  4. Okay Troopers, time for a super-quick contest! All you have to do for this one is identify the person in the photo below. (Hint: He has a connection to Star Wars). The first person to post up with the correct name wins a cool official 3" x 17 " (7.5 cm x 43 cm) 501st Legion decal which you can put on your bin or car. Open to all Troopers world-wide except Command / Extended Staff (Attaches).

  5. Now that the contest is over (in record time, I might add) here is some trivia about Mr. Muir. For those of you who may not know, he** designed and sculpted the molds for the original armor for Stormtroopers (based on the Ralph McQuarrie design) that we all wear. Although Liz Moore designed the helmet, he was the one who created the rest of the costume! More info on this talented guy can be found here. ** Despite what you may have read from a certain armorer.

  8. Finished painting the shield parts, cut the tinted Lexan, and mounted everything up. I think it turned out nice considering what I had to work with. Just gotta figure out what to do on the back side for the strap and handle. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  9. Another option is a popper/snap on the back (inside the calves, of course). Personally, I attached velcro to the front tab of my boot, then a popper on the rear tab. To allow a little wiggle room, I used some spare elastic to Attach the popper to - this allow flex when moving around. Here’s what I did to start; Velcro front, poppers rear Then, I realised that if I moved my angles too much, like going up stairs, the rear popper could in-pop. So, I added a tab of elastic to give it some flex; They now stay perfectly aligned and have not un-popped since :-)

  10. Got a few small things done today. Ended up priming and painting my shield parts. And tinkered around with my pauldron and ammo pouch. I’ll share more once everything is dry tomorrow. Essentially I wanted to be able to put the pauldron and ammo pouch on and take it off without much effort. The biggest problem was trying to find a way to make them stay on without moving. Easy fix. Just use magnets. I ended up gluing the three magnets in place on the pauldron itself and then three more under the chest plate. I put some black loop Velcro on the magnets to keep things soft. The ammo pouch was a little trickier. I cut one piece of ABS that slid under the two existing pouch straps. Then I cut three small pieces glued together to use as a riser. I cut two long strips and ran those under the chest plate. To hold the pouch, risers, and mount together I drilled four holes all the way into the pouch and fed four Chicago fittings through from the inside and screwed them from the outside. After these pictures I spread the ammo pouch mount magnets out a bit more and then created some more ABS plates to house the magnets. It’s darn strong and holds the ammo pouch in the perfect position without moving. I’ll have to see how well it’ll play with my yoke once I get it. I will have to slide this mount in between the yoke and chest but it’s not very thick and is very well hidden by the pouch itself. The MP40 leather pouch is pretty darn big and I played around with the placement a lot. I actually moved it up slightly from where it is in the photo below. But it’s still a huge pouch and is a lot bigger than what the toys use in terms of proportion. I’m on the fence if I like it or not. I will suit up tomorrow and see how it all looks together. 11. I have had both the Jim kit and the 850 AW kit. some of the things I have noticed between the two are: Jim's Kit- Fairly accurate in size of parts and overall look. You will need to trim it most likely It must be painted, so sanding and priming The fiberglass will eventually crack at stress points. This can be fixed and a lot of the stress can be relived depending on how you assemble it. Jims helmet is a cast of a modded BS helmet. 850 AW kit- No helmet Overall look is good but most parts (boxes on belt, OII on back and abdomen details are undersized. Most detail parts are cast and will need sanding and clean-up. Because all the cover strips and detail parts are cast, you will need to paint whole kit You will need to trim it most likely There are a few helmet options: Order one from Jim Mod a BS (lots of work) Order one from Headshot Props Buy the 3D files from Nico Henderson on FB (probably the most accurate). Hope this helps.

  12. Hello Troopers. TK 10683 from Nashville, TN here just wanting to say Hey and I hope you guys are staying safe and doing good. I'm about to go crazy not knowing when I will be able to troop again. Looking forward to keeping up with you guys in here and seeing what's going on in your world!

  13. I came up with a basic drawing, it uses two same size pieces of rectangle plastic, cut two sections out that are the same width/height of the straps, the other piece has slots that the strap bends go through, (this piece you have to put on the straps first before gluing to the back piece). Glue together then apply to the back of the shield. Hope that helps, sorry it's a pretty basic drawing

  14. Looks like you have the same shield as Tony.. I’m really trying to figure out how to replicate that forearm mount. Makes it look so much better than what I’ve been considering trying to make with just ABS and foam. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  15. Completely forgot I was going to post some images of my shield straps, sorry, here you go. I used some strips of ABS and heated and bent to conform to the forearm, made it a little bigger so I could add some foam so it protects the paint. The other strap is big enough to either hold or have the hand go through so you the shield just locks on the arm, find it saves your fingers sometimes if you are holding for a while

  16. I put the first ear on. Im happy with the way it looks! No really big gaps, alignment looks good. What do you guys think?

  17. You are definitely on the right track, but the top of the round part should be lowered a bit to where it aligns with the ridge. You may need to take a hair off the areas as seen in the second photo to lower them and move them forward a tad. As I mentioned, don't worry too much about the gaps. Looks GREAT! NICE job!

  24. Granted I do have some adjustments to be made, but my knee plates, shins, and spats aren’t complete. Just trying on the chest piece with the pauldron and ammo pouch before moving forward. The pouch is starting to grow on me. I think it looks pretty good. The downside is that I cannot turn my head to the left. My chin hits it. Not a terrible issue as I can’t see much out of the bucket anyway. I think I definitely want to do the pauldron modification Darren was suggesting. The Trooperbay version I have is just a tad too small. I will be painting this one first just to see how it looks. Thoughts? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  26. It's just the plan we have so far, there are many options. Using a snap could also work. I am having the issue that the shin does rotate on my legs, but I am a skinny guy. We haven't put the padding inside the shins quite yet, as we are waiting for our belts. Armour making has slowed down a bit as we are trying to get stuff organised due to the virus. Pretty keen to get stuck back into it, as it's not long now until we finish my armour and go onto our 2nd armour. Mainly we got the idea here from RS Propmasters, at 3:30 mark:

  27. Hey Joseph, just got back from the armour maker, he said it was fine to use the handplates as moulds. Shouldn't be an issue! Glad you asked! might as well do a round up on things that need doing! Neckseal- The neckseal I made had ribs made from grey doortrim painted black, the paint is cracking horribly, just need to redo them with black doortrim. Helmet- Need to attach s-trim, add paint to the vocoder, put in the strapping and the frown inside mesh. Shoulder bells- Need to add elastic inner strap. Ab Plate- Need to add the button plates as well as attachments for the belt to go on. Thermal detonator- Needs to be repainted (wrong colour), and assembled. Belt- Still haven't recived my soft belt back yet, so belt needs to be started. Thighs- Need to add inside padding. Calves- Need to add inside padding as well as elastic straps that go under my feet. Handplates- Need to create the laytex handplates for cert 3. (using the hard pandplates as moulds as mentioned above) Boots- Might need to get new ones. I painted them white but the paint is cracking, also the left boots keeps making a squeaking sound every thime I walk. Buttplate- Need to add a new silver snap at the groin next to the other one. Everything else is finished and ready to go. Once I have it all mostly fitted though I can do some fine adjustments to make it fit together perferctly!

  31. Learned something new today. My grandmother was a seamstress and for some reason I never learned. That changed today when I needed to sew up my gaskets a little tighter. My girlfriend has a machine and showed me how to do everything. Here’s my latest test fit. Starting to look good I think. If anyone has any feedback, please let me know. Sounds like it’ll be a couple weeks or so before I get my yolk/back pieces. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  36. no. make sure the codpiece is so high and tight it either raises your voice an octave, or you feel an urge to walk on tip toes to prevent friction. if thats not possible and leaves the black gap then you will need to resize something, and you wont be able to walk like that....

  38. Looking great so far, Thomas! Nice to see you are using interior cover strips, which will add strength to the joins. These are especially important for the shin (calf) pieces, which get a lot of use from opening and closing them while suiting up. Keep the photos coming, and if I could make a recommendation it would be that when in doubt, ask before cutting or gluing.

  40. Thanks for the great compliments everyone! I'm glad to know I made the right decision with my purchases. Next up is the blaster which I got off eBay. It is a rubber like material with metal accent pieces. There are decals where the LEDs would be. This was an upgrade from a 3d printed blaster which just didn't have enough weight to it and the print lines were visible. Really liking this one! Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
