  2. With regard to what to call them, I have a suggestion that may (or may not) be quite simple and easy to implement and avoid confusion. Use Generation 1, 2, 3 etc as successive versions are released. None of us can predict what the future will or will not bring, and using Heavy Weapons Trooper, Generation 1, 2, 3... Allows us to put which armor iteration it comes from in the CRLs description "This costume is based on the character depicted in Star Wars Battlefront II (2009)" or 2017, as applicable. This approach may be as future-proof as we can hope to be right now. If you disagree, then please say so. I've been wrong twice in the past. Also, I'm firmly opposed to going anywhere near an "anything goes" approach to accessories and weapons with our CRLs, simply because the video games allow you to do so in Multiplayer. I believe that we should focus on the equipment that is depicted in the Campaign mode for each costume that we take on, from any of the video games. That is the only part of the games that can actually be referred to as Canon. Otherwise, yes, we will have ROTJ TKs using jump packs and EE-3s, or Lando's Night Sniper pistol. Not a sensible way ahead in my opinion.

  3. So, several of you have inquired about the availability of the "Evolution of a Trooper" shirts that were mentioned by Paul (Daetrin) in this edition of the Newsletter. At the time that the NL was drafted, the shirts were well on their way to production and availability. Alas, they hit a snag in the approval process, which does indeed happen from time to time. They are still being pursued for production, to continue to ensure that the Legion's Stormtroopers are dressed to impress both in costume, and out. We already make everyone else look bad as it is. May as well pour a little salt in those salty wounds. They hate us cause they ain't us. Thank you for understanding, and standby for updates please.

  4. Try not to trim your shoulder bells in a straight line like you would if you followed your yellow tape. The real ANH shoulder bells were trimmed in a curved shape. Here are a pair of my bells to show you how to trim them, although I went for a wonky look and you might want to keep them a bit neater Trimming them in a curve really helps with the overall look and reduces gaps.

  5. Well this morning I treated the greaves to a pot of boiling water to help mould them into shape ..... they are a lot better now Then I tried the armour on, I can hardly see out of the lid, just what's in front of me, I can't see down at all other than what can be seen through the teeth..... the problems of being a small trooper seem never ending lol Oh and the shoulder bells are a tad too big, the cod can't go any higher without my voice changing pitch lol I think it's time I shortened the right greave and start work on the right thigh . Not too sure if the left greave needs to be shorter?

  6. Where we are at is that we just did a major forum upgrade, completed first draft of the R1 CRL, and got out a newsletter. Whew! I'm packed tomorrow but should have time Tuesday to push this further.

  7. Hey all,<br> I think I've got my choices narrowed down to Walt's WTF Armor or AP Armor. My concern is that I'm a little 'thick' throughout the upper body. I'm 5-10, 220 lbs with a background in power/weightlifting. Waist is a solid 36" measured at the bb. Proportions are Greek God-like and I'm handsome as hell. TMI? Anyway, just wanted to make sure fitting isn't an issue. I looked at RT-Mod Armor but the year wait doesn't work for me. Thanks!

  8. My new throat mic finally came in today! I think I finally have an alternative to the digging in of the headset into my skull and having to tongue kiss my mic extension into position 100 times a troop. Got some GREAT info from my fellow troopers, especially Toybiz in this post- http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/28793-my-experience-using-a-throat-mic-and-source-for-a-mic-only-version/ I went with the ixradio dual transponder, 50 bucks. http://www.ixradio.com/shop/throat-mic/ Combined it with my go-pro chest harness, aker and icomm. So NO wires on my armor at all or helmet. It all hides under my neck seal also. I did not use the push to talk, this video is on Vox. I will give it the troop test at a laser tag event this Saturday- will give a follow up report!

  9. http://whitearmor.net/images/newsletter2015/inthisissue.png From the DL From the XO Notable Troops Advanced Tactics Awards, Imperial Attache Outstanding Achievement Award & Master Armorer Award Follow FISD http://whitearmor.net/images/newsletter2015/fromthedetachmentleader.png Greetings Troopers! Just when you thought that the staff was going on holiday for the summer, think again! The FISD staff continue to keep the ball rolling with a slew of new items and updates for you, our most favorite Stormtrooper. Yes, the dark side has cookies, but we have CRL updates, forum updates, program updates, new merch and more. So take a break with your favorite smoothie and let's see what we have in store for you. Packs are on our minds, lots of packs. - The Spack Pack is now part of the ANH Hero CRL, so regardless of which ANH costume you do, you can rock a pack. - The Shock Trooper can now wear a pack as an accessory. Pictures are on their way, but the text has been approved and you are ready to go. Rogue One The Rogue One TK CRL first draft is complete and off to the LMO for review. Pictures are in progress and it should be ready for approval in July. Oh, and did you want dirt with that? Maybe a nice DLT-19? Yes to both! Keep your eyes peeled, it's going live sooner than you think. Rogue One Sandies to MEPD There has been a lot of chatter regarding if the Rogue One sandtroopers, also known as Jedha or Kyber troopers, the ones with the fabric packs, should stay on FISD. However after much discussion, the decision was that MEPD had a strong desire to create a welcoming experience and support of this costume, and so anyone interested in going full Kyber with their Rogue One trooper should log in to MEPD and see how to take their dirtyness to the next level. I think this is a natural fit both for the costume and for our members, and am highly confident that MEPD will do it justice. Forum Upgrades After many years of being a stick in the mud, our current forum software is no longer supported and we are upgrading. This meant a few days downtime for us, but the end result has been worth it. The UI now looks a lot like MEPD & SpecOps which will make being a dual member much easier, and there are a lot of new, convenient features such as being able to drag and drop photos in to a post. Nice, eh? And yes, there is even more goodness in the pipes. New Shirts, ID Badges, and more! The Evolution of a Trooper shirt is back and on sale after many years absence - you'll want one for sure! Also, we have changed vendors for the Celebration shirts so if you missed out you can now get one on demand. FISD ID badges are also on sale (they are super cool!) and after many iterations, a commemorative First Order version of our logo patch. So, check out the latest shirts on offer and be on the lookout for the next coinage & patch runs. Sounds good, so what's next? The First Order CRL is being updated and will soon have paths for Expert Infantry and Centurion levels. This is also true of Captain Phasma who is quite popular in the ranks. Also, the HWT CRLs will be broken out to include newer variants. Both should be done in July. And in case you missed it... - FISD Hockey Jerseys are still on sale. EDIT: Run ended prior to forum upgrades delayed publication of the Newsletter. - We launched the Master Armorer program. Ever help someone go EI? You can get a "win" for it and start racking up points. Think the EI badge is nifty? Check out what we have for builders. Summer is always a big parade season so I'll leave you with a final reminder to DRINK WATER. No one wants to win the dehydrated trooper award. Have a great month! With unquestioned loyalty, Paul TK-8020 "Daetrin" FISD Founder | DL http://whitearmor.net/images/newsletter2015/fromthexo.png If it seems like we just did this, that's because it wasn't all that long ago that we did this... Even though it was indeed not that long ago, it is always a good time to sit down and read even more stuff about Stormtroopers and what our peers in shiny white armor (and the various other types of TK costumes) are doing across the globe, wouldn't you agree? As always, we have a lot of activity happening and some great events and achievements to highlight. The Staff have been busy with a great many things in the background, and there is never a shortage of EIB and Centurion applications or awards to acknowledge. So as the Summer Season Heats up.. Take advantage of the opportunity to get to know your fellow members. Attend barbecues or get-togethers. Most of our world is entering the nice weather that allows for those things, so don't let an opportunity to get to know someone a little bit better pass you by. Also, be sure that you continue to do all of the things that lead to success when trooping - hydrate, maintain your armor, host or attend armor parties and pass along all that you have learned here. Take a new recruit under your wing and lead them to the FISD - and maybe even further to the rolls of Advanced Tactics Award recipients if you are already one yourself. If you're not, no worries, it isn't that difficult to become one. Take up the battle cry and become a part of the March to 1000! You're a TK, you're inherently awesome. Show the world what you can do, and make memories for them that they'll never forget! Be that Stormtrooper that they saw when they were young, the one that changed their lives forever. We Also Need to Acknowledge the Web Team Perhaps you've noticed that things look a little bit different around the Detachment these days. Well, we were due for a forum upgrade, and the supreme web-knowledge guys (the uber-nerd overlords) dug in deep and did their thing. Looks pretty snazzy now - at least I think it does. This is just another of the continuing efforts being pursued by the Staff to improve the Detachment and the experience for you, the members. Obviously, the timing was a bit rough, as this Newsletter should have been published at the height of the upgrades. A little bit of time lost is well worth the results though. One thing that many will be happy about, I'm sure? Well, see for yourself. Be sure to try out the Search feature at the top of the page. Of course, there are growing pains associated with change. The biggest issue that we are seeing at the moment is purely coincidental, and that is the decision by our formerly favorite photo-hosting site (Photobucket) to charge for third-party hosting. As a result, sadly, most of the photos in build threads, and posts from the past are missing in action. Hopefully members will get those threads repaired, but that will be a lot of work for everyone to tackle so we will see what happens. In the meantime, get comfortable with the new setup, and if you find any bugs/glitches/problems - or if you have any good suggestions for improvement, please share them with the Staff. We will be doing the same! You Know What I Think is One of the Best Things About Being a TK? I say it and post it all the time in Star Garrison, and I'm sure that the non-TKs are really tired of it, but that's alright, they hate us cause they ain't us. Anyway, what I say (to pretty much every single new recruit to the Garrison) is this: When it comes to events and costumes, there are never enough TKs, and there are never too many TKs! Being a Stormtrooper doesn't make you cool, but if you are cool, you're probably already a Stormtrooper! Have Fun and Be Safe Out There, Troopers - Take Lots of Pictures and Share Them Here, Too! This distinction will go to those who are not only consistently assisting present Troopers, but helping future Troopers on their white armor journey as well. This includes greeting first-time posters, offering advice and guidance, assisting with EIB and Centurion levels and staying active on the FISD and/or their local boards. Recipients are considered on the basis of a combination of those contributions and been an Attache for at least one full year. For those of you not familiar with the program, the Imperial Attaches are the ones that are on the "front-lines", using their knowledge and experience by helping out in various areas and contributing to the betterment of the FISD and 501st Legion. If you are interested in joining the program or would like more information, I have provided a link below. Below are the Troopers who will be receiving the award : 1. Randy (magni) NEG Attache- Is always in the forefront of providing great information, greeting new folks and assisting future and approved TKs with advice and guidance. 2. Allan (allan1313) ECG Attache- Also a mainstay here and one of our best I.A.s by far, he exemplifies the "Troopers helping Troopers" motto. 3. Tony (ukswrath) GGG Attache- In addition to serving as one of our D.O.s and helping folks on a daily basis, Tony's build threads have been viewed over half a million times! With over 8,000 posts to his credit, his contributions to the FISD are legendary. 4. Andrew (Sly11) Redback Garrison Attache- The "Wonder from Down Under" is also one of our D.O.s, and his knowledge of armor is simply amazing. His white armor wisdom and sage advice have helped countless Troopers become members of the 501st and FISD as well as join the ranks of EIB and Centurion. Please join me in congratulating them, and may you continue to serve the FISD, the 501st Legion and the Empire proudly! 12. My thighs are held on with an adjustable belt that you can't see that's what keeps my thighs in place really well, it's alot better then attaching them with snaps to the ab plate, the shoulder Bells are held on by the elastic that's tighter around my bicep hook so that way it keeps it shaped better

  13. Hahaha... those shoulders! The RS shoulders as sent need a huge amount of plastic removed. In case you're hesitant about trimming them, according to Rob, the cut should be 12" from the bottom of the spine to the trim, then 5" from the edge of the spine to the trim. See how much?! Even with all that removed, I still had to remove even more to avoid the Linebacker Trooper look. You may want to consider shortening up the back. Your kit looks like it's fitting you in a similar manner as mine did before I shortened up the kidney. In the graphic below, look at the lines where the butt plate/kidney and ab line up. This graphic is to illustrate the kidney notch size, but it's also good to understand the alignment with the front and back halves. The bottom of the ab plate and the meeting point of the kidney/butt plate are roughly parallel. Here's you (it's the other side as the graphic, but same principals apply): Can you see how the kidney could be reduced to bring up that alignment? You might also want to take a little off the bottom of the back plate in order to keep everything in proportion (a suggestion, but not required!). Anyhow, you can see I had the same issue in the pics below. Pic on the left is after my kidney and back plate were initially shortened. It still didn't look right to me. I shortened the kidney again, and that's what you see in the photo on the right. I know everything is duct taped together, but I'm wondering what you plan on using to connect the chest and ab. If you're planning on using brackets, you may need to reduce the amount of overlap between the chest and ab. Make sure that the chest ridge detail stays about where it is in this shot: It's difficult to tell if your chest is in the correct position because your shoulder bells and biceps are kind of floating on you in your pics. The middle of the chest ridge detail should line up around the middle of the shoulder bells. About the duct tape strapping... it's nice to use for a very general idea of how it'll go together, but your kit will go together differently once you have the real strapping installed. Installing the brackets terrified me. Other troopers at an armor party pushed me to install them, and I was so glad that I did it afterwords. It really helped me get a better idea of what needed adjustment. Take the leap and get your strapping mounted in there. Also, you may want to consider getting your garter belt together for the thighs at this point. I used industrial velcro on the belt and inside the thighs as a temporary fitting measure so I could have a more secure way to keep the thighs up. Works much better than tape! Once the torso was fully completed, I was then able to trim the thighs more easily because velcro holds things much more securely. After the thighs were trimmed to fit, I removed the velcro and glued in permanent elastic loops on the thighs. I hope I'm not overwhelming you with all this! You're making great progress.

  15. Right click the image in your local Dropbox folder and choose "Copy Dropbox link" and change ?dl=0 to ?raw=1 at the end of the URL. Now it'll embed. Now, how do you replace 100 pictures in a thread quickly on THIS forum? - Click on edit post - Right click image placeholder and choose "Open image in new tab" (This is in Chrome. IE or Firefox may differ) - Go to new tab (this will be Photobucket) and save image from new tab into the local Dropbox folder you want to use - Keep the Dropbox folder open (I recommend viewing files in detail view and ordering by "date created" so the current image is always at the top) - Right click saved image and choose "Copy Dropbox link" - Return to forum post and backspace to delete image in forum post - Click "Insert other media (bottom right) and choose "Insert image from URL" - Paste URL and change ?dl=0 to ?raw=1 at the end of the URL - Repeat This may sound difficult, but once you get into a groove it takes about 10 seconds an image. This saves you from having to download your whole Photobucket en masse, an trying to figure out what images were where. It is also way easier than uploading to a new image hosting service and running through the process of getting the new image URL for each. Feel free to copy and paste this to any forum anywhere . . . I don't mind. Vaya con Dark Side. Danny Steinberg TK 66668 Canadian Garrison

  17. Perhaps the manufacturer of the trim used some kind of oil to protect or preserve the rubber that caused the yellowing of the ABS. You can clean the trim and try again on some scrap ABS. Cheers Christian

  18. The problem with your knee plate digging into your knee is because it is not fitted properly. The plate wants to be flat against the joining strip following the red lines in the image, not angled inward following the yellow lines like you have it.

  23. Just my 2 cents: For added clarification and easy building I find important to have a Heavy Weapons Trooper Battlefront 2004/2005 (the existing one) and then the future Weapons Trooper Battlefront 2017. If the differences of the expected new character aren't that much maybe the current category could only have the additional features of the 2017 HWT (new weapons, new backpack, etc) like the IOC has done with the Rogue One ISB officer - they kept the ISB Officer entry but with a Rogue One add-on (3 changes versus the OT ISB officer).

I finally got the injection molded parts i needed.. Now ill complete the solenoid assembly and come up with a cylinder for the numbers... Few thing left to do on it... The sterling itself will be done soon but i am releasing some of the individual parts such as the rear sight and the rear cap latch ,as i get them packaged up... ebay http://www.ebay.com/usr/vmusicstore http://www.warmachinepaintball.com/ http://www.warmachinepaintball.com/o...tore-replicas/ http://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=267831 /forum/topi...l-build/page-1

  35. I like the idea. However, item 1 should be called something like PreBattlefront or Battlefront 09. Items 2 and 3 derive from the current Battlefront Game called just 'Battlefront', so we could reference Battlefront I Battlefront II is coming out in November and you will see a lot of characters from this one as it covers all Episodes of Star Wars. I also like the idea of allowing ANH armor for Lvl 1 and Lvl 2, since most of us have ANH armor.
    1 point
  36. Thanks! Here is what I'm seeing so far: CURRENT: There is one HWT CRL trying to cover a variety of base armors and accessories. This is causing a lot of problems as the original base armor is pretty much ANH-type, later version are ROTJ type. SOLUTION: 1. Have current HWT focus only on the original game using ANH armor/helmet as a base. Call it "Heavy Weapons Trooper (Battlefront)" 2. Create a new CRL for the current game version, which is ROTJ based. Call it "Heavy Weapons Trooper (Battlefront II)" 3. Create a new CRL for the magma trooper, called "Magma Trooper (Battlefront II)" Sound right? I'm thinking for items #2 & #3, perhaps allowing ANH armor for L2, but then forcing ROTJ or modified ANH for L2/L3 to start. Thoughts? Lastly, I'm wondering if we can loop this guy somewhere, I'm guessing as a "Stormtrooper - Force Unleashed", if anyone ever wants to do one. It's an ROTJ body with ANH helmet & handguards, essentially an unpainted TKC or ICN. http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/18647-high-resolution-phase-iii-tk-images-7-images/

  37. I have had a few people in my Garrison copy this idea so I thought I would post it here for FISD members too Do you have an issue with keeping TK shins in place? More specifically stopping the shin armor from moving up and above your boots? I know I did! When I had this problem I investigated a few different options, I first tried the hook velcro on boot & loop velcro on inner shin combo, whilst this did help I found that walking up and down stairs a couple of times was enough for it to come apart. So I've improved on this with a "stirrup" setup.. The following setup has been tested with many troops (and stairs!) and I have had no issues with riding or twisting Here is what I did... I made stirrups for each leg using a length of 1inch wide high density elastic, this was glued and stitched to a 50mm x 50mm square of hook velcro. Then I glued and stitched a 50mm x 50mm square of loop velcro to a piece of nylon strapping the same size. Then glued this into the front of each shin just above the top of the boot line. When attached it looks like this This way you can have a "stirrup" setup but you can also put your boots on first Then attach the velcro before closing your shins as normal The elastic allows for plenty of movement and pulls the shin back into place if it rides up Hope this helps someone

  39. I have an AP/RT-MOD mix currently. I'm a bigger trooper as well, and sitting at 5'11" ~225lbs. I started with AP, but soon realized that the armor did not fit me as well in the chest/shoulder bell area. As result.. Gaps were large. Now, keep in mind.. If you do decide to go with AP.. You will get approved.. No problem.. But again, everyone is different and all depends how you cut, shape the armor. I find that the RT-MOD fits my body type much much nicer and he is actually rather good on time and parts... I suggest doing what is right. Always pick the right armor for you and your body type. In the end, it is up to you.. But when purchasing armor.. You want to be sure it will fit you well and not have to go back and replace/upgrade parts after an initial purchase. I'll attach my AP vs RT-Mod photos for reference. Keep in mind my body type. Difference is noticeable. But my chest and shoulders sit better (imo) Both are great makers.. And both are great choices. You can't go wrong with either.. It is up to you entirely. AP RT-MOD Sent from my LG-H810 using Tapatalk

  40. Hi all! If you are like me, you have often wondered how people get such nice, round circles when painting the ab buttons. I tried free hand, it was a disaster. I tried circle templates, but often got bleeding under the template. Then, quite my accident, I was dabbing off the paint using the toothpicks I use to stir the paint and.... Look at those nice circles! So, I stirred the paint, and let a few drops come off, then before the next drop comes off.. And then keep waiting for the drop to come off the toothpick... If you want the circle bigger, just stir the paint drop with the toothpick, it slowly gets bigger. And you have nice circles that still have that hand painted look. Try it if you have trouble with painting circles. Good luck!
