  1. Long time reader but only now joined the forums. Hello! I've been waiting on my first ever bucket, an Anovos Original Trilogy Stormtrooper Helmet, and it finally arrived yesterday. I've spent forever watching videos, reading threads and scrolling through countless photos of other peoples Anovos helmets, but I've never seen images of how mine looks inside. Now I'm not sure if it's a new version or not, but in everything I've seen online the helmet came pre-installed with a plastic head strap that you could tighten, and the teeth mesh was a triangle cutout that was sort of half glued in, most the time wonky. Both of these are not in my helmet. Instead of the head strap system, mine just has white Velcro pre-taped to all sides of the inside, along with a separate plastic bag with 6 black foam pads with Velcro on the back. The teeth mesh is also now surrounded by a soft felt and neatly attached. It also appears the green tint visor has had some love and is more securely in place than what I've seen - It has now has 3 screws on each side which are hidden on the outside by the ear - I believe all I've seen before is it was stuck down with pads? All of these changes seem to be for the better, but thought it would be worth sharing. Has anybody seen this new version before - what are your thoughts? Images: https://imgur.com/a/JE95s

  3. We have lift off! (Well, lids off) [emoji23] With the help of some old coat hangers as hooks, and a paint roller handle hanging from the ceiling, painting has begun. FYI, this Humbrol 150ml primer only lasted for spraying the parts that you see. Painting is really bringing out some of the details - and any bad craftsmanship on my part. ;-) As always, more to come. :-) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  5. Looks like you used all-purpose glue, not E6000 by the yellow-ish color. If that's the case, sand and polish it out. If it is E6000, rubbing it off like the above post is the way to go. You'd be surprised how quickly you get your armor-building sea legs. I was very scared to cut things at first, now I'm moving at a pretty good speed... though I'd still recommend doing things gradually, I've been trimming my thighs down a quarter of an inch at a time because it's way harder to add than remove.

  6. I use one of the little pieces left over from trimming. One shaped like a triangle so it has a point. I think you can get a silicone eraser from a hobby store that can help too.

  8. That is definitely different than mine. Mine is what I consider a first generation since I was in the first tier orders. Mine has no Anovos or LFL markings anywhere on the armor or helmet. I dare to say that it looks like they are improving quality by the looks of your helmet.

  9. Ahh missed you were going for a hammered finish.

  10. If doing it this way, you will have double masking work. Your last paint layer (stated above) is matt black - this also is the last paint layer for the whole blaster. Why not masking the tracks now, then paint metallic silver and hammered black, then unmask the T-tracks and spray the final matt black to everything? Just an idea but maybe I got your plan wrong...

  11. Cheers Jesse. Yes, it's exciting to finally start the painting stage. :-) Essentially for my mag release button (assuming you mean the one on the magazine housing), I added a cut down bolt into the button, drilled a 10mm hole in the mag housing, and used a spring to give it functionality. More details here: Once painted, I will glue to spring, not the bolt, into the mag housing, allowing it to push and release. Thanks, Tino. In the grand scheme of things, the minor blemishes are not enough to really bug me - especially with the multiple coats yet to come, (as you mentioned), and the light weathering that will follow.

  15. When I started putting together and fitting the torso pieces, I noticed right away that the top shoulder tabs of my back plate were digging into my back. After researching the issue, it seems that it's a common problem with taller troopers. I considered reshaping the tabs with a hot water bath but I had already glued my shoulder straps and snap and wasn't sure what the water would do to the glue. So, I made the unnerving decision to use a heat gun on the tabs. I know, I know,... using a heat gun on the tabs went against all the recommendations I could find but I had to move forward. I guess I was lucky because the process of using the heat gun seems to have worked out for me. I put the torso on for a fitment check and the tabs on the back plate sit really comfortable on my back now. https://imgur.com/96b3BTB Using a heat gun is not a process I would recommend on reshaping the tabs - I was absolutely terrified to use it. Just thankful that it worked out and the fit seems to be really good now.

  18. Today I was able to get a clean recording of the stun and fire. It was so easy. You wouldn't believe where I found the sounds. Starwars.com They have a soundboard control page where you can listen to several different Star Wars sounds. drag and drop the sound into their soundboard and record with the ICD1820... too easy. I now have the "silent second" suggested by Tino. http://www.starwars.com/games-apps/star-wars-soundboard

I would like to give my thanks to everyone who has worked so hard to make 2017 a phenomenal year for FISD. The staff in particular has been going full tilt. From the massive Celebration push that resulted in our largest merchandise runs ever, getting 4 brand new CRL’s 100% complete (and by the time you read this, the FOTK’s will have L2/L3 as well), dozens of dozens of new EI & Centurions, plus one of the more drama free years for the forums, increased Facebook coverage and even the newsletter that you are reading now. It’s all possible thanks to the tireless efforts of our staff. The attaches too have been very active in keeping the membership appraised of everything that is going on. We thank them for their service as well. Above and beyond all that, I’m thankful for the friendships that FISD and the Legion have created and forged, some going back a decade or more. I am very thankful to be part of a Legion of people united by their love of Star Wars to bring joy to so many people. That, and my armor. And my blaster. With Unquestioned Loyalty Paul Hoeffer TK8020 “Daetrin” FISD Detachment Leader Greetings fellow Troopers Fist, I would like to thank Tim for his hard work and dedication as a Detatchement Leader and as an Detatchment XO. Secondly, I would like to thank Paul for the trust to be his XO. When I heard that Tim had to stepped down, Paul asked if we had any candidate in mind. I messaged Paul and raised my hand. Why? Because I love the FISD. I come here and I feel at home. I don’t want to do this for glory or to tell people: Hey, I’m the XO. I do it for the love of these costumes. A little about me. In the real world, I’m a production manager in aeronautical lifting equipment company. I joined the Legion in 2013. Currently, I have five 501st approved costume and one Rebel Legion costume. This month: "ANH Stormtroopers" The local actors hired to play Sandies in the ANH scene where they are investigating the escape pod were paid a whopping 8,500 Tunisian Dinars. (about $6.50). When you hear the "clunking" sound of blasters being cocked, it is actually the sound of a parking meter handle being turned. The sound of the E-11s was made by using a hammer to strike the "guy wire" of a radio antenna. Luke's line (as a TK) "I can't see a thing in this helmet" was not scripted. He said it to Harrison Ford when he thought the cameras had stopped rolling, and it was left in the film. (Welcome to OUR world, you whiny Rebel). In the opening scene, this is the only time in the Saga where a TK uses an Imperial Blaster in the "stun" mode. The Last Jedi Trailer II Members of the 501st Midwest, Great Lakes, Southern California and Wisconsin Garrison's as well as Disney actors walked out on to the field during halftime of the NFL football game between the Chicago Bears and the Minnesota Vikings in Chicago last month. Trooping Battlefront II & The Last Jedi For those that are unaware the 501st has been given approval by Disney/LFL to organise troops for both the premier of The Last Jedi and also the release of Battlefront II. There are a couple of rules, as always please make sure the host of the event does not advertise your appearance, BUT you are welcome to advertise on your own / garrison / squad's social media. Also for The Last Jedi you can only visit cinemas, no other retail locations. Official correspondence from Disney/LFL · November 17-19: Battlefront II Launch · December 14-21: The Last Jedi Theatrical Events Hi all, We wanted to send the club leads some advance notice of two events that will be open to costumed appearances by fans without prior approval from Disney or Lucasfilm – the Battlefront II launch, spanning the weekend of November 17-19 (give or take a day or two) and the release of The Last Jedi, during the week of December 14-21. For the Battlefront II launch, we’re asking that the appearances be limited to those retailers who are selling Battlefront II and that costumed appearances not be used in the advertising for the event. Costumed fans who wish to participate at special events surrounding the launch of The Last Jedi between December 14-21, 2017 may do so at accommodating theaters without seeking approval from Disney/Lucasfilm. Like the BFII launch, we are asking that costumed appearances not be used in the advertising for the event. We are leaving it to the individual fans and fan groups to independently organize around these events as they see fit, so if you or your group will require a special area for changing in/out of costume, etc., please reach out to the theater management/staff to make those arrangements. PLEASE NOTE that costumed appearances for The Last Jedi premieres are restricted to theatrical venues only and do not include general retailers, toy stores, restaurants, etc. We want to thank all our fans for their continued support of Star Wars and look forward to celebrating more exciting movie releases with you in the years to come! *NOTE* Always follow your garrison/squad's guidelines when in comes to organising Disney/LFL promotional troops. Want Your Troop to be Included? Post your troop report in the Field Training Exercises section here Those with troop logs please post a separate troop report as it is easier to link too. Are you an approved TK that spends more time on the boards than the average Trooper? Do you enjoy using your knowledge to help out future and existing Troopers? If so, we would like to invite you to join the Imperial Attache program! Members of the I.A. team are chosen to help out not only those here on the boards, but on a local level as well. Our aim is to have at least one in each and every Garrison, Squad and Outpost in the entire legion to be the eyes and ears of the FISD on a local level. A suggested level of EIB or above is preferred, as part of the duties include assisting those aiming for levels 2 and 3, but is not a requirement. Being active on the boards on a regular basis , welcoming new members and helping out where you can is, though. Some of the benefits: 1. Access to exclusive Attache merch., including patches, etc. 2. Having the Imperial Attache title under your name. 3. Being a part of the team that welcomes new and prospective members of the FISD. 4. Being the "go-to" person in your Garrison, Squad or Outpost. 5. Exclusive access to the Attache HQ area, Imperial Propaganda Machine (newsletter) and merchandise discussions. We are currently in need of Attaches in many units, especially International Garrisons/Squads and Outposts. As many of you are aware, the FISD is currently in our March to 1000 program. Our goal is to reach the one thousand mark of Troopers who have earned their Expert Infantry Badge, and although we are well on our way to this goal, we still have a long way to go! The amount of approved submissions is increasing (over 80 this year alone) thanks to the dedication of those willing to go the "extra mile" toward screen accuracy. Here is a brief description of EIB as written by Paul (Daetrin), our founder: "Expert Infantryman status is not required for members of this detachment. It should be viewed as an optional set of requirements for those who wish to take the accuracy of their costumes to the next level, and be recognized accordingly. We're a costuming club - think of it as an award for costuming excellence and you get the picture. The requirements will not replace or supersede 501st standards, but only serve as an inspiration for the level of accuracy that can be achieved. The standards are meant to be high but achievable..." Besides the added pride you will have in your armor, those reaching this level can purchase exclusive EIB gear (patches, decals, coins (coming soon) etc.) and get a free certificate for your accomplishment. If you are interested or would like more information about the program head here that will help. You can also contact myself or any Imperial Attaché, and we will be more than happy to assist you! 22. Evening all, Did a few of the final pieces tonight. I started with the “marker pen” inner bolt mod. Then moved on to the pins on the counter. I used pin and spade connectors, cut down to size with the Dremel. Next up, a part I wasn’t really planning on doing, however I’m really pleased I have now. I used a piece of ABS cover strip from my armour build for the counter reset button. Marked up for drilling - ended up drilling out through the bottom of the counter...doh. Also, managed to snap off half of my drill bit IN the counter and couldn’t get it out; hence the weird shape of my ABS reset button. After studying the real counters a little more, I noticed the little gap under the pins - used a junior hacksaw to add the little gap. In amongst all of the above, I also improved the areas where the T-tracks meet the barrel. Mag repair also sanded down. Thanks world. Painting next!!!!! :-) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  23. Looks great man!! I love the strapping you did... did you make it all yourself or use a kit from someone? As far as kids kicking you and all — yes. It's why we (speaking in a general sense) don't do birthday parties and never do anything with kids around without handlers. You'll learn to play the part though as time goes on; meaning you'll learn to let yourself be intimidating to kids and scare the Rebel out of them. haha

  25. Hi Garry! One of the best places to see armor is right here in the EIB and Centurion submission threads. The applicant lists the armor in the heading of their request, so you can go take a look at REALLY detailed photos of the Anovos kit and feedback on the builds relative to EIB and Centurion standards. I found that REALLY helpful when doing my first build. You can get a feel for the optimal assembly of your kit this way. Here are a couple Anovos Centurion approvals: http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/40784-tk-82666-requesting-anh-stunt-centurion-status-anovos-309/ http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/40333-tk-10998-requesting-anh-stunt-centurion-status-anovos-303/ As for your crack, you can most likely glue a piece of scrap ABS on the backside and then make some ABS paste to repair the crack. To make ABS paste you use scraps from your armor and cut it up into little pieces like confetti. Then add some acetone (you can get at the hardware store) and mix with a wooden stick. You're going for the consistency of toothpaste. You can then use this to patch cracks or holes. Once dried you can sand and polish and it will be all better! One final note on Anovos. Their trim lines leave you with a LOT of return edge. Again, look at the pieces in those EIB and Centurion submissions and you will get a feel for where people trimmed those back. Best of luck to you!
