Was there a other mould?
john danter replied to Turrican's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Ah I see your point You're asking, why does it appear on some heros but not other heros? No idea lol Different pulls maybe? Less heat applied to one lid vs the other? Less suction time on one lid vs another? One lid was pulled first, the other pulled later in the day when the heater element and the vac form chamber have warmed up a little more? It happens to me when I do a batch of stuff. 1st lot take a while to warm up the plastic. The later pulls tend to reach the desired elasticity much quicker. Could simply be that -
Was there a other mould?
john danter replied to Turrican's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Is your question... Does this oval appear on any hero lid? (If not therefore there must have been a new mould?) I think I have seen them on a hero lid somewhere? It's safe to say there was as heros are smoother and the teeth are different So on thy alone there must have been 2 -
ROTJ tears and traps - decals or painted
john danter replied to john danter's topic in ROTJ Stormtrooper
Ah well, I'ver painted mine.....sssh They didn't fit very well, but I know Joe is making new ones. It's not that they didn't fit well, and this is good, there was no way I could get the whole area of the decal to sit nicely. It would fit one bit but then not the other. It's very hard to get them to sit right I thought they were all decals too, just checking. As for the 1000W lamp damage, that was confined to just one side. They don't fit my other ROTJ very well either. Thanks for the replies -
Does anyone here know 100% if any ROTJ lids had hand painted details etc. I know they used decals on most but............ We all know there were 2 lid types. ANH derived and the new moulded ROTJ ones So..... I have JoeR lid and Mikes ROTJ decals. Sadly the decals I have are based on a TE ROTJ lid. They don't fit. So I just hand painted mine. then I wondered, did the studio bother to make 2 sets of decals for ROTJ or did they simple just hand paint some? Discuss

A lovely guy Mention AA to him and stand back -
Well I think I and some of us may owe GINO a slight apology lol, me included. Rubber tooling is £150 ish PVC tooling is £900!!!!! It's also more expensive than a rubber version The rubber will be very stiff if I go ahead with this. On the back burner for now

Weathering my blaster

Any edges will do. Not on the tube itself but on all the corners The ejector semi circular disc seems to be a hot spot. One or two scratches on the arm would be good too. The butt cap, places like that The shoulder rest (under the muzzle when folded) needs some scratches along it's edge to highlight it's a different part from the folding stock -
I couldn't agree more. Absolute star. Well done matey Go skipper, go

Mr Flakey is 'my' reference to the recent surge of HPDE lids with cracked, flaking paint jobs. I think they look great on a mannequin or on a shelf but not for trooping at 501st events. (the majority anyway) Some people will dig the attention, but others will just think you look like you can't paint. I know that's how they were, but not as we were intended to see them on screen Similar principle with the hook on the stunt lid
-
Billy is right...! I often wonder about this myself. Yes it's continuity but it's clearly a mistake in terms of the lids. We can't have Mr No Stripes but we are starting to see Mr Flakey lid creeping up all the time. I don't like it myself. Shinny white we should be Draw the line and that's where it stays. You're the skipper Paul, so it's your call. I was in 2 minds about stunt and hero but maybe stick to hero, or simply don't allow us to have the 2. A TD and hook. When my new armour arrives I'll be going for the short butted Luke look. SO if anyone knows of any good hooks out there. Please LMK

Does that ATAT lid pictured have chipped paint showing black plastic underneath? GINO, you don't have to tell us the source (just in case we all go around there and take casted copies ourselves and then undercut you lol) just show us the pictures you took of the moulds you made from the original lid. I know what I'd do if I ever got my hands on an original lid and the owner was kind enough to let my cast it. I'd have a picture taken of me making the moulds, each step, and I think I'd even ask a local tattoo artist to draw them on my butt cheeks You can't make claims like that anymore. You have to back it up. -
I think that TK outside the MF with the hook is there for continuity. Why he has a stunt lid on, who knows. Nice try by George though I'd say it should be an acceptable replacement for each type of TK too

TK armor is the best but ...
john danter replied to Quebectrooper's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
I had a part complete suit for my Nazgul Ringwraith costume. Great stuff Interesting that that knight has no armour on his rear legs or not much on his back.....? My fiance Becky is an archaeologist and explained that in those days it was considered 'uncooth' to stab an enemy in the back, (some would however, especially rebels and stuff) and not many Roman soldiers can be found with woulds to their back quarters. If they did, they were cowards -
Check here for glass buttons. I saw someone had sticky plastic domes that looked magical inside a scope. They're slightly domed, clear and have a sticky backing. I can't remember the name sadly. YOu'll find them in craft shops I'm sure

Ah, might explain why the washing up liquid helps a bit then? As that dissolves oil
-
Depends what type of paint it was but warm water and washing up liquid works with my humbrol. paints...? Some of the paint brush bristles are plastic themselves, so acetone may eat away at some of them and cause them to fuse

Can we have-brief-tk lid 4-5-6 TK history? please
john danter replied to tk7713gra30's topic in Off Topic
I think you're right there Dennis Sure others will chip in, if not (Hero lids teeth are different is the only thing missing from your post - not sure if that's due to the ABS in the heros or the actual mould? ABS behaves differently to HDPE (stunt lids) when forming) -
Hoe Joe? I'd love to know cos my SDS hero has yellowed I leant it to my cousin and she left it by a window for months.

Have you put them on the right way? The ears slope backward, toward your neck. Sorry if you have, just trying to figure out what's up My ears are meant to fit TE type lids. Although lots have been used on MR lids quite successfully...? But that looks cool to me. Check the films out. They were all over the shop
