  1. That is brilliant. Thank you so much. I never even thought about doing third strap on the back. I have already shortened the two I will now add a third and hopefully reduce back gap more. Ab buttons will be nice quick job thanks to the delightful removable e6000. Thanks again will be submitting Centurian soon. [emoji3] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

  2. Hi Dan, welcome and thank you for your EIB application. Let's have a look. CRL and EIB Application Requirements: All the required submission photos have been posted and your armor displays all necessary element as set out in the level 2 CRL. Tony and I would like to welcome you to Expert Infantry, congratulations. trooper. Other-Armor Fit/Assembly: In this section we review observations made by your fellow troopers and ourselves. Some observations may lead to suggestions to improve the overall look of your armor. If any suggestion affects any application, it will be listed separately in the above or below sections. Beautiful job on your RWA and the hand painting of your helmet details, great work indeed. Thank you for taking on board those couple of suggestions made by your fellow troopers, the new photos look great and the gaps are more balanced. One thing you may still be able to adjust is the gap between the back and kidney plates. We can see you have improved it already, just see if you cant close it up a touch more by shortening the connecting straps or even adding a third strap to the center. reference image Next up the left Ab button has too much surface area. Technically it should be smaller than the surface it's glued to, as in the below reference photo. I would also like to make mention on the great job you have done with the side shims, it is very obvious that you built this kit with Centurion in mind from the outset, and now it is but an application away. Centurion Suggestions: In this section we prepare you the best we can for Centurion. If there are any areas of concern they will be discussed here. Make sure those side gaps are closed on both sides between back and ab plates and at this time we don't see anything that would hold you back from attaining that Centurion badge. Thank you for a super clean build and application Dan Head on out trooper and we shall see you in Level 3 review soon.

  4. WHAT THIS PROGRAM IS: A dedicated forum where members can submit their completed stormtrooper costume for peer review prior to formal submission to their GML. Your armor will be reviewed and suggestions made by the FISD Staff and Imperial Attaché team, but detachment members can also provide peer review on any submission. All feedback provided will be specific, constructive, respectful, and helpful. Any feedback that is deemed negative, derogatory, inflammatory, or otherwise offensive will be deleted, and the poster can be subject to account suspension for repeated offenses. You may also be provided suggestions for attaining the rank of EI (Expert Infantry) and Centurion levels should you wish to pursue higher levels of screen accuracy. WHAT THIS PROGRAM IS NOT: This program is not a replacement for the GML approval process, as Detachments are not charted to approve costumes for membership. While a costume that passes Detachment peer review should be in a state to be accepted by a GML, Detachments cannot override a GMLs decision, nor are GMLs bound to accept the ruling of a detachment costume approval. That said, as a general rule the goal is that any costume that passes peer-review approval should be accepted by a 501st GML. WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUBMIT: You will need to post up various high quality photos of your armor/accessories on the list below, as well as the basic information listed next to it. We realize that this is more information than normally required for basic approval, but we want you to look your best! Also, please include the name(s) of any approved Trooper(s) who have significantly helped you with your build. Yes, we are asking for more photos and information than are normally needed for basic approval. The reason being is that we feel it gives us a better overall view, and we can catch things that may be missed should the recruit want to move to level 2. PHOTOS: INFORMATION: 1. Costume peer review provides members with a supplemental feedback on items that need to be fixed prior to approval, as well as other feedback that will help the overall fit and finish. Catching errors earlier will result in increased confidence a build will pass GML review and thus save GMLs time. It will also provide GMLs insight in to a sounding board beyond the GML peer review area on the 501st boards. Additionally it provides non-GML forum members the opportunity to learn about and gain experience in the costume judging process. This is valuable because it can provide people considering being a GML real-world experience before accepting the role, and provides GCOs a potential pool of people experienced in costume judging who may not have yet served as a GML. ADDITIONAL INFO: 1. Any feedback that is negative, derogatory, inflammatory, or otherwise offensive should be reported immediately, will be deleted, and the poster may be subject to account suspension for repeated offenses. 2. Feedback should follow the same format that Deployment Officers use, e.g. for each item to fix they will be marked as “must fix”, “should fix”, “could fix”. 3. “Approval” only covers base 501st acceptance (aka L1). Expert Infantryman (L2) and Centurion (L3) standards can be cited only for “could fix” items and are never “must fix”. 4. For GMLs, this is intended to catch errors early to make your lives easier. This is not a replacement for what you do. Additionally, since detachments can't approve costumes, there is no concern that a Detachment will override a GML decision. 5. For GCOs, an advantage is that a 501st member in their garrison can gain experience in the costume review part of being a GML before they take on the role officially, and this may also for their Garrison provide an outlet for people considering being a GML, and a pool of experienced members should they need to fill that role. 6. For FB users, other TK Facebook pages can offer advice on their site that may or may not be correct. FISD is the official Detachment run by experienced 501st costume approvers the world over, and this is a service we can provide prospective and current 501st members that a FB group cannot.

  5. Hello! I recently had a fantastic BBB day after a super quick turnaround from ATA Works. Everything was in tip top shape when it arrived and I am pumped to start the build. After reading build threads, watching videos, and some advice from experienced troopers, I'm going to be aiming this build for Centurion from the outset. This is my first time attempting such a project, so I look forward your input. I've also been working on a full resin blaster kit which may occasionally distract me while waiting for e6000 to cure. My plan of attack is to start with the forearms, move to the bucket (mostly because I'm really excited to build that part), then see where to go from there. My first question as I prep the forearms, is it easier/better to trim the return edge from the wrist before or after assembly? Thanks for all the collective wisdom I've benefited from so far, and I look forward to the build!

  10. So I've made come adjustments and trooped this past weekend with great results. I reinforced my elastic shoulder straps with webbing ... this removed any stretch happening at my shoulders I added padding on the inside of my back plate near the bottom ... to remove a pressure point while wearing the pack I created some straps that go from my thigh garter belt up to my shoulder straps. This gives me the ability to take the weight of the pack and move it from my shoulder straps to my thigh garter. This keeps the pack more upright, it prevents my back plate from drooping down and over my kidney plate, and keeps my back plate where it should be. The straps have a suspender top and a loop around my garter belt at the bottom. In the strap itself, I added to clips for easy on-off. It's hard to get pictures of the set-up, but here's a diagram. The straps go down the front of my torso, not the back.

  11. Hope that helps! Note that this is "standard sizing" so if you need to resize anything bigger, you will probably want to make your cover strips wider as well.

  13. Thanks so much!!! And great note too, as I am in the process of adding snaps to my chest connections (those and the shoulders/bicep connections are the last of the "velcro conversion" effort, LOL). I also noticed that my back-to-kidney gap seemed to 'grow' between EIB and the Centurion applications.... I'm thinking that with 15to20 troops per year that maybe it'd be a good idea to make some spares, as the elastic seems to have a one year shelf life before "relaxing" too much and causing gaps. Thanks again!!!

  16. To sand the ABS paste, start with a low grit and work your way up, even wet sanding when you get to fine grit. Then give it some Novus to get the shine back in! Can you clarify what the issue is with the knee ammo belt? It's positioned up over the ridge in the front, as it should. Yeah, looks a bit short on the sides, but it's not a deal breaker. You're just looking for a solution to get a new knee ammo belt that is longer at the sides?

  17. No worries. Just be careful of damaging the armour. I found that it was really quick and easy to measure the coverstrip, snip the corners (and sand if required), then glue. With a good pair of Lexans, snipping the corners should take seconds and could save you a lot of time down the line. :-)

  18. Hi Jeff, A little gap at the back isn’t too bad. As you’ve said, placing some white abs behind the gap should help out. (I did the same). If you want to add that extra degree of screen accuracy, you could add the little 45 degree angles to your coverstrips, as pictured below from the RS screen used suit. This will be difficult to do once the prices are glued so would ideally be done before gluing. Best wishes, Dan [emoji1]

  21. Congrats on your BBB day, Tony, and GREAT to hear you are headed for Centurion! Yes, as mentioned you should definitely remove all the return edge on the wrist side of the forearms (including the "hump" as seen in photo 1) before fitting/gluing. How much you trim off the other end is up to you. Some like to leave a bit, but below (photo 2) is a detail of screen used forearm/bicep. You are doing the right thing by asking questions here in your thread before proceeding. Keep it up, and remember... this will be a marathon, not a sprint.

  22. Looking sharp, Luc! It may be a bit of a pain, but if you find that the shoulder bells are pulling on the elastic shoulder straps you can replace it with 2 inch wide white nylon. I use 2 (strong) snaps to hold my shoulder bells on, and constantly attaching/unfastening them kept tearing the elastic. I think it's safe to say that we will be seeing an EI badge under your name soon, brother!

Electronics for F-11D...cables, LEDs, resistors. Just need solder tools and a usb battery pack that will fit in the blaster then to drilling the space out and putting that together. Dan’s holster came in and it’s awesome! Going to get it painted and ready for mounting to the armor. Then from here it’s just waiting.

  25. This past weekend I decided to boil my biceps to achieve a rounder base. It turned out really well. I built a jig after measuring the required bicep/forearm gaps. This made installing the two inch straps much easier. I just glued the straps with CA glue. The shoulder bells received their snaps and now the arms are finished. Next, I installed snaps for thigh garter system. Finally, I spent the remainder of the day trying things on and doing my final fitting. I used some helmet padding to line up my shins perfectly. Ukswrath’s helmet electronics installed. Rivets painted. Frown mesh installed. I THINK I am finished with everything! I will spend a little time cleaning and polishing and I should be ready to take submission photos. Finally!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  26. Hengstler Counter time. I wanted a dial on my counter so trashed a $2 skipping rope for the dial and found another to get the six rows of digits.Got handy with the resin and reverse molded a box to match the original, linked my number dials with a small pin, sanded some perspex for the cover and cut a top that will house everthing. Completed. The button does not work but the numbers will spin randomly.

Advanced Tactics Awards EIB - The March To 1000 Merchandise Public Relations Follow FISD System Upgrades Forums were upgraded - thanks to our star system admins - without a hitch. However, we are seeing peaks at certain times of the day where the server is over-loaded for our user volumes. The Legion web team will start working on moving FISD to their servers next quarter. This should allow FISD to seamlessly scale up/down based on demand, or so we're told. Also, kudos to Harbinger/Brien for updating all of our icons for groups, awards, etc. so that they are consistent, can scale for use in merchadise, etc. The new images look much nicer for sure, don't you think? First Order News FISD was created to serve the needs for *all* Legion stormtroopers. We (the staff) got feedback that the FOTK troopers were not seeing as much attention as would be expected given their impact on the fan base from the last two movies. In the second half of last year we ensured that all FOTK CRLs were completed and L2/L3 requirements were added and best of build threads were highlighted numerous times. For 2018 we are building on that foundation to show the love for the FOTKs out there. Lots of new merch for instance has been added: 10th Anniversary Path, inclusion in the EI award logo, a brand new FISD FOTK coin and joint OT/FO bin decals. Whew! But, it's worth it as FOTKs are now the second most common TK costume designation, even more than the ESB, ANH-Hero, or HWT. Pretty surprising eh? My take is that the biggest barrier to FOTKs being even more ubiquitous is how hard it is to get suits in volume. Over time the suits should get easier to build as well, which should help new members create these iconic suits. For Phasma, we did update the TFA CRL and have just released a new Captain Phasma coin, however the TLJ CRL is still taking time as getting photos of the parts is a bit behind. For Those Of You That Had Issues At Elections Time OK, it happens each year just before Legion Elections that you can't vote for DL of FISD (or other detachments), you look at your Legion profile and it shows that your detachment affiliation to FISD is pending, or otherwise incorrect. Why does this happen, and what is detachment affiliation anyway, and what will FISD do about it? The answer is that detachment affiliation is only ever used once a year, and for one purpose. The only time the Legion ever uses it for anything is to determine who can run for DL and who can vote in detachment elections. That's it. Otherwise it is pretty much ignored and not used for anything. The process of validating detachment membership is cumbersome and time consuming because people use different email information between their Legion and detachment logins, and that there is no way to bulk update the rosters. For a small detachment it is not a big deal to do this manually, but for a detachment the size of FISD with hundreds and soon thousands of 501st members, it's impossible. Legion web team run a bulk update just before elections each year, there are times that some may have been missed then they would need to be added manually. 1) Ensure the email address you use on the Legion & FISD boards are the exact same. 2) Ensure that your FISD profile has the correct TKID. 3) If after the bulk update is complete and your profile is still not updated, and you are 100% sure your info is in sync between the two boards, then ask for to the Legion web team. They should get feedback on why this isn't working. 4) If all else fails, ping the FISD staff. Which basically means that we'll simply tell the 501st web team to bulk approve everyone To check if you are affiliated to a specific detachment go to the 501st forum, look on the left side menu, click on the Member DB link, then Your Profile Data, go to the bottom of the page to Your Unit Affiliation and make sure First Imperial Stormtrooper Detachment (Approved) is there, if it is there and marked as (Pending) you can contact the detachment leader of FISD and ask for it to be approved. If you find it is not there at all or any other detachment you should be affiliated too, then contact your GML (garrison membership liaison) and ask to be affiliated them. NOTE to stay affiliated with a detachment and to qualify to participate in detachment elections you need to have logged into our forums at least once during the previous year. UPDATE As we move FISD to the Legion's servers, this process should be automated and the issues fixed, time will undoubtable tell. The FISD is pleased to announce the addition of a new area in the Advanced Tactics forum dedicated to those ready to submit for basic 501st TK approval. This section will allow future Troopers the opportunity to submit photos of their completed build to be reviewed by the Staff, Imperial Attaches and others in preparation for forwarding it to their GML for approval. Any and all advice/suggestions given will be specific, constructive, helpful and respectful. Please note that this program will NOT take the place of your local GML, as Detachments are not chartered for costume approval and can not override a GMLs decision, but is instead a peer review program designed to help you look your best and offer guidance and positive feedback. You will have the opportunity to ask questions about your completed armor, weapons (if applicable), accessories, etc. and get accurate information from the experts here at the FISD.. the definitive home of TKs worldwide. These programs were designed for those who choose to take their armor above and beyond the minimum requirements for basic 501st Legion approval. It gives you the chance to show a level of dedication and pride that takes your armor closer to being as "screen accurate" as possible, without as much extra work as you may realize! It also works on giving a better look to the Legion as an entity, and you can bet others will take notice of your hard work. The 501st has a list of detailed requirements for Basic approval, (level 1), EIB, (level 2) and Centurion, (level 3) which can be found here in the Costume Reference Library, (CRL) http://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:FISD_CRL Here are a few of the questions people may be wondering about: 1. "I am a (tall/short/heavy/thin) Trooper. Can I still apply? Of course! These programs are open and encouraged for all sizes of TKs, as long as the costume is correct and meets the guidelines. There are many specific build tutorials to every option, as well as a vast network of fellow TKs on the FISD to help you out and offer suggestions. 2. "How much extra will I have to pay for extra items"? The cost is actually quite reasonable, considering the few extra supplies you will need, which are listed in the requirements area. While it may run you a little more to implement these additions to your costume, they will go a long way to improving accuracy. All needed items can be found for sale on this thread: https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/16-ongoing-sales-project-orders/ While blasters are not required for basic approval, for EIB and Centurion levels they are, and may need upgrades (also listed in the CRL). 3. "I haven't even got my kit yet, is it too early to start planning"? Actually, aiming for Centurion is easiest to do right out of the box. 4. "I have my basic TK approval, can I still get in these programs"? In a word... absolutely! 5. "Are there any "perks" to this extra work and cost"? Besides knowing that you have a great looking set of armor, the 501st and FISD believes you should be deservedly recognized for your achievement(s), and allows you to wear the appropriate embroidered "rocker" badge of rank (available for a very minimum cost) on your shirt, helmet bag, etc., as well as rank decals to put on your armor bin. You will also have access to select "challenge coin" runs, receive (free) a cool certificate for your new rank, and have your title posted below your name in your FISD signature. Plus, once you reach these levels, you will have the extra knowledge to help out those who are looking to apply as well. 6. "Is it hard to apply, and what happens then"? After basic approval, all you do is make sure your armor is up to the standards set forth in the CRL, post a thread with the required photos in the appropriate area (see below), and wait a bit for the D.O.s (Deployment Officers) to address it. (Hint: Studying other people's threads before you submit can be a GREAT help). These are also listed on the main page of the FISD site. While waiting for approval, you will get some comments from others who will offer suggestions and constructive advice to help you out. If you should need any changes, the DOs will let you know, so you can adjust accordingly. Don't be dismayed if you do need changes... it's all for your benefit! After you are approved for EIB, then you can submit for Centurion. EIB https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/19-request-expert-infantryman-status/ Centurion https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/72-request-centurion-status/ Note: You will see some suggestions in the existing submissions/approval requests that, while not actually part of the CRL, are highly suggested items, (for your benefit), such as "flat-head screw heads on the TD (thermal detonator) should be painted black" for Centurion, etc. Those small details all add up to closer screen accuracy. Just remember that the FISD is here to help you every step of the way with whatever other questions you may have, but if you can't seem to find what you are looking for in your research, just post the question, (or PM justjoseph63) and best of luck on your build! This area lists all those who have gone above and beyond basic approval toward screen accuracy. Request your free Centurion certificate here If you see any of these Troopers around your Garrison or Squad, be sure to congratulate them! As many of you are aware, the FISD is currently in our March to 1000 program. Our goal is to reach the one thousand mark of Troopers who have earned their Expert Infantry Badge, and although we are well on our way to this goal and have just passed the 800 mark! The amount of approved submissions is increasing (over 80 this year alone) thanks to the dedication of those willing to go the "extra mile" toward screen accuracy. Here is a brief description of EIB as written by Paul (Daetrin), our founder: "Expert Infantryman status is not required for members of this detachment. It should be viewed as an optional set of requirements for those who wish to take the accuracy of their costumes to the next level, and be recognized accordingly. We're a costuming club - think of it as an award for costuming excellence and you get the picture. The requirements will not replace or supersede 501st standards, but only serve as an inspiration for the level of accuracy that can be achieved. The standards are meant to be high but achievable..." Besides the added pride you will have in your armor, those reaching this level can purchase exclusive EIB gear (patches, decals, coins etc.) and get a free certificate for your accomplishment. If you are interested or would like more information about the program head here that will help. You can also contact myself (justjoseph63) or any Imperial Attaché, and we will be more than happy to assist you! http://forum.e-liquid-recipes.com/uploads/default/original/3X/7/a/7a6cf581e7e425e2d8e288d8fcf58e5e0f5e4e83.gif Racing Shirts OPEN That's right get in quick run closing 23rd March, thread can be found here NOW TAKING ORDERS - Silver Bullion Challenge Coin, thread here Phasma Challenge Coin This is limited and exclusive to the FISD. 32. The overlap construction was not used in ANH, and for screen accuracy purposes I feel that they should not be permitted at level 2. Those who currently have FX could upgrade if they wish to achieve EI or Centurion, but after all it is an elective and not a requirement . I had to replace my old AM chest, back and kidney for ANH-S level 3 and when the CRLs for HWT changed I replaced the ammo packs to reflect the new requirements. I was already approved at Centurion level HWT, so was "grandfathered in" with the older style, but things change and we must adapt. Don't get me wrong, I am all in favor of the higher levels and not down on anyone's armor (well, except Rubie's or recasts), but there comes a time when we have to move forward. Back in the day, FX was the armor of choice due to availability, but now there are many other quality options that are closer to screen accuracy.

  33. All FX armor should be piled up and burned! I know it's off topic but IMHO there should be a time limit for that armor. The helmet had a shelf life expire. So should the body. Time to put it with Rubie out to pasture. Carry on with your coverstrips!
