removing the back cover strip, trimming the thigh halves and glue the cover strip again. References Centurion Requirements: In this section we prepare you for our highest tier of approval. Because Centurion photos must show more detail than EIB, items pertaining to Level 3 might be seen there and not here and additional photos may be required. We try to point out all that we can from what we are able to clearly see, but the final accuracy is the responsibility of the trooper. CRL L3: The plastic shoulder straps need to be held down in the back via a white elastic band to the white fabric that connects/bridges the chest and back piece. Starting from the shoulders, The left shoulder bridge is slightly raised. Looking closely , the white elastic should be positioned holding down on the shoulder armor and bridge together Reference Images CRL L3: Ideally there no gap between the abdomen and kidney armor. Abdominal and Kidney Plate align horizontally at top. A single visible seam line is present. The Shims you added to the Kidney armor must be filled . You could use some ABS paste, sand a bit and polish. Reference images CRL L3: Rivets are equally spaced along the depth of the armor and about 10mm from the edge The rivets of the AB plate plate are too far from their ideal position. They should be removed, new holes drilled and the old holes covered with abs paste. It looks more complicated than it really is. If you need help, we are here to help you. Reference Images CRL L3: The large Ab plate detail shall be a separate piece attached to the raised center mounting area. Plate does not overlap the edges of this area and shall show a definite straight cut edge around all sides. Looking closely to your Large Ab Buttons plate, It looks to be trimmed offset, it's on an angle, eve though a little deviation could be acceptable, but, in this case it is quite noticeable. Trimming carefully the edge could do the trick. Reference Images CRL L3: The top of the ABS ammo belt should sit at or just above the bottom of the central and vertical abdomen button panels. A common solution to this issue is to use a piece of Velcro behind to keep the ABS belt in place. Reference Images CRL L3: Drop boxes are vertically aligned with the end of the ammo belt with minimal gap between belt and box. Your are riding a little high so they overlap the ABS Belt lower section. Reference Images CRL L3: The corners of the plastic ammo belt shall be trimmed at a 45 degree angle that that meets the outer edge of the cloth belt. A recommended fix for this is to trim the edges of the plastic ammo belt a bit to adjust it to those 45 degrees. Reference Images CRL L3: Lower thigh ridge joins (front and rear) shall butt-up flush against each other. Any gaps must be backed with ABS or filled as not to be noticeable. Looking at the back of your thighs, you have a small gap in the ridges. you can glue a small square of ABS plastic and fill with ABS paste, sugru or something similar. Reference Images Centurion is all about details trooper and this one is just a dressing issue , just take care every time you put on your armor that the Shins sits lower. Reference Images Your E11 Blaster Ammo counter rides a little back, you will need to re locate it a little forward. References CRL L3: The blaster may have minor weathering or base metal exposure however, T-tracks and grips shall be of a black plastic appearance with no silver/metallic weathering allowed. It could be a light effect but just in case, when taking the photos for Centurion , be sure the the grip shows black color in the surface. References That's all Trooper, perhaps it looks like a lot of work ahead for Centurion, but we are confident you can do it and we are here to help. Welcome to EIB ranks !!1 point

Ultimately, there isn't anything sad for FISD about this news, we know our costumes aren't cheap. As Glen mentioned, we are by far and above, the most requested character at events and troops and predominantly our members have to build/assemble our costumes rather than have them made by someone else. Our costumes take time and plenty of care to not only construct, but also maintain to get the best life out of them, and we relish in polishing our armour before troops. There is a lot to be very very proud of when it comes to our catalogue of costumes, loads to be very happy about and not to forget we have no less than four new to legion costumes currently under construction along with their CRL preparation. Just look at the motivation this whole event has created for us, and with these new costumes on top, even more will become Stormtroopers. So turn that frown upside down and get cracking on your new TK today1 point

I'm really skinny as well (177cm/51kg|5'10/113lbs), but with some resizing and padding I've been able to make it not only work, but even look proportional. Once you start building, just open a build thread and we'll be here to help. And some others have already posted some build threads that can help you achieve the correct height for your armor. You got this!1 point

Very interesting compilation. I would add the fact that they might have used both M38 and M40 scopes, as well as M19 and M32. And with M38/M40 there are 2 versions, 1942 version with smooth front foot and 1943 with curved foot. 1942: 1943:1 point
