Wanted to publicly thank @justjoseph63 for the massive amount of help he gave me yesterday. I am light years ahead of where I was and learned a ton of good info, and it's all thanks to him.4 points

Here's the gauntlets, gloves, and blaster at 2k wet sanded. Here's the new garage config for the gloss uni-coat sessions and chrome. I found a lattice thing that should work well for the run off into the bin. Cracked open the Angel Gilding box and read through the detailed instructions for mixing and application. I'm going to need another hardware store run for a few things before the next session. If you are at all interested in watching the box opening and some commentary, here's a link to my Facebook Live recording: https://www.facebook.com/chucketh/videos/10219012606327343/3 points

An update on progress. Yesterday my 3" elastic and velcro arrived, so I was able to get the belts for myself and my son sewn together. Here's the final on my belt. I finished the strapping on my arms prior to that. I also used ABS paste and filled in the thigh gaps. And with that....I feel like I'm pretty much done with the first set of armor, with the exception of a couple of minor things. Here, I had my wife helping me and hadn't realized that the shin pieces were not completely closed in the back. They will close to no gap at the top. Also, the TD brackets I received from Dave will not allow the TD to go any further down, I actually broke a bracket trying to adjust it to work, so I'll either have to find a way to make my own or dish out more $$ for new ones.3 points

I don't think this guy got the memo Bit late to this conversation but we should note that the Hero version should stay at @ 2cm But then if we start looking into the lengths of the holster straps the majority are longer than 2.5cm 1" so should that measurement be also changed? Only one trooper below has @ 2.5cm3 points

Thanks, these are the decals. I do plan to hand paint them eventually, but need a little practice steadying my hand. The calves are a dressing issue as it was my wife’s first time dressing me and I missed that particular in my instructions.2 points

I'll do that this evening. The bend in the clip is pinched instead of rounded to allow for the two layers of the belt. I've compared the clips to the ones that Ukswrath makes and there is a noticable difference there. I purchased a bench clamp and I am going to try to do a little work on them, first trying it out on the remaining clip from the first set.2 points

If you haven't already, go for a troop in the neighborhood for 30+ min. Go up some steps, slight hill, down the same. Put the snaps to the test and check for armor bites (might need to remove some return). This would help as you are going to make the second set of armor. Easier to find out now and incorporate into the build. That being said, you will still have some adjustments when we can get back to 3+ hours of a troop. Great job by the way!2 points

I would also add that I feel bad for not posting more detailed progress photos on the first build, but I was under a time crunch.... I'll be adding more content to this thread as I begin my son's TK and hopefully will add more details in the process.2 points

Hello FISD! The name's Tyler. I've recently come across the 501st through the internet, and I remembered seeing something like that before and dreaming of doing it too, I love the idea of helping others, just by loving a franchise. It's awesome! Joining the 501st is a little dream of mine, and I was searching around on the website and came to here, I quickly realized that these forums were the first step into becoming a fully fledged 501st member and Stormtrooper, I get giddy thinking about it, heh. Anyways, just saying "Hello there" to you all, and may the force be with you. (Hopefully in the future) TK-401511 point

Greetings everyone. As an FYI, the current Rogue One TK CRLs are being discussed for revisions. If you have an approved FISD costume you can read and comment on the proposed revisions here: https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/49812-rogue-one-tk-crl-update-2020/?tab=comments#comment-697602 If you do not have access to the “Detachment Only” thread, then I will see if we can post the proposed changes here, but I am not sure if it will be permitted. The proposed changes are mostly wording and a few better (more detailed) descriptions of the parts and how they should look.1 point

I actually fitted snaps and strapping before painting, this was for two reasons, one to make sure I didn't scratch paint afterwards fitting the strapping and the other so I could hang the armor up for painting, I have a set of snaps with elastic and wire added to them for painting purposes1 point

Well luckily a few years back, Paul (Daetrin), Joseph (justjoseph), Tony (Ukswrath), Christoph/Danny (Ripper_L), Steve (Starsaber25), Jeff, (Wingnut) Arron (Pyrats) Tim (Dark CMF) myself (Sly11) and a few more, did all get to hang out. I can attest these are all wonderful and interesting people. Celebration for many is the ultimate way to get together and meet the people you talk to though the forums.. Lets hope the world gets back to normal and one day we can all meet up again1 point

Sprayed satin white inside the belt halves! Figured out that I could use my helmet stand to hold the bells and biceps for priming! A bell fell off once, but since I'll sand the primer off anyways, no biggie. I'll have to be more careful when I'm spraying gloss white... Finished early and decided to put snaps on the suspenders... No issues! I was able to trim the leather with a razor and punch holes with the tool the snaps came with. Tomorrow I'll sand some spots in the interior of the barrel (an awesome tip from @gmrhodes13) and E6000 some snaps in! I'll also size some elastic straps to hold the back closed. Maybe I'll even wet sand the bells and biceps to 400!1 point

Thanks Glen, just a few minor things to work on for EIB/Centurion I believe. I've submitted my application on the 501st website and emailed the Florida Garrison GML with my photos. I have my fingers crossed for basic approval soon.1 point

Thank you for the photo. don't worry, it's ok. What we need you to fix to your helmet frown is to refine the paint that leaves the teeth area. May be a toothpick and some paint remover, (NON ACETONE) can do the job. Cheers.1 point

Hiya, To my knowledge, no. I don’t believe this is specific in the CRL. This was just a suggestion for accuracy rather than CRL, or higher levels, related. [emoji1303][emoji16]1 point

I understand what Lou is saying. I'm merely explaining why it is riding high on the belt. It's an issue with the TD clips I purchased that will not allow the belt to fit into the top of the clips where the bend is. I just have to figure out how to reshape them without breaking them, as I've already broken one trying to do so, or fork out another $40 to get some that are made correctly. I can't seem to locally source the 1/16" thick aluminum flat metal. Since I can't take a photo until later, I scratched out this diagram to better explain what the issue is.1 point

This one? Please don't say that this strip is to short, as I don't have replacement material here :/ I'll try to fix the other things you guys mentioned on the weekend. Should be relatively easy to do.1 point

Well, I'm just now seeing this thread after finishing my belt two days ago using the Billhag diagram. I will be re-doing the belt, my most pertinent question is whether the change needs to be made prior to submitting for EIB or can I do it prior to Centurion?1 point

Hi Andrew, Yeah, no need for measurements in the CRL for this; my point was more that this sort of “reference”, when viewed more recently with much more hi res reference material to go from, is actually quite misleading. Many new troopers will look at these sorts of guides and follow them to the letter. When one becomes out of date, like this one, new builders are actually continuing their builds with incorrect information. As such, we fail to progress as a legion in terms of quality of costumes. So, this was really more to alert new builders to what I believe is a more accurate measurement. I certainly don’t think actual measurements should be added to the CRL for this. As with most things ANH, it should be about “looking” right and proportional, not about exact measurements. [emoji1303] Oh, btw, I’ll give that other question some thought. No idea why you thought of me with that one.......lol [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji1303][emoji1303][emoji1303]1 point

A suggestion you can consider for more accuracy is to trim a bit more the small ab button . This is a suggestion we usually make when reviewing EIB applications. Overall you have made an outstanding work mate. hope to see your EIB application soon !! Good luck with your approval.1 point

So I got some E6000 this morning and went to work this afternoon when I got home. It's "better" but not great. I still used small screws and drilled them in from behind to hold the resin in place to the ABS pieces. I started by heating up the resin pieces and molding them to the ABS pieces an used clamps to secure while they cooled down. They aren't perfect but they will work fine for basic approval. I have them taped up and baking in the sun so they warm up and form better. I'll do this the next few days so they form and stay that way. I also tore the center section off the ab section and modified it. I also used screws from behind to secure it. I also test fitted the entire ab section to my body and it held good. I'll add suspenders later. Notice the black on the sides? That is the velcro that opens up. I might end up adding 2" on the front side of the ab section so it is further back like in the movie. It'd also give me a little more room. I also rough cut the belt and boxes out. The next step here is to heat the belt up and form it. My shop is above and behind an automotive garage and there are 55 gallon drums outside. I'll heat up the belt pieces and form them over the drums. I won't cut out any of the belt notches until it is formed and contours with the ab section. I am seeing the finish line here now. The resin to ABS was holding my brain up but now I got it.1 point

It's been a few days since my last update, but the work continues. I end up staying up late at night working on my armor after the Mrs. turns in and am too exhausted to post anything when I am done for the night. Here's what I've been up to... Regarding the thighs, I cut very little from the top per Mario's suggestion and used a heat sealing iron to round out the top for a small return edge. Once this was done, I also trimmed a bit more of the return edge so as just to have the slight finish curve at top. Heat sealing iron I purchased through Walmart.com for less than $30. This baby works wonders. Thighs cut with mark for return. Result of using the sealing iron on the edge. Then, it was a happy Monday as these items arrived! Ok, back to the build... Here's a shot after torso strapping was added. Thigh strapping had not yet been done. Here are some shots of the strapping. I used the hinge method on the left side and the slot connection on the right side of the kidney/ab connection to keep things in line. I've seen this on a few builds, but I followed AJ's 2.0 build thread for implementation. Added snaps and cod rivet. Finished thigh strips and added ammo belt Added sniper knee Here I have my thighs strapped and am working on getting the strapping started for the arms and shoulder bells. I had to trim about 1/2" off the bell and created a very slight curve, but I can stand to take a little bit off the top again and make a bit more defined curve. The forearms right a little high on my wrists, but I almost prefer this rather than having a larger gap between the bicep and forearm. Any suggestions on that are appreciated. Also, I get pinched a bit between the cod and the thigh if I don't walk carefully. Can the edges of the cod piece be trimmed back slightly to alleviate this?1 point

FISD Net-Etiquette DOs and DON'Ts (supplemental Rules) We want you to start posting your brains out, but first, a lesson in this forum’s netiquette: the Do’s and Don’ts below pretty much boil down to “Be nice.†So, please be nice to each other! If you violate the Don'ts, your post may be removed and you may be suspended or even banned. Do: -Start posting. Ask questions, let people know what you’re thinking about, be funny, be serious, You don’t have to write a novel, just break your thoughts down into easily understood bullets or paragraphs, don’t go crazy with the color coding, try to avoid one-word responses, and don’t yell at us by using all-caps. -Spell check. We don’t expect you to be perfect, but make sure people can understand you: run a spell check and make sure your grammar makes sense before you post. remember, people from all parts of the world visit the FISD so making your post easy to understand is a courtesy. (excessive use of "slang" can be very hard to understand for a lot of people) -Use descriptive & interesting titles. Titles like “I need help!†don’t describe what you’re talking about. Making sure people know what you’re talking about just from reading the title will help get eyeballs on your post, using all-caps or l33t speak won’t. -Report rule infractions. If you think a post violates the Don’ts below, help us by reporting it. The mods notice who’s taking care of the community and those people are appreciated greatly. If you see something in a thread that needs to be addressed, please notify a moderator by using the report button. -Check the forums for the topic you want to talk about before you post. Someone may have already answered your question or started the conversation. -Post about topics that don’t have a forum. Can’t find the right forum? Head to the NCO Club area if you’re posting about non-stormtrooper-related stuff, or the Star Wars genre if appropriate. -Get creative with your signature. There are some guidelines and rules below. Also huge signatures clutter up threads, try to keep the size to a minimum. Promoting your own business We understand that many members run their own businesses or home-based sales operations and we don't want to stop you mentioning this. Please keep your talk of business, however, within the context of editorial conversation. If someone has a discussion with you about what you do, fine. Don't, however, respond opportunistically to threads just to promote your services. Anyone trying to fool the system by starting fake conversations will have their posts removed without comment. Post Requesting "DONATIONS" From time to time our members ask to post information about a fund raiser or other support event for charity. This is a great thing, but If you are participating in or wish to promote a charitable event, please contact the FISD staff via PM for permission first. We only allow posts that are in support of registered non-profit organizations and donations must be made directly to the organization in question via the internet. No requests for cash, money orders, checks or paypal to an individual, or personal address will be permitted. All such requests must be approved by the FISD staff PRIOR to being posted. Don't: -Troll, flame, or be offensive. We’ll remove posts we think are ethically, racially, religiously, or sexually offensive, insulting, demeaning, harassing, threatening or just non-constructively negative. We reserve the right to immediately delete any posting or ban any user at our sole discretion. -Swear or post inappropriate, suggestive or graphic images or videos. Keep it clean. We have a language filter that *bleeps* swear words, but we can’t catch everything. Please don’t try to get around the filter. And just because the offending word is gone doesn’t mean the sentence is appropriate. We’ll also remove graphic content featuring inappropriate material or language, as well as pornography or anything else the mods think doesn’t belong. -Violate anyone’s privacy or post your own identifying info. We take down public phone numbers, addresses and other personally identifying info. Also, PM's (Personal Messages) are just that "personal and private". Posting any PM in the public forums without the permission of all participants is strictly prohibited, and can result in loss of posting privileges. -Talk about any kind of illegal activities. This is dealt with a strict zero-tolerance policy. -Spam. No advertising, solicitations or promotional material (that includes petitions, arranging boycotts, asking others to vote on a poll, and advertising your personal website or other forum not directly related to stormtroopers or the 501st). No making off-topic or redundant threads, no posting multiple times in a row with nothing new, and no: * Bumping: making a new post solely to bring it to the top of the thread listing and push down legitimate discussions. * Quote for Truth (QFT): This applies when you quote someone you agree with, but only contribute a one or two word comment yourself. Try to add something relevant. * Poll Threads: Polls can be a good way to jumpstart a discussion, but poll threads that don’t encourage any kind of discussion may be edited, locked or deleted. -Use ASCII characters or capitals. Online, all caps is considered shouting. Doing so will annoy others in the community. Using ASCII characters in either your login name or your posts is considered childish by many. It also makes the admins’ faces hurt. BB-Code and Signature Help. You can use limited BB-Code to display graphics and text in your signature. As always, keep it clean – offensive or inappropriate language or imagery is not allowed. Check out the Don’ts above for what we consider offensive. also keep the size to a minimum, large signatures make threads difficult to read. Sale threads in the proper section. if wanting to sell or promote a product or service please post it in the proper area (Imperial Commissary / PX) also note that posts containing indirect or direct selling/promotion of armor by non-vetted (approved) armor makers will be promptly deleted or moved without warning. repeated violations may result in loss of all selling/buying privileges. Word Association games, Just say no. Please refrain from starting and/or participating in Word Association and/or similar threads. While they can be fun, they do not really contribute (directly or indirectly) to the mission of the FISD.Any such threads will be promptly deleted by the staff. Commercial Posts or Advertising. Commercial posts and advertising of goods or services are not allowed on the discussion forums, and will be removed. please keep all sales/interest checks in the Imperial commissary forums. Selling/Promoting of armor. All new armor makers must have the expressed permission from the FISD staff to sell/promote new types of armor/helmets. Additions and changes to these rules may occur at any time. It is your responsibility to keep up to date on them. Mason Carson TK-4603 "dashrazor" Detachment Leader1 point

PROGRAM OVERVIEW Expert Infantryman status is not required for members of this detachment. It should be viewed as an optional set of requirements for those who wish to take the accuracy of their costumes to the next level, and be recognized accordingly. We're a costuming club - think of it as an award for costuming excellence and you get the picture. The requirements will not replace or supersede 501st standards, but only serve as an inspiration for the level of accuracy that can be achieved. The standards are meant to be high but achievable, and any changes to the standards will need to be approved by a majority vote of this detachment. REQUIREMENTS OVERVIEW Because the stormtroopers vary in details between each movie, Stormtrooper Detachment EIB (Expert Infantryman Badge) Requirements are broken down to include base Requirements that every stormtrooper must attain, plus movie-specific Requirements. This allows for a higher level of accuracy than can be achieved through a single standard. Troopers achieving this distinction will be listed on the Expert Infantrymen page. RELATION TO THE 501st Legion Costume Reference Library (CRL) Standards Ideally the 501st CRL would capture the EIB requirements in the "SHOULD HAVE" sections of the relevant CRL entry. However until the CRL's are 100% confirmed, we'll continue to break them out in their own area. BASE REQUIREMENTS (ALL) Base Requirements are applicable to anyone wanting to achieve EIB status in the FISD. They cover the basic costume and in essence cover what is required for Legion Requirements. NOTE: On 21-Mar-08 FISD has ratified that FX helmets are no longer acceptable for Expert Infantryman qualification. ANH REQUIREMENTS (CANON) In addition to complying with all base Requirements, stormtroopers wishing to attain ANH Expert Infantryman status must also complete the ANH Requirements. Unlike ESB and ROTJ, there are two different helmet options: the Hero and Stunt. Troopers must choose one or the other. Lastly, troopers may choose among several different options, such as replacing the thermal detonator with a combination of grappling hook and comlink. ESB REQUIREMENTS (CANON) In addition to complying with all base Requirements, stormtroopers wishing to attain ESB Expert Infantryman status must also complete the ESB Requirements. ESB Requirements are very similar to ANH but with some small differences, notably in the handplates, helmet, and holster / blaster. ROTJ REQUIREMENTS (CANON) In addition to complying with all base Requirements, stormtroopers wishing to attain ROTJ Expert Infantryman status must also complete ROTJ Requirements. ROTJ Requirements are quite a bit different from ANH and ESB as they entail numerous changes to the armor as well as helmet. HEAVY WEAPONS TROOPER (HWT) REQUIREMENTS (EU) Heavy Weapon Trooper (HWT) Requirements In addition to complying with all ANH Requirements, stormtroopers wishing to attain HWT Expert Infantryman status must also complete Heavy Weapons Trooper Requirements. Essentially a HWT is an ANH trooper with accessories: pack, pauldron, ammo pouches and of course a large weapon (BFG). They can be clean or have minor weathering. STORMTROOPER COMMANDER (TKC) REQUIREMENTS (EU) In addition to complying with all ANH Requirements, stormtroopers wishing to attain TFU (The Force Unleashed) Stormtrooper Commander Expert Infantryman status must also complete TFU Stormtrooper Commander Requirements. Essentially a TFU Stormtrooper Commander comes in two variations: 1. An ROTJ trooper but with the following ANH details: split butt plate, trapezoid hand plates, left side mounted holster, ANH Stunt helmet. 2. An ANH Stunt trooper with paint and scuffs. This is based on the action figures. Both of these must be painted in accordance with established visual references.1 point
