I've been thinking... I've come a long way in my build in the last few months. And now that I'm sitting here waiting for approval, I started to realize something that has been told to me more than once on this journey. "You're never done." "You will always find something to work on." So in the spirit of never being done I'm posting some pictures of the Comlink that I 3D printed last night. I also got a really cool set of binders from Disney's Galaxy's Edge. I will keep posting pictures and asking questions on this build feed for as long as I am building. Chris Feehan (TK-6744) was selected from the ECG, along with Taylor Arthur Goodson (TK-12110) and Terry "Bro" Browning (TK-8869) of the North-East Remnant Garrison. 5 First Order Stormtroopers were requested, and we were able to scramble 3 with only 1 day notice between the 2 Garrisons. The call time was 6:00am with the first taping scheduled for 8:00am, so we were all picked up around 4:30am. A secure changing room was provided with some snacks and water, and they treated us very well. The segments involved us marching out on stage when they announced the Galaxy's Edge segment, and during the Weather report taking selfies with audience members. We had fun participating, and taking photos with guests backstage in between segments. Special thanks to Greg Lee from the ECG for guiding us around, helping us get dressed, and taking some great backstage photos. We attended 4 days of DragonCon in Atlanta, and it was a completely incredible experience. If you've never been there, and you love cosplay, this is your home. I can't adequately explain the feeling of being among over 80,000 fellow nerds who all have appreciation for costuming. We bring both of our kids to the event, and they absolutely love it. People constantly stop them to take photos, and it makes them feel like rock stars. So. Much. Fun. I was fortunate enough to be approached by one of the Directors of DragonCon while I participated in an early-morning local CBS television shoot on Friday. He was looking for a cosplay family that would be willing to be interviewed- early Sunday morning in costume- for CNN's Headline News Weekend Express. After some discussion with my hubby, we decided to say yes. During the time that the Director transported us to the CNN studios at 7am Sunday morning, we found out that the segment would be live. Ah, no pressure at all, right? The segment was supposed to be about how families can cosplay together at DragonCon. It started off that way, but then it turned into me promoting the 501st Legion. The Fire Team program is completely optional, and is intended to help form a common identity and spirit of camaraderie among 501st Legion stormtroopers in the same geographic area/garrison that troop together. Fire Teams are not officially recognized by the 501st Legion nor the FISD, although they will be able to access a Fire Team sub-forum on the detachment website. Because Fire Teams are unofficial groups, they cannot have any 501st or FISD markings, including 501st Legion, 501st, Legion logos, Vader's Fist etc. on their branding or logos. However, Teams will be allowed to use any unique markings at informal events provided they follow these guidelines. Guidelines No 501st or FISD markings. Period. Any active Legion member with a valid stormtrooper costume in the specified geographic area can join. The Team can create a name, logo, backstory, etc. for itself (names usually contain Fire Team, though this isn't required). A list of each Team (with their specific "Teams Name") with a current list their members will be kept in the Fire Team sub-forum on the Detachment website. A Team member must troop at least twice per year to maintain status as a member. Two or more Team members must troop together once per year to keep the group active. Merchandising Again, no 501st or FISD markings. Merchandising will only be limited by the imagination of the Fire Team. Any merchandising should be submitted to the detachment, or through proper Legion channels. A master list of all Fire Team merchandise (with photos) will be posted in the Fire Team sub-forum. If any of these guidelines are violated, the group will be disbanded. These programs were designed for those who choose to take their armor above and beyond the minimum requirements for basic 501st Legion approval. It gives you the chance to show a level of dedication and pride that takes your armor closer to being as "screen accurate" as possible, without as much extra work as you may realize! It also works on giving a better look to the Legion as an entity, and you can bet others will take notice of your hard work. The 501st has a list of detailed requirements for Basic approval, (level 1), EIB, (level 2) and Centurion, (level 3) which can be found here in the Costume Reference Library, (CRL) http://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:FISD_CRL Here are a few of the questions people may be wondering about: 1. "I am a (tall/short/heavy/thin) Trooper. Can I still apply? Of course! These programs are open and encouraged for all sizes of TKs, as long as the costume is correct and meets the guidelines. There are many specific build tutorials to every option, as well as a vast network of fellow TKs on the FISD to help you out and offer suggestions. 2. "How much extra will I have to pay for extra items"? The cost is actually quite reasonable, considering the few extra supplies you will need, which are listed in the requirements area. While it may run you a little more to implement these additions to your costume, they will go a long way to improving accuracy. All needed items can be found for sale on this thread: https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/16-ongoing-sales-project-orders/ While blasters are not required for basic approval, for EIB and Centurion levels they are, and may need upgrades (also listed in the CRL). 3. "I haven't even got my kit yet, is it too early to start planning"? Actually, aiming for Centurion is easiest to do right out of the box. 4. "I have my basic TK approval, can I still get in these programs"? In a word... absolutely! 5. "Are there any "perks" to this extra work and cost"? Besides knowing that you have a great looking set of armor, the 501st and FISD believes you should be deservedly recognized for your achievement(s), and allows you to wear the appropriate embroidered "rocker" badge of rank (available for a very minimum cost) on your shirt, helmet bag, etc., as well as rank decals to put on your armor bin. You will also have access to select "challenge coin" runs, receive (free) a cool certificate for your new rank, and have your title posted below your name in your FISD signature. Plus, once you reach these levels, you will have the extra knowledge to help out those who are looking to apply as well. 6. "Is it hard to apply, and what happens then"? After basic approval, all you do is make sure your armor is up to the standards set forth in the CRL, post a thread with the required photos in the appropriate area (see below), and wait a bit for the D.O.s (Deployment Officers) to address it. (Hint: Studying other people's threads before you submit can be a GREAT help). These are also listed on the main page of the FISD site. While waiting for approval, you will get some comments from others who will offer suggestions and constructive advice to help you out. If you should need any changes, the DOs will let you know, so you can adjust accordingly. Don't be dismayed if you do need changes... it's all for your benefit! After you are approved for EIB, then you can submit for Centurion. Looking great! I would make your top return edge before you start sanding the ABS paste. Less stress on the clean, finished surface. And yes, there needs to be *some* overlap between the ab and chest pieces. You don't want to be able to see undersuit. When there's minimal overlap, which is common for tall buys like us (I'm 6'3" as well), you'll want a very good connection between the two so your ab doesn't pop out as you move around. Once you're all armored up, it's hard to put back underneath, and also hard to notice this has occurred if you don't have friends watching out for you!

First of all: Thank you for your Feedback. We focused on certain points and missed other ones. The mandatory pictures: Sniper Plate Thigh ammo rivets inside and outside TD Front Panel D-Ring Shoulder Straps Ab-Buttons and Hand-Plates (Hope this counts as one...) Belt Boots Now on to the stuff @gmrhodes13 already mentioned: Helmet I pushed the rubber a little upwards (veeeeeeery gently) and it's like this now. Maybe it was the perspective with the other pictures. Will also do the trimming of the rubber as you recommended. E-11 I don't know what it is with this blaster. As long as I have it right in front of me it looks perfectly straight. As soon as I took the pictures it mostly looks like I'm carrying around a banana. Right side I'm working on finding the sweetspot between too loose and too thight. I guess with "hanging butt" your talking about the buttplate sticking out like a duck's butt? I'll try tighter strapping but I was afraid ripping out the bracktes sooner than later. Calves Aligend nicely. The left one is closed in the middle. Don't know why the whole is showing. I'm maxing out the RS ones pretty much. Shoulder bells They are indeed my archenemy! They can look like this or like this I guess that's based on daily motivation and placement of the biceps. Back looks like this Thighs Hope the height of the thighs is better in the second picture. They don't get any higher. I'm stuck with my real thighs in the middle of the plastic ones. Already tried a lot of adjustement while building. As a result I always had a lot of room at the ends and was stuck in the middle. Guess it's too much running to keep my midsection slim enough to fit into the torso. Belt Belt is a bit of a disappointment. Looked fine when I got it, but as soon as I stored it while building the velcro started pulling strings from the front layer. Have to say I'm a little disappointed from the quality RS delivered. I already tried to fix the ends with glue and clear coat to prevent any further ripping. As you can see in the pictures it was only a small success. I hope I covered everything so far.

Most of the time rivets pop because the ammo belt and canvas belt have been connected laid out flat, causing the plastic ammo belt to bend more than the canvas, creating tnesion on the rivets and ultimately pop. There are two ways to correctly install the ammo belt without creating tension on the rivets and with both ways you have to start with the middle rivet. 1. Snap your canvas belt to the abdomen and place the ammo belt on, bending it to form around your abdomen plate and marking the holes. When laid flat, the marks will be short of the holes by a few mm's or 1/8". Your ammo belt will be bent slightly like a Mcdonalds 'M' with tension on the ammo belt. This is not a problem for flexible ABS like 1.5mm that the original armour was made from. 2. Lay the ammo belt on top of the canvas belt and mark out the holes, then add a few mm's or 1/8" outwards of the marks and rivet. This will make the canvas belt under the ammo belt slightly longer but it takes away the tension once the belt is snapped to your abdomen plate. Both ways work extremely well, whether you rivet the ammo belt short or long of the marks when laid out flat.

Finally got time to do some trimming. The new 2 piece KB forearms are a bit different than most of what I’ve seen before. Obviously got a lot of work to do before glueing but wanted to share. I do t see anything on the crl about return edges so will reduce them significantly. They may end up more boxy than I’d have liked, but we’ll see. I had to redo my ANHTK arms a few times before I was happy with them too.

Hi all, As we’re all sharing helmet pics (WIPs, clearance etc.), I thought I’d share a little photography tip for anyone that wants to give it a go; As many of us use smart phones to quickly snap out progress, holding the camera too close to the subject will cause some distortion, leading the the helmet looking “droopy”. Try taking a couple of steps back and zooming in - this will look much closer to how the human eye sees it. :-)

Nice work trooper a few images the DO's like to see are: * Front and both sides of the knee sniper plate * Thigh ammo strip rivets outside and inside * TD showing front panel * D ring on rear of blaster * Closeup of shoulder straps (front and back) * Closeup of your hand plates * Closeup of belt * Closeup of boots A couple of things which you may want to address before the DO's see your application and these are observations not requirements: Your belt is very frayed, although you can have some fraying it is a lot and you may be asked to change it but you can wait to hear what the DO's say. Also ab is overlapping kidney plate. TD not clipped in properly Butt plate hanging or being pushed downwards perhaps tighter strapping Normally stunt helmets the brow is a little higher and Hero version lower, but again wait to hear what the DO's say Your thighs need to come up, you have a big gap between them and the cod Watch the ab and kidney plate alignment at the tops as they are stepped here Your shoulder bells appear to be sitting under the chest plate, you may want to try bringing the shoulder bells inward at the top to the shoulder straps, this may change the angle of them or you may need to trim them on an angle so they sit better. Also biceps are not quite level. There is a section on the top lip of the kidney plate pulling or sticking up, also your right calf does not appear to be central or closed properly. Again you can see the shoulder bells behind the back plate. You could trim a little of the ends of the brow trim, most references stop just before the ear Blaster appears bent? A few tweaks and you'll look great, good luck with approval

And just to make sure we're all using the same terminology: These are what we (at FISD) commonly refer to as "popper snaps": (the ones you had pictured in your post, above) These are the style of snaps commonly referred to as "Line 24 snaps": ("Line 24" is technically Tandy's brand name / size designation for this style of snap, but it has become fairly ubiquitous and can be found referring to snaps of the same size and variety that were NOT made by Tandy, too. Anovos supplies "Line 24-style snaps" with their kits.) (Photos are not meant to be precise, and are not the right finish, etc., they were just handy on Wikipedia's page and show the two main variations nicely)

Labor Day Weekend Updates: Hope everyone else had a good holiday - feel like I made some major progress this weekend. Highlights (major questions in RED: Cleaned up the rivet covers from the belt! Major stress off my back! Major thanks to @kman for clarifying(/modifying?) the method at my last armor party: Use emery discs on the dremel to cut into the belt from behind to loosen dental cement Pry the rivet covers off Continue using emery discs on the dremel to cut into the remaining rivet material - what I found was rather than actually trying to cut off underneath (which terrified me given the disc sizes I had on hand), trying to cut directly into the rivets heated them enough to warm and loosen the dental cement Pry the warm rivets out with a screwdriver Use a ball bur in the dremel to cut/grind out the excess dental cement I plan on gluing in Chicago screws with E6000 to the rivet covers instead of rivets this time to make the belt more maintainable Still need to Patch the belt itself with spare material Transfer the drop boxes (Do I need to actually rivet them, or just move the loops and E6000 them behind the belt in the right spots so the outer box edges match the ends of the belt?) Add the holster to the belt Add snaps to the belt and ab Speaking of Snaps, Got a box of these online after trying to find the correct poppers: do these look acceptable? They don't look quite like the Anovos ones but I'm not sure if that's a good thing Planning for Ab/belt Ab internal snap (This is the "Han" snap?) Posterior internal + matching codpiece elastic Drilled rivet holes to 1/8" for split rivets from the Centurion Kit Assembled the Thermal Detonator to 192mm Meant to hot water bath the caps and grind down the pipe ends a bit more, but at the last test fit they wouldn't come off, so there we are. (screws from the same Centurion kit still need paint) Trimmed down the right forearm and both thighs to matching circumference (well the thighs might still be ~0.4" different circumference at top and bottom, but gluing isn't done and I saw some change on right thigh from fitment to glue, so I'm moving on for the time being) Forearms and biceps complete pending gluing strapping, thighs in progress Thigh fronts complete - going for round 1 and round 2 of gluing the R and L rears, respectively (more magnets clamps and tape at the ready - will probably try to find a book to weigh it down to compress it to round during gluing as well Ended up using extra cover strip material for a 10mm strip to check/mark the right return edge on each front piece for trimming Using the trick of doing light dremel sanding on the cover strips and receiving pieces for better adhesion per @TheRascalKing Got extra cover strip material from trooperbay and cut internal cover strips for both shins (now fully trimmed on the front) Gluing in progress Planning on velcro (regular or industrial strength white?)
