Hi Henry, Thanks again for your application, and especially for being so patient as we worked through the reviews. CRL and EIB Application Requirements All required photos are now in and, after review, we are pleased to welcome you to Expert Infantry rank. On behalf of the DO team and myself, many congratulations! It's clear that you really did your research when building your armor. Other-Armor Fit/Assembly In this area we review observations made by your fellow troopers and the DO team. Some observations may lead to suggestions to improve the overall look of your armor. Note that we consider both text (CRL) and pictures (screen caps/reference images) when reviewing submissions First, a very minor dressing issue - your TD is sitting too high off your belt. When you're getting ready for troops, have a handler double check that it's sitting securely, or it could actually fall off while you're trooping. Reference Image: Another very minor detail is that the TD clips should be square off, not rounded. Not a big deal at all, but worth mentioning for those who want to go the extra mile. If you do decide to tackle this suggestion, be sure that the ends of the clips are still flush with the TD plate. Also, the TD screws tended to be closer to the ends of the clips. Again, a very minor detail, but I thought I'd point it out. Reference Image: Moving along, your butt plate is popping out a bit, but it should sit right below the kidney. We're suggesting you tighten the strapping on the sides, or add some if there isn't any. Additionally, if you look at the reference images, the rear of your belt is sitting too low; it should sit above the kidney/ab split. Reference Image: Centurion Requirements In this section we prepare you for Centurion. More photos may be requested in the future that allow us to make better decisions on possible adjustments. If there are any areas of concern they will be discussed here. Because Centurion photos show much more detail than EIB, items to pertaining to Centurion might be seen there and not here. We try to point out all that we can from what is seen, but the final accuracy is the responsibility of the trooper. Starting from the top, the L3 CRL states: There should be a minimal gap between the shoulder armor and the chest/back plates. From the front your shoulder bells look *perfect* but from the rear there's a significant gap. I'm actually fairly confident that if you relaxed your arms for the rear photo, you could get most of that gap to disappear. If not, you can try rotating the bells back slightly, or making sure there is not bottom return edge on the shoulder bells. Reference Image: Moving along, the L3 CRL states: [Shoulder straps] shall free float in back. While I like the idea of using magnets to hold them in place, the straps should just be free-floating and not held down or attached in any way to the back plate. Continuing on, the L3 CRL states: Back plate shall have no, or minimal overlap of the kidney plate. Your back plate is overlapping the kidney plate: Since I'm quite short, I had to deal with this with my own kit as well. You could try shortening the strapping between the chest and back to bring the back higher, or in my case I heat-bent the rear shoulder tabs some to force the back plate to sit higher. There is also a great tutorial about how one trooper helped bend in the 'wings' on his back, eliminating the overlap: https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/40831-ajs-of-am-20-build/page/10/?tab=comments#comment-656482 Reference Image: Moving on to a couple fitting issues. I can see that you're a slender trooper, and while you've done a fantastic job with your build, your forearms and thighs don't fit you as well as they could. Your forearms are very wide, particularly at the elbow end, and the tops of your thighs are big for you as well, causing overlap between the thighs and butt plate. While forearm and thigh size isn't something stated specifically in the CRL, we do consider reference images when doing application reviews, and we think it will really help you look your best to have them more proportional. Additionally, the thigh overlap can cause painful armor bites and is probably also affecting your mobility. So we'd like you to size down both the forearms and the thighs before applying for Centurion. It won't be simple, but I have the utmost confidence in your skills. This is something that I had to deal with in my own armor build as I am also slender. The forearms can be particularly difficult due to the built in ridges, but I was able to size mine down significantly. You can see how I approached them in my build thread here: https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/42868-sha-shas-wtf-anh-stunt-build-complete/?tab=comments#comment-574130 Reference Image: Reference Image: Finally, a couple pieces that will need replacing when you apply for Centurion (and we hope you will!) The L3 CRL states: Hand guards shall be latex or latex-like, solid white or painted white, and affixed to rubber gloves with no visible strapping or stitching. Since you have plastic handguards, you'll need to get latex ones (there are some forum members who sell them) for your Centurion application. Reference Image: The L3 CRL states: Bapty-style, Hasbro and Rubies blasters are not allowed, even conversions. Unfortunately your Hasbro blaster (which you've done a great job with) will need to be replaced with one that's more accurate. I personally troop with a Hyperfirm rubber E-11. And that's it! Based on the quality of your armor build so far, I have full confidence that you'll be able to tackle these issues. As always, please reach out to us if you need any assistance, and we hope to see you at Centurion. Congratulations again, now get out there and make The Emperor proud!1 point

Eric, As far as a build goes we all do things a little different but you can look at any of @ukswrath build threads as most of us really consider his a step by step instruction manual. You can see his thread on ATA armor here!! And thanks to our Executive Office @justjoseph63 you can find a list of all the extras that you could think of here! Any other questions feel free to reach out as we're all here to help!1 point

Glued fully closed is required for approval Remove all wrist side return edge is only required for Centurion. It also greatly helps when entering and exiting your armor There are SDS Centurions that are built to butt and strip standards. Follow a suitable build thread (even this AM build), something that gives the correct building guidance. Start your own build thread if you haven't already. We can help as you build. Hope this helps1 point

Pretty much! Thanks. You did all the hard work in sourcing these parts, so I feel it's essential to use them! I think so far, I've just bailed on the selector switch and instead of putting the monocular into the sight, dismantled the monocular for its lenses. Since posting this morning, I've realised that my inner bolt is slightly off - so I've taken the diagonal strip off and I'm going to fashion that onto a second, rectangular block as you've done in your build. Just ordered a bit of 1.5mm aluminium so I can build the power cylinder plate in one, robust unit (using these plans) - seems easier than trying to sand out the original capacitors. Plus, I want to scratch build the missing mag clip too.1 point

Besides my birthday, it also seems to be that awesome time in the North East of the U.S. where everything gets warm enough to finally start having fun without getting overly hot. I hope everyone out there is having lots of fun being bad guys doing good We have some really exciting things being shown off in this newsletter edition. With Unquestioned Loyalty Sarah Bailey TK-20466 "Alay" Detachment Leader NEW CRL UPDATES AND MODEL ANNOUNCEMENTS! Okay Troopers (and future Troopers), If you have kept up on recent events here, you are aware that the updated changes in the CRLs for ANH Stunt, ANH Hero, ESB and ROTJ will take effect on June 1st. We will also be including new models! (See below) We understand that many of you may have started your build before that date, and in order to avoid confusion and possibly causing you to have to make changes, we are allowing those in that scenario to adhere to the existing CRL guidelines. There are some conditions, though: 1. You must have started (and documented) your build here on the FISD prior to June 1st. 2. You will have until September 1st (approximately 90 days) of this year to submit for Expert Infantry and then Centurion if you opt to go for higher levels with that particular set of armor. 3. We took into consideration that an average set of armor takes approximately 3 months (or less) to build and that "life happens", but if you find that it will be taking longer than the 90 days, you will be required to contact the D.O. staff if you are aiming for EI or Centurion and explain your situation. After that date, you will be required to follow the requirements as per the updated CRL. If you have already started your build and would like to include the new updates, you are more than welcome (and encouraged) to do so. If you have met the above guidelines and would like to use the existing CRL, we suggest that you print a copy before June 1st, as these will not be available to view on the 501st site after that. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact any member of the D.O. Staff. Since we are updating the requirements, as mentioned we will also be adding new CRL models for each costume as they take effect, which will include side views as well as front and back.*** On behalf of the entire Staff, I would like to congratulate those who were chosen to have this honor: 1. With Unquestioned Loyalty Preston Christman TK-91488 "Pretzel" PRO Lead - Attaché Ambassador So what exactly are EIB (Expert Infantry Badge) and Centurion levels? These programs were designed for those who choose to take their armor above and beyond the minimum requirements for basic 501st Legion approval. It gives you the chance to show a level of dedication and pride that takes your armor closer to being as "screen accurate" as possible, without as much extra work as you may realize! It also works on giving a better look to the Legion as an entity, and you can bet others will take notice of your hard work. The 501st has a list of detailed requirements for Basic approval, (level 1), EIB, (level 2) and Centurion, (level 3) which can be found here in the Costume Reference Library, (CRL) http://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:FISD_CRL Here are a few of the questions people may be wondering about: 1. "I am a (tall/short/heavy/thin) Trooper. Can I still apply? Of course! These programs are open and encouraged for all sizes of TKs, as long as the costume is correct and meets the guidelines. There are many specific build tutorials to every option, as well as a vast network of fellow TKs on the FISD to help you out and offer suggestions. 2. "How much extra will I have to pay for extra items"? The cost is actually quite reasonable, considering the few extra supplies you will need, which are listed in the requirements area. While it may run you a little more to implement these additions to your costume, they will go a long way to improving accuracy. All needed items can be found for sale on this thread: https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/16-ongoing-sales-project-orders/ While blasters are not required for basic approval, for EIB and Centurion levels they are, and may need upgrades (also listed in the CRL). 3. "I haven't even got my kit yet, is it too early to start planning"? Actually, aiming for Centurion is easiest to do right out of the box. 4. "I have my basic TK approval, can I still get in these programs"? In a word... absolutely! 5. "Are there any "perks" to this extra work and cost"? Besides knowing that you have a great looking set of armor, the 501st and FISD believes you should be deservedly recognized for your achievement(s), and allows you to wear the appropriate embroidered "rocker" badge of rank (available for a very minimum cost) on your shirt, helmet bag, etc., as well as rank decals to put on your armor bin. You will also have access to select "challenge coin" runs, receive (free) a cool certificate for your new rank, and have your title posted below your name in your FISD signature. Plus, once you reach these levels, you will have the extra knowledge to help out those who are looking to apply as well. 6. "Is it hard to apply, and what happens then"? After basic approval, all you do is make sure your armor is up to the standards set forth in the CRL, post a thread with the required photos in the appropriate area (see below), and wait a bit for the D.O.s (Deployment Officers) to address it. (Hint: Studying other people's threads before you submit can be a GREAT help). These are also listed on the main page of the FISD site. While waiting for approval, you will get some comments from others who will offer suggestions and constructive advice to help you out. If you should need any changes, the DOs will let you know, so you can adjust accordingly. Don't be dismayed if you do need changes... it's all for your benefit! After you are approved for EIB, then you can submit for Centurion. EIB https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/19-request-expert-infantryman-status/ Centurion https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/72-request-centurion-status/ Just remember that the FISD is here to help you every step of the way with whatever other questions you may have, but if you can't seem to find what you are looking for in your research, just ask away here on the forum. As many of you are aware, the FISD is currently in our March to 1000 program. Our goal is to reach the one thousand mark of Troopers who have earned their Expert Infantry Badge, and although we are well on our way to this goal and have just reached the 913 mark! The amount of approved submissions is increasing (over 80 this year alone) thanks to the dedication of those willing to go the "extra mile" toward screen accuracy. Here is a brief description of EIB as written by Paul (Daetrin), our founder: "Expert Infantryman status is not required for members of this detachment. It should be viewed as an optional set of requirements for those who wish to take the accuracy of their costumes to the next level, and be recognized accordingly. We're a costuming club - think of it as an award for costuming excellence and you get the picture. The requirements will not replace or supersede 501st standards, but only serve as an inspiration for the level of accuracy that can be achieved. The standards are meant to be high but achievable..." Besides the added pride you will have in your armor, those reaching this level can purchase exclusive EIB gear (patches, decals, coins etc.) and get a free certificate for your accomplishment. If you are interested or would like more information about the program head here that will help. You can also contact myself "Pretzel" or any Imperial Attaché, and we will be more than happy to assist you! Greetings, troopers! I am very excited to announce several upcoming merchandise runs for our detachment. First off, we are working on an all new challenge coin run! Biceps and Forearms Like most people, I decided to start with the biceps and forearms because those tend to be the easiest parts of the kit, but they ended up being some of the most challenging because of how much I had to reduce them in size. Since I'm so short, I was really worried about having Popeye arms so I really wanted to make sure the arm pieces were fit well to me. The recommended way of assembling both the bicep and the forearm pieces is to assemble the front, then trim off the rear to get it down to the size you need. However, I found that trimming only from the back side left me with a really lopsided shape, especially with the forearms, where the swoop cut out from the inner elbow edge was totally lopsided if I only trimmed from the rear, so for most of the bicep and forearm pieces, I trimmed from both the front and rear. The problem this caused was that the WTF kit (I believe ATA is the same way) has ridges on both the front *and* rear of the biceps and forearms. This wouldn't necessarily be an issue, but in order to make that flat ridge, the pieces flare out slightly, as seen in this picture: Depending on where you trim along the bicep, you can basically be left with a bell curve shape on both parts which won't meet up well. This is what happened with me. For example, here is how I sized one of the forearms: After trimming I'm left with something that fits well: But as you can see the edges meet up in a V shape rather than a flat edge: While I did use a heat gun to try to turn the flared edge into more of a curve, my solution was basically to brute force it and clamp the heck out of them: This left the pieces in a somewhat oval shape: Which I remedied with a hot water bath and also using the heat gun: As an aside, I know that most new armor builders are warned away from using the heat gun, but I found it to be an indispensable part of my build, especially for a smaller person. I found that the tip in Zel's thread of heating the armor just to the point where the 'spring' starts to go was incredibly useful. I tended to do most of my heat bending with the gun set to around 450F. Here's how the arms fit on me: After gathering some feedback from this photo, I decided to trim off the first notch of both forearms. While I like the look of the long forearms, it prevented me from really being able to bend my arms in a useful way.1 point

(excessive use of "slang" can be very hard to understand for a lot of people) -Use descriptive & interesting titles. Titles like “I need help!†don’t describe what you’re talking about. Making sure people know what you’re talking about just from reading the title will help get eyeballs on your post, using all-caps or l33t speak won’t. -Report rule infractions. If you think a post violates the Don’ts below, help us by reporting it. The mods notice who’s taking care of the community and those people are appreciated greatly. If you see something in a thread that needs to be addressed, please notify a moderator by using the report button. -Check the forums for the topic you want to talk about before you post. Someone may have already answered your question or started the conversation. -Post about topics that don’t have a forum. Can’t find the right forum? Head to the NCO Club area if you’re posting about non-stormtrooper-related stuff, or the Star Wars genre if appropriate. -Get creative with your signature. There are some guidelines and rules below. Also huge signatures clutter up threads, try to keep the size to a minimum. Promoting your own business We understand that many members run their own businesses or home-based sales operations and we don't want to stop you mentioning this. Please keep your talk of business, however, within the context of editorial conversation. If someone has a discussion with you about what you do, fine. Don't, however, respond opportunistically to threads just to promote your services. Anyone trying to fool the system by starting fake conversations will have their posts removed without comment. Post Requesting "DONATIONS" From time to time our members ask to post information about a fund raiser or other support event for charity. This is a great thing, but If you are participating in or wish to promote a charitable event, please contact the FISD staff via PM for permission first. We only allow posts that are in support of registered non-profit organizations and donations must be made directly to the organization in question via the internet. No requests for cash, money orders, checks or paypal to an individual, or personal address will be permitted. All such requests must be approved by the FISD staff PRIOR to being posted. Don't: -Troll, flame, or be offensive. We’ll remove posts we think are ethically, racially, religiously, or sexually offensive, insulting, demeaning, harassing, threatening or just non-constructively negative. We reserve the right to immediately delete any posting or ban any user at our sole discretion. -Swear or post inappropriate, suggestive or graphic images or videos. Keep it clean. We have a language filter that *bleeps* swear words, but we can’t catch everything. Please don’t try to get around the filter. And just because the offending word is gone doesn’t mean the sentence is appropriate. We’ll also remove graphic content featuring inappropriate material or language, as well as pornography or anything else the mods think doesn’t belong. -Violate anyone’s privacy or post your own identifying info. We take down public phone numbers, addresses and other personally identifying info. Also, PM's (Personal Messages) are just that "personal and private". Posting any PM in the public forums without the permission of all participants is strictly prohibited, and can result in loss of posting privileges. -Talk about any kind of illegal activities. This is dealt with a strict zero-tolerance policy. -Spam. No advertising, solicitations or promotional material (that includes petitions, arranging boycotts, asking others to vote on a poll, and advertising your personal website or other forum not directly related to stormtroopers or the 501st). No making off-topic or redundant threads, no posting multiple times in a row with nothing new, and no: * Bumping: making a new post solely to bring it to the top of the thread listing and push down legitimate discussions. * Quote for Truth (QFT): This applies when you quote someone you agree with, but only contribute a one or two word comment yourself. Try to add something relevant. * Poll Threads: Polls can be a good way to jumpstart a discussion, but poll threads that don’t encourage any kind of discussion may be edited, locked or deleted. -Use ASCII characters or capitals. Online, all caps is considered shouting. Doing so will annoy others in the community. Using ASCII characters in either your login name or your posts is considered childish by many. It also makes the admins’ faces hurt. BB-Code and Signature Help. You can use limited BB-Code to display graphics and text in your signature. As always, keep it clean – offensive or inappropriate language or imagery is not allowed. Check out the Don’ts above for what we consider offensive. also keep the size to a minimum, large signatures make threads difficult to read. Sale threads in the proper section. if wanting to sell or promote a product or service please post it in the proper area (Imperial Commissary / PX) also note that posts containing indirect or direct selling/promotion of armor by non-vetted (approved) armor makers will be promptly deleted or moved without warning. repeated violations may result in loss of all selling/buying privileges. Word Association games, Just say no. Please refrain from starting and/or participating in Word Association and/or similar threads. While they can be fun, they do not really contribute (directly or indirectly) to the mission of the FISD.Any such threads will be promptly deleted by the staff. Commercial Posts or Advertising. Commercial posts and advertising of goods or services are not allowed on the discussion forums, and will be removed. please keep all sales/interest checks in the Imperial commissary forums. Selling/Promoting of armor. All new armor makers must have the expressed permission from the FISD staff to sell/promote new types of armor/helmets. Additions and changes to these rules may occur at any time. It is your responsibility to keep up to date on them. Mason Carson TK-4603 "dashrazor" Detachment Leader1 point
