  2. I have been working on the attachments of the arm pieces. Progress is still slow in the midst of summer, but I do try to work on it a little every day. So here is the progress over the past couple weeks. Here is why the wife is not happy as I've taken over the dining room table. I like working by windows instead of the basement on things like this! Bell to bicep strapping A little bit of everything getting glued And where I am today - the other shoulder bell strapping

  4. A couple of unsolicited but hopefully helpful suggestions: First is to get a heavier duty nylon webbing (echoing Doggydoc's suggestion), the thinner nylon you have will work but it's pretty flimsy, the heavy duty nylon is easier to work with and is much more resistant to the snaps pulling out. I made a hole template out of scrap ABS and used that to poke holes in the nylon with a soldering iron and it works great. An example of the nylon webbing I'm referring to: https://www.amazon.com/Heavyweight-Webbing-Inch-Strapping-Outdoor/dp/B09QJ4QZ5Z/ref=sr_1_8?keywords=nylon%2Bwebbing&qid=1658964809&sr=8-8&th=1 You can find it at JoAnn fabrics or a similar store if you have one locally, I normally use 2" wide but I do keep some 1" on hand too. The resulting snap plates I made for my kits: I've been quite satisfied with using the same thicker nylon webbing to connect my armor bits together, but I do use elastic at some connections, circled below. Flexibility is still great and the armor also stays together tightly. For the elastic connections I double the elastic over, sandwich a thin piece of scrap ABS between the elastic, and run the snap through those three layers. This allows you to unsnap the straps/connections easily and without stressing the elastic too much. Keep up the great work!!

  5. Hi Troopers, It's been a month and i feel I've hit a brick wall with my build, I reckon i'm about 90% there...just life has been busy recently. I did manage another test fit a couple weeks ago with good intentions to put a few things right, and my wife took some snaps of me goofing around. I do plan to put in some positive effort this weekend.

NEW Detachment Leader Just For Laughs Update Your Build Threads Around the Detachment Trooping INFORMATION & AWARD PROGRAMS Common FISD Acronyms and TK Glossary Pre Approval Forum 3D Section Field Exercise Award Imperial Attaché Program Fire Teams EIB & Centurion: What do these terms mean? Need Help Ask the Deployment Officers Advanced Tactics Awards Public Relations Staff List 2020 Follow FISD Welcome to the July newsletter, July officially closes out on the year long celebration of detachments 15th anniversary. We saw some great merch produced specifically calling out the milestone and I would like to thank everyone that had a hand in the discussions, design and helming of the merch runs. I'd also like to thank everyone who purchased anniversary merch and helped us get the word out of how proud we are to have made it this far. Here's is to the next 15 years I would now like to cover off on a few updates. Thank you to all that participated in the Members choice merch item for this year. looks like the Hoodie was a clear winner, so we will look to see how we can turn this into a reality over the next 6 months. James has allocated a merch slot to this item (we get 6 slots to use a year as per legion merch regulations) so consider it locked in. We may also be looking for some cool designs for this item, but James will work on that and any updates will come from him. I would also like to thank the members and staff alike that participated in our recent TLJ/TroS CRL proposed update Polls. Most found the various proposals made sense but there will be some more discussion around a couple of the elements before proposals are sent through to the LMO team. As per usual, once they do come into effect, any member in the process of a build that may be affected from a basic level stand point will have a 3 month grace period on the changes, but any new build will be required to follow the latest CRL version. While we are on CRL's there will be more work on a few new CRL's taking place based on the newer TV shows. As per the norm, we require members wanting to build these new costumes like the newer Remnant TK's, even the slight peak we had of the HWT seen in Obi Wan series, so you can expect to see a few new posts go live in the near future. CRL creation is reasonably straight forward on some of these newer versions of TK as we already have great base CRL's that can be used as the starting platform. If we don't have a person ready to build a costume, we don't have a CRL model. A CRL cant reach fruition unless it has correct images of all the parts represented by a CRL model, so It can't be created without those two major components. Also to remember, we need some good reference photos. Without those, the LMO team wont recognise a CRL possibility and we can't move forward. The old rule of thumb was a minimum of 4 images. Front, back, Left side and right side, clear screen images.etc This gives good coverage and highlights most things needed to visibly represent a 3D image of the character = happy LMO's, = happy member and DL. In recent times the LMO team have been a little more accepting of additional kinds of reference like Hot toys action figures, and to a lesser extent Black series figures (generally average detail compared to high end action figures). There may also be further exceptions to this like the potential for BTS (Behind The Scenes) information which in the past has only been used to improve on smaller unclear details on some costumes. Again this must all reach the LMO teams expectations and qualifications to allow a new to legion CRL to proceed. In essence, if we have enough acceptable references to clearly indicate a costume, then we are golden to move forward. New FISD Tri Fold Brochure We have just launched our newly revised Detachment Tri Fold brochure. It's been quite a long time since we actually had these available and since then many things have changed leading us to updating some of the text to include new costumes, and have more relevant information. Originally these were done in a limited run by the member who created them, but nowadays, we have moved this to a print your own service making them accessible to all countries around the globe. Files are available to all full 501st members on request, and are completed in a very high resolution to ensure quality in a finished product. The thread can be found here for more information and how to access the files. 7. thanks for the observations! im aware of the shoulder bells popping up, I’m looking into how to solve that. I am 6-1 so I probably will have a gap, back there, but I am going to play with adjusting the shoulder bridge size to see if it goes down some. And it should not have that slant… hmmm I didn’t notice the leg not being straight, it could be the knee was pushing on it…. I need to check that. I didn’t want to have to pull the knee apart as well, but after some in person expert input during this fitting it became apparent that I WILL be pulling it off and fixing it’s alignment…. more tuneups to come!

  9. Long long ago, Nikon had a really unique point and shoot with a rotating lens. I keep thinking how much fun it would be to hack one up and make it work in the electrobinocs. Coolpix S10 if you're wanting to search for it. It had a 10x optical zoom also.

  11. If I'm telling you the obvious here, my apology. But that's the wrist comm pad molded to fit on the back of the TIE bucket. I'm about 98% sure that's right. Not many of the original buckets had that feature and none were on screen but yeah. Almost certain that's just the comm pad. I remember seeing it in the big TIE pilot helmet thread on RPF. I'd link it if I could find it, but that thread is eluding me right now. If you're asking where to get a comm pad molded to fit the helmet like that, I'd have to plead ignorance. I bet that you can get a flat vacuum formed one to work on the back of the bucket with enough glue, heat, and love. -edit- Found what I was looking for. https://www.therpf . com/forums/threads/original-tie-pilot-helmet-roll-call.328895/ remove the spaces from the URL. It wasn't letting me paste. ... and now I'm wondering if I'm breaking rules by pasting an RPF link.

  13. @Scimitar there is no such thing as unsolicited advice on this thread! I need all the help I can get! Your comments and pics were super helpful. Just so I'm clear, are you using that same nylon webbing for the straps that you are for the snap plates? I couldn't quite tell from the pictures. Secondly, I haven't researched the shoulder pieces yet. I've noticed that you have some white material with the snaps. Is that elastic or plastic? I'm sure it will make sense once I get to that part!

  14. Forgot to mention the only down side to using a filler (especially different color) is the fact that you need to paint at the end, even ABS paste can need a touch up as once dry and sanded it can look a different shade of white. For any touch up's I like to use water based acrylics, it's very easy to mix and add a touch of brown, black or yellow to white (depending on the color of plastic) to achieve a close to color match with your armor color.

  16. You may need to add one. WALT may have overt rimmed unfortunately Some who have needed to fix there's cut a large plate and glue to the large ab, then fill the join with abs paste, then sand and polish This one was filled with blade putty (automotive finefill putty) It may not get picked for basic approval but will come up at L2 and L3 You could reach out to your GML and see if it can be approved how it is

  21. Whew, over a month passed. I guess I've been putting off this update since I didn't wanna be "done" and put the blaster on the wall until my BlastFX kit comes. But DONE comes for us all... so here's the Leia Leveller's most screen accurate form that I am willing to achieve. I got the banana bend in the rail and totally reshaped the nose to fit nicely in the barrel. It didn't take a whole lot of effort, but a bit more than was expected. I also got the greebs from Joseph installed in their spots... though I suspect the rear one fell off for filming and was originally farther back. Starboard side. I just love this thing. So pretty. So satisfying to hold. The port side beauty shot. I'm very satisfied with this. And I'll be even more satisfied taking it all apart again to put in the BlastFX guts. and lastly... My daughter put on my torso and arms and posed for me. She's 10. The plastic was uncomfortable and the blaster was heavy. I didn't get the rubber gloves out. But having this shot fills my heart with happy little laser blasts.

  22. It is great fun following this build and I really like how deep you dive into each detail. There is just one thing that stands out to me and I hope you don't get it wrong if I mention. The scope rail: if you shorten the vertical part on the front and give the full length a 'banana bend' it would better match the screen used rail. Again, I hope you get this as positive criticism. For the amazing level of accuracy you put into this blaster, I found it wrong to not mention this.

  23. That LOCK screw is so annoying. On this handle it tightens fully at FREE. Since I have to put electronics in it and wire stuff up later, I'm not gonna Loc-tite it on LOCK just yet. As for that red wire... not sure if it's correct, but it sure looks right compared to the screenshots. Trying my best to make this screen accurate. Onto an update! I got the power cylinder JB Welded into place. No going back now! But I can change out various parts of it. Next step was some T-tracks. I've never had to do these on any blaster before, so this was pretty fun for me. I snipped to 5x 6.5 inches and 1x 7.25 inches. The measurements worked well for this Fieldmarshall build. Work area. The snips help to re-angle the track cuts as necessary. They need a pretty sharp cut and most of mine were done too wide at first. Low heat while spinning to evenly heat all three spars of the Tee. If only the bottom gets heated, it won't bend... and will lizard-skin the bottom side. I used a small screwdriver to help shove the pliable plastic into the hole and it worked amazingly well. I was able to get a very sharp bend on all the tracks and most don't need glue. The top one looks a little loose because that's how it is on the screen version. You can see a little light between the barrel and T-track behind Leia. I tried to replicate that here while still keeping it in place. All starting to come together! The T-tracks and counter just add so much. I've started some light weathering to match the screen version as closely as I can as well. For the time being, I have the counter held in place with a screen-accurate wire. It's also supported by some strong double sided tape. However, the wire attachment creates the perfect height, position, and angle by itself. So very awesome to not struggle at the counter positioning. None of my other blasters have extremely sharp molds at the top of the scope. The accurate white crayon lettering is just chef's kiss. I also got the chip installed on top of the scope. I tried the socket only version first and then compared it to the height with a chip installed in the socket. I think the chip + socket is most accurate. Now I just have to figure out those wires running from the counter to the power cylinders...

  25. The rubber gloves is an interesting one. In summer here in Queensland, it is hot and humid, so I don't wear my rubber gloves. In winter I do. Recently one started to perish and became torn. Did that mean I could not troop even though approved at Centurion level!, of course not. Our higher awards are awarded to the "member" for making the additional changes to their armour. You carry this award for life regardless of weather you still own that particular armour or have made a few changes to it. Enjoy your trooping and make it as comfortable as you can so you can troop as long as you can.

  26. Of course Andrew, if we decide to do it we shall do it by the book. I will discuss with the Garrsion to see if we can form a team to do this, and if possible, all of the FISD CRL in the future, since we are not busy with trooping and events at least for the coming year. But small steps for the time being. Thanks.
