Tim's AP Build[*AP]
stukatrooper replied to TrooperTim's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
very nice steady hand you have there, great job . -
How much asymmetry was really there?
stukatrooper replied to Daetrin's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
If you look at screen shots of the suits extras and heros some troopers are all mixed up two left forarms two of the same shoulder bells etc. the suits i believe were made from a body cast and we as people are far from Symmetrical .I can only speak about my TM and like you say every part differs from left to right ,but it fits like a glove and fels right. So i think the answer is that they were made that way from the body cast on the orig suits. -
The size of the plates are not set in stone you can make them as big as you like.the ref pictures i put up are of a plate size 40mm x40mm The ones i use on the arms are cut to fit in the grove detail so are about 20mm x 40mm . The trick is to alow enough plastic past the snap to get a good footprint or bonding area.

sshees good to go as is mate.eyes are spot on and teeth look to be in good shape as well.Like the overall look of the lid.Brow trim looks nice in that position.I would stop any more trimming as you can get carried away, move onto another job. Keep up the great work. -
done.

I had a quick google and the most common and readily available plastic weld state side is this fellow,it even has a brush built into the lid. Any hobby shop worth its title should stock it and there is mail order.I found plenty on the web.

Yes i use a soldering iron most of the time ,this way it makes a nice hole and helps the elastic from fraying

lol i just read this and thought i would make a how-to How to make Snaps and tabs
-
I see this question asked lots so thought i would put a little something to help troopers starting out. Tools. Now these have a funny name they are called Vario Pliers Measure and cut some plastic lets call these Tabs these can be all sizes depending on where you are putting them. see example pictures at the end of the topic . Make the centre of your Tab . For the most part, the male Snap fits into the Tab us the pliers on the Snap and tab then Sqeeeeze its that easy. Finished ready for the glue. As for the Glue i have always used ABS plastic weld .Its a liquid just like water and is applied with a small brush. Plastic weld dissolves a thin layer on each surface to be joined, then it evaporates very quickly foaming a welded join. The weld is as strong as the surounding plastic. For best results hold the two pieces of plastic together and with a small brush apply the plastic weld around the join.Capillary actionwill spread it the length and bredth of the join, foaming a continuous sold weld.It is almost an invisable join. Plastic weld can be used on ABS,STYRENE,BUTYRATE,PERSPEX and also HIPS.Science lesson over now for some more pictures. The female Snap for the most part fits to your webbing ,elastic or fabric To finish a nice example of the shoulder and arm Snap and Tab system. Hope that helps your builds along the way.

dont worry about the ouch mark on the ear mate though i bet your heart sank when it happened.Sand out the mark and finish with wet and dry paper. Then use NOVAS plastic polish on the dull sanded area to buff the shin back, trust me when i say that it will not notice. Best of luck with the build. -

The six Star Wars films are to be turned into a musical, which will premiere at London's O2 Arena in April. Star Wars: A Musical Journey, which has been put together by George Lucas's company Lucasfilm and composer John Williams, who has "painstakingly rewritten" the music he wrote for the movies, will feature live narrators and a score by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra while excerpts from the films are shown on a screen. David Campbell, chief executive of AEG Europe, which runs the O2, told the BBC website: "Star Wars holds memories for practically everyone. John Williams is the composer of our times, and fans will be thrilled to know that both he and Lucasfilm have contributed fully to this new production. "To have the premiere at the 02 is a real coup for us, and I know there will be a lot of very happy Star Wars fans out there when they hear the news." The show opens on 10 April. Tickets, priced from £30 to £100, will go on sale next Monday. Now that sounds like a troop.

stukatrooper replied to Heatshock's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
You got to bleed for your art mate.Always have some super glue handy that way theres only a short pit stop then on with the trimming. I bet we all have a story to tell on that score. -

new TE2 build - sort of[*TE]
stukatrooper replied to Heatshock's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
the strips for the arms are sized at about 15mm so they dont overpower the look of the arms as they are a smaller in diameter than the legs.Thats how i see it anyway, there is no set in stone measuement for any of the strips. Its all about proportions. Small diametre small strips ,legs are larger so larger width strips for the legs.I have always used about a 15mm for the arms and 25mm for the legs, any larger and they will look on the heavy side and spoil the overall look in my view. -
very nice build Lisa,i have been following your progress and am over the moon to see that its all come together so well. I have one or two more tips for you (take them or leave them ) On the shoulder plastic straps like mine they are very long, what i did was cut the back of the straps off up to the ribbed section. This still gave me ample length and stopped them crashing into my back box. The only other thing i would be asking is,are you going to cut the line sperating the butt and back plate. This is very straight foward and will give you better movement. The only other small thing would be to glue some elastic from the front of your bells to the back. This would hold the bells 100% to your arms. ---------- Hope the pictures show what i mean.As i say ,the build is great without the small changes so up to you.
