  1. So I set myself a goal to have my rough trim done on my days off this week, and well, mission accomplished. I know I need to take more off of the forearms and probably a few other spots, but I was going by the philosophy of "Can always take off material, can't add it." Thanks for letting me brag a bit... @justjoseph63 I'll be in touch soon.

  2. Okay, then! I made Pouch #1 today, and it wasn't all that difficult. This is the pouch that has the hard cover to it. I began by cutting out two rectangle shapes of black canvas. Then I drew "fold" lines so I knew where fold and where to cut. I don't have exact sizes that would work for all troopers, sorry. I've got this specifically sized to fit the smaller belt for this kit. I found a photo of what another trooper used to make his box pouches, and figured it would help as a guide. The two pieces are stacked here. I clipped them together and cut out the necessary areas. I sewed the two halves together, keeping the end of the flap open so I could turn it inside out to hide the stitched areas. Then I flipped it inside out to show the right sides. I worked on the corners to sharpen them up (forgot to take pics of that!). To the left you can see my prototype pouch. That pouch is just one layer of fabric, and I really didn't like it at all (even though it was much easier to sew!). Two layers adds nice bulk to the pouch and helps it keep its shape. Before proceeding any further, I realized that I needed to sew on the belt loop. I folded in a piece of scrap black canvas, tucking in the raw edges. And sewed it together. I trimmed it down to fit the belt and pouch. Here's what it looks like when attached! I sewed all the edges on the inside, then flipped the pouch out to hide all the stitching. Here's the result: a boxy pouch. I made the front flap roughly the same size as the plastic cover piece. That just made more sense to me. I will be gluing the plastic part on the flap once I get it fully painted. I'm guessing it looks okay? Feedback on this would be appreciated!

  3. Finally getting some time to work on this, but now at the painting phase and white seems to take forever to cure. Wasn't too happy with the chrome I used on the other blaster, so this time base coat of black.

  5. Got the 20mm inner cover strips done from scrap material. They are thinner than the outer cover strips which I like. I will begin gluing this weekend.

  6. Alright, I did a lot of sanding, filling holes in ABS paste, sanding again, filling holes, etc... I now have 2 mostly done shims. They are fairly shiny and nice, but they aren't perfect. What do you all think? I tried to capture the shine, right on top of the not as shiny spots. There is a little different color there, some of that is from the NOVUS polish, the rest... idk, I'm guessing that the white ABS paste had some pencil marks or something else in there so it's a little off but most people won't notice. Here are the pics. well... I'm done with this for the night... I think. lol

  7. Hi Guys, arrived 2 days ago from RS Prop Masters, those guys are Legends, perfect fit, as for the Brian Muir signature helmet !!! its mind blowing. First rushed fit, thigh armour definitely too high. I will upload more when I have chance. Thanks, Eric.

  8. Hi all. Just received my TK ID tonight! Absolutely thrilled to be part of the 501st!

  9. Hi, my name is JR and I'm 22 years old. I've been looking to join the 501st for years, having met some members from the Dune Sea Garrison (I live in Arizona). I'm currently waiting for approval to be able to access the Dune Sea Garrison forums so I can ask various questions about the garrison there. In the mean time I was hoping to get some advice from here. I've been following TK 1636's videos on youtube to get a better grasp of the building process among various other youtubers. I'm a bit of a larger lad being 6'1 about 240lbs with a 38" waist, gonna try to cut that down a bit though in anticipation to eventually trooping. After doing research, deciding on the armor, then doing more research and settling for a different kit, only to do more research... I think I have come to the conclusion that I would like to go for an Armor Master ANH derived TK. I've read that it suits larger troopers and fairly easy to assemble for noobies such as myself. I wanted to get some opinions before I take the plunge and send the email. Thanks!

  11. Just a tip, once you have taped up just hit it with a quick light coat of white first, any bleed areas in the tape should then be filled with white and not allow other paint through Good luck, again crossing my fingers all goes well

  14. "Display only"... someone will troop it. I guarantee it. You all better act fast before our replica guys buy them out.

  15. Looks great! Another trooper pointed out that making a box (ABS sheet) to fit inside will help it keep its shape. You can also use hard foam for a fit it and forget it. If sized right, perfect for carrying trading cards. Maybe industrial velcro to attach the plastic cover to pouch in case you need to clean or replace? Keep up the great work, hope to get a pic at a future troop with mini FOTK.

  16. Hi there! After years of having the Anovos pre-ordered kit sitting in the box, I am finally getting at it and building my ANH Stunt TK (going for Centurion)! These boards have been a great help so far and you all have helped more than you know already. I can't wait to troop alongside you all in the Southern California Garrison and around the world! Thanks so much for having me and for all that you do! Luke Here is a link to my build thread:

  18. I'd like to do the helmet first! Michigan had a ban on certain products issued due to COVID 19 so I have yet to obtain my paints and glosses to use. I want to start, but due to COVID I am out of a job, so I've been focusing my time on alternative income with my 3d works. I also am in contact with someone who might be able to 3d print my Phase 0 darktrooper armor I modelled out, so perhaps after this is all over..... I'll have two kits i have to build! haha

  19. Hi Luke, Don't worry about making questions, we love questions, photos and help others so keep on making questions and posting photos. For the Shins , you can leave a small return edge at the top and they don't have any return edge in the botton as you can see in the references. Cheers.

  22. Great Paint work Caleb ! I'm not sure if it's a light effect or my eyes ,or maybe both ,but it looks like there's a bit of paint between the white area as shown and ther's still a small paint detail that I would suggest to take off, just a toothpick with mineral spirit, no acetona, and it is. looking good so far,

  23. Thanks everyone! I'm making great progress so far and will continue to keep at it! Thanks for all the kind words! I'm having a blast looking at all of your builds. There is so much great information on here and you all are real pros.

  24. Same old story here! 40 y/o man child who grew up on and with Starwars! I work in the Emergency Room at a local children’s hospital and ran into a few of the local members cheering up the kiddos. That’s when I knew I wanted to join the cause!! So looking to build a kit!! 27. Any glue seepage can be removed by rubbing it off with your thumb. You may want to carefully score along the seam with a razor knife first to get a clean line, though. Groovy like Greg Brady, Luke. (Hope that reference didn't go over your head, lol). A few had the pointy piece to some degree, but most were more or less rounded off.

  28. Good luck to you! I've not seen anything like this, it would be interesting to see. Most of use get vacuum formed ABS armor from one of the approved vendors. But if you've got the skill, give it a shot and check with your GMO to make sure that it will get approved!

  30. You would have to follow the CRL's and be very close to what is seen in them https://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:TK_anh_stunt Ultimately it is your GML (garrison membership liaison) who gives approval so I would reach out to him/she in your area, you can find a list of garrisons here https://www.501st.com/members/displayUnits.php

  31. So, Monday I sanded and Tuesday I sprayed. It was my worst coat yet! Lots of wrinkles, everywhere. It always seems to be my second coat that gets messed up, and it seems like the most likely cause is that the first coat isn't dry enough. Even though I've waited 2 days, maybe it just isn't drying in my garage. I'll start moving it outside into the sun, at least after the first hour so stuff doesn't get stuck in it. Today I wet sanded the whole thing to 400. Then washed and cleaned, then sanded a few more spots, washed and cleaned again. I wiped it down with my new microfiber cloths and I'll leave it until Friday. I went through 2 cans already and I'm not even done with the helmet!? I ordered more and they get in Friday. My new plan for painting: keep applying light coats until it's done, without letting an hour go by. Hopefully that way I won't have to worry about waiting 2-3 days to apply another coat. I have some ideas for how I'll do my strapping, once Jim's armor gets here. I'll post my potential process soon and ask for input. It'd be nice if I could meet up with TKs nearby to physically see some methods, but that's just not gonna work right now...

  32. Honestly, Jonathan, I don't think you'd be able to get Legion approved in self-made PVC armor, but perhaps you're a skilled craftsman, so don't let my words dissuade you. That being said, the closest thing to a template you might find will be some for EVA foam suits which some Troopers have made for their children who can't yet fit in full-sized armor. I don't have any template links at the moment, but I was able to find some build threads by searching. My recommendation would be to go with ABS armor, and you can find vetted sellers at this link below. If cost is of concern, then you may consider ATA Works, as they are priced on the lower end. MTK/Trooperbay is another option, and I know Mike was recently running a sale. https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/11538-the-various-types-of-armor-and-where-to-find-them/ I hope this helps! Good luck with your build!

  33. Maybe not the model I got printed, but I'm getting another model fixed up to be sold (Needs some slight edits and removing the Rogue One elements, also chin has been changed already to match more), but that'll be close to the builds completion.

  34. Hey Luke, I'll chime in and recommend going piece-by-piece for your return edges. I'm approaching it as you proposed- using fit to determine how much (if any) return edge I keep. I started with around 5mm of return edges for all pieces, and I've been modifying that amount right before I glue pieces together. Joseph has a great resource for return edges in his signature (Return edges 101) that I heavily relied on. Like you, I'm currently working on my Anovos kit from their initial run so I'm happy to share what I've learned over the past few months. Good luck bud!

  35. Hi, the first one is better. more screen accurate and for L3. I would recommend to use painter's tape to make the first fitting test. Arms, thighs, shoulders etc. Cheers

  38. More the less the same, there are a few details which are different and both CRL's have undergone updates recently, have a compare of the ANH and ROTJ CRL's http://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:FISD_CRL Also have a read through this comparison sheet https://drive.google.com/file/d/10tEVteIreh6AHMogW010cuH_Bf8TBfU6/view
