There are people on here with a LOT more expertise than I have! However, I did get there and I want to just give a tip synopsis of things that are valuable to me. These are tips for those just starting. Much of it can be found on here, but here’s what I wish I knew at the start, with my own personal spin on it, from experience or from a lot of digging in the forums. Of course, some things you’ll still have to figure out for yourself…I wouldn’t take that from you! A million thanks to the FISD community. I owe realizing the dream of proper TK armour to you all! Helmet: Don’t rush it. Everyone’s been looking at this helmet for 40 years, and when it’s not perfect it doesn’t look completely right to people, even though they can't peg quite why. The look and consistency of the original costumes was really quite amazing, overall. Things to hyper focus on … the eye holes and the teeth. Eye holes…I often see people not taking enough out, or crooked lines. Slightly crooked can be cannon I guess, in some examples, as some of those eye holes were a bit messier than others. Sand and look. Sand and look. Teeth…people often make them too long and too square. I initially used a dremel, and then refined with hobby files. Compare them constantly to the movie worn helmets. If you make your teeth right, your helmet will likely stand out as an amazing example! Return Edges: People seem to have a desire to keep return edges. This can create fit, shape, and wearability issues…plus it just doesn’t look “cannon.” Again, look for the screen references. The return edges are often much much smaller than we’d all first think, and often there aren’t any at all. For instance, people often want to have too much return edge on the top of the butt plate, or any at all on the other edges of it. This will give you “trooper dumpy butt” I call it. Again, screen reference and look at the best Centurion submissions. Bending ABS: I know some people use a heat gun. This is outside of my comfort zone. Too many horror stories. I did a lot of bending to get things where I wanted them to be. FYI, I was able to accomplish this by pouring boiling water from a kettle on the parts I needed to bend, and applying a plastic clamp for the weight to apply the bend force. When it was where it needed to be, or just past actually (it goes back slightly), I'd immediately put it under cold running tap water. Sometimes I had to repeat this process. This worked perfectly, on 1.5mm ABS. My Favourite Build Resource: Centurion submissions! The build threads were cool, of course. For me, the single biggest help were the Centurion Submissions. So much detail, and real life scrutiny of what you eventually want to have. Specifically, and this is really important, find submissions of your armour make (RS, ATA, etc.) with someone who is approximately your height and weight. That’s a huge help. Glue: I read a lot about E6000. I was unsure about it, as I heard about how bad it smelled and how long it took to cure. The smell does go away quickly. I couldn’t recommend it more. When you wear your armour, it will flex, and there will be times where it may be called up to really flex. CA glue does not allow for any flex at some points on your armour that have a LOT of tension. E6000 is a way safer route to go. Plus, if you make a mistake you’re not hooped. I can’t imagine using anything else. Also, people talk of 12 hour cure times. On anything that has a bit of tension in it you'll need to go 24 hours. Even then, I put it over a forced air heat register (in cold months). If you push short cure times you'll eventually get some separation. Not fun to go backwards! Cover Strips: I did not use interior strips. I’m not saying you shouldn’t do it. It’s all about preference and comfort level. In my experience, if you do your outside cover strips properly, your armour will absolutely be strong enough, and you’ve just saved yourself an incalculable amount of work and curing time, in what is already a long and arduous process. When using E6000, it is VERY important that you glue right to the very edge of the cover strip where it touches your armour. You want some bleeding out. Most of the force is at the edges. When you clean the glue that has pressed out, if you happen to peel even a fraction of a mm from underneath the cover strip, you can expect your cover strip to come away at the edge at some point. For some people that’s not an issue...lots of people with cover strips that aren't consistently flush and in full contact. For me, I need to have my cover strip in complete flush contact. Better to leave a tiny bead of E6000 at the side edges of the strip, than to completely remove it and have separation. Strapping: Tandy snaps are the best. Reading other's horror stories, I'd go as far as to say essential. To keep gaps very minimal, keep the snaps very close to the edge of each piece of armour, and make the strapping tight. It will stretch and it’ll always seem like you’re making the strap to short at first. In fact, even then you’ll likely eventually make them shorter. I tried elastic strapping and I hated it. It flexed better, but the gaps were a mess. So, for back to kidney plate to butt, I changed to nylon/no stretch strapping. Nice and tight with almost no gap! I just used flexible straps from the chest to ab. Even those, make them shorter then you think you need them, or you’ll have issues with your chest plat ending up under your ab plate on troops. They’re expensive, but buy lots of extra snaps. Don’t be afraid to scrap and start again on strapping for bits that aren’t cutting it. Likely will be shortening at some point. Don’t use velcro for anything that has a lot of force, torsion, or will do any pulling away. The only place I have velcro is for my wide white elastic at the shoulder, from my bicep to forearm connection and for my shins. They work great in those applications only. Even then, use the industrial strength velcro and E6000 it to the ABS or to the strap. Don’t rely on the adhesive that’s already on there, especially on the strapping. Armour ABS Thickness: I have 1.5mm ABS. It’s extremely durable. I don’t worry about it cracking or breaking. I’ve felt others' 1mm ABS armour, and I'd be very nervous with it. Cutting your ABS: Score and snap is your friend! Again, it’s comfort level with how close your willing to go to the final line. Take your time (can’t stress this enough). A dremel to clean up a line and shape a little I think is very necessary. Then, I use a 180 grit sand paper to smooth, and finish up with an 800 grit to make the edge shiny and smooth. Boots: You can research and research, and the conclusion that you’ll come to is that Imperial Boots is pretty much it if you want proper high quality boots at the time I’m writing this. The good news is that they are really really good guys and they do an amazing job, and they’re worth the money and wait. On the wait … plan on getting your boots early. You could end up waiting almost a month for an ordering wave, and then another month for processing and shipping. Don’t be sidelined like I was for 2 months because I wasn’t proactive with this. On fitment ... I did the prescribed, order a size bigger. Out of the box they were a tiny bit loose. However, I put in gel insoles, still leaving the original insoles in, and they're absolutely perfect! Wouldn't have them any other way at all. Check out your local fabric store: You’ll be surprised how much of what you’ll need you’ll find there, and for cheap!! Neck Seal: Do not buy one that has rigid metal wire running through it. They’re a nightmare and you won’t even be able to look down while putting your armour on without breaking your neck. Buy a completely soft ribbed one only. Learn from my pain. Literally. On another note, does anyone want to buy a wire ribbed neck seal? Special price! Helmet Cooling: For helmet, like others, I highly recommend dual 5 volt blowers and a usb battery. You can get all of this super cheap on eBay from China. Will last hours on one battery. When the battery is new, charge and discharge it a couple times to make sure it’s not defective. You don’t want a lithium-ion battery lighting on fire when it’s next to your head! Seriously. Audio: Whatever audio solution you choose, it’s imperative that you have sound dampening in your helmet. All plastic surfaces should be covered. I used sticky back 1/4 inch thick x 3/4 inch wide foam. This should almost completely eliminate most feedback for most setups. If you still have issues, put a bit of foam inside your chest plate at the top, to prevent sound from coming up into your helmet (thank you BDWC for this tip!). Lastly, whatever audio solution your pick, it needs to have the static burst after you talk, at a bare minimum. FYI, I use an Aker amp and mic, and the TrooperTalk iPhone app. Blaster: You’ve spent all this time, effort and money on your armour. Amazing! Now don’t fall short on your blaster! The idea of doing your blaster right can be a bit scary, but you can do it. Actually, if you do it right it can be the most fun part of your custume to make! I did DoopyDoos. It’s an amazing resin casting, it’s cheap, the shipping is fast. They have horrible communication but they get it done. The FISD E-11 Blaster Reference thread is amazing and the build threads by Cable Guy and T-Jay were very important to me too. If you do your blaster right, then you really do feel like you’re back on the movie set in ’77…you’ve gone that last mile on your costume! Thermal Detonator Screws: What a freaking pain! Did you know that the planet earth pretty much stopped making slotted screws? And for good reason! If you do find a slotted pan-head screw, it’ll likely be a threaded screw—which means the only way to make it hold in the PVC is to glue it. So, after much much searching, I found a slotted wood/metal screw, but it had a domed head—not CRL Lvl 3 kosher. Again, dremel is your friend! I just dremel’d off the dome and made it into a pan-head. You can do this, or you can order 4 screws from somewhere in the UK and wait a month. Start to build with Centurion as the end goal! If you have Lvl 3 on your mind right from the start, you’ll easily get there. I notice that people who don’t start their builds this way, have a harder journey and seem to be a lot less likely to get there. Furthermore, their armour at the basic approval level can tend to be a little bit of a mess, because they've been lone ranger-ing it, and haven't been using Centurion submission photos as their go to. I'm guessing that those who start this way, most often have far better looking armour right from the start...even if they never progress to EIB or Centurion. Hope that something in here helps someone on their journey!

Regarding the glue: that slot in my resin selector lever was a bit smaller than the white part of that rotary switch. I really had to press the lever onto the switch. Otherwise I would have used glue - why not?! Most likely, there won't be a situation, where you need to remove the lever again (after spray painting).

I could even see them using something like this although its not very secure. It would explain why there seems to so much of the baton exposed in the above screen captures.

Well, I think the silver part is the exposed tip of the baton. Even if the baton is black, the paint will wear with use and the tip and opening ring on the business end of the baton will become bare metal. In this picture the ring and tip are seen on the left side. This ASP has a nickel/ stainless finish called electroless but even if it was black, you would eventually see the tip and ring. The other end is the butt of the baton and normally has a black bap but there are a ton of different end caps available. Some with flash lights or spikes for breaking automobile windows etc… The grip in the center is normally foam. I logged onto Netflix and snagged a few screen captures. The quality is not that great and I have not noticed the batons on any other TK except in the detention scenes. The yellow circle is the baton exposed tip of the baton and it is bare metal or stainless. I am still not able to make out any real detail of the holster except that the tip of the baton protrudes from the bottom of the holster and it looks like the holster and baton are swinging freely as the TK spins due to the door of the transport being blown open. This may be because of how the holster is attach to the belt. I am thinking that the holster is something more like this with an open bottom. I am still not convinced that the holster is leather but there is no reason this holster could not be made of leather rather than nylon. I do not think we will ever truly know.

Darthcue, is it supposed to be segmented like the one in your picture? In actual law enforcement we use the ASP break-free holster. ASP makes a leather holster that is not break-free and all that would need to be done is removing or cutting off the mounting strap and attaching a longer mounting strap made of leather to match. And there are a ton of cheap options for a simple leather holster like this one from DeSantis available on Amazon, ebay and law enforcement supply stores. However, without seeing how the one from RO looks, I can only assume that they used a simple design. Most of the off-brand batons come with a nylon holster similar to these in shape and appearance. There is also a large selection of kydex holsters out there. I am curious why the CRLs state leather without any real source images? As we have seen with other magazine pouches, nylon seems to be used just as frequently as leather for a lot of this stuff.

Update, I have made progress with the belt. I marked where each box will be attached then drilled two holes for rivets in the belt and the back of the boxes. I had planned on using PC-7 to attach the boxes to the belt but realized that the boxes will not sit flush to the belt across the entire back of the boxes due to the belt bending around my torso. So I decided to attach the boxes along their center vertical axis with screws, bolts, or rivets. For screws, they would need to have aggressive threads to not strip out the holes and become ineffective due to weight being placed on the boxes or snagging of the boxes. Bolts would require me to cut access holes in the boxes to adhere the nuts inside the boxes. So rivets seemed the easiest method. I will not permanently attach the boxes until everything is painted. If the rivets fail then I will alter my plans and go with the bolts. In this picture you can see one box mounted but I have not cut the rivets to demonstrate how they will be mounted. Also note that I needed to cut holes in the two front boxes to allow the recess of the snaps that attach the belt to the abdomen. For the back belt and the Thermal Detonator (TD) (that’s is what I have heard it referred to but I honestly have no idea what it really is called) I decided to go with bolts so I could remove it if need when wearing a back pack. After I marked where the TD would mount on the belt, I cut a large hole in the center of the mounting face of the TD then I drilled the four mounting holes in the belt and then through the TD. I am using T-nuts with the spikes cut off as the nuts. I mixed up some PC-7 and mounted them on the inside of the TD. I used small binder clips to hold the T-nuts in place while the PC-7 cured. Once cured, I removed the binder clips and noticed how far the T-nuts protrude from the mounting face of the TD. Next, I cut off the T-nuts with a cut off disk on a dremel and sanded them flush. It was kind of a rush job so I did not do a clean of a job as I would like but it works. I cleaned out the threads of the T-nuts and tested bolts in each. Then, I test fit the TD to the belt. So, I still need to sand and fill the Td and back belt and that should be ready for paint. I still need to sort out the shoulder straps, chest and back plates. Do a lot of sanding and then its on to paint. Thanks for the interest.

Do you or anyone else have a good picture of the holster used in the movie? If so please post it or point me to a link and I will see if I can identify who its made by and where to get it if its off the shelf. If its not, I am sure I can make you one as long as I have an idea of how it looks.

Darthcue, I have not seen a good picture of the holster so I am unsure what exactly the holster looks like; however, a simple google search for ASP baton holster should provide quite a large selection to choose from. Unless they made the holsters for Rogue One exclusively for the movie, I would think that the holster was an off the shelf purchase just like the ASP baton. and the M300 flashlights on all the guns.

Seems they work over http but not https, and the links to them are all the later. Looks like its a certificate issue at the server (tapatalks, not ours). edit: a quick google of some of the cert details seems to show that it's indeed a certificate issue with tapatalk meaning they cannot serve the images securely at the moment.

If it was me I'd drill out the hole in the selector and then either drill for a small grub screw or use a "squish" method to get a very snug fit on the post with out using glue.

First steps are correct you submit through your local GML once your costume is complete, you also have to fill out a 501st member application form and select 5 groups of numbers from the remaining numbers list, info here Then which ever costume you are approved with will have it's own TKID (identification letters) ie TK = Stormtrooper, TD = Sandtrooper. If you become approved in another version of Stormtrooper you still only have TK in front of your numbers. You can find a list of 501st costumes and their prefixes here You keep your ID numbers ie: mine are 85421 and the same which ever costume I have been approved with, it's only the letters that change. When you want to be approved in another costume you still go through your GML and you don't have to fill out the 501st application form again. MEPD is the place you want to be to Sandtroopers, some great info there. Good luck and hope to see you in the legion soon.

So, the search continued... I originally set out to just get something fun to have for Halloween and the like, but after all my research, it seems much more worthwhile to get some proper armor. Joining the 501st is also something I've always wanted to do (I'd just figured I'd do it later), and reading this forum has gotten me even more interested. I'm gravitating towards an RS Propmasters pre-built (ANH, ABS), but admittedly I'm having a bit of a hard time justifying the cost. What other options would people recommend? I'm about 5'10, probably 160-165lb, so I'm generally pretty easy to fit. I'm pretty hesitant to have to assemble a first suit; I'm not overly crafty and wouldn't want to spend the money only to mess up the trimming/assembly. If it helps, I'm in the Bay Area, so the Golden Gate Garrison would be my local. I follow their Facebook page, but all the Events are just their public events; I'm not sure how to go about finding armor parties and the like. Can anyone provide advice on how to find local armor parties? Also, any suggestions for/against going the RS route would be appreciated. Finally, is it realistic for me to, if I act now, get a suit by Halloween this year? Thanks in advance everyone; such a great community. Your local Garrison should have their own forum and that’s where you’ll find the info on armor parties and local events. There should be a new / prospective member section where you can comment. As for armor all of our approved vendors are great some like RT mod are meant for bigger folks (not you) so RS, ATA, WTF, etc are all fantastic and will fit once trimmed properly. I troop Walt’s TK kit and it has held up well these past two years. He has a FB page and a lot of support there. He’s usually pretty quick to get your kit to you as well. That being said my Garrison has just about every other maker represented as well and they all look great! That’s just my personal experience. Hey Zac, and thank you for your ANH-Stunt EI application. CRL and EIB Application Requirements: All required submission photos have been posted, and I am very pleased to announce your armor displays all the necessary elements to qualify for Expert Infantry. On behalf of Tony and myself, congratulations! Other-Armor Fit/Assembly: In this section we review observations made by your fellow troopers and ourselves. Some observations may lead to suggestions to improve the overall look of your armor. Just a few small notes on this outstanding build, brother. I noticed that your right shoulder bridge could use a bit of trimming to match the left one. This quick and easy fix will add to the look of of your armor Perfect job on the shoulder bell to shoulder bridge placement, but they could be closer to your back plate. Trimming all the return edge from the bottom of your shoulder bells will help, or maybe giving them a hot water bath to help reshape them a bit. Reference image Reference image As mentioned earlier in your thread, I would definitely hit your scope with some black spray paint. You can have some brass showing, of course, but toning it down will add to a better look, Reference image In several shots it shows your posterior plate actually riding over your kidney plate. It should actually be underneath and as level as possible. Great job on that double-snap set-up, (I swear by it), but I would suggest taking 10 minutes to make 2 new (tighter) nylon straps for the kidney/posterior connection. Reference image Centurion Suggestions: In this section we review observations made by your fellow troopers and ourselves. Some observations may lead to suggestions to improve the overall look of your armor. A really quick fix is needed for your drop box, (just tighten it up a tad). The CRL states that there should be a "minimal gap between belt and box". Reference image

Belt Assembly: I had planned on making the belt myself but thought better of it and ordered @JAFO's belt kit and I am glad I did. Very high quality. I started by getting a fitment of how much length I would need and marking that distance with painter's tape. Once I was content with the length I marked and punched holes on the tape pictured above and installed the supplied chicago screws. Do that at both ends. PROTIP: have a plastic bat nearby to ward off meddlesome children during assembly. At this point you trim the other two layers to match your base nylon layer and punch holes through them as well to feed your screws through until all 3 layers are intact. Once all three layers are assembled, it is time to line up the boxes. The horizontal boxes should straddle the center line of your ab piece (or somewhere in that vicinity). Affix the boxes to the belt in a temporary fashion to get them lined up. Once those are lined up, drill holes into the rear boxes and mark pilot holes into the top ribbed layer of the belt. I used a knife to rough up the belt a little to know where to punch. I also put the pouches on at this point just to get a feel for how they would line up with everything else. The best way I found to keep them in place is with safety pins. JAFO's kit also comes with these nylon mounting plates and elastic to mount the vertical boxes. Punch some holes in them as well as the belt and have a grand old time feeding elastic through the belt layers. Once that is complete glue the mounting plate to the box and let dry. I used a good amount of CA glue for this part. Once you are content with their placement, tie off and trim the excess elastic. Next step is to glue on the tops halves of the horizontal boxes. Paint the rear boxes black if you have white plastic, let dry, and afix the top half. Next place some velcro on to the back of the piece that covers one of the pouches. The set I purchased from Trooperbay already had fuzzy velcro on the patch so you shouldn't be able to confuse them. That should be it. Enjoy your handiwork and marvel at the beautiful (and functional) belt! It goes without saying that final belt assembly should happen only after your pieces have been painted (if you are painting that is, which with KB, you probably are.)

What an amazing community. It's an honour to be among the Centurion ranks! Those photos were from my EIB before I tweaked the positioning. I should have replaced those. It is glued now, and the current photos are the standard photos, which show that they're perfect to a ridiculously anal retentive level. Thanks again! Woohoo! I appreciate you making the repairs suggested at EI...nice work! Your armor now contains all necessary elements to qualify you for Centurion. Tony and I would like to congratulate and welcome you to the ranks, brother.  Other-Armor Fit/Assembly: The only suggestion I can suggest would be to glue the drop box straps in place. I the standing shots I can see that you have them aligned with the ends of the belt, but in the rear photo they still seem to sit a little too far in, and you will need to keep them in place. Congratulations Centurion, now get out there and make the Outer Rim Garrison proud!

I tried one of those Google Chrome extensions to view Photobucket photos and so far it works for me. I can see all of my photos that were un viewable after the Photobucket disaster. If you have not yet, its worth trying it. I might start posting up pics again if this is a permanent fix for all members to use. Quick update after my 60 minute sprint after dinner. Four wires successfully soldered to the rotary switch. Although originally left feeling short handed in using lead free solder; lead based solder did the trick and gave me a boost of confidence. It's lower melting point allowed me to solder with ease even at a 30 watt setting on my soldering iron. Tinning the soldering iron tip also helped allot. I was pretty frustrated with lead free because it took forever to melt the solder and with these small wires / components, experienced a huge headache. The light duty lead bases rosen core solder (60/40) at 0.8mm gauge was awesome. With wires only 1/32" thick, it was definitely the right solder choice for the job. Minor adjustments remaining include rotating the switch more and positioning the switch lever further up by 2mm to match SMG references. I also need to label the wires so they can be made sense of when accessing them from the receiver, post installation. Finally, green stuff will need to be added along with a plastic sheet to close off the cavity. Yeah yeah lever needs to be installed too; can't forget about that More to come; thanks for reading!

I'd specify no paint for the upper right ab snap too, just to be thorough.

Over the last few years (and especially the last few weeks) I have noticed that for some reason a lot of EI applicants are painting the rivet on the cod and/or the snaps on the bottom of the posterior plate white. Since this is not permitted for higher levels what does everyone think of the following suggestions, (in green). Not trying to make my job easier, lol, just hoping to save some Troopers the trouble of having to go back and remove it. Posterior armor OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable): Two male snaps are present on the lower center tab of the Posterior Armor. Snaps do not need to be functional. Snaps shall not be painted Abdomen Armor Side Rivets are painted white. A single male snap on the top right corner of the ab plate is present. We have Ralph and Vanellope being chased by First Order stormtroopers from Star Wars, and we also have an appearance from Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh. It’s also a bit of a short appearance, but Iron Man also whizzes by Ralph and Vanellope in one of the scenes. No doubt the rest of the Marvel characters could make a more relevant cameo in the film. Our condolences go out to his family and friends. "Buckets Off" Rumors, half-truths, and social media. There is a marketing term called FUD which stands for Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt. The intent is that if you can present partial information that creates FUD relating to your competitors products, you can then steer people to your own. In the US lately there has been the term “alternate facts” added to our lexicon recently as well. In either case, it makes it hard to find factual information. I bring this up as it’s become a more frequent concern amongst unit commanders – garrison and detachment alike – about how to deal with rumors and innuendo that start and spread via social media. In journalism, the old stand-by is to always check with the source. Walter Cronkite, a journalist trusted and famous for his integrity, was once fired from a job when he was younger because he refused to air a report without checking the facts himself. Even when JFK was assassinated, Walter did not go live with the news until he was able to verify the details with sources personally. I say this as there have been a lot of false stories circulated on social media about FISD, such as the silver coins not being real silver (they were lab tested, they are), or that there was some type of special run done only for the officers (there was not), or that there is a “secret FB group” (there is not). The lesson here is not to believe everything you read on social media. Check with the source. Can they back up their claims? Do they have any proof? Or are they just stirring the pot to further their own agenda? From the start FISD was created to provide transparent information to the membership. Initially it was to shine truth on the various makes of armor and how best to build it. L2/L3 approval threads have always been 100% open to the public (vs. being deleted as another detachment did) as we want that process to be transparent. When it doubt, always check in at FISD if you have any questions on rumors, etc. Since 2006 we’ve set the record straight, and will honor that tradition. New Executive Officer Eric @Tolo has been with FISD a long time, including stints as DCOG and most recently as DXO. As things happen, Eric's personal life has changed for a positive for him, but for us it meant that he couldn't do what he needed and stay on as DXO. I would like to take this time to elaborate on an issue as it relates to my position and my responsibility this past two months. There was a growing concern that some members felt their voices weren’t being heard as the “staff” was just locking all of the threads down. I would like to tell everyone that that was not the case. The threads that were locked were done so either at the request of Legion Command or because I was trying to prevent a catastrophic situation that would not have benefited anyone. There were times when communication was breaking down between members which in turn was causing agitation and resentment which is not something any of us want to see. But did you know that there is also a costume club available for those fans who are not old enough to tie their own shoes yet? It is absolutely true. If you have not heard of the Galactic Academy, here's a little bit of information about one of them who I happen to know very well - 6 year old Cadet - First Order (CFO) 2594, Kellan Waychoff. Kellan has been rocking his First Order armor for a couple of years now (and sadly those days may be numbered as he continues to grow) and he has become quite comfortable in his costume as a result. He has appeared at a handful of conventions and unofficial troops, as well as one official (non-con) event with me in that time. Early in April Dallas hosted FanExpo Dallas, and on Saturday he once again put on the armor for some good causes, serving as a Blast-A-Trooper target for about three hours to raise money for the Michael J. These programs were designed for those who choose to take their armor above and beyond the minimum requirements for basic 501st Legion approval. It gives you the chance to show a level of dedication and pride that takes your armor closer to being as "screen accurate" as possible, without as much extra work as you may realize! It also works on giving a better look to the Legion as an entity, and you can bet others will take notice of your hard work. The 501st has a list of detailed requirements for Basic approval, (level 1), EIB, (level 2) and Centurion, (level 3) which can be found here in the Costume Reference Library, (CRL) http://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:FISD_CRL Here are a few of the questions people may be wondering about: 1. "I am a (tall/short/heavy/thin) Trooper. Can I still apply? Of course! These programs are open and encouraged for all sizes of TKs, as long as the costume is correct and meets the guidelines. There are many specific build tutorials to every option, as well as a vast network of fellow TKs on the FISD to help you out and offer suggestions. 2. "How much extra will I have to pay for extra items"? The cost is actually quite reasonable, considering the few extra supplies you will need, which are listed in the requirements area. While it may run you a little more to implement these additions to your costume, they will go a long way to improving accuracy. All needed items can be found for sale on this thread: https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/16-ongoing-sales-project-orders/ While blasters are not required for basic approval, for EIB and Centurion levels they are, and may need upgrades (also listed in the CRL). 3. "I haven't even got my kit yet, is it too early to start planning"? Actually, aiming for Centurion is easiest to do right out of the box. 4. "I have my basic TK approval, can I still get in these programs"? In a word... absolutely! 5. "Are there any "perks" to this extra work and cost"? Besides knowing that you have a great looking set of armor, the 501st and FISD believes you should be deservedly recognized for your achievement(s), and allows you to wear the appropriate embroidered "rocker" badge of rank (available for a very minimum cost) on your shirt, helmet bag, etc., as well as rank decals to put on your armor bin. You will also have access to select "challenge coin" runs, receive (free) a cool certificate for your new rank, and have your title posted below your name in your FISD signature. Plus, once you reach these levels, you will have the extra knowledge to help out those who are looking to apply as well. 6. "Is it hard to apply, and what happens then"? After basic approval, all you do is make sure your armor is up to the standards set forth in the CRL, post a thread with the required photos in the appropriate area (see below), and wait a bit for the D.O.s (Deployment Officers) to address it. (Hint: Studying other people's threads before you submit can be a GREAT help). These are also listed on the main page of the FISD site. While waiting for approval, you will get some comments from others who will offer suggestions and constructive advice to help you out. If you should need any changes, the DOs will let you know, so you can adjust accordingly. Don't be dismayed if you do need changes... it's all for your benefit!
