While I was in the UK, one of the highlights of the trip was meeting with *the* Rob of RS Props. We sat down and chatted for almost 90 minutes, from which they posted this 30-ish minute video on YouTube at the link below. I someone seriously joke that there a betting pool with the FISD staff on if I could leave his shop without ordering a set of kit. While I hadn't intended on doing so (as I have a nice TK already), I was so impressed by Rob and his commitment to quality that I'm now trying to get my name added to the queue. If you ever have a chance to go to Manchester or meet with Rob, I encourage you to do so. He and his crew are true craftsmen and also some of the nicest people you'd ever meet. Can't say enough good things about them. Many thanks to everyone at RS for creating a truly memorable experience and sharing your passion and expertise for Star Wars costuming. You guys rock!

Look who’s back. @TKNick8350, @jsilvius is correct. I retired last year due to a myriad of issues and my increasingly busy life, but a sudden resurgence of interest in New Generation Armor has brought me back from the dead. There’s some incredible things going on right now and I’m excited to see what pans out. Been a while boys but I am back on the saddle excited to get this ready for the 10th for R1! Making the arm moulds at the moment and I swear Im getitng better at engineering these clamshell parts, the overlap and fit is perfect! Need to paint the cover strips before moulding but thought Id give a quick teaser of what I got. Abdomen is almost done, just needs some sanding but will pull some tests of those this week if all goes well. Shins have just finished printing too. All thats left to design are: - Thighs - Butt - Cod - TD - Chest + Back redo (will explain in subsequent post) - Front belt (stillunsure of how I will tackle this part)

It is the responsibility of all 501st approved members to fill out the census each year which you can find here (to enter use your legion forum login and password) You must be registered on the main forums to participate in the census:here Here's what the charter says about activity definitions: Operations Protocol/Membership An Active Member is defined as a member in good standing who meets the following requirements: Meets all 501st Membership Requirements (i.e. ownership of an approved costume, is over 18 years of age, etc). Has an approved membership record in the 501st Legion Membership Database Maintains active contact with their CO or GML. Active contact and participation will be confirmed during the annual Legion Census held each year during the month of October. Maintains contact information/membership record in the 501st Legion database either through their CO or GML. Participates in at least one Garrison or Legion activity per year while wearing an approved 501st costume owned by said member as recorded in the Legion Census. One year is defined as the period from Legion Census to Legion Census. Examples of an activity include, but are not limited to conventions, charity events, or any activity designated as an official event by a coordinating administrative unit of the Legion. Members who serve in military branches are exempt from activity level requirements if their service renders them unable to meet these requirements. These Minimum Activity Level Requirements should be administered as justly and with as much common sense as possible. A member may retain active status, even if they do not meet all of the requirements listed above at the discretion of their unit Commanding Officer or Legion Command. Filling out the census only takes a few minutes and you also have the opportunity to update your contact information ie: address, email, phone and so on. Any questions you have in regards to the census please contact either your GCO (garrison commanding officer) or your GML (garrison membership liaison) Census form layout With the last forum update the viewable area of the census may not be full page, as such change your page magnification to 75% and you should be able to see the whole page. Why does this happen, and what is detachment affiliation anyway, and what will FISD do about it? The answer is that detachment affiliation is only ever used once a year, and for one purpose. The only time the Legion ever uses it for anything is to determine who can run for DL and who can vote in detachment elections. That's it. Otherwise it is pretty much ignored and not used for anything. The process of validating detachment membership is cumbersome and time consuming because people use different email information between their Legion and detachment logins, and that there is no way to bulk update the rosters. For a small detachment it is not a big deal to do this manually, but for a detachment the size of FISD with hundreds and soon thousands of 501st members, it's impossible. Fortunately we have technical folk both on FISD and in the Legion web team. Once a year they take a feed from FISD's database and do a bulk update on the Legion database. This occurs right before the election cycle starts and is done once per year. Pro tips: 1) Ensure the email address you use on the Legion & FISD boards are the exact same. 2) Ensure that your FISD profile has the correct TKID. 3) IMPORTANT! You MUST be in the right security group. It should be "501st Stormtrooper" in order for the automated system to pull you over. This thread is where you get your detachment access updated. 4) If after the bulk update is complete and your profile is still not updated, and you are 100% sure your info is in sync between the two boards, then ask for to the Legion web team. They should get feedback on why this isn't working. 5) If all else fails, ping the FISD staff. Which basically means that we'll simply tell the 501st web team to bulk approve everyone 6) If still you have no luck you can contact the legion web team directly via email: [email protected] To check detachment affiliation go to the 501st holocron here, login using your 501st forum username and password, click on YOUR PROFILE DATA, then look down the lower part of the page for YOUR UNIT AFFILIATION, then under DETACHMENT AFFILIATION. If you do not see FISD listed reach out to your GML (garrison membership liaison) as they can add it if you are an approved Stormtrooper. If FISD shows as PENDING it will usually become approved before legion elections begin each year as this is an automated process, if you find it has still not change before legion elections please contact our DL Chris @themaninthesuitcase he may be able to do a manual update. While our Expect Infantry and Centurion programs get most of the attention, FISD staff wants to relaunch the Armorer Program (Currently called the Master Armorer Program). What is the Armorer Program you ask? Well, it is a program designed to recognize those troopers that go above and beyond to assist themselves and others in getting costumes built, submitted, and approved. One of the goals of all the detachments in the 501st Legion is to help members build and submit costumes that meet and hopefully exceed the minimum requirements of the Legion’s CRLs. Currently the Master Armorer program has the requirement of helping a minimum of 5 members achieve Expert Infantry status. The member must have spent at least 30min physically helping another member with cutting, gluing, sizing, etc, just because they want to help (no money exchanged). There are 3 levels of the award, FISD Armorer, FISD Senior Armorer and FISD Master Armorer. The new program will add a 4th level at the beginning called the Apprentice Armorer. The point scale will be as follows. 5 points - Apprentice Armorer 10 points - Armorer 20 points - Senior Armorer 30 points - Master Armorer If you love building armorer and love helping fellow members get their costumes built, then this is the program you’ve been searching for. We look forward to awarding more members with this award as we know how much we all love Troopers helping Troopers. More information can be found here Armorer Rocker Patches Rocker patches are now available for the Armorer Program, there is currently just the one patch, and members are eligible to receive two of them once they reach Level 2, "Armorer". More information can be found here Want to setup a "Fire Team? the Fire Team program is completely optional, and is intended to help form a common identity and spirit of camaraderie among 501st Legion Stormtroopers in the same geographic area/garrison that troop together. Fire Teams are not officially recognized by the 501st Legion nor the FISD, although they will be able to access a Fire Team sub-forum on the detachment website. You can find more information here. These programs were designed for those who choose to take their armor above and beyond the minimum requirements for basic 501st Legion approval. It gives you the chance to show a level of dedication and pride that takes your armor closer to being as "screen accurate" as possible, without as much extra work as you may realize! For those unaware it is possible to achieve extra awards at Expert Infantry for each additional version costume you have approved, additional awards are not issued with another Expert Infantry number (you are only issued 1 Expert Infantry number) but you will see a star above the award on your profile and the thread title will show [APPROVED] 2nd, [APPROVED] 3rd, [APPROVED] 4th and so on. Multiple EIB award recipients and info here NOTE If you are approved with a "2nd Version" of a particular costume that you are already approved with you do not receive an additional award, there is only 1 award issued for each costume version ie: only 1 x Hero, 1 x Stunt, 1 x HWT, 1 x ESB, 1 x TFA and so on. Greetings troopers, It's that time of year where we need to pay our bills. Last year we covered 14 months to get us a little way into the term so there was no sudden rush just after the elections. Well that 14 months is almost up so we now need your help to cover the detachments costs. The breakdown of costs are as follows: Hosting in backups - $34.56 monthly after taxes Email - Send Grid - $19.95 monthly after taxes Invision v5 Licence - $199 Members owed from previous term - $75 This brings our fundraising goal to $928.12 for 12 months. I don't like to talk too much about it, as we did all sign NDAs and some of us continue to do contract work for D/LFL so we try to be discreet. Most of this has already been stated publicly, but this was a situation where a post went up on like Friday night and we filmed that Monday-Wednesday. It was the first time 501st members have been invited for production in numbers, so we did not expect it at all and figured it was a commercial or something until we arrived at the studio. Production work involves LONG hours (12+) in armor, hence some of those troopers' unfortunate posture. This was not a troop or official event - we were cast as background actors. Taking photos at troops is one thing, but actually being a stormtrooper in Star Wars and running around all day in full armor is something else entirely. It was hard work but they were opportunities I'll cherish all my days.

Hello everyone! I just got 501 approved and detachment access. I originally bought my ANH Stunt TK kit back in 2020 right before I made a huge move in the US. My BBB showed up and it sat unopened for over a year. I moved it across the states, even! In 2021, amongst a pile of moving boxes and take-out food, I decided to open it and start building. I built a few pieces, promptly became intimidated, and put it all away. Come 2024, I decided to list it for sale on the internet. I hadn't touched it in years, and I had long given up on building the kit. I unsubscribed from the FISD newsletter and resigned myself to defeat. So, the listing sat....and sat.......and sat some more. Then, in 2025, a member of the New England Garrison reached out to me with the intent to buy my kit. GREAT! I could finally unload this pile of shame. Lets go! We chatted a bit, and he eventually convinced me that I could, in fact, build the kit, he and his fellow 501 members would help me. So instead of selling to him, I should build it......what?? Who does that? Anyway... "Sure," I thought, why not? So he talked me out of selling my own TK to him, and then added me to his little group chat. I looked at my TK sitting in my garage, and once again, it sat....... for 9 months. I accidentally found "Dad of Xander" on YouTube around this time. He had this incredible in-depth tutorial series. His approach to the kit finally shook me from my paralysis, and I started attacking the build. His series was filmed in a way that you could clearly see what he was doing while he was doing it. He also explained it in a very simple manner, and then showed you why you should do it. "I got this" I thought...... A lot of mistakes were made. A LOT of mistakes......some lessons I learned are: 1: Make the snap plates. It looks tedious. That's because it is. Do it anyway. Don't be lazy. 2: Don't do Super Glue. I know you can slam out a bunch of work really quickly. That's the problem......If you know, you know. 3: Measure Twice, Cut once. This goes without saying. But measure again before that cut. Seriously, and don't push the gap in on the tape measure. Its there for a reason.... 4: No Super Glue. Please...... 5: Did I mention don't do the Super Glue? 6: Carefully watch/read the entire tutorial, and then watch/read it again before you proceed. (Case and point, my thermal detonator) 7: Seriously, throw the superglue in the trash. The slow process of E6000 is so you have time to reflect on your mistakes and why you are doing this. Anyway, a little humor, but thank you again for all the help I received from here. I spent a lot of time lurking. I disappeared for so long that my account went inactive on here, even. Heck, I even unsubbed from the emails (I gotta turn that back on....ooops). Lucasfilm Retail Moratorium Lift May 2026 For most of the year we are under an embargo from Lucasfilm and can not attend retail locations unless prior approval has been given by them. At certain times of the year this embargo is lifted, generally around Movie releases, May 4th, Force Friday etc, the recent correspondence from LFL outlines the lift of the embargo: Lucasfilm has informed LEC that the retail moratorium is being lifted May 2-10. During this time, fan groups can appear in costume at retailers that sell Star Wars merchandise. All fans, costumed or otherwise, can participate with venues of their choice during this window of time with the restriction that costumed appearances must not be used in the advertising of the event or retail location. Although these appearances will be treated like open invitations, we leave it to the fan groups to independently organize around these events as they see fit. Lucasfilm will not need to approve or coordinate these. Please note that retail locations should not include restaurants, bars, or venues with no apparent reason to feature Star Wars characters. Costumed fans should not pose with merchandise or use the appearance to promote a specific product. In the coming weeks, we may send out a list of ‘preferred’ retailers from certain regions who would welcome fans to participate at their venues within these event windows, but you are all still welcome to make plans with appropriate retailers or venue hosts of your choice regardless of whether or not they appear on the list. In addition to the retail appearance lift, Lucasfilm is happy to allow fan groups to make appearances at their local theaters during the theatrical run of The Mandalorian and Grogu. Appearances should be limited to the theatre lobby and should not be advertised prior to appearance. Fan groups are allowed to word directly with their local theaters to schedule these appearances. Lucasfilm may send out invitations on behalf of theater chains that are interested in costumed fan appearances. While our Expect Infantry and Centurion programs get most of the attention, FISD staff wants to relaunch the Armorer Program (Currently called the Master Armorer Program). What is the Armorer Program you ask? Well, it is a program designed to recognize those troopers that go above and beyond to assist themselves and others in getting costumes built, submitted, and approved. One of the goals of all the detachments in the 501st Legion is to help members build and submit costumes that meet and hopefully exceed the minimum requirements of the Legion’s CRLs. Currently the Master Armorer program has the requirement of helping a minimum of 5 members achieve Expert Infantry status. The member must have spent at least 30min physically helping another member with cutting, gluing, sizing, etc, just because they want to help (no money exchanged). There are 3 levels of the award, FISD Armorer, FISD Senior Armorer and FISD Master Armorer. The new program will add a 4th level at the beginning called the Apprentice Armorer. The point scale will be as follows. 5 points - Apprentice Armorer 10 points - Armorer 20 points - Senior Armorer 30 points - Master Armorer If you love building armorer and love helping fellow members get their costumes built, then this is the program you’ve been searching for. These programs were designed for those who choose to take their armor above and beyond the minimum requirements for basic 501st Legion approval. It gives you the chance to show a level of dedication and pride that takes your armor closer to being as "screen accurate" as possible, without as much extra work as you may realize! For those unaware it is possible to achieve extra awards at Expert Infantry for each additional version costume you have approved, additional awards are not issued with another Expert Infantry number (you are only issued 1 Expert Infantry number) but you will see a star above the award on your profile and the thread title will show [APPROVED] 2nd, [APPROVED] 3rd, [APPROVED] 4th and so on. Next up was trooping with the ISG! If you can make it up to Scotland, you really should. Brian & the rest of the ISG folk were simply lovely. So welcoming, I felt like it was my home garrison. Whether it was ensuring I didn't run off on my own, introducing me to real Irn Bru, or helping me in & out with a new TK, every member of the ISG was simply brilliant. They truly embody the spirit of "troopers helping troopers" and what the 501st is about. My most sincere thanks go out to the members of the ISG, who made for me a very special troop. Completing two complex costumes like that shows just how dedicated he was to the craft. Jake joined the 501st Legion with the same goal we all share: to celebrate our love for Star Wars and to bring joy to others. Though his watch ended before he could deploy on his first mission, he was fully prepared to represent the Oklahoma Garrison with pride. We honor his enthusiasm and the commitment he made to become one of us. He will be remembered as a brother in arms who earned his place among us. Once a trooper, always a trooper. Condolences to his garrison, family and friends "Buckets Off" Sharon Hertzig fought a courageous battle with cancer and on March 12, 2022 (date is correct), lost her battle, with her sword in her hand, whilst surrounded by her family and friends. She was married to her best friend, Eric Hertzig, for 22 years before they travelled different paths. Sharon had a light that shone brightest for her children; Elden (Misty) Hertzig and Erin Dailey; brother, James Henriksen Jr; and grandson, Darrien Dailey. Her memory lives on in the laughter and stories shared by her friends and family made and found through the years. A lover of animals, singing, dancing, Sharon was also a proud member of the 501st Legion and Society for Creative Anachronism. She lit up every room she walked into and made a friend of every person she met. Sharon during her time with the legion was a member of the Alabama and the Alpine garrisons. Condolences to her garrison, family and friends "Buckets Off" On October 31, 2025, Mountain Garrison lost one of our Royal Guards when Justin Conner TKID-58696 passed away peacefully in his sleep. Born in the summer of 1977, perhaps it was inevitable that Justin would become a life-long Star Wars fan. His brother Josh (TKID-92041) remembers that they both always loved the red Royal Guards. When Josh joined the 501st Legion and Mountain Garrison in 2020, he tempted his younger brother Justin into joining a year later by encouraging him to build the Royal Guard that they both so admired. Quiet, protective, and fiercely loyal, Justin personified the Royal Guard. He especially enjoyed having the opportunity to troop as a guard with Darth Vader. Justin brought a great sense of humor and positive energy to events, even holding a “Palpatine” sign at an airport troop as if waiting for the Emperor himself to disembark from an incoming flight! Away from the 501st, Justin enjoyed costuming in other fandoms as well. Whether it was as a pirate, “Bender” from Futurama, or a well-dressed Easter Bunny, Justin derived great enjoyment from dressing to embody characters that he liked. In the “real” world, Justin was a proud veteran, loving uncle, and devoted friend. He shared his passions with friends and family, even upgrading his pirate costume especially for a god-daughter’s wedding. Justin is survived within Mountain Garrison by his brother Joshua Conner and his brother-by-choice Adam Ward (TKID-21455). Mountain Garrison was honored to be asked by the family to attend Justin’s grave-side memorial service at Ft. Logan National Cemetery on December 2, 2025 to honor his memory in costume. We were proud to have his niece and nephew join us in costume for their uncle’s memorial. Teenagers now, both are planning on joining when they reach 18 in his honor. Brad lived his life guided by service and passion. Many of us knew him through his dedication to volunteering, where he gave his time freely to bring joy, comfort, and hope to others. For Brad, helping people wasn’t an obligation — it was a privilege. He believed that giving back was one of the most meaningful ways to make the world better, and he lived that belief fully. Brad’s love for Star Wars wasn’t just about the stories or the characters — it was about what they represented. Through his years of involvement with the 501st Legion, Brad embodied those ideals. Wearing his costumes, he wasn’t pretending to be a hero — he was one. He brought smiles to children, comfort to families, and light to moments when it was needed most. He understood that sometimes a small act, a shared laugh, or a familiar character could mean everything. And then there was Brad the Ghostbuster — a role he embraced with enthusiasm and joy. Whether suiting up, volunteering, or sharing that unmistakable sense of fun, Brad reminded us all that doing good doesn’t have to be serious all the time. You can serve others while still having fun, while still being a kid at heart, while still believing in a little magic. While our Expect Infantry and Centurion programs get most of the attention, FISD staff wants to relaunch the Armorer Program (Currently called the Master Armorer Program). What is the Armorer Program you ask? Well, it is a program designed to recognize those troopers that go above and beyond to assist themselves and others in getting costumes built, submitted, and approved. One of the goals of all the detachments in the 501st Legion is to help members build and submit costumes that meet and hopefully exceed the minimum requirements of the Legion’s CRLs. Currently the Master Armorer program has the requirement of helping a minimum of 5 members achieve Expert Infantry status. The member must have spent at least 30min physically helping another member with cutting, gluing, sizing, etc, just because they want to help (no money exchanged). There are 3 levels of the award, FISD Armorer, FISD Senior Armorer and FISD Master Armorer. The new program will add a 4th level at the beginning called the Apprentice Armorer. The point scale will be as follows. 5 points - Apprentice Armorer 10 points - Armorer 20 points - Senior Armorer 30 points - Master Armorer If you love building armorer and love helping fellow members get their costumes built, then this is the program you’ve been searching for. The Tub Lid Mirror This is probably the most popular idea I've had at troops. So many times, we have to use car reflections or random things to try and see if our costumes look ok during events. There isn't always a mirror. Amazon carries plastic mirrors that I velcroed a couple to the bottom of my tub lid. When you lean your tub lid up against a wall, you can angle it to see how you look! I use this so much. And I'll find many of my fellow trooper's hover over my way to do a review of their kit as well. I also don't have to worry about heavier real mirrors that might crack, shatter, or add weight to your lid. Especially if you use your lid as a shelf like I do too! First troop was with Midwest Garrison 332 Blurrg Squad to visit OSF children’s hospital - the very opportunity I joined 501st to participate in! The family’s attorney confirmed she died of cancer. “Marcia will be remembered as a brilliant storyteller, a trailblazer for women in film, a loving mother and grandmother, a generous host, and a loyal friend whose humor and sparkle filled every room she entered. Robert Nuelle Jr TI - 62126 There's so much that could be said about Bob. He was an entomologist and studied bugs since he was a kid. He knew a lot about wildlife and took his family out fishing and to collect bugs often. He and his son Robert had been on numerous trips in Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and parts of Mexico to collect moths. His children, Liz and Robert, and Bob’s grandchild loved fishing with him. Bob’s loves of his life were his family. He was married to his wife Rosemary for almost 41 years, and he dedicated himself to being a wonderful dad and grandfather. He was so very proud of the family he and Rosemary built. Bob was also an outspoken advocate for other families of crime victims. His advocacy for others was spurred by his desire to save other people from the pain his family experienced. He spent so much of his time not only being vocal about his hope for justice for his daughter Liz, but in trying to help others find justice, too. Bob joined the Legion in June of 2021. He was the father of Eternal Legionnaire Liz Barraza. After Liz’s tragedy Bob stated to me that it was the Legion that gave him hope and helped him get through that very difficult time. He enjoyed the charity aspect of the 501st. Bob has positively improved victim advocacy in Texas. He worked with Crime Stoppers and Parents of Murdered Children, as well as other groups. Most recently, he brought forward a project that dedicates benches to victims and their families. The project is sponsored by county commissioner Tom Ramsey. Bob pitched the idea and helped get the program running. It includes planting a tree and placing a bench nearby with the victims name on it to give families a place to remember their loved ones. Bob worked with the Mayhew Foundation establishing a charity in Liz’s memory. Bob was in a constant state of seeking justice for his daughter Liz. He is now united with her. We will miss you Bob and we can only hope to emulate your positive light. While our Expect Infantry and Centurion programs get most of the attention, FISD staff wants to relaunch the Armorer Program (Currently called the Master Armorer Program). What is the Armorer Program you ask? Well, it is a program designed to recognize those troopers that go above and beyond to assist themselves and others in getting costumes built, submitted, and approved. One of the goals of all the detachments in the 501st Legion is to help members build and submit costumes that meet and hopefully exceed the minimum requirements of the Legion’s CRLs. Currently the Master Armorer program has the requirement of helping a minimum of 5 members achieve Expert Infantry status. The member must have spent at least 30min physically helping another member with cutting, gluing, sizing, etc, just because they want to help (no money exchanged). There are 3 levels of the award, FISD Armorer, FISD Senior Armorer and FISD Master Armorer. The new program will add a 4th level at the beginning called the Apprentice Armorer. The point scale will be as follows. 5 points - Apprentice Armorer 10 points - Armorer 20 points - Senior Armorer 30 points - Master Armorer If you love building armorer and love helping fellow members get their costumes built, then this is the program you’ve been searching for. Chest plate & Back plate Made in Blender The thing I like and find aesthetically pleasing about the R1TK is the nice bulbous protrusion of the front of the chest plate. Back plate The back greeblies. This is the hardest part of the plate that took me along time to reference since i couldn't find any reference images showing this angle. Last week I was lucky enough to be in Manchester (UK) to pick up a fresh set of RS armor, then head to Edinburgh to troop with the ISG (Imperial Scottish Garrison). Both were amazing experiences that I shall cherish forever, but wouldn't have happened without the incomparable Ryan Barlow - TD/SL 19809 - from the Imperial North Western Squad (UKG), to whom I'm eternally grateful. RS Visit While there, I was introduced to another Paul, who appeared in A New Home as a stormtrooper and has been spotted on film. In his hand is an original screen used helmet. Andrew joined the 501st in Nov. 2015 and was an active Stormtrooper and Tie Pilot for many years while serving his community as a Special Agent with the Georgia Bureau of Investigations. Andrew's work as a Special Agent focused on the agency's Firearm training and he often helped provide us with real world handling suggestions in proper blaster etiquette. Andrew served as COG (Captain of the Guard) for several command staffs over the years and he often could be found visiting children's hospitals and marching in parades. His calm and reassuring presence helped bring comfort to children and smiles to their faces in times that they had little to smile about. We will all miss Andrew's words of wisdom, but also his one liners at group lunches and after troop get togethers. This month saw the launch of the new CRL system replacing the aging wiki we've been using for years. This has been a huge amount of work for everyone involved across the legion teams. 100s of hours have gone into this to get it up and running and then migrate all of the CRLs to the new system. We only have 22 CRLs that needed to be moving but IOC have a huge 60 and the Clones a staggering 193 which took a number of people working to get moved over. NEW BUSINESS Helmet Bag Interest Thread We've been kicking this idea around for a few months, and we finally found a vendor that was willing to try and help us. We gave specs, and graphics, and they produced a sample product that was sent to me for evaluation. The proof of concept is missing some things, but I was giving swatches of the real materials that would be used. There is a list of corrections, including changes in the size to make sure it was tall enough to fit a FOTK, covering the zipper so not to scratch the finish on the helmets, more padding, nylon strapping for the handle, etc. But we wanted to get folks thoughts before we proceeded any further. It is the responsibility of all 501st approved members to fill out the census each year which you can find here (to enter use your legion forum login and password) You must be registered on the main forums to participate in the census:here Here's what the charter says about activity definitions: Operations Protocol/Membership An Active Member is defined as a member in good standing who meets the following requirements: Meets all 501st Membership Requirements (i.e. ownership of an approved costume, is over 18 years of age, etc). Has an approved membership record in the 501st Legion Membership Database Maintains active contact with their CO or GML. Active contact and participation will be confirmed during the annual Legion Census held each year during the month of October. Maintains contact information/membership record in the 501st Legion database either through their CO or GML. Participates in at least one Garrison or Legion activity per year while wearing an approved 501st costume owned by said member as recorded in the Legion Census. One year is defined as the period from Legion Census to Legion Census. Examples of an activity include, but are not limited to conventions, charity events, or any activity designated as an official event by a coordinating administrative unit of the Legion. Members who serve in military branches are exempt from activity level requirements if their service renders them unable to meet these requirements. These Minimum Activity Level Requirements should be administered as justly and with as much common sense as possible. A member may retain active status, even if they do not meet all of the requirements listed above at the discretion of their unit Commanding Officer or Legion Command. Filling out the census only takes a few minutes and you also have the opportunity to update your contact information ie: address, email, phone and so on. Why does this happen, and what is detachment affiliation anyway, and what will FISD do about it? The answer is that detachment affiliation is only ever used once a year, and for one purpose. The only time the Legion ever uses it for anything is to determine who can run for DL and who can vote in detachment elections. That's it. Otherwise it is pretty much ignored and not used for anything. The process of validating detachment membership is cumbersome and time consuming because people use different email information between their Legion and detachment logins, and that there is no way to bulk update the rosters. For a small detachment it is not a big deal to do this manually, but for a detachment the size of FISD with hundreds and soon thousands of 501st members, it's impossible. Fortunately we have technical folk both on FISD and in the Legion web team. Once a year they take a feed from FISD's database and do a bulk update on the Legion database. This occurs right before the election cycle starts and is done once per year. Pro tips: 1) Ensure the email address you use on the Legion & FISD boards are the exact same. 2) Ensure that your FISD profile has the correct TKID. 3) IMPORTANT! You MUST be in the right security group. It should be "501st Stormtrooper" in order for the automated system to pull you over. This thread is where you get your detachment access updated. 4) If after the bulk update is complete and your profile is still not updated, and you are 100% sure your info is in sync between the two boards, then ask for to the Legion web team. They should get feedback on why this isn't working. 5) If all else fails, ping the FISD staff. Which basically means that we'll simply tell the 501st web team to bulk approve everyone 6) If still you have no luck you can contact the legion web team directly via email: [email protected] To check detachment affiliation go to the 501st holocron here, login using your 501st forum username and password, click on YOUR PROFILE DATA, then look down the lower part of the page for YOUR UNIT AFFILIATION, then under DETACHMENT AFFILIATION. If you do not see FISD listed reach out to your GML (garrison membership liaison) as they can add it if you are an approved Stormtrooper. While our Expect Infantry and Centurion programs get most of the attention, FISD staff wants to relaunch the Armorer Program (Currently called the Master Armorer Program). What is the Armorer Program you ask? Well, it is a program designed to recognize those troopers that go above and beyond to assist themselves and others in getting costumes built, submitted, and approved. One of the goals of all the detachments in the 501st Legion is to help members build and submit costumes that meet and hopefully exceed the minimum requirements of the Legion’s CRLs. Currently the Master Armorer program has the requirement of helping a minimum of 5 members achieve Expert Infantry status. The member must have spent at least 30min physically helping another member with cutting, gluing, sizing, etc, just because they want to help (no money exchanged). There are 3 levels of the award, FISD Armorer, FISD Senior Armorer and FISD Master Armorer. The new program will add a 4th level at the beginning called the Apprentice Armorer. The point scale will be as follows. 5 points - Apprentice Armorer 10 points - Armorer 20 points - Senior Armorer 30 points - Master Armorer If you love building armorer and love helping fellow members get their costumes built, then this is the program you’ve been searching for. Condolences to her garrison, family and friends "Buckets Off" The Northeast Remnant mourns the loss of Matthew A. Dunlop, SL-41772, a dedicated trooper whose passion for costuming, community, and charity embodied the true spirit of the 501st Legion. Matthew joined the Legion in 2016 in the Empire City Garrison before eventually transferring to the Northeast Remnant in January of 2023. Matt brought joy to countless fans and stood as a pillar of strength and camaraderie within our Garrison and many of our surrounding sister clubs. He is survived by his wife, daughter and granddaughter Though his watch has ended, his memory will live on in the hearts of his Legion brothers and sisters, and across the galaxy he helped make a little brighter. Condolences to his garrison, family and friends "Buckets Off" Greetings troopers, This month we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the detachment. On the 7th July 2006 the detachment was founded by @Daetrin. Since then it's been front and centre of the 501st Legion with that familiar white armour we all love. We've seen the costume start with the original FX armour, through to more accurate sculpts and even cast from screen used now being available to us. Something early troopers would probably believed impossible. Over the years we picked up new CRLs, mainly from books or video games but that all changed in 2015 with the release of The Force Awakens. All of a sudden we have new films, new premieres and once again the white armour was front and centre. Since then Rogue One introduced us to a modern interpretation of the Empire era armour, and Ahsoka took it and made it unique again. We even managed to pick up an armour with soft parts, the Imperial Commando. Troopers helping troopers became an unofficial motto. Troopers would go out of their way to help others. The billgram became a common sight, and many troopers still produce images to help guide others to a completed build. In person help has also been a backbone of troopers helping troopers. Armour parties being common through the legion, and we even recognise those who help in person via the Master Armourer Program. Since it's founding we've had a huge number of members come our way. And really it's the troopers who make the detachment. Whilst I will always be hugely grateful for all of the staff members past and present, without the troopers we'd be pretty lonely. Finally I would like to take a moment to remember the troopers we have lost along the way. Buckets off. Congratulations FISD on 20 years. Here's to another 20. Detachment Founder Greetings troopers! They say time flies when you are having fun and being able to troop in a stormtrooper costume is one of the more fun things we get to do on these forums is enjoying the camaraderie of our fellow troops while spreading peace and harmony throughout the galaxy. On our 5th Anniversary we compiled a little data and were feeling pretty good that in 5 short years we went from nothing to having 550 detachment members, which made FISD the largest unit in the Legion. And, that 172 troopers had taken the challenge to go Expert Infantry, representing 8% of all Legion stormtroopers. Everyone felt it was a great start given that the detachment started out with only 10 members, the Expert Infantry program was still under discussion and the Centurion program hadn’t even been dreamed of, as our main focus was on creating useful content and, among other things, figuring out what we were going to call the detachment! Here is the data from 2011: 2006 2011 Total Legion TKs ? 2,266 Det. Members 10 550 Expert Infantry - 172 Centurions - 12 Costumes Covered 3 7 Forum Members 10 3,463 Total Posts 10 190,225 % Expert Infantry - 8% % Centurion - 1% One of the leading contenders for our new detachment's name was “Stormfront”, however that is until it was pointed out that this name was being used by a neo-Nazi group. Oops! In 2006 the Legion had also a new requirement which specified that all new detachments had to have the word “detachment” in their name, so the days of calling a sandtrooper detachment by something cool like the Mos Eisley Police Department were at and end, and we had to come up with something else. The "1st" in FISD is a reference to the Army usage of identifying Corps by a Roman numeral, e.g. XVIII is the 18th Corp. I Corp equals First Corp, and we wanted to be at the front of the action. Since we couldn't use "1st Imperial Stormtrooper Corp" and we were already part of a Legion, we settled on the First Imperial Stormtrooper Detachment. Over the past 20 years FISD has continued to grow in leaps and bounds. As of 18/07/2026 Total legion approved costumes 35,009 Total Stormtrooper approved costumes 4,848 Percentage of TK costumes 13.85%, which has seen a steady decline over the last 10 years TK version totals The detachment that we have today would have been unrecognizable 10 years ago, let alone 20. Before the advent of Facebook, the only place to discuss stormtrooper costuming was right here on these forums and so checking in every day or at least every week was a "must" for anyone who wanted to keep up with all that was going on. While some things have changed, what hasn’t is our mission. It is still as vital today as it was when we started. Below is one of the first posts I ever made to the forums on July 10th, 2006. VISION The 1st Imperial Stormtroopers are a Detachment of the 501st Legion, dedicated to the armor and equipment of stormtroopers as seen in Star Wars. They strive for accuracy in costuming and to discuss everything stormtrooper related. Their mission is to serve the needs of both current and prospective members of the 501st Legion, in keeping with their unofficial motto: "troopers helping troopers”. WHAT THE GROUP HOPES TO ACCOMPLISH: 1. Promote the current quality standards for the stormtrooper costume as established by the 501st. 2. Develop and create a higher standard of stormtrooper costume for members to achieve and a "kudo" (e.g. deployed status) as a recognition of that accomplishment (the same way the Mos Eisley Police Department has create a higher standard for MEPD Deployment). The goal of this is not to force people to achieve the higher standard, but rather to demonstrate what the costume can become and recognize those who achieve it. 3. Create an open and respectful forum for all discussions stormtrooper related, regardless of whether or not they are Original Trilogy or Expanded Universe. One major goal of the detachment is to celebrate the stormtrooper costume in all its forms, and the Star Wars costuming hobby in general. 4. Create and foster an esprit de corp for the stormtrooper costume. Some members complain that their garrison is stormtrooper-centric, others that the stormtrooper is looked down upon. By having a central space where stormtroopers can congregate and celebrate their costume, it removes the ?us versus them? mentality that has crept into some organizations, and establishes the stormtrooper costume as one of many equals. Life can be fast paced and can get crazy from time to time, and things do not always changed for the better (pandemic anyone?). It's reassuring to know that one thing doesn't change, and that is the indominable spirit of this detachment, embodied by our official motto "Unquestioned Loyalty" tempered with our unofficial motto, and true calling, of "troopers helping troopers". Some notable information: 1. Ed Da Silva was the first ever DXO, and he and I worked on the detachment logo together. Most of the design elements were mine, but he added a few items of his own too. M'Lord - Mark Fordham - the LCO at the time, did the final render. Ed was also the second DL after myself, and was the person most responsible for pushing the Legion to agree to split the single stormtrooper CRL (at the time there was only one that covered all TK variations) into 3: ANH, ESB, and ROTJ. 2. Carlos "Buttah Trooper" was also one of the original FISD staff as the Sergeant at Arms, and helped ensure that everyone "played nice" on the forums. 3. FISD was the first detachment to have a "where to buy armor" area that the public could access, and the first to have a newsletter. Also, the first to have awards like achievement medals, etc. for outstanding service to the detachment. 4. Expert Infantry was originally called "Mark", e.g. Mark IV TK meant an "expert" ANH TK. It was unwieldy to say the least, and switching to using "Expert Infantry" was me making an executive decision. 5. Did you know: Dean Plantamura's "White Armor Chronicles" website https://tk899.blogspot.com/ was a key inspiration for FISD, along with the MEPD boards? Dean is the "spiritual godfather" of FISD! Well, it is a program designed to recognize those troopers that go above and beyond to assist themselves and others in getting costumes built, submitted, and approved. One of the goals of all the detachments in the 501st Legion is to help members build and submit costumes that meet and hopefully exceed the minimum requirements of the Legion’s CRLs. Currently the Master Armorer program has the requirement of helping a minimum of 5 members achieve Expert Infantry status. The member must have spent at least 30min physically helping another member with cutting, gluing, sizing, etc, just because they want to help (no money exchanged). There are 3 levels of the award, FISD Armorer, FISD Senior Armorer and FISD Master Armorer. The new program will add a 4th level at the beginning called the Apprentice Armorer. The point scale will be as follows. 5 points - Apprentice Armorer 10 points - Armorer 20 points - Senior Armorer 30 points - Master Armorer If you love building armorer and love helping fellow members get their costumes built, then this is the program you’ve been searching for. I haven't been taking as many photos because it's all just prime/paint/sand etc, but I've painted the calves, spats, thighs, and shoulders: I'm also fixing the last few imperfections in the chest and back: As well as priming the ab, biceps, and finally the helmet/snout: In non-painting news, I dyed the lens and it worked amazingly! I used one packet of iDye Poly, did the first dunk for 5 mins, then a second dunk for 2 mins. One of the lenses got slightly deformed because the water was a bit too hot, but it's thin enough that it can still be installed in the proper shape. (I'm sending one to @zediyeti because we are fellow tiny-TKs and our helmets are printed at 92% and 93% respectively). My grill has a burner so I was able to do it all outside and not risk getting dye all over our very white kitchen. I used these videos as guidance:

You hit the nail on the head about the supplemental pieces! For the interim, and to keep this build on schedule, I’m sticking with Paul's files for the arms, hands, and abdomen. They’re still the most accurate versions available for those sections. Down the road, I do plan to model these myself to improve their overall durability and refine the details specifically for a TK rather than a Shoretrooper. I’m also using Paul's shins (and his molded cover strips). While Akira's shins are workable, the shape is technically a bit off; they're a little too bulbous at the top, whereas the screen-accurate look requires a much more gradual profile from top to bottom. And, I've been a bit "obsessed" with resin printing this past week: There's also been this quick trial run with some free resin I received. Not the optimal layer height, or clear coat (didn't want to waste 2K)... but it proves the concept works.

Hello fellow troopers! I'm thrilled to share that I've just received my approval for an ANH Stunt build, featuring an MFX armor set and an RS Prop Masters helmet, a combination I'm genuinely proud of. The armor itself came to me secondhand and in rather rough shape, so the entire build was essentially a full restoration from the ground up, including a complete re-strapping. It's been a rewarding challenge. The blaster is a 3D-printed replica, and the boots are dyed Chelsea boots that turned out surprisingly well. This is actually my third costume overall, but my first armor build -and I have to say, the experience of trooping as a Stormtrooper is something else entirely compared to my previous outings as an Imperial Staff Officer. There's a very different energy to it. Before the final approval, I took the armor out for a full test-wear to make sure I could realistically handle 5–6 hours in it. Let's just say - you all know exactly what I mean when I say it's demanding. But the moment you're in full kit and catch your reflection, every bit of discomfort becomes an afterthought. Hydration, Heat Illness, Blisters & Injury Prevention After more than 23 years as a firefighter/paramedic, I've seen firsthand how quickly heat exposure can turn from discomfort into a medical emergency. I've managed dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke in real-world operational environments, and the pattern is always the same: it builds quietly, then escalates fast if it's not recognized early. This guide is strongly aligned with current emergency medicine, sports medicine, and occupational heat illness guidance, while being adapted for practical field use. I have not yet trooped in armor, as I do not currently own a suit, but I am actively working toward building one. I felt it was important to share my background in emergency medicine and field experience with heat stress in similar environments to help keep this community safe during summer troops and long convention days. While the gear is different, I can strongly relate from years of operating in full bunker gear with an SCBA during structure fires and extended wildland operations—often with limited rest, high exertion, and continuous heat exposure. The physiology is very similar: trapped heat, heavy exertion, and fluid loss can overwhelm the body faster than expected. UNDERSTANDING HEAT IN ARMOR Heat retention is how well your body holds onto heat versus how efficiently it can release it. Your body is constantly producing heat—even at rest. Normally, it cools itself through: Sweat evaporation Airflow over the skin (convection) Heat radiating away from the body Contact with cooler surfaces Armor and undersuits interfere with those cooling mechanisms. HOW ARMOR INCREASES HEAT STRESS Armor does not increase heat production—it reduces the body's ability to release heat. Sweat cannot evaporate efficiently (primary cooling failure point) Heat becomes trapped between skin, undersuit, and armor layers Airflow is restricted, reducing cooling Sunlight heats armor surfaces, which radiate heat inward The body becomes less efficient at dumping heat into the environment KEY POINT Heat illness in armor is not about producing excessive heat—it is about the body losing its ability to release heat effectively. HUMIDITY (THE HIDDEN HEAT RISK) Humidity is one of the most overlooked factors in heat illness. Even when temperatures are moderate, high humidity can dramatically increase risk because sweat cannot evaporate efficiently. This means: The body loses its primary cooling mechanism Heat stress builds faster than expected Indoor convention spaces with poor airflow can still become dangerous FIELD REMINDER High humidity can be just as dangerous as high temperature because it blocks the body's ability to cool itself. WHY THIS MATTERS As heat retention increases: Core temperature rises faster Fatigue develops sooner Dehydration occurs more rapidly Mental focus and reaction time decrease HYDRATION & ELECTROLYTES SIMPLE HYDRATION RULE During long or hot troops, alternate water with electrolyte drinks regularly instead of relying on water alone. Good options include: Gatorade Pedialyte Liquid IV TriOral ORS PRE-HYDRATION (BEFORE THE EVENT) Drink 16–20 oz (500–600 mL) of water 1–2 hours before the troop Add another 8–12 oz (250–350 mL) 15–30 minutes before activity if tolerated Include electrolytes if significant heat or exertion is expected BOTTOM LINE You don't catch up on hydration during the troop—you start ahead of it. NORMAL BODY RESPONSE You may need to urinate more frequently after pre-hydration. This is normal. Once activity begins and sweating increases, fluid shifts toward cooling and urine output typically decreases. IMPORTANT HYDRATION SAFETY NOTE Avoid excessive water intake without electrolyte replacement during prolonged sweating, as this can dilute sodium levels and create dangerous electrolyte imbalance. WHY ELECTROLYTES MATTER When you sweat, you primarily lose sodium and chloride, along with smaller amounts of: Potassium Magnesium Calcium These minerals are essential for: Fluid balance Muscle contraction Nerve signaling Heart electrical conduction and rhythm KEY POINT Water replaces fluid. Electrolytes help your body maintain proper fluid balance and normal function under heat stress. FOOD-BASED SUPPORT (SUPPORTING YOUR HYDRATION PLAN) These foods are not replacements for fluids or electrolyte drinks—they are supplements to your hydration plan. Bananas → potassium source Pickles / pickle juice → sodium replacement Mustard → anecdotal cramp relief (limited evidence) FIELD REMINDER Use alongside water and electrolyte drinks, not instead of them. Best use cases: During breaks After heavy sweating During recovery periods ALCOHOL, CAFFEINE & SODA Alcohol increases dehydration risk and heat stress Moderate caffeine intake is generally tolerated in most people Soda is generally not ideal for hydration during heat exposure URINE COLOR GUIDE Pale straw / light yellow → well hydrated Yellow → generally normal Dark yellow → dehydrated Amber → significant dehydration MEDICAL CONDITIONS & MEDICATIONS If you have underlying medical conditions or take prescription medications, consult your primary care provider about a hydration and electrolyte plan that fits your medical needs. Examples include: Diabetes High blood pressure (hypertension) Congestive heart failure (CHF) Kidney disease Cardiac conditions Diuretic ("water pill") use Some medical conditions and medications can: Increase dehydration risk Affect electrolyte balance Reduce heat tolerance Limit safe fluid intake IMPORTANT NOTE A hydration strategy that works for one person may not be appropriate for another depending on their medical history and medications. ACCLIMATIZATION & COOLING ACCLIMATIZATION (PREPARING FOR THE HEAT) One of the most overlooked parts of heat safety is acclimatization. Your body gradually adapts to heat exposure over time by: Improving sweat efficiency Cooling more effectively Reducing cardiovascular strain Improving heat tolerance The first major hot-weather troop of the season is often the hardest because the body has not yet adapted. FIELD REMINDER Don't go from air conditioning straight into an all-day summer troop without giving your body time to adapt to the heat. COOLING GEAR (OPTIONAL BUT USEFUL) Cooling tools can significantly improve comfort and safety during troops, especially in armor. Examples include: Helmet fans to improve airflow inside the bucket Neck fans for external cooling during breaks Cooling towels for rapid temperature reduction Moisture-wicking compression layers under armor Portable cooling vests for extended outdoor events BOTTOM LINE Cooling gear helps reduce heat strain, but it does not replace hydration, breaks, or proper pacing. COOLING & REHAB AREA Firefighters use rehab and cooling areas during prolonged operations for a reason—cooling early prevents medical emergencies later. If possible during troops or conventions: Take scheduled cooldown breaks Remove helmets first to improve airflow and cooling Move into shade or air conditioning Use fans or cooling towels Change out wet undershirts or socks if needed Rehydrate before symptoms become severe SIMPLE RULE Cooling early is easier than recovering late. HEAT CRAMPS (EARLY WARNING STAGE) Heat cramps are one of the earliest clinically recognized forms of exertional heat illness and are strongly associated with heavy sweating, sodium loss, and sustained muscular exertion in hot environments. This is consistent with emergency medicine and sports medicine guidance (CDC, NWS, ACSM). COMMON SIGNS & SYMPTOMS Painful, involuntary muscle spasms Typically affects calves, thighs, arms, or abdomen Occurs during or after heavy sweating/exertion Muscles may feel tight, knotted, or "locked up" Profuse sweating is usually present Body temperature is typically normal or only mildly elevated Accompanied by thirst and early fatigue WHAT IS HAPPENING Heat cramps are primarily caused by fluid and electrolyte loss—especially sodium—leading to abnormal muscle contraction and neuromuscular irritability. WHAT TO DO IMMEDIATELY Stop activity Move to a cooler environment Replace fluids with electrolyte-containing drinks Gently stretch and massage affected muscle groups Rest before returning to activity FIELD REMINDER Heat cramps are an early warning sign that the body is losing its ability to maintain electrolyte balance under heat stress. They often precede heat exhaustion if ignored. HEAT EXHAUSTION (WARNING STAGE) Heat exhaustion is the body's early failure to keep up with cooling demands. COMMON SIGNS & SYMPTOMS Heavy sweating Fatigue or sudden weakness Dizziness or lightheadedness Nausea Muscle cramps Fast heart rate In many cases, fatigue, dizziness, and cramping may appear before headache develops. WHAT TO DO IMMEDIATELY Stop activity Remove or reduce gear if safe Move to shade or a cooler environment Actively cool with airflow, fans, cool towels, or cold packs Sip fluids slowly HYDRATION + ELECTROLYTES Prioritize electrolyte drinks + water Drink small amounts frequently FIELD REMINDER Don't wait for severe symptoms—fatigue, dizziness, and cramping are early warning signs that should be taken seriously. Stopping early and cooling down is always better than becoming a medical emergency. HEAT STROKE (MEDICAL EMERGENCY) Heat stroke is a life-threatening emergency involving dangerous elevation of body temperature and central nervous system dysfunction. WARNING SIGNS Confusion Altered mental status Collapse Seizures Hot skin IMMEDIATE ACTIONS Call 911 immediately Remove armor and excess gear Begin rapid active cooling immediately Apply ice packs to the neck, armpits, and groin IMPORTANT NOTE Rapid cooling is the priority in suspected heat stroke. BLISTERS & FOOT CARE (MOST COMMON TROOP INJURY) Blisters are caused by friction, heat, and moisture. PREVENTION Proper boot fit (no heel slip or pressure points) Moisture-wicking socks (avoid cotton) Change socks during long troops if possible Treat hot spots early EARLY INTERVENTION (HOT SPOTS) Stop and adjust immediately if possible Apply moleskin, blister tape, or athletic tape Reduce friction Keep the area dry FIELD REMINDER Treating a hot spot early almost always prevents a blister. IF A BLISTER FORMS Small / intact blisters: Do not pop if possible Clean gently Cover with hydrocolloid dressing or a moleskin "donut" Large / painful blisters: Clean the area Drain only if necessary using sterile technique Leave the skin roof intact Cover and offload pressure AFTER CARE Keep clean and dry Monitor for infection: redness warmth swelling pus worsening pain MINOR INJURIES Common issues during troops include: Chafing Muscle cramps Minor cuts and scrapes Strains or minor sprains TREATMENT Chafing / cuts / scrapes: Clean with a BZK (benzalkonium chloride) antiseptic wipe as primary field cleaning Follow with soap and water when available Cover and protect the area Reduce friction Keep clean and dry Muscle cramps: Stop activity Stretch and gently massage Hydrate and replace electrolytes Rest Persistent or severe cramping may indicate worsening heat stress. Strains / sprains (acute injuries): RICE is useful in the early phase (first 24–48 hours). R – Rest I – Ice C – Compression E – Elevation FIELD REMINDER Match treatment to the injury—clean wounds with BZK, hydrate for cramps, and use RICE for acute sprains or strains. BUDDY SYSTEM & HANDLERS Handlers and wranglers play a critical safety role during troops. Always operate with a trusted buddy Check in regularly Handlers often notice early signs of heat stress before the trooper does Be willing to remove someone from activity if needed Don't let excitement override safety In high-energy environments, the experience is important—but safety comes first. SIMPLE RULE It's better to step out and cool down than become a medical emergency. FINAL THOUGHTS No troop is worth a medical emergency. Heat illness is predictable and preventable. Start hydrated Hydrate consistently Use electrolytes in heat Treat hot spots early Look out for your buddy Rest before you crash Stay safe and look out for each other. Troopers helping troopers.

You can find more information here. 20th Anniversary Coin Run The coin run closed on 9 Feb 2026. UPDATE TIME: Good news/Bad news. It looks like the coins are in the final stage for productions. They will soon be going through Q&A and then sorted and shipped to the distribution points. This is the good news. Now the bad news, at least for the US/South America Troopers, I'll be out of town for 3 weeks starting 22 April. I'm being sent to Seattle, WA (via Chicago, IL for a week) for work, and will not be returning home until 16 May. So the coins more than likely will be shipped and delivered to my home while I'm out of town. So while the international folks will start sending coins to their members, I will not be able to do so until late May. And with there being an insane number of troops in our area the week I return (for Mando/Grogu movie), more than likely will not have time to sort and start shipping until the last week of May/first week of June. At certain times of the year this embargo is lifted, generally around Movie releases, May 4th, Force Friday etc, the recent correspondence from LFL outlines the lift of the embargo: Lucasfilm has informed LEC that the retail moratorium is being lifted May 2-10. During this time, fan groups can appear in costume at retailers that sell Star Wars merchandise. All fans, costumed or otherwise, can participate with venues of their choice during this window of time with the restriction that costumed appearances must not be used in the advertising of the event or retail location. Although these appearances will be treated like open invitations, we leave it to the fan groups to independently organize around these events as they see fit. Lucasfilm will not need to approve or coordinate these. Please note that retail locations should not include restaurants, bars, or venues with no apparent reason to feature Star Wars characters. Costumed fans should not pose with merchandise or use the appearance to promote a specific product. In the coming weeks, we may send out a list of ‘preferred’ retailers from certain regions who would welcome fans to participate at their venues within these event windows, but you are all still welcome to make plans with appropriate retailers or venue hosts of your choice regardless of whether or not they appear on the list. The Mandalorian and Grogu In addition to the retail appearance lift, Lucasfilm is happy to allow fan groups to make appearances at their local theaters during the theatrical run of The Mandalorian and Grogu. Appearances should be limited to the theatre lobby and should not be advertised prior to appearance. Fan groups are allowed to word directly with their local theaters to schedule these appearances. Lucasfilm may send out invitations on behalf of theater chains that are interested in costumed fan appearances. Appearances are subject to whatever rules are in place at the local theater and it will need to be made clear that you are fans in costumes and not official Star Wars character appearances. *REMEMBER* Always follow your garrison/squad/outpost guidelines when it comes to organizing Disney/LFL promotional troops, only command staff should deal directly with LFL. Forum Fundraising It's that time of year where we need to pay our bills. As last year we moved away from the temporary legion hosting and on to our own systems we have an increase in costs to cover. As a stretch goal we have also included a proper backup solution into the costs. Currently this is managed manually and a proper solution would be a great addition. We would like cover the next 14 months of costs if possible. This means next years admin team are not thrown in with suddenly having to run a fundraiser. While our Expect Infantry and Centurion programs get most of the attention, FISD staff wants to relaunch the Armorer Program (Currently called the Master Armorer Program). What is the Armorer Program you ask? Well, it is a program designed to recognize those troopers that go above and beyond to assist themselves and others in getting costumes built, submitted, and approved. One of the goals of all the detachments in the 501st Legion is to help members build and submit costumes that meet and hopefully exceed the minimum requirements of the Legion’s CRLs. Currently the Master Armorer program has the requirement of helping a minimum of 5 members achieve Expert Infantry status. The member must have spent at least 30min physically helping another member with cutting, gluing, sizing, etc, just because they want to help (no money exchanged). There are 3 levels of the award, FISD Armorer, FISD Senior Armorer and FISD Master Armorer. The new program will add a 4th level at the beginning called the Apprentice Armorer. The point scale will be as follows. 5 points - Apprentice Armorer 10 points - Armorer 20 points - Senior Armorer 30 points - Master Armorer If you love building armorer and love helping fellow members get their costumes built, then this is the program you’ve been searching for. We look forward to awarding more members with this award as we know how much we all love Troopers helping Troopers. These programs were designed for those who choose to take their armor above and beyond the minimum requirements for basic 501st Legion approval. It gives you the chance to show a level of dedication and pride that takes your armor closer to being as "screen accurate" as possible, without as much extra work as you may realize! For those unaware it is possible to achieve extra awards at Expert Infantry for each additional version costume you have approved, additional awards are not issued with another Expert Infantry number (you are only issued 1 Expert Infantry number) but you will see a star above the award on your profile and the thread title will show [APPROVED] 2nd, [APPROVED] 3rd, [APPROVED] 4th and so on. While our Expect Infantry and Centurion programs get most of the attention, FISD staff wants to relaunch the Armorer Program (Currently called the Master Armorer Program). What is the Armorer Program you ask? Well, it is a program designed to recognize those troopers that go above and beyond to assist themselves and others in getting costumes built, submitted, and approved. One of the goals of all the detachments in the 501st Legion is to help members build and submit costumes that meet and hopefully exceed the minimum requirements of the Legion’s CRLs. Currently the Master Armorer program has the requirement of helping a minimum of 5 members achieve Expert Infantry status. The member must have spent at least 30min physically helping another member with cutting, gluing, sizing, etc, just because they want to help (no money exchanged). There are 3 levels of the award, FISD Armorer, FISD Senior Armorer and FISD Master Armorer. The new program will add a 4th level at the beginning called the Apprentice Armorer. Hey everyone, Just a quick message to introduce myself—I’m Ben Weiss from the UK. After what may be the longest build in UKG history (a solid 10-year WIP… yes, really!), I finally suited up for my first troop in Manchester this past weekend—and absolutely loved every second of it. A highlight of the day was meeting Paul Hoeffer, and I had the honour of him placing my UKG insignia on my armour—definitely a moment I won’t forget. Out of frustration, I put the build down for about 4 years, until after I got a 3D printer and I realized I might be able to 3D print some pieces of armor. I actually bought 2 sets of files, this one from Etsy and this one from CGTrader. Edit: I think the chest is from CGTrader and the back is from the Etsy files. I wish I took better notes. :) I also decided on PETG for heat resistance. I scaled the back and chest down (I can't remember how much; I think it's at 90% scale) and did a few test prints: Two different sizes. Left is 100%, right is 90%. The fun thing about 3D printing is that you can also modify the files before printing. I don't actually know how to use any modeling software, so I did everything in the slicer. Some simple mods were: Cutting slots in the yoke, and I also shortened it so I could better fit my arms through (not shown in this pic). Lowering the neck of the chest, and slightly shortening the tips: Lengthening the 'wings' of the chest so they overlap the back more: Here's the result of that. I'll fill the extra square: I printed the yoke so that it will flex with the layer lines, but with the back being in 4 pieces, I'm worried about the flex, so I backed the seams with some extra ABS: Here's a sizing check. Some tweaks for comfort and fit, but I was much happier with the size: A comparison of the KB chest on the left and the printed chest on the right. You'll notice that the smaller chest reveals a new problem, which is that now the helmet looks too big...

I’ve been… busy. Mostly printing. Mostly sanding. Mostly reprinting things I had already convinced myself were finished, and realizing in writing this post, that statement couldn't be farther from the truth. A few updates ago I proudly declared in true Michael Scott fashion, “I declare, the models are finished!” which turned out to be… wildly optimistic. Unfortunately for me—but hopefully beneficial for anyone building these down the road—I’ve continued refining nearly every piece. I have a bad habit of seeing something that’s 90% right and immediately convincing myself it needs to become 95%... or close to 99%. The biggest revision this time around was the back insert. Yep, same one I've been chasing since May. After digging through some additional reference photos, I realized the recess/cavity was a bit too deep. The “II” details should sit nearly flush with the surrounding lip, while the five horizontal ribs protrude just slightly beyond them. It isn’t a dramatic change, but it’s one of those little details that kept bothering me every time I looked at it. So naturally, with the back armor now nearly ready for its base coat (minus a few touch-ups here and there), it was time to move back to the absolute bane of my existence… The thighs. Surprisingly, the actual design wasn’t the problem this time, printing it was. My first test prints in PLA fit and functioned exactly how I’d hoped, which was an enormous relief after everything these parts have put me through. Then ABS decided to remind me that overhangs actually require proper supports. Who would’ve thought? Thankfully, after tweaking a few settings and giving the printer another shot, everything came together exactly as intended. (Ugh… vertical photos throwing off my groove.) One of my bigger regrets earlier in this build was spending the time to fabricate a belt out of HDPE. It worked, and truthfully, I'm still actually quite proud of it if I were going in a slightly different approach. But somewhere along the way, this project quietly evolved into asking myself a different question: “How much of this suit can I actually 3D print?” So… naturally… I modeled the belt too. And in typical fashion, I repeated this step exactly five times until I got the results I needed. Using the behind-the-scenes Andor photos from the FISD gallery as my primary reference, I tried to replicate the proportions as closely as possible while still making something practical to print and assemble. I didn’t quite get enough time over the weekend to remove all of the supports, or even attempt to sand it, but here’s a look at the Blender renders along with a few close-ups of the boxes that are currently being reprinted in resin. And for reference, here’s the enhanced gallery image I based everything from. Working from a single photograph at a less-than-ideal angle makes proportions more art than science, but I think it landed surprisingly close. The only real liberty I took was making the two center boxes separate pieces. It’s entirely possible the production belts molded these as one component—or simply glued them together afterward. Without seeing the backs of the pieces, or talking with team that originally built the armor, it’s hard to know for certain, and frankly… that’s one rabbit hole I’m trying not to disappear down. With all of that out of the way, I finally lined everything up last night just to see where I actually stood. For the first time since starting this project… it finally feels like I’m building a Stormtrooper instead of a collection of individual parts. There are still a few pieces missing from this photo (the newly printed belts being one of them), but they’re all sitting elsewhere in my "workshop" (really, a glorified garage with A/C) waiting their turn. By the end of this build I’ll probably do a dedicated “Hall of Shame” update showcasing all of the failed prints, duplicates, redesigns, and abandoned parts I’ve accumulated over the last six months. Trust me… there’s a lot I’m not showing here. So, what’s left? At this point, the roadmap is actually pretty straightforward: Final primer of most of the parts and some obvious touch-up work Internal strapping and snap installation Full test fit (I'm the most excited for this) Base coat Final assembly I’m planning to tackle the internal strapping before moving fully into paint so I can verify everything fits the way I intended. I’d much rather discover a problem now than after everything has already been painted... as I'm getting a bit tired of reprinting things that are too far along. There are still a handful of pieces I’m not completely satisfied with—mainly the cod and posterior, which are leftovers from my early Akira-printing days. Those will almost certainly get revisited before I submit for approval, but they’re no longer preventing me from moving forward even if I do end up sticking with them temporarily... As I mentioned a few updates ago, I’m still very much in “go mode.” Originally, my goal was simply to have everything ready for a Halloween costume party. Now… I honestly think I might beat that deadline. Six months ago, I thought the hard part was learning how to 3D print. Turns out it was randomly deciding to learn Blender. Now that the modeling is (mostly…) behind me, it’s finally time to build the Stormtrooper I’ve been imagining since December. My soft parts should be shipping any day now, the finish line is finally in sight, and if everything continues going according to plan… I might actually be submitting for Legion approval a little sooner than I originally expected. Fingers crossed.

Just a quick update. It's been going well to paint over the ABS that has been sprayed with filler primer. No more scratch marks. I'm still not great with spraying gloss so some orange peel, eg on this knee armor. However, after wet sanding with 1500, 2000, then polishing with a plastic polish + microfiber sponge, I'm getting a nice smooth gloss that should be ready for clear: The forearm seam is much smoother after the milliput: One small setback is that many of the seams on my 3D printed parts have been splitting. I did not plastic weld all of them, and every one I didn't weld has split eventually. I actually think it may be because I'm using acetone-thinned Bondo spot putty to smooth the surface, and I think it's eating the CA glue. So I sanded the chest and back seams and welded them, then filled and sanded with milliput: I'll spray them with filler primer today to check out how the seams look. One other thing I can't remember if I'd mentioned before was that a while back when I was heat shaping one of the calf pieces, I put quite a large dent in it. I was able to push it back a little, but decided not to try to use heat to fix it given the high chance of making it worse. Instead I filled it with milliput and sanded it flat. I'm fairly certain it won't be noticeable once it's primed and painted: I've also started prepping the helmet for paint:

There hasn’t been much physical progress on the armor itself, but I did hit a milestone I’ve been working toward for the last couple of months: phase 1 of the modeling is officially complete. That means every major component I personally set out to redesign now, well, exists. I've tweaked the chest plate, re-modeled the back insert (as I showed last week), and finally modeled the posterior armor as well as the belts and their ammo boxes. From here, the process formally shifts from modeling... to seeing if all of the parts actually work as intended. The next phase is going back through each piece, test printing everything at full scale, making adjustments for durability and printability where needed, and finalize some additional features to make assembly and strapping a bit easier. So… to keep this update relatively brief, here are a few renders to hold everyone over until the printers inevitably tell me what I did wrong. At this point, I still fully intend to revisit the remaining pieces—arms, shins, hand guards, and the abdomen are all on the list—but they aren’t an immediate priority anymore. Right now, it’s officially “go mode.” My focus is getting everything printed, finished, painted, and assembled so I can finally complete my armor and submit for approval (seeing as I've yet to do that). One other fun development this week: I managed to pick up a resin printer during Prime Day. Naturally, I immediately started reprinting some of the smaller, more detailed components. I have to admit… I get the hype now. (Printed in Elegoo ABS-Like 3.0+) Alright… I've put off sanding for long enough this time. Time to get back to making plastic dust.

Henk joined the Dutch Garrison in 2013 and was an enthusiastic and warm-hearted man. He helped many troopers with building their costumes and was always there for anyone who needed him. Henk was diagnosed with cancer and even though it gave him a lot of discomfort, he stayed positive for his friends and family to the last moments of his life. He leaves behind his wife Diana and their two children, Michael and Laura. Henk will always remain in our thoughts. While our Expect Infantry and Centurion programs get most of the attention, FISD staff wants to relaunch the Armorer Program (Currently called the Master Armorer Program). What is the Armorer Program you ask? Well, it is a program designed to recognize those troopers that go above and beyond to assist themselves and others in getting costumes built, submitted, and approved. One of the goals of all the detachments in the 501st Legion is to help members build and submit costumes that meet and hopefully exceed the minimum requirements of the Legion’s CRLs. Currently the Master Armorer program has the requirement of helping a minimum of 5 members achieve Expert Infantry status. The member must have spent at least 30min physically helping another member with cutting, gluing, sizing, etc, just because they want to help (no money exchanged). There are 3 levels of the award, FISD Armorer, FISD Senior Armorer and FISD Master Armorer. The new program will add a 4th level at the beginning called the Apprentice Armorer. The point scale will be as follows. 5 points - Apprentice Armorer 10 points - Armorer 20 points - Senior Armorer 30 points - Master Armorer If you love building armorer and love helping fellow members get their costumes built, then this is the program you’ve been searching for. We look forward to awarding more members with this award as we know how much we all love Troopers helping Troopers. More information can be found here Want to setup a "Fire Team? the Fire Team program is completely optional, and is intended to help form a common identity and spirit of camaraderie among 501st Legion Stormtroopers in the same geographic area/garrison that troop together. These programs were designed for those who choose to take their armor above and beyond the minimum requirements for basic 501st Legion approval. It gives you the chance to show a level of dedication and pride that takes your armor closer to being as "screen accurate" as possible, without as much extra work as you may realize! For those unaware it is possible to achieve extra awards at Expert Infantry for each additional version costume you have approved, additional awards are not issued with another Expert Infantry number (you are only issued 1 Expert Infantry number) but you will see a star above the award on your profile and the thread title will show [APPROVED] 2nd, [APPROVED] 3rd, [APPROVED] 4th and so on. Changing Tent Using a changing tent for changes in the parking lot or even indoors. I got a couple of weights to go with it. They slide in the little pouches at the bottom of most of these types of changing tents. I used an imperial cog stencil used on black tent. The tents will have little loops on the outside and inside of the tent to let you roll up the front door. I use the loops as a location to put a light. I cut a 1-inch-wide PVC pipe and got caps for it that I can take on and off. This pipe can slide through the loops. Then using velcro, I velcored a push-button battery-operated puck light to it. Because of the weight of the PVC, it doesn't spin with the puck light on it. You can literally tilt the light up, straight or aimed down. The photo below shows the light bar on the outside, but there's loops inside so you can light up the inside of the tent if needed. I like this to have a place to put a light and be able to easily take it on/off. I like this for the underwear changing portion of outside changing. It wraps up nice and I can throw it right back into the truck once the changing portion is done.

Thighs are put together with the lower details and coverstrips. Webbing is for the thigh strapping, trying something different with the webbing crossing over the shoulders instead of the usuall belt-method. Today I started to map out twere to ad the gold cracks on the arms with a pencil. Then it was dremmel-time,,, Next I decided to start with the bigger patches of gold on the chest/back and arms, masked and ready for paint, And painted, And that`s it...next will be to ad the gold in the cracking and then...woop woop it`s time to ad the red wrapping and weathering
