Congratulations trooper and welcome to the TK ranks. You can request higher access here I use a separate harness system, arms are free for most of the kit up, start with legs, shins, spats and boots then work way up, everything attaches to the harness, even at the back, snaps there for the back of the ab and TD. Shoulders, biceps and forearms all get connected last.

I have tried to open a few in the past to change elastic, some have opened ok but some I found the posts will snap when opening, worth a try though.

I find those snap setters don't work very well, the ideal tools which come in some kits of snaps I found is these (only image I could find) not sure if you can make it out but the tip has raised sections around the tip which help split the post (a bit like the Philips head screwdriver), not sure if you can find these tools locally When I used the screwdriver I did have to use a bolt to flatten the split post or they wouldn't fit properly into the other side
