  2. Hi all, very excited to finally join the ranks of the 501st and the FISD! Childhood/lifelong dream realised! My local garrison (Knightfall, Melbourne) has been so helpful and welcoming. I also got approved at a great time of year - within two weeks of approval, I've participated in three troops and loved every second of it. My first ever interaction with a 501st member was several years ago when A New Hope was playing with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. My wife (who usually despises Star Wars) absolutely loved it too! I thought getting a photo with a Stormtrooper was the coolest thing ever. It turns out BEING the Stormtrooper was so much more fun. I could not wipe the smile off my face the entire night! The MSO was back in Melbourne for screenings of ROTJ and I was lucky enough to troop on two of the nights, plus another Disney approved event at a shopping centre over the weekend. I couldn't get over the smiles on the kids' (and some very big kids) faces. Made my day. I've got a few more events on this week and learning some good tips from other troopers as I go. Thanks to everyone for your encouragement and feedback throughout the build process. Here's some pics. Please excuse the awkwardly placed shoulder bells. They've since been adjusted.

  4. I appreciate the info. I’m trying to do my due diligence by researching as much as I can before pulling the financial trigger of buying a kit to build. Just want to get it right, so thank you all for the responses.

  5. Work and life have been much busier than I anticipated, so I haven't been able to make much progress on my Legacy, despite my goal of having most of the armor complete by a major convention the last weekend of April. I made the best of the situation and made the little progress I could and accepted that I would use the con to test out as much of the armor as I could. As this armor requires many alterations for me, I do not want to rush anything and make mistakes! I was able to wear most of the armor to Indy PopCon on Saturday (April 27th), and even though I had an incomplete set of armor, I amazed and impressed my fellow members of Star Wars Indiana! I was pleasantly surprised myself as I pulled it off better than I had anticipated! Here are a few photos! As my helmet is not complete, I went with a wig and some makeup to complete the look! And we were able to get a photo with Xavier Jimenez (Tusken Chieftain from The Mandalorian)! As can be seen in the photos, major things to complete are the lower leg armor, the helmet, and the belt boxes. I also wore different boots than what would be approvable (I didn't want to worry about such a tall heel during this con). Many, many more details need to be completed as well. I need to add shims and apply ABS paste to the sides of the thighs, the forearms, and parts of the top strap of the chest armor. My biceps and shoulder bells need to overlap a bit more, so adjusting those straps will be necessary. There is a tiny bit of a visible gap between the top of the abdominal plate and the bottom of the chest plate, so more strapping needs to be secured (I had previously put 3 straps on the interior of this area, but only secured 2 of the straps as I wondered if that would be enough. Well...looks like all 3 need to be secured when I wear this). Also, as there is a visible gap between the abdominal and kidney plate I will want to extend those edges to close that gap. Fortunately, I knew most of these issues before doing the test at the con, so few of these corrections to make were unanticipated. Work continues!

  10. Congrats Chris, and welcome to the ranks! Being behind the helmet is so cool, isn't it?! And by the way, do you have plans to submit your armor for Expert Infantry?

  12. http://www.starwarshelmets.com Is a great place to see the differences of the original helmets. No one really knows how the ROTJ came about. The ROTJ armour is the same as the ESB mk2. But ESB mk2 was made in pinseal/haircell abs and ROTJ was made in smooth. The helmets however look different to each other. It is thought that they made a few suits in ESB for background shots (one spotted in the freezing chamber scene) and for promotional work. Hence ESB mk2. I believe these were then remoulded and the ROTJ were made. I could be wrong but that makes more sense timeline wise. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  15. I just wanted to point out that at a recent troop TK-42183 Was my savoir. As soon as I started to unpack my kit, I pulled out my E-11 and the Hengstler counter was sideways and dangling off of the side of my blaster. I was heartbroken. Bryan had velcro and scissors for me to use to fix it. Afterward, my armor had a few black marks on it from my blaster and neck seal, once again TK-42183 came to the rescue with Armoral wipes to shine me up! This is a lesson I'll never forget and plan on carrying more stuff in my kit just for these emergencies for my self or any other trooper needing help. You can see the white velcro holding my counter on while he's getting the scuff marks out.

  16. It's definitely a good idea to keep a small tool kit with you, there have been countless times I've heard "anyone got some glue" Great thread here from Joseph on Emergency Trooping Kit

  21. I just wanted everybody to know that being a Stormtrooper really makes me smile. I've got an official LFL event to go to soon and I feel like "I'm the real deal" now that I've been approved as an official 501st member. I've wanted to be a stormtrooper for almost 48 years, My wife doesn't understand it, but you people do. I personally feel honored to be representing Star Wars in all of its glory. And will never forget this memory I'm about to create.
