  1. July 10, 2020 Part 3 of 3 I dreamed a dream. It is with great sadness that I must announce an indefinite hold on my dream to become a Stormtrooper. For financial reasons related to COVID-19 it appears I must sell my ATA armor (ABS only) in its current state. I'm hoping to get what I paid for it (around $540 plus shipping), but I'm wondering if the value of the kit would actually depreciate, or appreciate, due to the work I've already done on it? I'd like to assume it would become more valuable, in the same fashion that fully-trimmed kits are more expensive than untrimmed. For a detailed look at what state the ABS is in, see all my previous posts in this tread, as all my trimming has been photo-documented, and everything is in the exact state as shown in my images. To-date no pieces have been cut for sizing purposes, so the armor will still fit any trooper who would otherwise fit in a new just out-of-the-box ATA kit. Special thanks to @zv288bot, @Cricket, @TheRascalKing, @TKSpartan, and @justjoseph63, who have been with me on this journey since day one. These past eight months have been an amazing adventure, and I would never have made it this far without you. Thanks as well to Terrell (@SuperTrooper) for graciously dealing with my 39-message email string during the ordering process, as well as additional help and encouragement from @wook1138, @T-Jay, @ukswrath, @gmrhodes13, @Frank75139, @husky68, @Daetrin, @Sly11, @CableGuy, @Blast 'Em!, and also @magni and @CrookKnight from my HWT build. Hopefully all these tags aren't inappropriate—I simply want to express my gratitude and apologize for what feels like failing you all and not being able to finish what I started. This not goodbye. (I'm sticking around to put my gained TK knowledge to use helping other new builders pursue their dreams) I'll be back. (Someday. I'm keeping my soft parts for the long haul) Save the Dream. 2. I spent this past week patiently waiting for the gloss coat to cure. I was able to get more strapping details done, such as fine-tuning the ab suspenders and adding velcro to the inside of the limbs. I've decided to close the shins with a strip of elastic that has velcro sewn at each end, so I sewed a few closures together. Easy and quick, and should hold up well for trooping. Yeah, I know it still might be a while until then, but it's always good to keep looking forward, right? Yesterday I did a little detail painting on some black areas of the armor. I know that some areas are supposed to use black decals, but I've got semi-matte Testor's on hand, so that's what I'm using. I got the paint for the forearms and back plate done. Here's the back plate. So shiny! And the partially-completed shoulder bell elastics. I've got the snaps done inside, I just need to sew in the velcro into the ends (and yes, I know the straps are too long. I still need to take proper measurements for fitting.). Today I installed the screws into the thigh holster, and I am thrilled with how it now looks. So legit! I installed the hex button screws into the blaster and made sure that everything lined up. It worked! That blaster fits in there perfectly. Holding the thigh up here so you can see how it looks. Love this! Cameron is super happy with it as well, but I couldn't get him to stand still for long enough to get a pic with him wearing it!

  4. Seconded on both counts! I also cut my single-snap nylon tabs to more rectangular and give them more surface area for the glue to grip...

  5. Helmet is looking great. I do advise if not on all then on at least some areas to use double snaps, can save you from not being able to troop due to a snap malfunction, I've had a couple let go over the years and so glad I had spares

  6. My new heat sealing iron arrived, and with it, I finally tackled making the new return on the kidney. Here's an in-action photo, working on the first pass through: Here's a comparison photo of first pass versus second pass. The left is the first pass only, the right has also gone through a second pass. As you can see, with the second pass, the return edge lies much flatter, whereas the purpose of the first pass was to fold slightly up to the edges I marked with a pencil. The second pass's goal was to smooth and flatten. The full thing is filled with marks, indents and ripples. It is far from perfect. BUT I plan on cutting the excess return edge once I install brackets, and as long as the ripples aren't major, I suspect they will be hidden and wont interfere with how the kidney lies against the butt plate when they are joined together. If they are, I can remedy them with heat and poking with a popsicle stick, or something like that, to get the individual problem ripples to lie flat. There are a few cracks that emerged from heating a concentrated area and bending it away from an unheated area. This are also easily fixable with a generous amount of ABS paste. Going forward making the return on the posterior, I will know to be a bit more careful with how much I fold a given area at a time, as this can cause the plastic to tear. For now though, the kidney looks pretty level and the bottom, from the front, looks unproblematic. I am pleased with the results- I think it's the best I could have done... It only took HOURS It'll be worth it in the end.

  10. This is an All-In-One compilation of various resources for ANH Stunt Stormtrooper builds which will hopefully be helpful to prospective troopers as you get started and begin your research. Many TKs over many years have spent countless hours documenting their tips, tutorials, and builds, and this index includes posts and links which have been helpful on my own journey to the 501st. Printable PDF documents are included with select posts. 13. Heck yea. It should hold as long as you need it to, but can be removed if you REALLY want (use pliers, gently lol). I often scuff the surface underneath up to promote adhesion too.

  15. OK Sorry about the pics. Here are the close ups you requested. The hovi mics were painted by Dave Conklin as part of the helmet when he sent the kit (Dave's Darkside Depot). I think it was the position of the helmet when the picture was taken and the lighting. I'm posting left and right tips. Close up of the shim and kidney. They are inline and flush. As you thought, it was the angle of the pic. And last, the close up of the TD screws (single slot screws). I hope these help. Respectfully,

  20. Greetings Troopers! I know a great many builders use this awesome thread for guidance while assembling helmets, and since I love printed resources, I created a PDF document of Terry's tutorial. When viewed on a computer, and possibly other devices, the Table of Contents is clickable and scrolls the document straight to the selected topic. I've also compiled several other threads in this same fashion, and that post can be found in the Getting Started forum. I hope this can be helpful to anybody who stumbles across it!

  21. What do you mean by submissions being up? I’m not sure I follow. Does this mean that the first 1k have been filled? Edit: Nevermind, Caleb. I just say your post in your build thread. I’m so sorry to hear the news as I know how tough it is to have your sights on something and get so close to the finish line to have life interrupt everything. I hope something comes along quickly for you that may prevent you from having to sell your kit, but if not, I hope you get what you need for it.

  29. Pressure? Me? (Well, perhaps a little). I look at it this way.. Theoretically, HWTs are deployed directly onto front lines, where (unlike a TK stationed on a ship) we are exposed to lots of enemy fire from all manner of weapons. Having that extra weathering (battle damage) is part of what makes us unique (along with being able to carry BFGs, lol) which is why the CRLs require it at Expert Infantry level and above. Otherwise, you kinda' look like a first-time HWT that just stepped off of the transport ship.
    1 point
  30. Great to see another HWT build! I agree that having the back plate box fit within the indent on your pack should be helpful. As for the width of the straps, there are a couple schools of though. Some go for wider padded straps (think like a nice backpack), but to me those look a little out of place with the whole kit. The other option is a more narrow (1" or 2.5cm) strap which you could slip into the gap between your shoulder bridges and bells. This would hide the straps more, and also have them resting on your actual shoulders, versus on top of your armor bridges or bells. I myself am hoping to integrate a mix of Eric's 3D parts with my plastic containers and photo box. And finally, in regards to the pauldron, I think you'll just need to wait and see what the actual orange color is once it arrives. Photos can sometimes be deceiving, but initially the one you linked to appears a bit light. Keep up the great work, and don't let @justjoseph63 pressure you too hard into weathering your armor. Or perhaps give in and use the washable makeup method. Haha.

  36. I had a window of drier weather today, so I took the leap and decided to get things painted. I moved our cars out of the garage, turned on the new shop lights, and also turned on a fan because it was still about 90 degrees. But with the humidity at just 50%, I knew that I could get a lot done. The fan mostly helped to keep the overspray out of the garage itself. Here are all the parts on their hangers. I still had a few pieces to prime before painting. This was the "dry zone". Out of frame, and to the right, is another garage door opening. That's where I did my painting to keep the other parts free from overspray. After almost 3 hours, I suddenly heard thunder, and I checked my local weather radar. A huge storm cloud was headed my way! Luckily, all the parts had been covered with white gloss, and I was just waiting for things to gas off enough for the 2k clear coat. So everything went onto garage hanging storage at the back wall of our garage until the weather cleared up. I was pretty happy with how things looked at this point. The armor looked nice, and if I wasn't such a perfectionist, I could have called the armor "done" for white paint. I ran some errands after this, and noticed that the rain never happened. Realizing that I still had about an hour of time left to paint, I pulled out all the parts again, popped the 2K Gloss, and began to apply the final clear coat. And while I thought the gloss white was shiny on its own, the 2K Gloss was blindingly glossy! This stuff is remarkably gorgeous. In the pic below of the back plate with the 2K Gloss applied, you can see the reflection of my car. Shiiiineeeeyyyyyy!!!! And the chest is also just as glossy. Swoon. The pics don't really do justice to the shine on these parts, so you'll just have to take my word for it. I used 2 cans to cover most of the parts in 2K Gloss. I have two more, thankfully. I still have to fix some paint hiccups on the ab, belt boxes, and thermal detonator. One can should be more than enough for those. And I'll have an extra can on hand for future touch-ups. Now to wait for a week or so for things to cure really well. Then it'll be time to polish. I am thrilled to be done with the bulk of this part of the build!

  37. Okay, Cameron must be super excited today, because he let me take a few more pics while trying on the armor. And he looks happy in them, too. Bonus! I think I've worked out a good harness system for the most part. He says it's comfortable, and it's sturdy, so, yay! It all snaps out as well as being adjustable. I'll still be adding a cross strap in the front for support (when I attach the shoulder bell straps to the suspenders). I love how in the front view pic, it looks like Cameron is carrying Baby Yoda in a front facing baby carrier.

  38. Working in my nerd room today, and Cameron decided to wander in, pick up some armor bits and try things on. And he let me take photos of him!!! He is typically shy when it comes to photos, except when he's got a helmet or mask on. So, yeah, it's a big deal today. I don't have the chest and back plates strapped in yet, so he's holding things together loosely on his own. I even got the boy to crack a smile for me!!! He adores that blaster. Question for those of you who have strapped the FOTK... does the waist belt inside simply cinch around the waist? Or is it attached to the inside of the ab? I'm trying to wrap my mind around how it fits. I get the suspenders part, but I'm seeing that the suspenders are attached to the ab and a belt. Any tips or guidance is appreciated! EDIT: nevermind about the belt question. I think I figured it out.

  39. RPF too, I picked up my M19 there.. Failing getting hold of the originals there are some good casts around and a lot of the screen-used were casts, they weren't all originals..
