  1. True - I replaced ATA shins with RT for this reason.
  2. Looking really good. Question: are the pads under the bells really necessary?
  3. Excellent job as always - well done
  4. One of my garrison mates did and it came out fantastic. He used a RomFx board and some blue tac to cancel out the feedback. So, it can be done at least, though the wiring was pretty tough.
  5. Sure was. Actually, they still are. *If* you make the necessary mods. This went in to affect a few LMO's ago and was policy. Not sure it was changed since? It was really funny as at the time you need to add the correct number of ear screws, lenses, and tube stripes to the MRCE but the FX could get in unmolested. It was also the case that the time you could get an MRCE for what - $90? A lot of people moved off of MRCE from FX for that reason. They look a bit funny straight-on, but were considered a big step up from FX and also had more room than ATA
  6. Also too, D had the thighs resculpted at some point. I say this as I had one of the older FX suits and the thighs were very different than later models.
  7. Well, the first post is pretty accurate to say the least. This has been common knowledge for anyone that's been in the Legion a long time. Well, I joined in 2005 and was made aware of this about what - 2006? Several people have thought about making an armor genealogy tree but so far I don't think anyone has completed it.
  8. Outstanding work team! I have to say this is one of the best newsletters FISD has ever done, and that's saying something. Kudos!
  9. Agreed. I'd like to leave TE2 up there as...well...I'm hoping a run happens this year.
  10. It's probably time the list was updated. Eric?
  11. I just used a hard sided suit case and didn't have problems. I put my blasters in there too. I figure if I can get it in to China (which I've done), you can take it anywhere in the US. I've also gone to Florida this way, just for comparison. I put my helmet in a helmet bag as carry on. Never received a single comment...
  12. Yeah, but that presumes I have paint to match, a place to do painting to begin with, etc. Else it's just putting on a suit and taking pictures.
  13. Doh! And my TKC has grey drop boxes because that's what the standard was at the time. Dang it - better get my centurion pictures in before the CRL changes. Hurry, hurry, hurry!!!!
  14. Understood. It's your last sentence that is most worrisome to me - why would people do that? Why aren't GML's doing their job? I ask as a GML myself the first thing I do with a new recruit is refer them to a detachment site.
  15. Hi Nicky, Please remember that when we created these CRL's, many troopers did (and still do) sport FX armor and even getting neck seals and blue ab plate buttons was a big deal. While it's true that times have changed, it's also true that not much more than 10% of TK's are EI, unlike MEPD where 33% of sandtroopers are deployed. If we up the base standards to pretty much be what EI is, then what does that make for EI? We still have a loooong way to go to get more of the Legion up to EI standards. What would you recommend we could do to get 800 EI in the Legion?
  16. The two major changes are for ANH the removal of allowing a single back/butt plate which is how the old FX kits came, and secondly changing how the O2 cylinder is able to be attached. In the past people would rivet them on or else just use - ack! - velcro. Positive changes all around. Now, if we can just get rid of that FX helmet. They've not even been made in 3 years and the old folks are grandfathered in anyway - it's waaaaaaaay overdue!
  17. Excellent work - you've contributed much in your years here. And I agree - seems like just yesterday you were a shiny new recruit!
  18. Way to go Julie! Sorry I missed you in Oahu before you moved out, and glad to hear you have found ohana there.
  19. Me too - mine is a John Danter original and I'd love to get an upgraded one.
  20. If you're tired, you'll sit. I remember back at the Rose Parade in 2007 while on the way there nearly everyone stood, on the bus back everyone was seated. Heck, even as we were eating our In N Out burgers, we were sitting down. I've taken taxis in armor too - the biggest part for me is unhooking the thighs and rotating them depending on the angle of the seat.
  21. For a new person hitting Centurion isn't much more than EI. However the reason I created EI was more as a guide and encouragement for existing members to upgrade their suits, and to set a bar that new people would hit out of the gate, thus creating for new people a higher bar than base. 33% of MEPD is deployed. Only what - 15% of FISD is EI? When we have 800 EIB then yeah perhaps it's time to increase the standards, but until then it's pretty silly really. Yes, there are places like the UKG and perhaps Nordic which do better than average, but that's not helping the other 500 TK's worldwide get to EI.
  22. I'm pretty sure this is what I ordered a few years ago and they worked out fine.
  23. But Star Wars is not the real military, and some variation is fine. I mean, we don't specify exactly how tall the shins should be either do we?
  24. Thanks Mathias. I guess I'm thinking of "the ships all yours", which does have the hero lid. Funny that this is the first time it's ever been brought up. Goes to show there's something new every day
