  1. If you're placing a trooperbay order, you might want to go ahead and get some of the dark green lens (thicker than the AP lens material), and the D ring for your blaster. I think I've paid more in shipping to trooperbay than I have in items because I didn't get it all at one time. I'll let one of the wise guys (haha) chime in, but I think you're good on the TD color. If those two pieces are ever close of enough to see the color difference when you are in your kit, something has gone terribly wrong.

  5. Hi there! I've been on the fence about doing a Phasma build for about a year now, and I finally decided to go for it! While this will be my first build for the 501st, I've got some decent experience that I hope will help me create the costume I've been dreaming about Reading @LadyInWhite, @sharkbait, and @Soulart posts (along with others of course) have been such an inspiration for me - I'm really excited to get going!! From what I can tell, there aren't many Phasmas around ... I live in Southern California and would love to know if I've got anyone near me who might've gone through this whole process. I've been reading threads here without joining because I was nervous, but you all are so helpful and supportive to fellow Phasma builders in the past that I decided to take a chance and join in on the fun! I've been researching armor, and I'm curious - is KB Props out of business? Seems like a lot of people went through them but then stopped a little while ago. Any recommendations for the best place to get my armor from? I'm putting together a list (similar to Sharkbait's original post here) of what I need/where to get it, so any ideas or input is super appreciated. I'm 6'1 and a little concerned about getting "big enough" items too. Before I go, I just want to say to anyone reading this -- I've been a Star Wars fan for years, and although I always knew the 501st existed, I was too scared/nervous to join. This past weekend, however, I was volunteering at a Make-A-Wish event and saw the 501st in action for the first time ... and was completely amazed. You all are awesome, creative, and so amazing with kids (and adults!). I saw people who not only love and appreciated the Star Wars universe like I do, but who also used that passion and created something magical with it for the rest of the world. Call me cheesy, but I think you all are really special. Looking forward to getting to know y'all going forward!

  6. Hi all, As many of you may be aware, I am in the process of moving to South Carolina. Unfortunately, a series of events have caused me to be incommunicado for the last 6 days due to no internet access, so my apologies to those who have PM'd or emailed me in that time. I will get back to you, I promise, and I appreciate your patience! We leave Georgia this morning and will be in our new home by this afternoon , but we will need to get settled for a bit. I will have full internet access (AT LAST) and will be back in business by this time tomorrow and will begin my replies. Again, thanks for bearing with me. Moving is hell, but not being able to go online or check email is worse.

  7. I have Ukswrath's audio system, hearing assist, and fan kit and I recommend them all, especially for having a clean, self-contained helmet. I'm still working on the hearing assist, when I use it with the fans on it tends to buzz just loudly enough to drown out what's going on outside the helmet, I'm going to install some padding to dampen/isolate the fan vibrations though. Should fix it right up. I love the audio kit too. For crowd heavy troops I'll run a splitter and an Aker under my chest plate for more volume but for a majority of the troops the audio kit is more than sufficient. Here's how I stuffed everything in my AP helmet. It gets a bit tight going on or coming off, but once it's on, I have plenty of room. I glued each component on some scrap ABS as a mounting bracket/surface and used the ear screws as main mounting points. I backed the brackets that go up into the helmet with industrial Velcro to support the weight and to keep them from flopping down. I did find that it made a noticeable difference to aim the mic directly at your mouth for the most volume possible, so I used Velcro to secure it like so:

  10. I would recommend it. I'm building my kit currently, but I knew I didn't want to be wire connected. Also, I liked the idea of the sound coming from the hovi's instead of an external speaker mounted behind the chest plate. As for wiring inside, it's really how you lay it out. I may adjust mine a little more on the inside. (I have a few other items inside as well. )

  11. Absolutely heartbreaking. Peter was a truly marvelous guy and has touched the lives of so many who have met him. I found his own words on Carrie Fisher's passing particularly meaningful

  17. Really nice work so far, Dan!! I was looking through your photos, and although it's (honestly) not a big deal it appears that your shoulder bells are backward. Some armorers (like RWA) have the "swoop" on the bottom of the side ridges (some don't) and ideally the swoop should face the front. Again, not a biggie, and it won't affect approval at any level but just thought I'd mention it. Keep those photos coming!!

  18. Hiya, Yes, if you’re looking to reduce the thighs then trimming at the back will work well. I’d remove the coverstrips and try test fitting again with tape to get your ideal fit. Just remember to try and take even amounts from both sides and to keep the coverstrips centred. Keep up the good work. :-)

  26. Well if you're looking to go screen accurate than as Rowan mentioned bracket and straps is your go to choice. I'm not aware of anyone of than Mr Nostripes that makes them. All other areas connected with poppers (specific snaps) set and sew in. Those you can get from Ebay UK, maybe some other areas by now. My Anovos OTTK build thread has a list of where to buy if you want to go that route.
