  1. Hello everyone! I'd been interested in joining the 501st for quite some time and finally pulled the trigger in January of this year with a set of 850 Armorworks Rogue One armor. I had seen one of your Boys in Blue White a year prior at the movie theatre when The Rise of Skywalker was released. After getting a picture and mentioning that I was interested in joining, @wingnut65 gave me his trading card. That card was on my refrigerator for the year as other home projects during Covid were getting done. And then, as I mentioned, in January of this year I finally put my money where my vocoder was. The armor arrived a couple weeks ago and I've already done some rough cutting work (and already made a couple requisite mistakes...) as I wait for some of my initial softgoods to arrive so I can get a better fit before cleaning everything up. But who are we kidding, enough talk. You all want pictures. This was the day the armor arrived, in all of its uncut glory. Since then, I've been slowly trimming the armor with lexan scissors and a Dremel, being careful to leave enough excess material. You know, except for that one time I trimmed all the excess off of one side of a thigh piece... But I digress. Here is where I stand now: A lot of the excess ABS has been trimmed and I cut the eyes and teeth out of the helmet so I could actually see what its like on my massive head. The helmet has a lot of work to go. In addition to all of that, over the past year I got into 3d printing. My first big project was to print my blaster using Blaster Master's plans. It's not exactly Rogue One accurate since it needs the added tactical flashlight, but it was 95% of the way there. I got lucky and happened across Droid Division's plans for the tactical flashlight. These are awesome plans that allow you to insert a smaller flashlight into the printed one so that it's both accurate and functional. I believe there's still some work to make it Rogue One accurate, but I'm mostly there. That's it for now. I have some preliminary softgoods and strapping showing up this weekend that I can use to start getting things fitted correctly and then any final trims before embarking on paint and detailing. Oh, and before I forget, if you've ever wondered what an expecting stormtrooper looks like, well now you know. More to come!

  3. Attention fellow troopers During the forum clean up process we have discovered many build threads that are affected by Photobucket watermarks and or broken image links and missing photos. Some of these we have been able to restore to their former glory, but others not so. Many of these build threads are very very good, and the levels of detail excellent for our new members, but due to some having upwards of 40 images, they are far too much work to attempt to restore by us. We are asking that if you have a build thread on the FISD forums that it may well be subject to the issues as mentioned above. If this is the case, you can expect your thread will be re-located to a temporary holding area called "Build Threads requiring Maintenance" and will be the responsibility of the original poster to fix the photo and image issues. These build threads will only be held in this temporary area for a period of 6 months, and if not attended to in that time frame will be permanently archived. All threads that are fixed by the original poster, will be returned to their rightful homes under the specific costume designation build threads on the forums. If you value your build thread and its information please attend to it before it is moved from view. Glen and I will start to populate the maintenance sub forum over the next few days. here is the link https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/241-build-threads-requireing-maintenance/ We appreciate your assistance with this, and hope to see at least some of these brilliant builds and history restored.

  4. Looking good so far, you do have quite a bit of space between your cod and body which also pushes your chest out so it ends up on an angle, you may want to try to overlap the sides and tape up again and just to see if it improves the look. Here's just a quick compare with a random EIB applicant

  5. Hi there. I’m new here, but not to costuming, I have a 501st approved (UK Garrison) TD and am currently building the Remnant Incinerator Trooper from the Mandalorian. I have received my R1TK kit from 850 Armor Works, and am printing a Nico Henderson lid. I am also printing the flamethrower and backpack. I have ordered the following to finish off the parts list: - Boots from Crowprops; - Gloves from Endor Finders; and - Undersuit and knee gaskets from Darkside Closet. Any tips or advice would be greatly received and is there likely to be a CRL available in the near future? I am following the R1TK CRL at the moment.

  6. Hey all -- Very excited to start my first-ever build thread. I'm a total beginner to this, so please feel free to chime in with any suggestions/corrections as I work my way through this. I bought the Doopy's kit and the @T-Jay completion set back in 2016, but unfortunately life got in the way. I'm finally finding the time to tackle this after doing quite a bit of research. I've really enjoyed @Altair's build seen here, as well as the overall guidance from the @FISD E-11 Reference Team seen here and hope to base mine off of their work (with a few additional mods). Below are all the pieces I'm starting out with. Despite having been with me for several cross-country moves, all of the pieces are miraculously accounted for! Resin freshly rinsed and ready to roll!

  7. Quite the machine shop you have there! I'm working on the exact same kit. You're definitely farther along than me, so I haven't started my build thread yet. I don't think anyone's going to be impressed with just my Velcro'd hand plate. Good luck!

  8. You will find that a lot of armor kits are not the same on both sides, just the way they are made. I must admit I've never noticed the slight angle on the ab/cod, but that wouldn't really make a lot of difference to the gap, it's not only at the cod you appear to have a gap, it also looks like at the top of the ab as it's pushing the chest out quite a lot. I have build an ATA for someone and did cut the sides down a little so it fitted better on the front. Try to overlap the ab and kidney when you have someone to assist then take another look.

  10. I am terrible at making costumes, so it will take a while For marko's work everything looks good to me, appart from the above mentionned air holes. The backpack is a great match IMO.

  11. I am almost through with the 3D printing, it's pretty accurate. I assume he used the hot toy figurine for the fine details because you can't quite make out everything in the live action scene (you see quite a lot, but the finer stuff can only be guessed really). The only issue is about the "air holes" (not sure how to call them) on piece F2, I am not convinced it's a match with the movie. The figurine seems to differ from what I see on screen, but again : it's a bit hard to make out such small details, even in 2K resolution.

  12. If it were simple, then absolutely, the stark reality is, there are hundreds of build threads that have been effected, hundreds, and there are not enough hours in the day to send everyone a PM. If we look at what has already been done as far as trying to resurrect just the threads with Photobucket images, 2 of us have spent the last year plus on this project, and there is at least that again plus some to fix those build threads and also finish the other sections of the forums in the clean up. Sure some of the more recent elaborate builds that we think are of great importance, we will be reaching out to those members, and some of those we have indeed already fixed ourselves, but if members choose to do nothing, then it's going to be the archives until someone has the time and patience to fix those threads. These are aspects that have been neglected for a long time, hence the monumental task we have now. I would just like to add that I have started moving threads to this new sub forum and started with the ANH armour. That forum alone is 60 pages long, and we go through every post to see what is good and what is not. 60 pages, with 25 threads per page. Now sure not every thread needs touching and i have started at page 60 (the oldest page) so you can get an idea from there how long just relocating takes, let alone having to fix photo bucket marked images with some threads having 50 photos in them.

  13. I'll be able to get a look at @Startide's build you mentionned in person tomorrow. I find it easier to check for accuracy IRL than with only 3d pictures ^^ But as far as I know, the files are pretty accurate. Maybe there will be some little details to refine but not much I'm sure.

  14. First of all, I highly appreciate the time consuming work in the background to keep this forum clean. Many thanks for that. Would it be an option to inform the owners of affected threads to make them aware of this move? Otherwise I could imagine, people miss the 6 months time frame and precious information might be lost.

  15. Someone has started on a build, I believe there are some 3d files for the pack and flamethrower although I've not checked their accuracy

  16. Someone needs to build submit a set of the armor first and get it 501st approved, but I'm not sure which Detachment the costume would actually be assigned to (it could theoretically go to the MEPD). I'm sure the pack would be required for Basic approval, and replicating that would take a lot of work. I'd sure like to see one, though!

  17. I trimmed off about 2mm on each side of the front as it looked like I had a bit to much of the edge showing with the cover strip on. Then I glued on an inner cover strip for more stability. I will glue the outer strip tomorrow. Is it ok to glue the outer while the inner hasn't fully cured for 24 hours, or should I just let it sit for the full 24? After trimming a little bit more off the sides Inner cover strip glued on Thanks, M

  18. Here I am again. I was first approved back in 2017 with a First Order Stormtrooper and given my 501st number. Over the years and other kit builds later here I am again, a newly approved with the Imperial Stormtrooper (ANH Stunt). During that time with many troops under my belt my journey has me living my dream and seeing the smiles that I can bring. It has been a totally awesome ride!

  19. Approved! TK-47501 Checking in! gmrhodes13 was correct in that my TD clips needed to be shortened, but that was the only correction that was requested. A quick snip snip and sand and I was done. I want to thank everyone here for your time, your experience, your knowledge, and your invaluable input. I couldn't have got this far without you. 20. OUTSTANDING post, Jason and very much appreciated. Your info and pics make the picture very clear, so mostly to recap: "Remnant" Troopers are distinctly different than any New Era stormtroopers we have otherwise seen in any of the new properties, and are acknowledged by LFL as such through licensed merchandising. Is it a DRASTIC difference from the standard, cleanwhite New Era Stormtrooper? No. But is IS clearly and consistently different. And should be accounted for in a CRL somehow, once someone builds one. I don't know how this process formally works, but we would propose a new Mandalorian "Remnant Stormtrooper" be created. However, suits which should be noted that are NOT substantively different are the "Rogue One"-style suits from Solo and the Mandalorian thusfar, and I think it is extremely likely that we will see this same style armor as the standard depiction of OT-era stormtroopers moving forward in all LFL productions. ANH is VHS, New Era is 4K BluRay. These suits also need to be accounted for - and I would second Jason and strongly suggest/propose doing so by renaming the Rogue One CRL something like "Non-Saga", "New Era", or "New Generation" Stormtrooper to include these other properties, as the IOC did to cover Staff Officer costumes from these properties with their Non-Saga Staff Officer CRL update. I believe the only change to the CRL (other than the name) would be adding optional accessories from the other properties (SE-14R and E-22 blasters to start, as there is clear reference). We believe there is enough reference material to support these proposals and people willing to create the new Remnant costume and separate CRL. So what else do we need? Let's make this happen, @Sly11! *Another note - the weathering on the Remnant is distinctly different than those for Sandtroopers - notably the black chipping seen. Also, no backpacks. MEPD can't have it

  21. I think it's fair to recap the discussion before I jump straight in to the good stuff. @Parquetteinitiated this conversation back in November 2019 with a simple idea: "I would like to propose a new CRL specifically for the Mandalorian TK." Reese did a good job in the initial post of pointing out the new series' use of both the ROTK costume, or "Anthology" as it's sometimes referred to, as well as a hybrid version consisting of ROTK armor and the OT helmet. This character, we have since learned, is referred to in the series and Disney marketing as the "Remnant Stormtrooper." Additionally, Reese drew comparisons to the FISD's use of multiple CRLs for OT costumes which have seemingly few differences. This initial post appeared to gain adequate interest early on, likely throughout the run of the first season, then lost a little steam. I attempted to resurrect the thread in September 2020, but like several other posts, it went off the rails a little and then fizzled out. Last week, @TheRascalKingasked a fun little question on the FISD FB page about "getting the SE-14R added as an optional blaster" for the ROTK costume. Justin prefaced this question by stating the popular opinion is that the costume presumably "isn't different enough from the Rogue One CRL to warrant its own," but then questioned that thought. We carried the discussion back over here in order to facilitate a back-and-forth in the appropriate forum, but after @Sly11 suggested providing side-by-side comparisons of the costumes, I felt it was about time to start busting out the screen shots I've been collecting and "hoarding" for the last year. Here we go... First, I want to preface everything with the understanding that costume designers probably don't expect people to look at things frame-by-frame and pic their work apart. That's not the intent here. Yes, it's possible that a lot of these things i.e. TKs in gray boots (Chapter 15), were thrown on the actors because it was what the department had on hand. Hence the terms stunt and hero. Many of these things were likely items that were expected to remain in the background; that's why I only try to point out things that are either "front and center" or used multiple times. Andrew laid out a few criterion for the costume to receive a closer look: 1. They should be different in several ways from the R1 TK, not just in carry. 2. If the SE-14R wasn't seen on screen in Rogue One, then it shouldn't be added to the CRL (which can be presumed for any weapon). 3. Add side-by-side images to help the staff make a determination. With those ideas laid out, I would like to officially second @Parquette's 'motion' to add a CRL for the Remnant Stormtrooper, but also introduce the idea of either renaming the ROTK costume to reflect its greater usage in the Star Wars universe, or add an additional CRL for the New Generation Stormtrooper. In this post, I intend to show how the Remnant is an entirely different costume than the ROTK. I will cover the New Generation/ Anthology at another time. I used the Pathfinder Detachment's inclusion of the Scout Trooper: The Mandalorian CRL, as justification for the addition of the Remnant Stormtrooper CRL. I would like to point out all the differences they discovered to show the similarities in what we're doing, but this post will be long enough without that. If anyone wants to look at this, I encourage you to view their CRL drafting thread found here: http://forum.501stpathfinders.com/index.php?/topic/21087-tb-scout-trooper-the-mandalorian-crl-drafting/ Yes, there are differences, but most are details such as weathering and wear, or the inclusion/ exclusion of parts such as a neck seal, different flight suit, vest and boots. The Remnant TK is very similar in that regard. I will point out the major differences, but since this should be a "crowd sourced" effort, I would like to ask others to join in as they identify other nuances. Remnant Stormtrooper: Let's identify what a Remnant Stormtrooper is. This will help to distinguish between the heavily weathered Remnants seen in service of The Client through season 1, those found on planet Morak in Chapter 15, "The Believer" and the clean shiny white TKs scattered throughout the two seasons working with Moff Gideon, and those potentially in the service of Grand Admiral Thrawn. One could argue this last point since canon has shown us the oft rocky relationship Thrawn has with his political peers. Whether Moff Gideon and Thrawn are allies remains to be seen, but I digress. However, Ahsoka name-dropping Thrawn in Chapter 13 "The Jedi" leads us down this path. The show has presented a distinct difference between the rag-tag Remnants and the more organized forces, but regardless, they're all Remnant Stormtroopers. Wookiepeedia breaks down several Remnant elements presented in both canon and legends. This info can be found here: https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Imperial_remnants Since all TKs remaining after the Battle of Endor are essentially Remnants, a new CRL would have to delineate which ones we're specifically talking about. But since the term remnant has been used both in the show, and in licensed products, the term Remnant Stormtrooper should be easy to distinguish. I've mentioned it previously, but toys are typically a good indication of LFL motives. To understand this, one should browse through the Lucasfilm/ Hasbro license which is neatly outlined here: https://www.jeditemplearchives.com/2018-09-16-the-cost-of-hasbros-star-wars-license/ Of particular note, one requirement for Hasbro prior to releasing toys, is that Disney/ Lucasfilm needs to approve everything. So, when Hasbro released BOTH an Imperial Stormtrooper and a Remnant Stormtrooper as part of their Mandalorian Black Series line, this followed Disney/ Lucasfilm approval of the characters and naming. FOR THE REMAINDER OF THIS POST, THE TERM REMNANT OR REMNANT STORMTROOPER ONLY REFERS TO THE HEAVILY WEATHERED VERSION AS SEEN IN THE BELOW PICTURES. First the toys: As a reminder, we've seen CRLs approved off of less: So, with it established that Remnant Stormtroopers are a real thing, we have to turn our attention to the differences not only as they appear on the approved figures, but more importantly, in their on screen usage. Again, as was the case in developing the Scout Trooper: Mandalorian CRL, there's likely several other pieces that aren't immediately noticeable and we need the community's assistance in finding the finer details. These are some of the bigger items that immediately jump out. Credit for these pictures go to their respective photographer. Overall Appearance & Weathering. ROTK and Remnant: The Helmet: First, for safe measure, please refer to @11b30b4's post for a OT vs. ROTK comparison: https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/48617-rogue-one-tk-vs-ot-tk-comparison/ Here's a few pics from Jeff's analysis of the two costumes: Now for the remnant comparison: Missing/ Broken Parts: Of course, there's scenes in Rogue One where the Stormtrooper's TD came off, but the Mandalorian was the first Star Wars production that clearly showed a TK using thermal detonators as a weapon. Additionally, there's multiple TKs with the same parts missing: Look at the wear on the rear belt. Unless this trooper sustained additional damage following the previous picture, this is a different TK with the same part missing. Drop Boxes, a major element of every TK belt. Missing Drop Boxes were seen on multiple troopers in season 1. Boots: Again, the costume designers likely used what they had on hand, but basic approval for ROTK states: "Boots are above ankle height and the same style as the First Order TK. Chelsea type boots in the style of OT TK are not acceptable." If not for the portion in bold, I would overlook this scene, however, the heeled Chelsea boots worn by the Remnant in the above picture stands as a big element. Accessories: The Mandalorian has shown the Remnant in possession of several weapons unused by TKs in the past. Most notably are the SE-14R and the E-22 blaster: As I stated in a previous post, I agree that if the weapon was not used by the trooper in production, then it shouldn't be carried as an optional costume accessory. But, if this is deemed to not warrant a separate CRL, we now have examples of the ROTK carrying these weapons on screen. I desperately want to carry a SE-14R and E-22 in my ROTK costume, but won't until it's approved to do so. However, that may come with a renaming of the New Generation costume. I'll cover that in my next post. I did this post just to get the ball rolling. These are some of the major items I've noticed, but when others jump in, I'm sure we'll start finding more.

  24. Or why wait? I spent a good part of the day trimming the ears again. I think they both look a lot better. For the left side (looking at) I really trimmed it done. For the right side, I moved it up as far as I could and trimmed it down. I'm really glad I didn't have to break out the second set of ears.
