Greetings all, I've been interested in the 501st for quite a while now, and it's time to take the plunge. I hail from the Twin Cities area of Minnesota, and especially in winter, it feels natural to choose a classic stormtrooper as my first costume. (I won't rule out other costumes later, but for now I have to start somewhere). Facebook's 501st Legion page tells story after story of "bad guys doing good" bringing joy to people everywhere. The Legion inspired me personally by adding an extra touch of class to my wedding reception (the one part I was in charge of). Now it's time for me to put on the armor and join the ranks. I look forward to trooping with everyone, especially once this pandemic thing eases up! Cheers, Erik2 points

All right I trimmed the TD clips at both ends. Re positioned on the TD so the washer is rotated more to the rear. Also added the soft side of velcro to the back of the clips to prevent scratching the armor.2 points

[Edit: I intended to add this to my build thread, not here, apologies] I created an IG post about my helmet electronics, and made a panoramic, labelled pic of the inside, which I will share here. Most troopers add small fans for the heat and fogging. Many have an external sound system with some modulation effects (usually behind their chest plate with a headset mic). For mine, I wanted it all contained. I added a voice system, fans, power, and en environmental hearing assist system, and somehow had to fit all of that around my larger-than-usual head. Swipe for a panoramic inside view with labels. Here’s what I have in there: - Ukswrath trooper talk system (mic, amp, iCOMM modulator that adds static after speaking, and the Hovi tips on the front of the helmet are the speakers) - Ukswrath Stormtrooper Hearing Assist (SHA) system (mics are under the “ear” plates, over-ear headphones inside are detached from Velcro and put on my ears as I put on the helmet) - flat power pack with dual USB outlets - USB in line switches - two USB 5v fans - A lot of Velcro (click if it is too small to see)2 points

I can't guarantee for every state, but our local Target just put out a huge supply of long-sleeve activewear. You can get a variety of solid black compression pants/shirts in varying fits and thicknesses, even a shirt with thumbholes! It cost me about 40 bucks for a two-piece.1 point

As far as I am aware there is no official information available in regards to rank/stripes from the movies. "This from our from our forum founder from back in 2006 The idea that they're rank stripes is something that post-dates the movies - at the time they were being filmed they weren't indicative of anything. Heck, even the number of tube stripes is not consistent from trooper to trooper. " "To be honest, I don't think the number has ever been correlated, nor officially established that this is what they are."1 point

New Member Costume Approval Info - Elections 2021 With the Legion election period about to start February 1st, the membership database will be in lock down, during this time new member applications through your local garrison/outpost can not be finalized, you may however still submit them but they won't be processed until the end of this cycle. This does not affect the addition of any new costumes to an active members roster/profile, however it does affect any membership status changes ie: active / reserve / retired and any personal information updates. The period of membership database lockdown for 2021 starts Feb 1st and ends @ Feb 22nd.1 point

Left Thigh bottom Edge Trim Redux. Tomorrow I will try a refit. Tonight I am going to attempt more glue, clamps and magnets on the affected area in front.1 point

thanks! yeah this stuff takes alot of time and patience... too much time and patience... I really don't feel like doing all that fiberglass and bondo. I might just buy a rubies helmet and mod it, but I'll try it first, since I've never done a pepakura/papercraft prop before.1 point

WOW you gotta have some patience putting that together, I think I'll stick to vac formed plastic Really amazing what can be fashioned from foam and paper/card1 point

more of WIP pepakura helmet it was made using Space Cowboy's files I definitely did some parts wrong though1 point

Hi Rodney, Charlie is right. That’s the untrimmed part I mentioned in post #388. This will make it quite hard to get a nice fit around your lower leg as that’s a pretty big return edge. Id also consider something like this. Once you’ve trimmed this down a little, you can try test fitting again. Hopefully this will be more comfortable and allow you to get a good size. :-)1 point

In my opinion, it’s not the overlap that’s making it difficult to test fit - it’s the huge return edge you’ve still got at the bottom. You could do with trimming that way back: I’m no expert though so maybe check before you take it that far back but I can’t imagine having all that excess makes bending the plastic around your leg very easy. On top of the bumps/raised sections/knobs "At the end of the day, the armor is yours, and you can do as you wish with it, but for the sake of the CRL, if you intend to build to Centurion level, then just paint the single bump on each ear. After you are approved, it's up to you." Unofficial rank chart1 point

Began assembling the armor today. I reinforced every point except for the bottom of the kidney. Have to come up with 3 more plastics and fit them. I was a little surprised how much the chest plate can come above the codpiece. I may be with 1" pieces there instead of 2". But we'll see when I can actually climb into it. For now I at least have to get some straps on the chest plate and back to even try to get it together, but not much point until I get some weight off. I feel that, the more I assemble, the more firm and tight the unit will become. Right now parts are just kinda flopping around. But I wish I could have done a trial fit tonight. Can't really do that without the straps on the chest and back. Striving for a nice snug fit. If the elastics don't feel right, I'll go tighter, but right now it's all about cutting. May need to make the chest straps shorter? This is a 2".1 point
