What decals for the NE armor
Darth Aloha replied to olpc1701's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
We really don't know the origins of the NE faceplate. Hand painting seems like the easiest and safest way to go unless you want to take a chance on a set or two knowing they may not fit. I'm really really interested in a side by side comparison with NE and something with screen lineage. I'm thinking of offering a prize for the first person to take lots of quality photos of an NE next to another well known helmet like TE2 or ATA etc. -Eric Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Troop as Mr. No Stripes all you want.... for legion acceptance at any level? Probably never. Heck.... I troop in flowery swim trunks. -Eric

I'm still looking for a comparison of the NE helmet size and something with screen lineage. Whoever is taking photos of NE stuff for comparison please make sure you take detailed photos of the helmet next to an ATA, TE2, or RS etc.... Thanks! -Eric

Nerf Gun Weathering Gods.... You're my only hope.

Hmmm paint pen... clever! Although I've used the silver paint on a dry brush which is more or less the same thing. Neat tip! -Eric -

You're exactly on the right track. If you can find hammered black spray paint at your local home improvement store... it'll give your nerf guns a little bit more of a metal look. However you may need to spray some flat clear over it because it ends up a little glossy. Check your local laws about orange tips on toy guns if you take that party outside. -Eric -
QFT That doesn't mean that we shouldn't urge members to modernize their costumes even if we're told to take a hike. Unfortunately the plastic belts and split butt/kidney aren't the only requirements on the base CRL that they probably don't meet. The list is long for some out of date TKs and gets longer every year. Change is hard. Some people are very attached to the way things were.... and often quite proud of the way things were done in the old days. Over time I would hope that standing out in a crowd of great looking TKs would be motivation enough to upgrade their kit. I'm not sure they realize that the public CAN tell the difference between the old and new even if they can't articulate why one TK looks different than the others. Maybe the attachés can chime in with a list of reasons to explain someone with an old out of date TK why they should modernize? Aloha, -Eric

Helmet sizing - XL?
Darth Aloha replied to SaturnGypsy's topic in Getting Started - Read this First!
Does this help? It's my RT-MOD helmet minus the neck trim: ---------- My hat size is 7 5/8 and I also have an ATA which is smaller inside but still fits. The ATA opening is a bit smaller but if I wanted to I could trim the opening wider... as with any helmet you build yourself. My RT-MOD fits me just as well. There's ever so slightly more room in the RT-MOD helmet which means I have much less padding in the ATA than the RT-MOD. A TE2 also fits just as nicely on my big squash as the ATA. However I feel claustrophobic in an AP helmet. It still remains to be seen if the new NE helmet is bigger than one that has screen lineage. Aloha, -Eric -
Ralph McQuarrie's Concept Stormtrooper "Armor"
Darth Aloha replied to kwdesigns's topic in Concept Armor
Having this thread in the newsletter caused me to reread it in its entirety and this note caught my eye. Why should this or any other TK related costume be any different than C3PO? Because not accommodating the larger trooper runs totally counter to the inclusive nature and basic mission of FISD, that's why. I'm grateful that Kev offers two sizes of his clone armor and I hope he does so with his RMQ gear too. Apologies to KW for derailing this badass thread briefly. -Eric -

Congrats on being the first NE approved. Say hi to Mr. and Mrs. Femtrooper for me. We miss them here in Hawaii Aloha, -Eric -
The only other kit these days that comes with a 3 part helmet that I know of is rt-mod and they arrive pre assembled. You and the handful of NE armor builds are breaking new ground. In fact FISD is hoping that the NE folks will educate us on how the 3 part helmet goes together. I'm still curious how big it is compared to other helmets. You can strap up your armor however you like but I wouldn't recommend Velcro. It wears out after repeated use and is prone to coming apart while trooping. If you only intend to troop a few times a year and keep your armor on a mannequin Velcro may be fine. But if you want to get out there and use your white plastic regularly I highly suggest snaps, elastic, and snap plates. Aloha, -Eric

My RT-MOD has a separate cod (ha ha I can sit down!) and I'm able to lengthen the straps holding it on to the ab plate to get my ab up higher. My guess is that cutting under the belt and making a shim that is covered by the belt is the way to go. Or just use long elastic like I do instead of a shim. Or buy the bigger ab plate from RT-MOD maybe? -Eric

Folks... Does anyone have any photos comparing the NE 3 piece helmet to an ATA, TE2 or something with screen lineage? I'm wondering if and/or how much bigger it is. Thanks! -Eric

If you're up for leaning some photoshop type skills check out the Gimp. It's a steep learning curve but well worth the time. Or you could describe what you want in a sig image and maybe some kind trooper would make it for you -Eric

Is there a french TK that would be willing to help translate some of the recent CRL changes on the 501st website? Currently the french and english costume requirements do not match. PM or email me if you have time to help out. Aloha, -Eric
