Here is the right ear installed. Still needs painting. Thoughts? I may tweak the gaps if I can, but I don't want to screw it up too bad. I'll try and do better on the left ear which is being trimmed now.2 points

This kit is approved! Chris received his formal 501st approval for his very first costume this weekend. He chose TK-10441 as his ID since it's similar to mine (TK-10401). He is thrilled, and I've nudged him to get himself introduced here in the FISD and also at the Georgia Garrison forums. I took some additional photos of him in kit on Saturday. Unfortunately, I don't currently have access to the pics I took with the Fuji X-T3 (which looked amazing, I must say!), but I managed to snap some with my cell while we were wrapping up. This looks like something you would see in a brochure of the Stormtrooper Retirement Benefits package. And some extra shots of the kit. I like to continue to evaluate the fit of the kit not only by watching how it moves when being worn, but also in candid photos after it's been worn for an hour or so. These kind of pics help me really see where things might need adjustment. Overall, I'd say it doesn't look too shabby. I see that the left thigh rotated out, but that's an adjustment of the elastic sliding on the garter belt. And maybe I could loosen the elastics on the drop boxes by a few millimeters to reduce some of the tension that causes them to angle out slightly. I might still shorten the forearms a tad, and trim the left and right of the chest plate a bit as well for comfort. Despite those things, I'd say this is a wrap. Wouldn't you say that this new TK looks supah-happy?! His first troop will be at the DragonCon parade at the end of August. I can't wait for him to experience all the awesomeness that is being an approved TK! Thanks to everyone here at the FISD for your guidance and feedback as always. FISD is Best Detachment!2 points

TRamp is a standalone unit, no phone. You might be thinking of TrooperTalk?2 points

Roger that! I'll give them a trim and post back. No worries about the delay - I was on vacation these past few days anyhow! Thanks!2 points

I decided I am going to try and make the pieces I thought I messed up work. Starting with the chest plate. I hot water bathed it closer to its original position. You can still see that the left shoulder tab area is still a little wavy/wobbly looking but I realized that the shoulder strap will be covering it once I glue it on. Back to where I left off on the build: Continued to make progress on the shins. Sized the shins and cut the excess plastic from the back. Unfortunately, though I tried my best to measure a straight line and measure twice, it did not come out perfectly. The backs for both shins meet at the middle but the "line" is not perfectly straight and slightly curves near the bottoms. I was able to visually correct this by how a positioned the back cover strip. I also hot water bathed the shins to make sure the backs naturally meet they way they are supposed to. If everything is good when the glue dries then all I have left to do is decide on what strapping system for the shins and then work on the sniper plate for the left shin.2 points

Hi all, Well, I put my new lid with my armour yesterday and I’m really pleased with the colour match. There’s certainly a subtle difference, however, there was also a different in ANH between armour and lid. So, I’m happy with that. And yes - I need to re-paint my ab buttons...;-)2 points

Hello there. I have been an Active member of the 501st since November/December of 2016. I have done many troops and many costumes since joining, but finally got around to doing a TK. So, I am honored to finally be a Detachment member and look forward to getting to know you and trooping in my TK.1 point

I sell 6-x3/8 with my brackets. Still a little larger than movie accurate but close enough for government work. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Slotted-pan-Head-Sheet-Metal-Tapping-Screw-Stainless-Steel-6X3-8-Qty-100/261584094669?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l26491 point

I use the iComm with the audio systems I sell also. Though not quite as loud as the Tramp everything is contained in the helmet which makes it convenient. Here's my sales page and website. Hi Ian Forearms - check! TD: Trim down the end cap to match visual reference. Remove that small black line on the TD, the recess is to be white. Take a side photo as there also need to be a small section of black around the base of the left extended cap as seen below. Cod: Here´s a nice reference image from a Centurion approved TLJ. Keep going Ian - you got this1 point

Hey Derek glad to hear you're enjoying your TK journey. HWT is a small group of elite troopers and were looking forward to seeing added to the ranks. Let us know if there's anything we can do to help you get there.1 point

Looking great Jennifer. Good luck with your L3 application. See you on the other side1 point

Jennifer, looking at your forearms it looks like you have a little return edge , I would suggest that you may want to remove it. just a couple of minutes of work to sand it . as the CRL states: OPTIONAL Level three certification (if applicable): No return edge on the inside of the front of the forearm is allowed. Cheers1 point

Very rarely. My speaker goes behind my chest plate facing outwards and I judge the volume on the day. There’s another video on my channel where I kit up and use it, so you can see where it goes. :-)1 point

Update: I was just approved for basic membership! Waiting on my TKID now! Thank you all for your tips, pointers, and overall help, I owe you one!1 point

I’m a Tramp and can recommend it. Sounds great, works easily, holds a good charge, excellent service. :-) Here’s mine in action;1 point

Quick update, I’ve improved the TD (I think!) also the wrist armour as requested. I’m doing a full kit up at my buddy’s tomorrow so I’ll do all the others then. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

If you mean Icomm I've had one for 7 years and still going strong, I did have to add an external battery though as the internal died and couldn't purchase them locally, an external 3.2V AA rechargeable battery does the trick. You use the Icomm with and Aker amp 10w 1506 usually found on ebay for around $35. I've heard mixed reviews on the Tramp but I think it comes down to the initial setup on your phone.1 point

I've not heard of MiCom do you have a link. Tramp's Paul is a personal friend so I'm biased but it does get excellent reviews (I don't actually own one). Tad on the spendy side but he looks after his customers.1 point

Good news everyone! I beat my OCD down enough to just start gluing already. NOTE- I took your advise and I now have very little return edge at the upper end of forearms. Question about when to shim and when to not- Is ANY gap allowed at the back? (UNDER the cover strip obviously). As in- the only way seen would be maybe from a top view or with the forearm armor off. For example- Say the literal difference between pinching to comfortable is only this much of a gap. Is it worth adding a shim? Note my wrist is fine, its literally only a tad too tight at the literal top of the forearm. If there's enough material for the E6000 to grab the cover strip and if I make the back cover strip cover the full length, is this a problem?1 point

Nice work trooper, a couple of things you could adjust to make it look really awesome. Shoulder bells could be lifted to match the yoke, you can add tabs which will help this Your TD has a large gap and some strapping/fabric can be seen from the side, appears it may be sitting on your belt. Butt plate is also being pushed backwards, not sure if you can adjust strapping to bring it further in. Also the holster needs to be functional so if it is you will need to provide photo of it in use, from the CRL: Holster must be usable. A few other photos may be needed: Both sides with arms up Neck seal Interior strapping Good luck with approval1 point

It is not a requirement at any level for HWT, Derek. Yes, they were pictured the game (which this costume is based on) but they were sort of semi-circular in shape. Requiring one like that is impractical, just as wearing one is with the pack as you mentioned. There are a few HWTs who can wear one (mostly taller troopers), but I would omit it.1 point

If you had seen the Legion TK profiles back in they day, it was not uncommon for older Legion members to have their official 501st profile photo with a pauldron. Thankfully FISD played a very big part in getting that changed.1 point

Great build and Basic is a given Not too sure about EIB/Centurion though, the DO.s are quite picky….1 point
-
Hi again Looking at your forearms it appears there´s some return edge left, I looked at your EIB and the lighting in that photo was different so that´s why I didn´t spot it there.1 point

Hiya, No one is really 501st approved, however Troopermaster makers beautiful Hero helmets. If built correctly, these can easily reach Centurion. :-)1 point
